So I have given BGC credit in the video for the amazing job they did with helping women to start using proper shampoos in their routine! Most of us just needed a good clarifying shampoo!
The links are in the description box! If you are not aware of the terms webbing, and Velcro ends then be happy!
Please be respectful and watch entire video to get the whole picture! There is no one size fit all, so if this routine works please keep doing it! I can only relate from my experience!
If you have been watching my content you know I once spoke highly of this routine because I had no idea my hair was becoming damaged overtime following their method!
I made a video about my experience because I and others are experiencing these issues!
I totally understand if you don’t have this experience!
But I am going to keep it 💯‼️
Okay this is the Jamaican side where we are going to speak the truth ‼️My truth!
The information on why we are experiencing this doesn’t lie! ( Velcro ends, webbing etc)
Also BGC isn’t very nice on their lives and in the videos where they constantly make fun of others and their methods!
so if you are offended by my delivery I am very sorry!
    ❤️Rosie

BGC method turned me off from day one. Not because I believe in oil and butters cause I don't. When I went natural, oil and butters never worked for me. So I don't use them. What really turn me off from them is the condescending attitude they both have. I just couldnt get on board with that.

I was on the BGC journey for 2 years before realizing something unusual was going on with my hair. I quickly reintroduced silicones, leave ins and blown out hair cuts after listening to cosmetic chemists and it helped immensely. I also started using products that worked for me despite the ingredients and stopped using certain ones they recommended. I began focusing less on water absorption and more on conditioning the hair. Things are back to normal but I still need a few more haircuts. I appreciate BGC a lot. They taught me how to get a 7 day wash and go and a 10 day twist out. They taught me to make my hair routine simpler and and gave me confidence in wearing my hair. Before them I didn’t even know I had a curl pattern! They changed my life for the better in many ways but two things can be true. They are wrong on so many aspects of haircare and I’ve said this for a while. Take out the baby you guys, then throw out the bath water. Save your money, time and hair!

Thank you for sharing the aspect you appreciated! Because yes they really helped many to wear their natural hair with confidence! Even though their delivery was more than desired they could have made something great if they tweaked their methodology! Make fun of others I believe has also made it difficult to make changes!
I am happy you were able to catch on that something was not right and made changes! I hope your journey continues to get better!

Perfectly said. I had the same experience. I learnt so much from them, never saw my curls before, had no idea my hair was so curly, but the health of my hair was in a terrible state. The fact that even people who have BGC stylists and do everything they are supposed to do still have the same issues show there is a problem. I genuinely hope they take this feedback and improve, because I want black business to do well and I believe they genuinely can help people. They are too arrogant to learn and very condescending. I paid for service and was happy to do so, but I remember listening to a live where one of them was so rude - I said 'nope they won't get another penny from me.' l

Thanks for sharing your experience, I was very confused with everything I've heard about this method...From what I understand the cut is one of the major issues (especially if you have tight curls) and the lack of conditionning too. I understand beacause I had velcro ends from trichollomania :(
Could you please share how you get a 7 day wash and go ?

    • @rosieamelia5955

I don’t do anything special! I just shampoo condition ( deep condition for now weekly) add a light amount of leave in. Your climate could be playing a role, with the method for some overtime with the hair getting dehydrated from not getting what it needs your wash and go might start to not last as long!

I FOR ONE WILL COMMEND YOU with sharing your personal information. I am sure you are not the only one who has followed "BLACK GIRL CURLS" and had some problems. I think that the advice they have been putting out should not be for "ALL." There are too many variables and too many scenarios to put everyone in the same category. There are those who may not need any conditioners, definitely not all. In my opinion, Curly cuts work well ONLY if that is the hair style you are going to keep. Once you straighten your hair, it would be very hard for the cut to be even with your straight style. How could it, when you cut in a curly state, there are two different styles. I understand what they are trying to do; however, there are too many different hair textures, not to mention your personal health, and so on to say this or that is ALL YOU NEED for a Wash and GO! I agree with you Rosie. I am a retired cosmetologist and a lot of the things the hair stylist are now implementing, we just did not do many, many, years ago. AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR COMING FORTH AND TELLING US YOUR EXPERIENCE. DO NOT LEAVE MEAN COMMENTS FOR ROSIE. SHE IS ENTITLED TO HER OPINION BASED ON HER PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. IF the Black Girl Curls methods work for you, keep on using their methods. P.S. ONE THING I DO AGREE WITH WHAT THEY SAY IS "Wash your hair"!!!!!

I have never trusted or believed anything black curls said. It just doesn’t make sense. Yes some of us may have went overboard with oils and butter, I know I have. But my hair never broke off. Actually my hair thrived! My hair started to change. I thought it was because of the oils and butters but it wasn’t. I had an underlying medical condition. So yes we must do our due diligence and our own research. We cannot expect someone who had never seen our hair to diagnose our hair problems. This method was always suspect to me.

