@Best Cat Videos on RUclips true you're right. At those days he was not. I meant in these days is underrated. It seems to me only a few remember Elkjaer when talking of the great 80es forwards
Elkjær disliked the German discipline during his short stint at FC Cologne. This culminated when he was spottet clubbing in the night, with an important game coming up. His coach asked him if it was true, that he had been spotted with a bottle of whiskey and a young woman. His response is legendary: No, it was vodka and _two_ young women. No wonder his stint at Cologne was short-lived. He then went to Sporting Lokeren, and Danish national coach, Sepp Piontek, referred to him as ‘the boss of Lokeren’. And also 'the mad man of Lokeren'. He had five years there, before the culmination of his club career at Helles Verona. He is by far the best ever striker in the Danish national team.
And add to that the 100+ goals he scored for Belgian club Lokeren! He was a gamechanger - going to a small club like Verona and making it Italian champion, that's only possible if you're one of the very best players in the world.
Maradona took a midtable team to the serie a title. Elkjaer took a bottom level team to a seria a title. Maradona took a mid/big national team to the world cup.
