Very helpful, I ordered my mattress from this foam mattress shop Foam Global will also need to do some cutting. I was going to buy a an electric bread knife to cut, but it looks very easy to cut. Thanks 👍
Glad it was helpful! I think you can get a smoother cut with an electric carving knife. And they are usually pretty easy to find at thrift stores! But I find it easy enough to cut with my bread knife, and having the cut a little jagged doesn't really negatively effect the mattress. Good luck with yours!
Thanks for this! I have two 2" foam mattress from home depot and they fit perfectly but they take up a lot of room when mobile.. want to be able to take apart the bed when driving etc! Thanks
@@TheGalavan Yes. Due to federal regulations about fire retardants many of them have a layer of knitted fiberglass. You'll see a tag warning the customer to not remove the cover. It's particularly common in twin size mattresses since they are assumed to be used by children.
That was the only video I've ever seen that shows you the entire process. Thank you. 😊
Seeing you resting on the cut mattress made me smile :) But this should also work for cutting my whole mattress to discard it off!
just saw a fellow use a hacksaw blade with great success..........oh...that's some good music
That was great Joni! You handle things well.

Any suggestions on how to pick the foam and thickness? Love your videos!
I would suggest going to mattress stores to try out the different types and thicknesses to see what works for you.
thank you, so much. -C
What if we have a gel mattress which is too thick? Is there a place I could take it to get it sliced thinner? We have a 12" but would prefer 8"
You'd need to check Google for that. You might be better off getting an 8" mattress than trying to cut your 12" down.
Step 0, Make sure the mattress doesn’t have fiberglass.
Is fiberglass common in foam mattresses?

can you not cut the outer cover, too?
Yes, you can - however much you'd like - just make sure you have enough to enclose the mattress.
