"Halsey...she made you she can fix you." The moment I heard chief say these words for the first time, my heart collapsed and tears came down my face . And the rest of the campaign just got even more heart wrenching having to watch cortana slowly dying.
I think Halo 4 was a good campaign but they should have just let cortana die right then and there, not bring her back to life and made the villain.😔

Halo is one of the saddest video game series of all time. Yes, it is bombastic, over the top, silly, epic, cool, awesome and every adjective you want to put in there. But for most of the halo timeline, we are losing, badly. Humanity essentially IS going extinct. The only way we could compete was, in a way, to destroy other peoples humanity. Master Chief never had a true childhood. He barely had “friends”, they were coworkers. A small 6 year old boy was stolen from his home, away from his parents who would think their child had actually died of some unknown disease, and be put in the hardest, most grueling military training in the galaxy. A 6 year old, where the longest word you know is “firetruck” is being taught how to murder another human being. As he grows along side similarly emotionally damaged and unavailable kids, he knows one thing, he must complete a mission with the upmost speed and precision. At 14 years old, where he should be concerned about what highschool he’s going to, this killing machine of a human being is injected with unsafe and unbelievably painful modifications to his still growing body that have a 60% chance of maiming him for life or straight up killing him. He watches his comrades of 8 years die or at best become crippled. He shoots up to 7 feet tall in a matter of a few years. With immense strength and speed, he is barely a human being. Able to punch through a mans skull at 16 years old, He’s casted out as a science experiment that was made to diminish the sacrifices of the fallen, fully human hero’s of the war. Chief has nobody to turn to. He is in every sense, alone. But, he understands why he fights. He fights because he’s too important to die. He is the only one who can give the people of the galaxy a chance to live better lives than he did. He doesn’t want another John 117, because we shouldn’t need another. But he is still so, so alone. All he knows, and has ever known, is death. He can’t even properly become a normal man, he never had a chance to show emotion. If he did, that means he could jeopardize the mission. He must stay cold, but eventually he froze. He doesn’t know how to experience emotion. He knows happiness is being rewarded for a mission accomplished, and sadness is a mission jeopardized. Anger as fuel to kill the enemy. And it’s effective. But when all is said and done, Chief lays back and is still just a 6 year old kid in a mans body who fiddles with his rifle when he’s confronted with something he can’t kill with his hands. Until, Cortana came into the picture. She was a real, not to be oxymoronic, person to Chief. She listened to him, she joked with him, she was someone who he could ever trust. Nobody had ever actually cared about John, they cared about The Master Chief, Savior of Humanity. Yet Cortana looked deeper, and gave this scared, confused 6 year old boy who hid himself behind a big green mask a hug and a shoulder to cry on. An AI, was more human than the man with skin and bones. Through every mission, she was right next to him, dependable as can be. But eventually, she succumbed to one of the most human experiences of all, death. Slowly in front of chiefs eyes, Cortana was losing it. And all he could do was watch. His friend, his only friend who had been with him through all these years, who stayed beside him in the cryogenic chamber, was slipping right between his fingers. He couldn’t just shoot or punch away the problem. Like everyone else, Cortana was going to die. And, she did. His beacon of humanity in his horrible, horrible life, was gone. He was once again, alone. Years pass, and at the first possible moment where he could possibly get her back, Chief betrays orders for one of the first times in his life to save her. Finally, he can get back to normal, he can finally feel whole again, he can finally he human again. But, unfortunately, it’s not so simple. The person who had actual meant something to him, was now, truly, just another AI. His only confidante, had betrayed him by luring him to a grave. She told him that this was what should happen, why humanity shouldn’t be allowed to rule, that the people who had taken chiefs life away from him should pay. But Chief knew that he was part of something bigger than himself, that he was an unfortunate step in keeping the rest of humanity safe. And so, Cortana after being defeated by a team sent to capture Chief, retreated. Chiefs beacon of humanity had become exactly the thing they had fought against. A tyrannical rule of species purists who saw humanity as an imperfect plague. Chief now has to take back his humanity, and become his own person. Through the loss of the person who helped him start this journey, he must take off his training wheels and find out who’s the human and who’s the machine. This is just one of the many tragic stories of the halo universe, so yeah, I believe that halo is one of the saddest video game franchises ever. (Btw sorry for the wall of text)

Man, reading some of these comments made me realize we are here to pay tribute to our past. I started out on the OG when I was 13. Halo 3 was the real treat for me though. I was 18 when it came out.
My older brother and I waited in line for 3 hours. We stayed up all night and played through the entire campaign together. I haven't talked to him in over 4 years now, he got into drugs did some unspeakable things to my family and my grandparents.
I don't even know if he's alive anymore. I think of him every now and then and wonder if he's okay, if I would even recognize him? I miss him for who he used to be, not for what he is now. I'll always remember the good times though.
Everyone gets older. Funny, it seems like we spend much of our youth wishing we were older so we could do the grown up things and now.... all I want to do is go back to my youth. I can't believe it's been over 20 years since the first Halo came out......