  • @thingsilove18

I've been natural for over 12 years. When bgc became popular, I took what I thought made sense and left the rest. I never fully committed to the method, especially the curly cuts. I wanted to grow my hair out, I didn't see why I would sacrifice that for shape. I also continued to use a deep conditioner but cut out most oils and butters (never used butter anyways before but my products still contained them). However, I was able to get better wash n gos and more hydrated hair. They also helped me to simply my routine. I don't need a leave in currently. As a matter of fact, right now I'm only using mousse. But I blow my hair out for cuts. I've been doing this for about 18months and I'm thankful to them for what they taught me. But I'm very happy to hear your story. Its helpful to know what harzards are. I wish they would have just focused on washing your hair properly and how to simplify our routines. Thats what, I believe, was missing from the natural hair movement. That extra stuff is not one size fits all, though they treat them like they are.

    • @thingsilove18
      @thingsilove18 Год назад +20

Also, I too, realize from the beginning that they kept changing their teachings. No prepoo, then prepoos are ok. Wash hour eventually became washing and conditioning in under an hour not including style and dry time. And I hated how they low-key brainwashed women into believing they didn't want longer hair. Shape over length, just to justify why everyone's hair had the same shape that was ear length when curly. Speak your truth Rosie.

@@thingsilove18 omg I noticed this too!! I thought I was just confused all this while, they really did change their teachings! I feel especially that those teachings they changed were things that HAD to change when "4C" hair (my curl pattern) was included. Yes, other hair types can get away with skipping pre-poos and can wash and style in 1 hour but personally, I feel like they were only able to make those claims so easily when their clientele included a less diverse set of curl patterns.

BGC always states to use a deep conditioner as needed to correct an issue. Deep conditioners are also on the recommended list. They never claimed that with their method you’ll never need to deep condition again. What they did was urge us to think about the “why” to everything we do and to learn & assess our hair. So, I’m glad that you were able to assess that your hair had an issue and address what was needed to correct it. Sounds like you learned from what they taught you in this case regarding moisture.

    • @rosieamelia5955

BGC absolutely discouraged the use of deep conditioners and leave ins . I followed the methodology since 2018. My hair is jacked. I have velcro ends and webbing. When I detangle my hair literally sounds like velcro . I followed the methodology because they are the professionals , trusted the process and therefore stopped deep conditioning about a year after following them. In hind sight saying you don’t need a deep conditioner unless there’s a problem doesn’t work (at least for my hair) . When I deep conditioned regularly I never had this issue . I’d rather deep condition regularly and avoid a problem altogether . I too have purchased k18 and gone back to deep conditioning weekly until I see improvement . I’ve also started testing some leave ins . I have only ever had curly cuts this entire time . At the end of the day I accept responsibility for choosing to follow this but when so many people are now asking legitimate questions and speaking out , and in return BGC seems to be avoiding the issue is not a good look

    • @Vfd270
      @Vfd270 Год назад +8

I think what they did was teach us to go back to the basics, learn your hair, then adjust if needed.
I never felt that I was going against their principles when I added a leave in 2 months ago and a deep conditioner a week ago for my WNG. I even referenced their product list when choosing both. In fact, they both have videos of them using leave-ins. Granted, not for WNG, so I think this just a point of clarity/update they need to provide consumers.
Now, I would agree that they could offer more clarity and advice that this may still be needed for some or need to be reinstated over time. This may help others pay more attention & be comfortable adding it to their routine.

This time last year I went to curly stylist! My hair was pretty long! She cut a lot off saying my hair was damaged from blow out cuts. She told me I didn’t have to deep condition or use leave ins, EVERYTHING THAT MADE MY HAIR GROW QUICKLY! Usually after a major cut, my hair grows back to decent length within 6 months! Not this time! Plus she was condescending. I went back to my regular stylist and got several cuts. I’ve learned my lesson 😢 Also, I saw so much hair in the shower! My stylist went to that class and realized she was not going to do this to her clients.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the method! This is how I roll - if something/somebody rubs me the wrong way, I won't even mention it, I just stop doing the methods in my hair and stop mentioning them. So here's something that I happened to me - I have never specifically shared it online until now.
    1. I received a cut from one of the women of bgc and it looked okay, but me being a cosmetologist, I pay more attention to things, that some might not notice. So, 2-3 weeks after getting a curly cut, I was looking at my ends and noticed a tone of split ends, I was pissed. But I never talked about it publicly. I just made up my mind to NEVER return to have my hair cut by that person, and I would NEVER get a curly cut. I chalked it up as a learning experience, and I kept it moving.
    2. I left the salon having paid $260-70ish (I bought some hair products), I had buyers remorse, indeed. I didn't get color, didn't receive any other chemical services. Any hair dresser worth their weight in gold, will tell you that for what I got, the price I paid, compared to the services received cannot be justified. (Overcharged)
Last month, I got hightlights (chemical service), blow-out, flatironed, and trimmed (my stylist is top level at Aveda, so the price is a little higher) and it was almost the same price as when I got the curly hair cut, and all she (curly hair cutter) did was shampoo, conditioning (treatment), and cut my hair.
Anyway, I don't doubt that your problems came from the method. Everything isn't for everybody & we ultimately have to do what is best, what makes the most sense, and what is healthiest for our hair. You discovered what the problem was and you nipped it in the bud. Way to go!
Your hair is beautiful and the shape is popping, too!
I appreciate you speaking on this topic. Take care!

