Omg I'm so glad I found this video!!!! I was just looking into purchasing a bread cutter to cut my foam with! I am building a custom bed for my 6yr old daughter, and I can't find a decent priced rounded foam mattress. This was a Godsend, those blades cost less than $3 in some places! Thank you for this demo!
Hacksaw?! Never thought of that although I use one for many different projects. This is brilliant. Will be using your idea soon when I work on our ailing sofa. Many thanks!
Hello Granny, You are very welcome! It works 100% every time it is tried! I think you will like it. Try it on your sofa. Please keep liking and watching!
So glad I found this video , yes i was told use a kitchen Knife it did not go well. When searching I was luckily to come across your video. YES I AM CONVINCED AND GRATEFULL .
Sharing techniques, tips and tricks is such a wonderful thing. I truly appreciate you and your channel and for making the world a better place. Subscribed!! 👍
With the type of foam you are showing, I agree with this video - especially for the use case you show where you need a nice straight line. With that "greasy" softer pink foam at 4-5 inches thick, no way - a hacksaw blade doesn't work much at all - an Electric Bread Knife is the only way to cut that (unless a hot wire station is set up, or maybe if you have a bandsaw but, really, who would use a bandsaw).
Hello Private, I even use a hack saw blade for every foam, even the really squishy aircraft and memory foam. I am glad you have success with an electric bread knife. Please keep liking and watching!
I used an electric knife for years until I bought my Bosch foam saw. Fast and super clean edges. This hacksaw blade is ok if you can't afford the Bosch ($300+) and time isn't a problem. Nice video though. Always enjoy. I've been retired from my business for several years. Was tons of fun!!
Thanks for the tip sir. I am currently working on a new chair seat for a chair I just refinished. It has odd curves to get around. I will definitely use your method.
This makes me feel good! I had a big piece of foam I wanted to break up to throw out in garbage bags and I tried a hacksaw blade and found it worked great!
I thought my Friend was Joking when He said "Just grab a Hack Saw blade and cut it Ese', Don't be complicating sh*t It's just foam for a Couch Cushion". You Proved Him right, Thanks a Million.
I need to cut a foam insert for a small case to house some special tools. Saw a bunch of videos with complicated methods. Glad I found your channel! Quick, simple, economical, easy to maneuver...everything I need. As the saying goes..."I ain't building a watch!" Many thanks to you!👍👍👍😄
You nailed it from the outset when you spoke of the RUclips phenomenon of people with zero skill or actual real-life experience repeating with authoritative bluster complete crap they've watched from someone else with zero skill or actual real-life experience who themselves watched it from.....etc. Anyway, I've got some foam to cut for my newly built garden furniture and I can't see how your method could fail to work. I'm going to adopt method #738 as advised. Top notch video and advice from someone who knows their onions!
Hey Old School, I need to cut some 2-1/2" circles in a piece of 3" foam Ill be setting into a cardboard box so I can transport glass bottles filled with liquid in an upright position w/o them clanking around. How can I cut perfect circles w/o tearing the foam? Thanks!
Hello Master, I think if you can draw out triangles instead of circles would be a lot easier and faster. 3" medium density will cut easily. Please keep liking and watching!
Hello from Croatia.I love to see your content cause i do upholstery on everything that has fabric on it,so furniture, cars, bikes, boats andything, and i finde out that hot wire is relly good to cut any tipe of foam, and to have nice clean cuts, even curves and all that is really clean cut.But not hot wire guns and that but realy table with hot wire it is really cheap to get. I cut foam with that and i am really happy with it.Upholstery is the best clean and nice job. Once again I really love your content, lot of love from Croatia
Hello Julie, You are so welcome! I do this sometimes. It can be done with a lot of patience. Slowly check your cuts and recheck. just like slicing bread, but horizontally. Please keep liking and watching!
What about on rebond foam? A lot of gym equipment pieces use rebond with another softer foam over it. I had heard of the bread knife but this is a much better option! Thanks!
