I think this is the first Midnight Motorist theory I've really meshed with -- it answers both the game itself and where Mrs. Afton could be, and also answers why there's only that one set of suit footprints.
In hindsight, Mrs. Afton being orange even works color wise; orange and purple are contrasting colors, so it makes perfect sense a man so associated with the color purple would have a wife colored with his opposite. Even explains why Elizabeth is a blond in a family of brunettes

    • @tombo_sq9526

This was always my biggest problem with people assuming the main character had to be William Afton. Sure the story might work if it IS William, but design-wise it makes no sense to change the iconic purple to orange all of a sudden.
Thematically it would make sense that Henry is orange guy because he and William are always seen as opposites, but that quickly falls through when we play through the game

Your theory of Midnigh Motorist minigame is very interesting and the idea of Mrs. Afton being the "Orange figure" is pretty interesting and same goes with William being "Chair person" which you give a explanation that could actually make sense. This could also be interesting for Mrs. Afton of not being a saint after when her kids died which could give her some details to her character that we don't really know about. Overall a very cool theory.

  • @porcelainchips6061
    @porcelainchips6061 9 месяцев назад +238

I like your idea of Orange person being Mrs. Afton, because I think Ballora often goes ignored, but is clearly meant to represent her and what we are shown with that character is a woman who's eyes are "closed" even though she could open them. When she jump scares you, her face plates move and you can see that she has always had eyes but she CHOOSES to keep them shut. In SL she has a haunting song and in UCN she speaks to the player as if the player is her estranged partner. She sounds bitter and melancholy. Which sort of fits, if one of her children got bit and the other's death had to be covered up to protect her husband's job; imagine how stressful it would be for your husband to say "Honey, our daughter is dead by one of my machines; we need to hide the body and then lie about what happened forever". I'd argue that Scott may have created a more "complex" family dynamic then just "a killer with a family". It may be that William is the monster and that his wife has no idea (or found ultra denial at the bottom of a bottle of scotch), but it may also be that due to the unanswered questions, cover-ups and gaslighting that Mrs. Afton has become a drunk to numb her anxiety. With Mike's ending in SL, it sounds like he already carries a lot of emotional baggage about his father, so I could see his mother / Afton's wife also having a difficult / complex dynamic going on.

    • @andromxda
      @andromxda 8 месяцев назад +7

okay, you sold me on it. It’s very interesting that Ballora’s voice lines are often attributed to her speaking about William, when in game, we’re playing as Michael. Sure, they look similar, but you’d think the representation of his own mother would recognize the difference between him and her husband.
“why do you hide inside your walls” she’s talking to michael, who clearly makes it a regular occurrence to lock his door and hide away.
“when there is music in my halls” this one isn’t as strong, but may be referring to how she doesn’t see her behavior as wrong, and to her, he’s shunning her away for trying to be his mother?
“All I see is an empty room” she finally gets into his room, and like always, he’s gone and run off, and at some point (if he’s taken to the fnaf 4 experiment room), never comes back to her knowledge.
“no more joy, an empty tomb”
not really sure about this one tbh, but only because it’s so metaphorical and could mean so many things in this scenario.
Another thing I find interesting is that in the book Dittophobia, Rory (who could be a parallel to Michael in this theory) is called out to have a father too busy working to pay attention to him. Although William is sitting watching tv in Midnight Motorist, we know that in the games he is notoriously so busy with his work that he built an entire underground bunker to continue working. Even Elizabeth’s death could be attributed to William being too busy with the grand opening of Circus Baby’s to watch his daughter, leading to her death. He was also too busy working the pizzeria on his youngest son’s birthday to stop his older son from accidentally killing him.
Rory’s mom however, is stated to just be neglectful. We also see Rory contemplate staying in the bedroom after finding out about its facade because he’s reminded how unloved he was. Kids at school didn’t like him, and his parents didn’t love him either, as they stopped looking for him after only a measly year of him being missing.
Michael certainly WOULDN’T get along with other kids after what happened to his brother. They’d shun him away for sure. And if the experiments from fnaf 4 are William trying to recreate what happened to the BV, wouldn’t it make sense for his first victim to be the one who caused it all?
Personally, I think that even if Rory is a parallel to Michael, he is also his OWN character, who may even be in the game timeline, as characters that parallel each other can 100% coexist within the same continuity. Maybe William targeted kids who specifically seemed vulnerable?
      idk thought it was interesting!!