I never got a curl cut, but I did have issues with the velcro ends. My stylist (non-CIK) was trying to get me to deep condition more and use leave it but I was resistant for MONTHS. until one maintenance cut where I had a loooottt of split ends. Decided to start deep conditioning every week and adding a light layer of oil on my ends. I also ended up getting a water filter. My hair is in braids right now but I'm going to start experimenting with using a leave in with my wash n gos
I don't think everything BGC is useless. Washing weekly, detangling with a good tool and clarifying once in a while was good for me. I also realized that adding oil to my hair was making my scalp condition worse

  • @JJAM4U
    @JJAM4U 11 месяцев назад +15

I’ve been following the BGC method since September 2021. For the first year and a half my hair was thriving but over the last 3 to 4 months I started to experience very dry tumble weed hair. My Wash&Gos went from lasting 5 to 7 days down to 2 or 3 days before turning into a tangled Afro.
I’ve only cut my hair in a stretched state because my daughter who is a licensed cosmologist and is the only person I trust to cut my hair does not know how to do curly cuts so she’s been cutting my hair every 3 months in a stretched state. Because of this I believe I avoided the pitfalls of the curly cut.
However the webbing caused by the extremely dehydrated condition of my hair created by not using a deep conditioner and leave in is something I’m working on reversing now.
Since listening to ShellyV I realized her hair issues resonated with me so
I’ve implemented a deep conditioner and a leave in on my last 2 wash days and I’ve noticed a huge improvement already. I’m currently on day 7 of last W&G and my hair is still defined I can wear it out and didn’t need to wear it in a puff after only 3 days while waiting for 7 days to reset because I’m not washing and styling my hair 2 time within a 7 day period.

Thanks for sharing. I have followed their practices to a tee (cuts, SSC & all) for 2+ years. While I think they are sharing great info, I also have experienced some changes this year.
I’ve been natural my whole life, when I started detangling and hydration drastically improved. Over time, however, I haven’t maintained as much length (although my stylists,OG on the BGC list, knows my goal is length retention). My WNG previously lasted 7 days no problem. Now I’m struggling to maintain hydration, and detangling is a bit tougher. I do have webbing at the ends as well and I do have a water filter.
I started using a leave in about 2 months ago and that has helped. I added a moisture deep conditioner as well. I think a combo of straight & curly cuts are necessary to help with these issues & tweek the shape as needed. Also, leave ins & moisture deep conditioning as needed (many of the recommended products have protein, so many may not need more protein). And only use an all purpose shampoo as needed (AG Balance) & use the moisture poo more frequently.
Also be mindful of how long and often a hooded dryer is used. When using high heat, dry to about 80% and air dry the rest or switch to cool air. The hotter air more the 1 time a week may be extracting a lot of moisture you just put in.
I don’t believe oils & butters are needed outside of what is already formulated in the shampoo, condish & stylers. My scalp agrees, I haven’t had dandruff since I stopped using oils. And I also used to oil my ends & I had breakage at the ends from lack of moisture. I don’t have this issue anymore.
So I believe that they should just tweek their recommendations. I don’t think they are wrong & I’m thankful for the simplicity they’ve brought to my life & the way I care for my children’s hair. With these minor tweaks I suspect I’ll be just fine.
Fun fact my OG level BCG stylist recommended a blow dry cut at the beginning of this year & I didn’t do it. I wish she would’ve explained why & if BGC had explained the reason why this may be necessary, I would’ve done it much sooner. I just followed the “I exclusively WNG” reason for only needing a curly cut.
I also wonder if the change in formula to UFD is far less moisturizing, adding to the decreased moisture and the reason why some of us may need to add a leave in to make up the difference now.

    • @cmw1336
      @cmw1336 Год назад +5

The new UFD formula may indeed be part of the problem. I have heard from others (i.e. Fo Adunni) that it has caused webbing in their hair. I find the new formula problematic b/c glycerin is the 2nd ingredient, and I absolutely cannot use glycerin products in the winter and summer. It also now contains protein so if you're low porosity/protein sensitive, I would think that would be a problem if you are using it week after week.

The old formula only states “…Apply …soaking wet hair”
Seems as if they acknowledge that the new formula needs a moisturizer/leave in applied first 🤔
This really should be looked into further as it may help with these issues (& not a BGC “deceptive” practice).

