Thank you for watching. Some of his leaves look like they are dying back a little. That's to be expected though, because of the bleach. I have him under LEDs and I think that's helping. I'll post and update video before too long though. Keep an eye out!

Also you have to understand with the root ball being so significantly decreased you should not water it so the soil is drenched just enough so where the roots are are getting enough water. It would probably be better to put it in a smaller pot so you are just putting enough water for the root ball to absorb. The root rot will come back if left in stagnant wet soil for a long period of time.

Or you could put it in a cup with lightly damp sphagnum moss after treating the roots with cinnamon or some fungus deterrent to promote root growth. I like to use filtered water with worm tea concentrate

Did not realize pots from stores should be washed! Will do that from now on! My Bromeliad is not looking good (I over watered it I think). Going to try this out - fingers crossed!

Yes, to give your plant the best start possible you should. I always use hot soap and water and a scrub brush. I'm not sure if you've ever worked in a big box store or even a mom and pop, but merchandise sits on trucks, boats and shipping containers for God knows how long. Then when they arrive they can sit in storage for possibly even longer, then on the shelves for around the same time, being picked up and touched by everyone out there. Then there's always dust or birds and bugs that pop and die in them all the time, especially if they keep them outdoors like some do.

    Hi Justin and Stefan
I'm a newbie for indoor plants, could you please tell me the best first indoor plant. Thanks 👍
    Keep safe you two xo

Hey hope you guys are doing fine and staying safe through all of this. Zephan is making new videos again so let your son know. So my first indoor plant I had was an old man cactus. I thought they just looked real cool. Though I wouldn't call them a true indoor plant because they should be outside during the growing season to help them truly healthy. I have always been cactus crazy and now I have well over 50 cacti. A good first indoor plant for a newbie is the zz plant. They can grow in just about any light although in low light they won't grow fast at all, and they can't do direct sunlight for very long. Bright shade is best and they don't need much water at all. They have thick rhizomes that store water to help them through drought. I have a video on the plant if you are interested. Also they just came out with a new breed called raven which is looks almost black. Another good starter plant would be a Chinese evergreen they dont need a bunch of light and just about a regular amount of water. Let me know if you have any questions at all. Stay safe!

Orchids are very sensitive plants I would drastically cut back the amount of bleach you use. Use no more than a quarter cap of bleach per gallon of water. Also if you are doing this with a phalaenopsis make sure that you take a paper towel and get down in the center of the crown of the plant. Water will gather down in that little divot and unless you get it ok it can cause crown rot so be careful.

Dont use store bought cinnamon in the shaker. You need the cinnamon in a bag.

Did this plant have root rot or fungus?