@@andromxda Child often bully other children because they are emotionally distressed and cannot find a socially-acceptable outlet to relieve or express what is wrong in their life. Mike bullies his brother from the start of FNAF4 and never lets up; he is "allowed" to bully the Crying Child by parents who do not stop him. If the Fredbear plush did have a walkie-talkie in it, the terrible true is that Afton might have been fully aware of the bullying and was just keeping an ear out for it "going too far". CC may have told his 'friend' about how bad he feels and the bear may have replied "tomorrow is another day" half-distracted.
In MM the green person infront of the bar suggests the motorist should leave and not make things difficult / awkward. I feel like a bouncer would want to warn a woman more like that then a dude; trying to be polite by offering advice that might help her avoid conflict.
What you said about the voice lines in SL are interesting, because you are right; they hold a different weight to them then what Ballora says in UCN. When I first heard her in UCN, I thought her persona might have been changed to fit a new narrative... But it makes more sense if she knows she is talking to two different people and she would know the difference between them.
If we want to take this to a darker place, MM might actually foreshadow more about Mrs. Afton then we realize; If Ballora represents her... Then who or what is Ballora made out of? Does Mrs. Afton drive drunk, at high speeds, on the wrong side of the freeway... Often? If Mr. Afton is enough of a monster to murder his business partner's daughter and children who visit his establishment... What would he do if he got a call from highway patrol... About an accident? Would he take the "opportunity" to start a new "project"?

@@andromxda serial killers (at least in media, like Trinity from Dexter for example) will choose victims for a reason. Vulnerable targets are often chosen because they won't be noticed to be missing, and when they are, police may not work as hard to find them.
They are also ritualized and can involved displacement of anger/blame. The MCI, and the kids that were experimented upon, probably shared qualities with the kids that Afton felt were responsible for the Bite of 83. He can't go after the actual children responsible (either they are already dead, or he knows it would be difficult to remain unsuspected) so he consciously, or subconsciously selects replacements.

The foot prints belong to William basically luring the kid from outside the window, and the kid would eventually be one of the missing victims. The main point he brings up that made me believe it was how there isn’t a real thread in the mini games. Either MM and the Puppet mini game are connect to show aftermath and randomly Fruity maze, or Fruity maze and SP showing victims and then MM. but if MM does show a victim then all 3 are about William and one of the victims.

First I remember the importance of color for characters in FNAF, such as Purple for the Afton Family.
Then I realized... In Ruin when the mimic pretended to be Helpi... The eyes changed from blue to Orange.
I then combine that with a little tidbit present in the games that is not present in the books...
The mention by phone guy in FNAF 2 about the PREVIOUS owner of Fredbear's Diner before the name was changed to Freddy Fazbear's.
We know Henry was the owner of freddys from FNAF 2, FNAF 1, FNAF 3, Pizza Sim, etc.
But not this mysterious original owner, only mentioned in the game lore. *Confirmed to be a separate canon to the books btw.*
    So my theory is:
Orange Guy in this minigame is actually... THAT owner.
Who also created... The mimic. Possibly as a final attempt to save his business from being bought out by Fazbear ENT, his business lacking animatronics and used only cloth suited humans.
In terms of this minigame... Those mascot feet were made by... The mimic who possibly saw himself AS his son and was jealous and wanted to replace him.