I think you can still get a curly cut if your intention is shape, and then get straight cuts for maintenance. Like mix and match, maybe one curly cut a year, or do them alternatingly. I still think they're great for shape and you don't need to be scared of them, though I've never gotten one. Speak to your stylist though, alternating them could also bring up issues with length retention so you might still be better off sticking to blow outs.

Knowing that allows everyone to choose what works for them until and unless they find it doesn't. Help those that want and ask for help. Content creators should definitely be accountable and/or correct what might have been stated in the past if no longer in agreement with said statements. So I understand the reasons for this video. Ok maybe I’m confused. I also did the 30 day detox but I assumed it was just that…a 30 day detox. After my 30 days I did drop the “heavy” use of oils & butters (still use them for sealing) but I still went right back to my deep conditioners and leave-ins. I recognized right away that I needed to DC & use Lv-ins to keep my hair moisturized for more than 3 days. The main thing I learned is to be more conscious of what’s good for MY hair but after the detox I was done. My hair is thin, low/med density and ranges from 3c to 4b, high porosity(genetics) so I NEED DC& Leave-INs and an oil/butter to seal!!!! And I was afraid , fortunately to trust anyone to give me a “curly cut” , my hair is too low density for someone to Jack up my hair. The problem was we didn’t really know our hair, esp after relaxing for years and jumped on anything.

I don't understand why natural hair seems to be to dogmatic. I feel as if we over complicate it. Happens time and time again. From gate keeping who is "natural" to saying one set of rules apply to all people.
It's simple. If your hair is:
    Dry=condition/moisturize
    Weak=strengthen
    Brittle=less manipulation/processing
You can wear protective styles, straighten your hair, and wear curl sets as long as you balance it out and don't over do it FOR YOUR HAIR FIBER

Hard water mineral buildup on the hair can be devastating to hair and scalp. Sulfates work WAY better in hard water than these sulfate alternatives. Ok ! Soo i have experienced the opposite of everything you have talked about in the video . So for some context, my first big chop was in 2018 , i grew my hair to bra strap length .I started following black girl curls at the end of 2019 for awhile , and i was even in their digital hair club or whatever lol My hair before this was a bit damaged (mechanical), but also very dehydrated. I wasnt washing weekly , i was using leave ins , and my hair could never do a wash n go because it was as if nothing would stick to my hair . Though i wasnt clarifying like i should have but thats another thing. lol bgc really helped me understand the basics of hair care from a type 4 perspective . Even though my hair started to come around and i even found a curly stylist through them , my hair was just to dehydrated and after i caught covid my hair really went down hill .Fast forward to sept 2022 , i big chopped for a 2nd time because i wanted healthy hair and a fresh start . I still had velcro ends even though i was getting trims on blown out hair . Nothing still made since until i met my next curly stylist in march 2023 . She gave me my first wash and set and gave me a shape /cut , and my hair felt the best it ever has in my life . No webbing , no fairy knots nothing !! Now i saw you and shelly talking about curly cuts and how they could be damaging so i talked to my stylist and she told me that if i wanted to get a trim on blown out hair that it would be no problem , so we did that. Baby the knots that i had from that blow out trim were horrible 😢 i had webbing , fairy knots , velcro ends it was crazy . They have since gotten better , it took about 3 washes and deep conditions to get it back to normal . What my stylist said about this : "So, the con about swaying from a wash n go is that your hair has to sort of relearn the curls. Lots and lots of water, before you start and while conditioning. Dependent on how well you're detangling, the knots can come, especially because you have so much hair". So with all this being said , i dont think the bgc method is horrible, i actually think it works for alot of us type 4 girls , just like it may not work for other type 4 girls . I think painting a broad X over them is definitely harmful , just because you have experienced a negative outcome . Your experience is valuable and i think it can help alot of women who are experiencing the same things as you have. As for curly cuts i havent experienced a con , when i got a trim on blown out hair in june , i was 4 months out she only had to trim 1/2 inch off . My next curly cut is in sept , so ill see if my hair feels like it did after the blown out trim . Then ill get a silk press in December and ill reassess then . Thanks for the video and the information . ❤

I also think people don't necessarily understand the meaning of humectant. In this case Google is your friend. Humectants draw moisture from whatever source is readily available. For instance hyaluronic acid is a humectant, and if it's in a formulation for skin or Hair it has to be paired with water so that it won't actually draw water out of your hair or skin.
So think about it this way. Let's say you live in a dry climate like the mountainous area of Denver or somewhere in the Southwest, and you are just putting humectant gel on bare naked hair right after you've washed it. The humectant is to draw the moisture out of your hair strands, because the moisture in the air is so low. But even if you live in a high humid area like the South or the North East, the closest place for that humectant based gel to get moisture or water is literally on your hair strands. And then you top all that off with a diffuser or a hood dryer? It is no wonder everybody's hair is dehydrated! This is a method that cute every once in awhile for style, but it is not a long-term solution.

