Hi Chris! Just a quick tip - if you use mechanical shutter for stills on your A7IV abd you leave e-front curtain shutter turned on (as shown in your video), your bokeh will suffer at higher shutter speeds. You can easily find some videos about this problem on RUclips. It exists only when mechanical shutter is used with e-front curtain (so it means than the electronic shutter is used at the beginning of exposing the sensor and the mechanical one at the end). In reality, if you have e.g. a 1.4 lens and you take a photo in bright daylight at 1/2000 shutter speed or higher, bokeh will look like from a 1.8 lens and its character will be slightly rougher. No big deal actually, but still... Cheers!
8:05 how do you override the AF-C via focus ring? Do you have a lens with full time DMF switch in this case? Too bad Sony limits that to DMF mode or DMF lenses only. Update: ah 44:45, you were in video mode already, that explains things.
Do you never shoot in 120fps? I’m shooting a wedding next week. I’m an amateur with only some experience. What video format would you recommend? I don’t think I need to shoot in the highest quality 4K format. A lower quality format would be fine. I’ve a 16inch MacBook Pro which is a a year or so old. I’m a bit confused by the video formats. Chris my AWB on my Nikon D750 is excellent I rarely switch it off. Is the AWB on the A74 useable. I notice Sony shooters working on jobs that I work at constantly changing WB. I ask them why - they just say it needs doing. Is this a Sony thing. Thanks for the settings link - ill definitely use that if I buy a A74 👏👏👏👏

my understanding is it will load as my settings (NTSC) then you just change to PAL and it should change accordingly. Might have to adjust the shutter speed values to what you need otherwise all should be good

If I activate all the stabilizations possible in the camera during the shooting phase (even in the zoom lens ), will the video I get slightly decrease in quality? I mean its definition, etc. Thank you.
This camera, even with all the stabilization really needs a gimbal for video. I bought a DJI RSC2 like 3 days after buying the camera, even though I didn't want to. Stabilization crops in a lot and it's not very usable.
Thanks so much Chris, being new to the digital world off Sony I found this to be incredibly helpful. I need to go back and watch it a second time to dial in the custom buttons but hopefully I'll get it. Your approach with not using the Custom 1,2,3 buttons is different from most other set up videos I have watched so hopefully you have a better formula for success with the A7IV. Hi Chris - Sony makes great video gear but how come the A7IV when I review a video thumbnail I can not tell how long the video is or how large. Sometimes I record many videos and may need to delete some and this info is very valuable. So far I have not yet figure out a way to see this info. Even if I play the video only a count up timer is shows. I would have to watch the entire video to find out how long it is. Can you help ?????? My R6 shows me all this info. Also my R6 has a delayed video start with an amber LED. This is great when I vlog gives me a 2 sec timer and also a flash if I use a remote control to start recording. Does the A7IV offer delay video start. seems the delay drive mode option disappears in video mode. Also ... the HEVC mode does not offer 30p. it has 24FP and 60 but not 30 .... now thats weird. I like HEVC on my R6 because my files sizes are smaller and still at 10bit. Any case its a fine camera but a few things are just different to Canon.
In general i wouldn't recommend deleting things directly on the camera, problems have come from this for some (generally speaking) only delete when in a computer.
These setting caused issues for my A7IV. I lost signal to my hdmi monitor in video mode in the 1.01 version and wasn't able to make it work again. The camera is behaving like A7III now.
Great vid Chris! I have a issue though, "different set for still/Mv" with white balance unchecked will not maintain the same WB when switching between stills and video. I have my WB in the custom K value setting so that I can adjust it quickly with holding C2 and turning the front dial. But I want to set it in either photo or video mode and switch back and forth and keep that value. Right now I set the K value to set WB, shoot some video, switch to stills and take some pics, then switch back to video mode and the WB reverts back to the value at which the custom dial 1 was set to, Not the last used value in video... Any ideas?
Are you using video setup on the 1,2,3 dials? That’s likely the problem if so. In those you arnt able to use a custom white balance, that’s probably why it’s not staying the same when you swap between photo and video
@@chrisbrockhurst Yeah that is what I am using. I tried manual mode and it works but then I can not shoot aperture priority for photo then. This thing is so close to be able to switch between photos and video quickly and efficiently.

Thanks for the kind words!! Yeh I used to use custom 1,2,3 but I find the WB issue annoyed me so have been pretty happy with this setup so far.

Is because you are using PAL and not NTSC. If you are in Europe or Japan PAL is correct, and we will only be able to shoot in 25 or 50p.

in manual my shutter numbers isn't the same as yours, it changes in 0.1 increment, how can i change that?
There’s no RAW option in my Image Quality Settings. Could this be due to the v90 cards I’m using?