I like theories like these, because they take into account literally every detail that hides in plain sight. I'm sure many people would admit that the large three-footed footprint is very strange, but I'm sure many would also be stumped. What's really important is the color difference. Also, there are no facial features at all on the sprite, unlike the sprite of you-know-who. In fact, I think that's one of the only sprites that lacks any kind of facial features. If those are not a sign that the promptly-dubbed Orange Man has more to them, I'm not sure what is.
*Oh my, I typed a lot. Below is some interesting speculation from my perspective. It explains further how this theory could theoretically work, but it also had to provide an alternate take on parts of your own timeline all because of one seemingly small detail that threatened to make this theory unstable.*
Personally, I headcanon the suit that William used the same type of wearable costume as Glitchtrap's (same foot design and all, albeit obviously having nothing that makes it unnerving to kids). I think that makes a lot more sense as he's literally outside during these events (so he would be more protected from the elements; common sense), but at the same time, it makes somewhat less sense because why would he break the window then? Thing is, I don't exactly think the breaking had to take place exactly at that point in the minigame, because that seems to be either a bit or a while after Michael left. There's also the question of where William keeps the suit. That specific suit being kept in his house could work very well for this theory. He probably got caught in some sort of light rain during the usual time he does this, which he knew would escalate soon enough. After all, I sure have been rained on without thinking it would rain, too, so it's not too far-fetched. Also, this wasn't his first time getting Michael's attention this way, so all he had to do was break a window, run inside, hide the suit so it can stay as fresh as it could've been, and let Michael go because he certainly knows the drill by now.
Why would he still need the suit fresh? I'm just gonna go bonkers on this speculation, and this is gonna differ quite a bit from your timeline, so bear with me. He might've been still using it to entertain at Fredbear's, and he didn't want the suit to get more dirty than it needed to be. My point here is that the FNAF 4 gameplay could happen right after CC's death, which means that William lured Michael to the observation rooms, as his first test subject, if you will. I'm not sure how William achieves the technology and wealth to create these rooms, especially since your timeline states that the FNAF 4 tests started right after CC died to begin with, although not Michael's. William uses that costume because he doesn't want those shady observation rooms to be traced back to him, and because obviously he is a wielder of the dark arts and that type of stuff is not seen in the general populace. After all, the Fredbear era did not think up of the Springlock suits. In FNAF 3, notice how the Phone Guy says "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza," and not Fredbear's. There is also evidence of these normal costumes existing in one of the FNAF 4 minigames. One more question: did Michael really know that the person in Spring Bonnie is his dad? It could be possible that all he sees is this weird Spring Bonnie fellow saying that his family will be dead if he doesn't go, maybe calling it a "quest of the spirit." After all, the less people know who created those rooms, the better, right?
So overall, CC is buried in the mound for easy access, William learns dark arts in an attempt to put him back together, William creates the observation rooms using wealth and power from an unknown source (probably from dealing with the devil in order to learn the dark arts), William lures Michael in to the rooms as his first test subject under threat, FNAF 4 gameplay happens, Midnight Motorist takes place sometime during when Michael goes there one night, William still needs the suit to be fresh since the Fredbear animatronic became out of order for a bit and he wants customers to stay, and last but not least, the observation rooms became a secret part of Circus Baby's facility (this suggests that many more people could have easily been part of the nightmare tests), with the Fredbear plush making a cameo in the bad ending, and William using the springlock suit instead for the two MCIs due to the costumes being discontinued (part of it may have been due to William's dumb decision-making or those costumes may have reminded him too much of CC and how Michael used CC's fear against him) and he doesn't want to just return home to get that very old suit, because it would've looked very suspicious. God I love and hate FNAF for having so much room to speculate. It was written very well in that regard, and I'm talking about the original 6 games specifically.
(Small side-note, I personally don't give two cruds if the file name is big man, because we already know Mangle, Funtime Foxy, Spring Bonnie having eyelashes with that loading text, and UCN using he/him for Cassidy. I really like this theory, so I'm not letting that spoil the fun of speculating. Because of the minigame not really being a major plot point in the first place, it probably wouldn't matter which theory is true, unless either the entire lore is dropped in the future, like for Five Nights at Wario's, or a future part of the game gives more context to Midnight Motorist, like what FNAF 6 did to that FNAF 2 minigame.)

Something that I think should be brought into consideration is that the Aftons may have two houses
12:26 Mike's skin color changes between minigames even during FNaF 4, and text color is based on the sprite's most predominant color.
16:08 By "family", do you mean "mother"? Because at this point, William's wife is the only Afton left aside from Mike and himself, and he sure isn't going to off himself like that (unless he's doing all of this anonymously, such that Mike doesn't know that William is the one in the suit).