So I still remember the maximum hydration method that I followed several years back that destroyed my hair so these curly hair protocols are not new. I started trying their method just to see if I could finally attain a wash and go after all these years and I have. HOWEVER, I immediately noticed my hair was webbing and velcroing and I knew it was because of my hair lack of a leave in. I used the Mizani miracle milk and it’s the perfect lightweight leave in. Since I’m still practicing, I’ve been taking note of the all the products and my technique. None of the shampoos recommended worked for me, and my hair stylist told me to look at the formalization. I noticed aloe Vera in all of them and my hair hates it because it feels like I’m layering on a ton of protein treatments. I use the old school Mizani and KerCare shampoo and conditioner and I have the Mizani leave in or the Olaplex number 6 if I’m blow drying my hair. I will definetly had my leave in back but I would never drop my deep conditioner. My stylist trims my hair every 3 months blown out. I don’t use oils because I don’t need them anymore but I took the best of this method but I will not follow these women. I also noticed how condescending they were and I’m not new in these curly method streets so I will not follow blindly. My hair was growing really well before I incorporated wash and go but I do love having it as a style option so I don’t have to blow dry my hair every week.

Wow. I couldn't figure out what was causing the tangles in my roots (webbing). I've followed BGC for 2 years. So I got rid of my leave ins and didn't deep condition weekly. I commend them for how they've created a space for us to be confident showing up in our natural hair. And I've had the best twist outs!! However, the issues I had after my CIK curly cut were never fully answered in SSC library. To me, the responses felt like we the consumers are to blame for what's happening to our hair: applied the products wrong, hair needs a cut, the condition of our hair. When I added a leave in spray to my wash and go, it eliminated the webbing! I no longer get curly cuts. Only blown out cuts by an amazing beautician! Thank you for making this video! You and Shelley are amazing for sharing your experience. I'm glad I'm not the only one who had detrimental impacts of those curly cuts!

So I asked a CIK the question and this is her response Hello! There would be a lot more info I’d need to know about what’s going on with the hair to determine the cause. That being said, a level of velcroing on the ends is normal for a lot of us depending on the elements of our hair. For me, velcroing will always just be a part of life no matter if my hair was just cut or not. It’s something that isn’t as impactful of an issue as long as I’m being consistent with my washes, avoiding products that can lead to dehydration, and am smoothing as much as possible during the conditioning step in particular. Occasionally something like Olaplex (not any of the numbers with silicones - more like number 2 or number 3) could be helpful
And this is the info I found when I did an independent research 🤣Google: www.curlcentric.com/hair-webbing/
Then another CIK stated something about dehydration and something in regards to the lipid layer!
I am very intrigued by your comment! I am definitely going to do some more research maybe at the library from more research materials!

Thank you so much Rosie for having courage and so much class to speak out. I highly commend you for owning your truth with integrity because you’ve never defamed the founders or orchestrated for the BGC method to be attacked, even when they attacked you in such a way which could have been demoralising.
I followed the BGC method for over 6 months and I believe it is not practical for at home maintenance over a prolonged period - it will always inevitably damage the persons cuticle overtime and make the hair porous. I also believe that when the stylists were encouraging for the hair to lay flat in the shower - that was actually a sign of damaged cuticles that became more porous to water. I followed the method and even though I kept weekly bi-monthly masks and cream leave-ins, I noticed that my ends became porous a lot more faster and I experienced incomplete splits in random parts of my hair. If I had not made those adjustments to the method (which may have been ridiculed by the founders), I would have developed tea tree splits/webbing.
The only benefit of the BGC method I believe is that it should remain an in house salon treatment (I.e such as when you will only do olaplex 1 + 2 in a salon) when a stylist believes the persons hair is in balanced health or should solely be a 14-30 day detox when a persons hair does not thrive with being moisture trained from washing there hair once a week and they want to transition to a routine that gives balanced health.
Again, it is impractical and unsafe to do this method with recurrent frequency or longer than a 30 day period. I also believe that with the grace that you and Shelley demonstrated, this learning curve could have made the movement stronger with them developing adjustments for at-home maintenance rather than choosing to ridicule customers and blaming the client.
Thank you again for owning your truth and best wishes for your natural hair journey.

Not BGC. However, you admitted in this video that you did not share your concerns with your stylists to give her an opportunity to address it. It takes communication on both parts for optimal results. So it may not be fair to blame your stylists.