My man. I remember playing the Halo Mac Demo back in 2007, and playing the PC Port in 2008, wondering how people were doing certain things. Turned out to be modded. Heh. My family was still together, mostly playing in the same room. I was early elementary age, barely old enough to understand the implications. Played Halo 2 Vista in 2009 on an older sibling's PC. I got an XBox 360 from my parents in 2012, and hooked it up to a little 10" TV that we had from over 10 years ago at that point, right as Halo 4 came out. The screen was small, but it was still a monumental day of my life. Made my fair share of friends on XBL on there. Got to play Halo Reach, 3, and ODST sometime after too, with a bigger screen, sharing it with siblings from earlier.
Now, 16 years later from having first played a Halo game and couple years older than old enough to drink, and my god I have to say Halo defined my early childhood. Tears welting up as I type this, remembering the glory days of Halo. My family is broken up now. We stay in contact thank god, but it's not the same. We all have jobs now, some in tech.

Now I’ve been laying here fighting back tears because playing the game when I was younger was just my whole childhood. It’s ridiculous but I didn’t graduate because of Halo. I skipped school to stay up so late and pull all-nighters to play with my friends or farm on Grifball until I fell asleep (I don’t wanna talk about it😂) I’m now a single mom of two, struggling with mental health and trauma. And laying here listening to this just brings me back to those “simpler” times. I wanna feel it just one more time. I love Halo so much, nobody outside of the community will ever understand.

He would beat me every time and he would mouth the words „game over“ to me as I looked up to him and smiled. After each time I’d go back into my room and recreate the events of the story with my little toys. I found them just now, all the Warthogs, Drop Pods, Scorpians, Ghosts, Marines, Elites, Grunts, ODSTs, Jackals, and Spartans were left exactly how I left them a decade ago. He introduced me when I was really young maybe kindergarten or younger to burnout paradise I loved that game. Well I'm LDS (some of you may know it better as Mormon) he eventually left too go on his mission we all couldn't wait for him to get home to hangout with him. He comes home we're all happy and Jordan (my uncle) is happy to be home we have a good time he lives at my grandparents for a couple weeks or so maybe more I don't remember then he goes to college eventually gets married and moves to AZ with his wife. I'm happy for him that he's happily married in AZ but I miss him not being at my grandparents house. I still see him on holidays and summers and talk to him on Xbox but it's not the same as sitting next to him on the couch watching him play some good ole Halo. Every once in a while I'll see him on Xbox and we'll talk or he'll fly in and visit but what's sad is that he's an adult now with responsibility and work so he's not always online

And now, we can only keep living for them. Those debts to them unpayed, all i can do now is visit their headstones, and thank them, for having shown me that there is still good in this cruel and unforgiving world we live in.

This game signifies a much simpler time in life. A time we took for granted. When everything was still new and exciting. It's funny how the past felt like everything always meant something. Like we were supposed to be where we were meant to be. Now it feels lost drifting in space. I long to go back. I long to wish but the momentum forward is unchanging. Only my Brain is left, longing to relive the past because now life is cold, dark, and alone. I wish I could learn to feel again. But I am numb more so than ever before. I feel nothing

One day we will think to ourselfs.. dying in a planet, alone, with the covenant taking over, what would YOU do? Nothing... only WE, a team can stop this, that's what the noble team did, they all vanished before our eyes, no one remembering them, for the good and will to save this world... they might have failed, but they did good, good enough to make a difference. One team, one dream...

Early 8am mornings when I was 4 I would open this game and as I waited for my father to come to play the campaign again with me for the hundredth time that week I didn't think to much of it when the sweet sound of New Alexandria faded in. I played this game for 6 years with that man until he had lost his battle to pneumonia. Now when I open the game and hear that sound I cry, the game doesn't feel the same for me anymore, it feels empty, like I was missing a teammate on the noble team.