I think that the "grave" does belong to crying child. The reason for this is that at the end of Fnaf 4. Someone says to crying child "i will put you back together". Since we hear Micheal saying sorry and the yellow text is slightly different color than fredbear's. Why is it different. Well Afton did speak to CC trough Fredbear plush. It was his voice but because he talked with him trough walkie talkie its slightly different. CC knows his fathers voice and(if he had time thinking about it) he knew they were similar. Now if William wanted to put him back together he had to put the body somewhere where he could easily access it once he found a way.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this! I was very intrigued by your perspective, and I like how you laid out different perspectives and your own in a very objective manner, like you would for an actual discussion.
The one question I have regarding your theory is this: If William is scaring Michael with the Spring Bonnie suit, would that imply that Michael doesn't know it's William in the suit? Springlock suits are known in-universe to be very complicated and only a few people are trained to use them, and all the Afton family would know that William is one of the few trained to use the suit. I suppose it could be argued that, if the shadowy figure helping a man in a springlock suit in the FNAF 4 minigame Easter egg is William, that could show there is at least one person other than William whom has worn Spring Bonnie.
I had gotten so used to theories that proposed Mrs. Afton was either buried in the the mound or that she was the one watching TV that I never considered the idea of Mrs. Afton actually being 'Orange Guy'. My favorite detail that you pointed out is the idea that the person watching TV is actually William and the fact that would imply people are mistaking William for Michael, who resembles his father, is just brilliant. It would be a very clever way of showing their resememblence, but this time with William, whereas we've already seen Micheal being mistaken for William in Sister Location. I also like how your theory does feel more consistent with what we know of the characters, like William pretending to be caring but he's actually hiding something insidious that he's doing. I also never thought about the fact that the person watching TV would have heard the glass breaking and thus hadn't considered why that person would ignore such a noise. Your theory is very simple and down-to-earth, which is appreciated.
Personally, I would love for Midnight Motorist to be the continuation of what we see in the Security Puppet minigame, but I have felt like pieces never quite lined up for that, (and I personally hadn't felt there was compelling evidence for William being a drinker, though I understand why people say Jr's is a bar). However, I really like your theory as a possible alternative for the time being.
Also, the thumbnail is very well-drawn.

I somewhat disagree on the springlock suit part of the theory as the conditions we see in pouring rain is significantly worse than what we see during the fnaf 3 minigame- aka our only point of reference for a real springlock failure.
A possibility could be that they knew the weather report in advance and finished up before the rain came, but even then that feels somewhat contrived. I'd argue that the footprints outside have to be from a real animatronic- or perhaps a regular costume like we see in Help Wanted.
Though the idea of afton playing with water with springlock suits isnt that far-fetched and could explain his utter lack of caution in the aforementioned fnaf 3 minigame. Besides, y'know, literal vengeful little ghosts of kids he killed chasing him around the room

This actually makes sense, but what everyone seems to ignore is the fact that it is raining, therefore it cannot be a springlock suit, and it has no reason to be any other animattonic, whichever of the other animatronics even exist by this point. Therefore it must be a suit, just a regular suit. And the only one we know to exist is the Golden Rabbit, represented by Glitchtrap. Matpat proposes that Fredbears evolved from suits to Springlocks and then into pure animatronics. By this point we are passed the suit era, but William is a prideful man, he wouldn't just get rid of the first suit he made, the one that launched his business, so he kept it for sentimental value and tonight he decided to use it again. And there's a chance it might not even be linked back to him.

