  • The Black Jewel Orchid is one of the easiest Orchids to care for. However they can be almost completely different with their care requirements from your typical Moth or Vanda Orchids. Whereas most rely on their beautiful showstopping flowers Ludisia has to rely mainly on its foliage. They do have some flowers that are smaller but plentiful. Be sure to watch the entire video to so that you know exactly how to care for this unique orchid! Plant Prudently!

    Hey there tubers! I really wanted to show you this plant and how beautiful it is but also wanted to try a new style of video that isn't so quiet, so please let me know how the audio levels sound. I really like how this video turned out, and I hope you do too!

    I've grown all the jewel orchids and this one by far is the easiest and best specie to grow! It's very rewarding to grow! Where's Bo?

      I love them. They are unique and just like you said, they are very easy to care for. Bo was napping while I recorded but I'll make sure to let him know his fans are asking about him!

    I just bought one of these plants and was very excited about its flowering. I got home and realize i had damaged the flower stem and had to discard of it :( i havent yet repotted the plant. is there anything i can do to get a new flowering this season? the flowering stem node is still in tact- just the upper portion with all the buds was broken off. i'm so upset, can i amend this and still get flowers this year?

    Hi Justin, thanks for this great video, I have seen the plant and wanted to get one but, wasn't sure how to look after it. I do have saintpaulia, as well as a few phalaenopsis, so now I know I can get this lovely orchid and care for it.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  4 года назад +1

      Yes if you can get your saintpaulias and phalaenopsis to flower then I'm sure you can care for this jewel orchid no problem. Have you seen the millennium witchcraft orchid? I love that thing. I have one, and it's been a little different to care for. If you come across one make sure you get it! The flowers are insane! Plant prudently!

    Your jewel orchid is beautiful. How did you get your jewel orchids to grow up?

    I have one of these beauts that I received as a cutting. I got it growing and it has a few nice firm white roots, however it I was overwatered and the stem became soft not firm like it was but the roots still look good. I cut the top half off and stick it in dirt and left the bottom portion in the soil as well because the roots still appear good. Do you think I am okay or should I do something different, or do you think it’s a goner? The top half has a little nodule coming out of it so I think maybe a new leaf or maybe a new plant or something. Please help me I just love this plant. Also do you think I could put in in a bathroom for humidity?

    I bought my first jewel orchid in december 2020 its a ludisia discolor. It was doing really well, has grown 3 flower spikes of which 2 are opening the blooms day after day.. today I saw the soil was really dry and took it to the sink to water it and in a blink of an eye I saw the most developed flower spike has a mushy/dry spot and has bended. Even after watering it is still completely bended. What can I do and why did that happen?

    Hi Justin! I've had one of these orchids in my care for a few months now, and it's got 3 big flower shoots (16"+) that are nearing the end of their life. Do you suggest cutting off the flower stalks when its done flowering? Where about should I cut them off? I'm not too familiar with orchids so just thought I'd ask!!
    Thanks!

    He said it doesn’t need humidity and then he says it does need a humidity

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  3 года назад +1

      Watch it again, I said they don't always need a lot of humidity but they do like it. That means they can adjust to lower levels if need be, but they do prefer higher levels. I can see where it may sound confusing though.