Well I was seeing an OG level CIK ! And she gave good information! Are you referring to my 2nd cut? If so I went back to my old stylist that has always done my hair! I don’t see that necessary to do that since I don’t see the need to get curly cuts for my hair! If I was desiring to continue I would have that discussion!
When my hair was difficult to detangle I thought it was because of getting it cut curly and the unevenness was causing the issues! I had no idea that it was because my cuts were not addressing all the split ends! Also because everyone who I would watch were experiencing these issues even A in see some curls in her tutorial it seemed normal!
I am privy to certain information, most who are experiencing ( webbing, Velcro ends , difficulty detangling) are partner with a CIK stylist! Something is missing! They need to work to improve certain aspects if they are going to speak in absolute!
I think also if they stopped at proper shampooing, that would have been helpful!
Well for me the trust has dissipated, I no longer trust their expertise to where my hair is concerned!
Many have had their routine changed by their stylist because of these very discussions! Most of us have been living with webbing thinking it’s normal and the Velcro ends, this video is for awareness so they can talk to their stylist and adjust their routine!
Even though many take offense to these videos it is helping to bring about changes that will benefit those who decide to embark on doing the detox!
As professionals they should no be speaking in absolute, had I not started to use my knowledge my hair would have broken off!
Since most have started to put deep conditioning back into their routine the group BGC has made it a point to make fun of us!
Funny enough I have another close friend who is a stylist and she told me That with the nature of our hair deep conditioners are necessary, you don’t have to every week but it’s necessary!
Also the question was asked about webbing and Velcro ends , it was quite simple to say your hair is just dry and dehydrated go use a moisture deep conditioner and start using a leave in🤷🏽‍♀️!
When a group speak in absolute be prepared to take the blame for damaging women hair!
Funny enough the narrative is made that RUclips university is damaging women’s hair by the Group BGC! They claimed they had the answers! That wasn’t the case!

Again if you don’t have any concerns or have experience any of these issues why so vocal in this comment section?
You are in a sense dismissing my experience and blaming me for what has happened to my hair even though I was under the care of a CIk stylist trained OG by BGC!
Also I know you would expect that the A’s cutting skills might be up yo par but Clients experience says differently!
All I am saying is they need to implement changes, do more training or just go back to the drawing board!
I am going to assume this was not their desire outcome for this but it obviously not keeping hair health in mind for all their clients!
Also BGC should be happy I googled it because now all of a sudden We went from “Leave in has no purpose in hair care.” This is what BGC convinced this girl in their comment section! The young lady eventually caved to their persistence! So with that behavior some accountability must be taken! Also let’s agree to disagree!

@@rosieamelia5955To answer your question- I have been vocal on this comment section to provide facts & balance to the discussion. I have never “dismissed” your experience. In fact, I shared that some of your recent hair challenges I have also experienced and I”thank [ed] you for sharing.”
The difference, however, as also stated by others, some of your references regarding BGC were not my interpretation of their teachings. This is where I added the balance to this discussion. These ladies have definitely shifted the culture of hair/hair care and it’s not fair nor conducive to bash them (& they shouldn’t have bashed you as well). For example, although I have always been a healthy natural I NEVER thought I could wear a WNG. Now it’s my exclusive style. That’s major and many have experienced this new found style and/or increased longevity.
On the other hand you and others have also contributed to the shift in culture to reevaluate hair needs over time with exclusive WNG styling. Now, the act of curly cutting does not damage hair- as the way the scissor is used is the same as on straight cutting (it’s not a razor cut motion, etc.). So this is not damaging the hair. Now if all of the damaged ends are not removed, then this is the issue. But the act of curly cutting itself does not damage the hair - this is where what you’ve communicated can be misinterpreted.
Now the leave-in, deep conditioner debate is clear. BGC has both of them documented on their recommended list. This proves that they were never against their use. Instead, they took a universal approach during discussions to get everyone back to the basics of learning their hair 1st, then assessing what’s needed. And unless a person was a SSC subscriber. I don’t think it’s fair to even weigh in on this part of the BGC teachings. What they share on a IG live is a small snippet, the full teachings are in their paid materials. As everyone may not need these products or may only need them sparingly, or more often. Plus it should not be overlooked that the change if UFD formula -removing moisturizing properties, which may contribute to need need for additional moisturizing agents for some people (and perhaps the issues you & I both experienced). The formula change was only about 1 year ago & it would’ve taken some time for these issues to present themselves, not a BGC deceptive issue.
To wrap this up, BGC should have handled you & Shelly’s concerns better as they are VERY valid. I think they are now tweaking and reassessing/clarifying what they recommend, as they should.
Hope you better understand my comments. I’m not a “cult” member, just a balanced thinker😊

I didn’t mean to be offensive! I just want everyone to be aware sometimes Comments can be misinterpreted! This is a very difficult time for me personally with this whole situation! Looking at messages from ladies with almost waist length hair having to big chop because of damaged hair , who are getting trimmed from CIK puts things into perspective!
Like myself and the women who now bears the trauma from this experience it’s very difficult to read some of these expressions! Understandably it’s sometimes difficult to understand when we have not ourselves experiencing the same things!
I hope we can both kindly agree to disagree! Have a wonderful Sunday!