Halo series was more than just a game. I never had the chance to play it in its prime. But when I bought MCC on PC, I discovered a universe unknown to me. Something truly amazing.
Not just a soldier against an army, and the hope of humanity resting on his shoulders, but a man too, broken at his core. John lost many, had to let go of so much, and yet was expected to do more. He could have snaped, completely stop at any point, and he didn't.
Some say the Master Chief lostbhis humanity due to the Spartan II project, i beg to differ. I think he's the most human being. He continued the fight, past his time, past his limits, past his emotions for he was needed. For he was able to do it, and not another one who might die.
He was cold at first. But slowy, thanks to Cortona and later the Weapon in Infinite, he began to express more. He went ahead and beyond what was expected from him. And never ask anything back. But maybe he was. Asking what you may ask. I don't know.
He is a spark, the one that light the fire burning deep inside of everyone humans. This fire is the embodiement of Humanity. Some fuel it with vengeance, anger, hatred. Others fuel it with will, duty, and hope.
When we played... when you played this game, have you felt it? This fire within you, transcending the screen. Have you ever found yourselves, wondering about life, about the future, about you and others after playing a mission? Have you ever paused the game and just went outside? Have you ever just stopped thinking and simply listened to the music of Halo?
I did. And I regret nothing.
Be well, Brothers and Sisters of Halo. We may have never met, but we share this bond of loving this game. This game that was more than just a game. No matter our age, or the day we started playing it.

You wanna know what halo feels like? It feels like the moment in time when the world was normal. Halo feels like it always was and shall continue to be the epitome of story telling. Halo is the very idea of childhood and fun. Halo is and always will be a monument to what these times were like, in one way or another. I miss being a kid though, I will say that.

Playing Halo MCC years later carrying countless memories with friends, exploits, skulls, xbox live, system links ect.. kinda makes me feels like noble six being all alone fighting wave after wave. Just sucks you were there with your mates and you never knew 'that' day would be the last memories you would ever make playing these games together. The bonds, the laughs, the sweaty nights, the cold pizza and soft drinks, the smelly gamer smells of hours dominating your buds on Zanzibar. I especially wish to commemorate my dear childhood best friend who left us too early, one who never even saw Halo 3. We played the sh*t out of Halo CE and Halo 2 though! If there was a skull or exploit (sword/ rocket) we had to know it and perfect it that next weekend over split screen. My personal favourite was when we use to get out of the maps in Delta Halo using the Ghost or Tank and climb up to the top of the mountain tops looking over the Gondola's in the far distance ❤😊 RIP Spartan Elmiko buddy, spartan Status: MIA. See you again one day buddy! Thanks for reading this far stranger. We all have cherished memories some deeper than others ❤️‍🔥

Thank you. I feel this is more sad and emotional to me then someone who’s just started to play a couple months ago, because I literally grew up playing Halo I feel that I have a strong love for halo and a connection with chief. My dream has always been to be “the hero” or something like that like everyone but I always fantasize about having custom spartan armor, I sacrifice myself for the greater good for humanity to live on. But that’s just a fantasy just electrons going through a few vessels in a brain spread out through 7 billon other people. Who’s to say there isn’t life in the infinite space or is space just an endless void waiting for humans to evolve waiting for the end of all life on a single planet for the end of all light or is it something bigger life if you’re christian then you believe in something bigger but I won’t get into too much religion for this is only a video about music even though it’s something small it spreads an idea, a fantasy, an escape from reality, but what if it was possible then it wouldn’t be a fantasy anymore it would be a truth in someway we don’t know if life exists or not but if it does is it smarter or is it less smart is it humanoid or No? the covenant might exist but there’s no way to find out is there unless there is but I won’t find it now maybe I will long from now but I’m just living my life dreaming about my fantasies everyday while you read this comment made of data that appears to the human eye because of light etc but you are reading this comment because you made it to here.
Thank you for attending my comment thank *you* for reading my whole comment ❤️

Whenever I listen to Halo music, I feel like I am one of the people living in the Halo universe. Imagine being one of the person living in one of the multiple planets humanity has been able to reach. You do not know where and what your fellow species living in the other planets are doing. You just know that they are very very far away from you. And here you are, standing on one of the valleys of a massive planet, from your home window, you are able to see the two moons that outshine the night sky, the cold breeze that touches your body, the countless people who are living out there with their families without any specific goal in their mind apart from just 'surviving'... That feeling of deep insecurity... The feeling of being insignificant in the universe...
