I have a black brz ts. When you remove the torque dip with the uel catted header and a tune suddenly this car is one of the most fun cars you can drive ever. Ive owned porsches bmws mercs audis you name it and ive driven virtually everything. Brz is more fun then 99% of them
I was on the fence about getting one of these. I have been looking at videos, but yours was the best. Great job!!! I have seen where the gasket sealer would get in to the oil pan and screen. Causing problems. I had a 2006 WRX, what a great car. Unfortunately I got divorced and couldn't afford studed snow tires and hit black ice on a corner. I saved it twice but the third time it let go. Totaled it. I sure miss it. Again best review I've seen. Thanks
Thank you for the thorough review of your BRZ! I recently got my hands on a '17 BRZ premium myself. I took note of your comment at 5:35 about keeping the factory air intake system. Where did you read about this? I am contemplating replacing the factory intake with a cold air intake and filter but after hearing you say that it's recommended to keep the factory, I am now on the fence. Thanks!!
Hey, I did research at the time in multiple forums and that was the assessment I came to. Here is one thread as an example: www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11990 While cold air intake (CAI) manufacturers website may sell you on the idea, it is worth looking for other points of view before coming to a decision. On most modern naturally aspirated cars that I have modified, at best a CAI shifts hp up the rpm band, producing high rpm gains at the expense of low rpm power/torque. This may have not been the case 25yrs ago when auto makers left more hp on the table.
Very informative, in the market and this was insightful (esp coming from NA\NB\NC Miatas and being torn between NC3\PRHT and 17+BRZ) It looks like you're in PA? If so, did you end up selling or still have it? I'm in NJ, if still available may want to discuss buying Either way let me know and again thanks for taking the time to do this video!
I did end up selling it and still contemplating what to buy as it's replacement (RX8, 987 Cayman/Boxster). I have had time in the the Miatas you mentioned and the BRZ was most similar to the NC3 Club, which is a much more reliable choice if you don't need the space/seats. The Mazda has a much better shift feel too (though I prefer the feel of 5spd NC Sport models to the 6spd Club).
Sorry you had such a rough time. Most I know are into the ownership for 100k+ with no issues but you can’t discount there are a few lemons out there as with all cars and manufacturers. Still loving mine. Best handling car under a Porsche for sure.
I agree with you 100% on it being such a great handling platform. Glad you are having better luck with yours! My experience was enough to keep me away from the Subaru brand for good. If Toyota manufactured the engine on the next redesign I would be making a down payment.