During my last hair appointment with the same stylist that gives me curly cuts( she is amazing, I love her) I chose to have my hair cut in a blown out state and boy oh boy, we had to take 3 inches off. While I can appreciate how upsetting this experience has been for you and many others, I don't think's fair to say that the entire methodology is bogus. Many women have been helped and their hair is thriving. Just like no one can negate your experience, you can't negate others successful experiences. Now I do believe that you sharing your experience has exposed a significant weakness in the cutting method. Ends can hide in curl clumps and it's incumbent upon the stylists to be very thorough. It's really easy to miss. I don't think the problem has been adequately addressed because of how everyone is communicating. Alot of emotions involved.
For me I'm not on the wash and go train. I've never felt adept with gels. I've been alot more aware of my ends because my hair is usually stretched. But I did benefit from some of their teachings and my stylist was fantastic. Yes I agree that how they communicated their process, it often came across as condescending to other methods. I also listened to other stylists and I tried to incorporate what I learned from everyone. Every process and product has a purpose and a place. Even BGC will admit to that.

There are quite a few ladies that have had this experience and there are also a lot of women who have not. Because of the styling method and the cutting method employed by CIK stylists, it is not a farfetched conclusion that some stylists were not thorough in cutting. If you needed other treatments, your stylist should have been able to notice that as well. I’m also not wanting you to blame anyone. BGC is gaslighting us into thinking that dry, lack luster hair is good. Then further gaslighting us when our dry hair starts breaking. I stopped using heavy oils years ago on the advice of my personal hair stylist and instead using light finishing oils. Found BGC and they convinced me to go further. But never using oils or leave ins is extreme. Following their method gave me my biggest hair set back. Cut my hair into a bob and continued using BGC and had to cut into a bob again after another round of damage. Hi, I have a question about your blown out cuts. Are you only blowdrying and cutting, or are you getting a blowdry AND silkpress for your cuts? I usually get my ends cut on silk pressed hair but I started doing it on blow dried hair without the silk press because I wanted to eliminate as much heat as possible because I was getting perm rod sets and my kinks started loosening up on the ends, and I figured if I stop silk pressing for my trims, along with stopping the perm rod sets, that I could help stop my curls from loosening like they started doing. I also want to add that when I get my ends trimmed on silk pressed hair versus blown out hair, my ends stay in much better condition for longer than when I do it on just blown out hair without the silk press.

As someone who has been doing this method for over 2 years here's some things I am tweaking:
Cleanse: Trying not to overcleanse whether that be not using all-purpose cleansers meant to be used every 7 to 10 days twice a week as I wash every 3 to 4 days because of normal scalp build up and an active lifestyle. I need to lean more on my moisturizing shampoo and perhaps even a cleansing conditioner like Curl Junkie Daily Fix. I think overcleansing in my experience can leave my hair too squeaky and in need of deep conditioning.
Condition: I haven't needed to deep condition in these two years and I think that largely has to do with using well-formulated conditioners. But if I overcleanse then I will need to deep condition because my hair cuticles will be too raised and will make styling harder to do in terms of smoothing and or defining my curls.
Style: I haven't had issues with the hooded drier. I also alternated using a diffuser as well either to set entirely or after sitting under the hooded drier for 15 to 20 minutes and finishing the roots with a diffuser.
Extra: I tried leave-ins here and there but I felt they all just made my hair not set properly or be frizzier and less defined and I didn't like my styling outcome with them in the mix except occasionally and a very small amount when doing a twist-out. Also I found after my second curly cut that I need blown-out cuts in-between my curly cuts and I was able to talk with my specific cut it kinky stylist and they were cool with me seeing them twice a year (every 6 months) and my ends have been fine. I did it because I also noticed the ends weren't great after a month, horrible after 2 months and hanging on after 3. If my ends are cut properly I should be able to go at most 4 months without needing another trim but to be on the safe side I cut every 3 months so 4 times a year me twice and then him twice and if we both do our jobs right there isn't much to cut.

I deep condition one week and use a rinse out the next, unless my hair feels dry. I have always used a leave in except maybe twice just to see how it would work out. I prefer using a leave in. I started getting my hair blowed out and cut instead of the curly cut because I didn’t like the unevenness. I believe it makes sense that you cannot get all of the split ends with a curly cut. As you say we all should do what we feel is right for us. Do you have a video on the K18? I’d like to see that. I’ve watched someone else who mentioned it but no video. Like many the well defined curls from using gels drew me in , these botanical gels were supposed to keep the hair hydrated and not dry them out! They would remove the need of leave in!
A stylist who was CIK trained answered my questions so now I am content!
She laid out everything, what has happened to our hair! She explained the method damaged our lipid layer and our hair has become severely dehydrated from doing this method!
She said curly cuts do not remove all split ends snd overtime the splits travel up the hair, next we are not using leave in under the gels and that causes issues because whether the gels are botanical or not they are drying !
Next no deep conditioner further causes the issues to get worse!
The CIk is also a chemist so after taking the course she did remove herself from the CIk stylist list !