I really like this theory. My only problems with it are as follows:
    A. Security Breach tells us pretty explicitly that Mrs. Afton divorced William and lost custody to Elizabeth, then killed herself because of it.
    B. Elizabeth dying before Charlie makes absolutely no sense, because Charlie is very clearly Afton’s first murder. Why would Afton be building murder robots before his first murder, let alone before learning about Remnant due to his first murder?
Now, the solution to B solves A as well; if the mound in the woods is that of the Crying Child, then Elizabeth and Mrs. Afton can still be alive, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that Michael is going to that grave, just that this game does indeed take place after the Bite of 83 and Charlie’s death.
Overall, great work on this! I went in highly skeptical of what you’d say, and have come out wholeheartedly agreeing with you.

in response to A, I think what you're referring to is Vanessa's therapy tapes. Yes, she has a father named bill, sure, and I can see the elizabeth connections, but I don't think she's literally reciting what happened with the afton family.
as per B, in my theory I don't think that Charlie dies on the night MM takes place. even still, I feel like the idea that afton only began killing because he learned about remnant from charlie's death is more head canon than proven fact. it could very well be that he tried the murder robots first, and when they failed catastrophically, he realized it would be less sloppy to do it by hand.

@@brensnorffor A: fair. I suppose that with the revelation that the Mimic is Glitchtrap, it’s not necessarily confirmed that what Vanessa is saying is true, since it’s not even William Afton who could potentially be feeding her this story.
As for B: please. This is a story that’s being told here. Afton has a motivation to kill, and it goes beyond just wanting to be immortal. Steel Wool has outright acknowledged this, stating that every great villain needs a great motivation. Afton starting out as a mad scientist who wants to achieve immortality is not a great motivation. Afton starting out as a regular guy who loses his mind when his son dies and takes out revenge on those who have wronged him _is_ a good motivation. The writing is on the wall for the theory that Elizabeth died first, it just doesn’t hold up when held to the standards of a proper story.

@@brensnorfhi, I reread both of our comments here. First of all, I misread point B the first time around. Second, I phrased things… way more rude than I meant to? My bad there.
Here’s my new rebuttal for B: eh, fair, but since Charlie is pretty much confirmed to have died in 1983, it seems much more likely to me that Charlie died, then maybe the MCI happened, then Afton built the murder robots. It doesn’t seem feasible for the Bite Victim to die first (which is a hill I will gladly die on), THEN Afton builds the murder robots with no potential explanation of how he has the knowledge necessary to justify even being able to have the idea to do this sort of thing, THEN he kills his first victim. That’s just… weird, ya know?
Anyway. Love this theory a lot, it is very refreshing to see a “I SOLVED MIDNIGHT MOTORIST” video from a small channel that doesn’t immediately dive into the deep end with something like Orange Guy not being Afton, or the Runaway is the Crying Child and was lured by Shadow Freddy, both of which are flawed ideas in most ways.
All this is to say, great work, I love your theories.

@@brensnorfalso, I just want to throw out that… I’m kind of falling in love with this theory. I was adverse to it due to the whole Mrs. Afton thing, but… Dittophobia does confirm that FNaF 4 physically happened, and we know it has to be about Mike. And the one thing I’ve always been stuck on is the question of how the fuck Mike would actually get into that situation.
I applaud you, you’re actually starting to win me over. (That is a difficult thing to do. I am picky about FNaF theories.)

I only really buy this at all because of the orange "man". there's no way scott would make william (and by extension, mike's) whole thing being purple, and then randomly make him orange. it has to be someone other than him.

Something this theory finally made me think of, what if the footprints are leading in to the room, a straight up break in, maybe killing the kid then bringing them to stuff into the suit just outside, maybe a random break in, or maybe something else entirely

I really like this theory! I mean I don’t know if I agree but not because there’s anything wrong with it in terms of evidence. Most of the time midnight motorist theories are so outlandish or convoluted that I can’t get behind any of it. Thanks for this new perspective, particularly surrounding ms afton because if I have to hear someone announce that they jsut came up with this new theory where “ms afton has cancer and is bald therefore she’s couch person” for the thousandth time you would never had heard from me again.
I’m a devout mike run away believer and I like this way of framing the story, I mean I will always prefer William as orange guy for narrative reason because it’s thematically interesting but ms afton as an alcoholic works too and almost hits the same narrative spot. William being dismissive of me afton because he’s the one that orchestrated the “run away” is really smart.

totally fine if you don't agree, I myself am suspicious of this theory myself for various reasons. I think it's always important to keep in mind that theories with fewer holes don't necessarily mean they're "correct".
anyways, rambling aside, i'm glad you enjoyed