@@rosieamelia5955 I didn’t buy in because I wasn’t comfortable just putting gel on my hair without a leave in or moisturizer. Something in my spirit kept telling me this isn’t right it doesn’t make sense. Something else one of the ladies with black girl curls said has stuck with me. In one of their lives or in a RUclips video I can’t remember which one it was but Aiesha the blonde one said that only seven stylists are cut it kinky certified! So what are the rest! Just cut it kinky trained? There are too many holes in this process for my liking.

Yes when I heard those words I was shocked, felt deceived! Now there is no more list! The blonde one said something a few weeks ago! She said since 2009 I believe she has been studying the natural hair community, RUclips, rice water, maximum hydration method and she had been in groups! So this lady knew what we were lacking🙊! The interesting part people don’t realize is we were practiced on by the stylists ( some on the list did online training but we were not made aware) and with the methodology ( where is the evidence that this worked overtime effectively) women grew long health hair! There are still so many questions

@@rosieamelia5955 This is just so sad. Instead of practicing with people or on people why not take your knowledge to cosmetology schools and try integrating the study of natural hair into the process. Or open a real school to teach your process or method. I just have so many questions.

Also the UFD has hydrolyzed wheat protein in it . This demolished my hair. I found out after they updated the label

Totally agree curly cuts are not for me. I must get my hair cut in the blown out State. Some stylist I met never knew about the 30 day detox. Would want to cut my hair curly it would always be a disaster. I choose my hair products according to my allergies. Which are severe some of the product list are good suggestions. But I have to test everything. I breakout from Eco style and Uncle Funky. However Eco style gel made my hair fall out and my eyes swell up. Uncle Funky makes my scalp itch. I have to use fragrance free products. About to do a big chop again. Once I find a Stylist that can cut hair properly. Unfortunately too many Stylist like to wash hair into birds nest and tangle my hair. They don't detangle then want to blow dry with a comb detachment and pull out my hair. These are shops that silk press and use hot combs. It's a lot of Stylist in the Mid west who can't do curly hair period. I never stopped deep conditioning my hair and I always use a leave in. Before I heard of them when my original Stylist got cancer. I had to find another Stylist and it was hard first Stylisti got heat damage and cut all my hair. I would only wear my hair straight a couple of times a year. When I did it it never broke off. After my Lupus got worse I would go to a Stylist. And my hair hasn't been the same since.

I am so sorry. It’s very difficult to find a stylist. I am very sorry about the damage you received, I know how difficult that can be. I hope you can find someone who can gently care for your hair.
I agree with you on not a lot of stylist being able to do curly hair. Where I live I honestly can say I don’t see women with natural hair. Most women are in weave, wigs or braids so unfortunately stylists will move towards styling that will bring in income. When I am running errands the only women I see wearing their hair are biracial women or kids but not necessarily women looking like me.
The only time I saw more women wearing their natural hair was during Covid.

I have a few questions: 1) What is “webbing”? How do you know if you have this “webbing” going on? 2) What is “velcro”?? What does it look like? How can you know that your hair has “Velcro”?? I have always utilized Overnight Prepoo, hydrating shampoo (or Cleansing Shampoo), protein masque, conditioner, deep conditioning, aloe vera and a leave-in…..All this BEFORE applying/layering styling cream, curl gel or cream moisturizer. I finger detangle only and have only have the occasional fairy knot. I transitioned to my Big Chop a year ago (July 2022) and I had ALMOST 6” of natural hair (pre-shrinkage). My hair is now a FULL 11-1/2” to 12+” (pre-shrinkage). I just don’t understand the use of the terms, ‘webbing’ and ‘velcro’. Please explain….Thank you!

So webbing is when the hair is acting like spider Web, just Google it and you can find information .Velcro ends hair sticks together like Velcro you can also google this as well.so I don’t overnight prepoo because that can cause additional issues especially for some with scalp condition. That can also create issues for some. But it seems to be working perfectly for your hair. As with deep conditioning I rotate between protein or balance deep conditioner and the following week moisturizing deep conditioner.
I am too lazy to finger detangle , but it’s a gentle way to remove shed hair ( you have good patience with your hair 👌🏽). Webbing and Velcro is something you would notice if you were having them.you also are doing all the things that should prevent you from developing or having that condition. You seem to have your routine down

I've been thinking about this. What if you get your hair blown out for a straight cut and you get heat damage? I used to do this and I always got heat damage, even with a heat protectant. I never let them flat iron, only blow it out straight to cut the ends. I am so confused.

There are certain things need to be done before blowing out your hair otherwise you will get heat damage! My stylist I see advise me on the routine I follow for when blowing the hair out! If you are having problems just speak to your stylist, they stated they are able to remove all split ends, so have open communication!