thanks for replying, i will keep watching for sure, I have subscribed to your channel, I love how you explain all the steps in your videos, I am hoping to do my own 1941 Chevy Coupe, interior so I have been watching all your videos, catching up ,,, thanks again ,,,
@@davidsauter13 Hello David, I could not ask for any more than you are already doing! Decades ago I did a 1940 Buick coupe. I think they must be similar. Please keep liking and watching!
I like hacksaw blades for precision, the electric knife is great if you make a fence, trigger lock, melamine straight and sqaure surface and take your time. You cannuse t track/miter slots to setup miter gauges with thicker form or make H molds in the T tracks for cutting sound insulation boards. A lot of neat stuff espically when doing panels for car audio to make it look real nice. Flexible matieral s are more a pain but firmer thicker foamd are fun to do. Btw I specialize mostly in one of one patio furniture so I have to make cushions all the time and customers love triangle display cushions.
I'ma try this! Been looking for a clean way to cut some 1 inch sound proof foam so I'm praying this works. I got an extra tile so I'ma use it as a test. Thank you so much
Can ya cut latex foam this way ? I’m totally convinced ! Thank you ! I want to make a latex foam topper for my recliner. It just needs a little bit of cushion to make it better. Hope it works with latex . 😊
Hello Little, You are so welcome! I do not see why it wouldn't work on latex foam. It will cost almost nothing to find out right? Please keep liking and watching!
At art school I cut some 5inch soft foam (from an old sofa) into the shape of a skull and crossbones 4inch sq to use an a printing stamp. I used the workshops band saw ,that had a rip cut wood blade, after I was done the technician who didn't spot me was surprised the maching didn't suck the foam into it, looking back I now count my fingers and blessing simultaneously. I still have that piece of foam.
I like to use those disposable utility knives that have the blades which snap off about 1/4 inch at a time. I extend it out to max length and use gentle sawing motion to get through foam up to 2 inches. The blade is so thin and sharp, it makes nearly invisible cuts.
Ok here is a request. Can you do a video about the different foams used for different applications. Layering different densities of foam. Marine vs automotive vs residential vs commercial applications.
Hello Alvarez, I am a working shop serving my customers daily. The videos I make are of actual customer projects. I don't have a spare minute during the day as I am so busy. Maybe someday I will have that customer whom I can make that video. Thank you for the request! Please keep liking and watching!
For those of us going for smaller, more surgical cutouts, I've found that a well sharpened knife is superior to a hacksaw. (Hacksaw is still perfect for cutting lines that cut all the way across.)
Hello Boo, Lighter density foams are more delicate and do take more care in cutting. I tried the simple handles for hack saw blades, but just went to the basic blade after a while. Please keep liking and watching!

This is a great idea for curves and any work on the go. When electricity is available, I like to use a bandsaw for the long straight stuff.

Awesome! Thanks for the info

Once again I really love your content, lot of love from Croatia

ok I got a question what if you want it 3 dimensions how to get clean cut half way in the foam
Hello Cfish, Just cut very carefully. Hehe. Please keep liking and watching!
Hi Rudolph, How would you cut the foam in half horizontally? Keeping the same depth and length of cushion but making it half as thick? Thank you!
Thanks!
Hello Joey, You are so welcome! I have always used the hack saw blade for any foam I have encountered. Please keep liking and watching!
nice job, going to do that way today
Hello Lwr, Try it, you'll like it! Please keep liking and watching!

Hello Chicano, For memory foam I use a combination hack saw blade and scissors. Please keep liking and watching!
Does the number of teeth on the hacksaw blade matter, ?like finer works better?
Hello David, It does not matter, I grab any hack saw blade that is just lying around at the time. Please keep liking and watching!
thanks for replying, i will keep watching for sure, I have subscribed to your channel, I love how you explain all the steps in your videos, I am hoping to do my own 1941 Chevy Coupe, interior so I have been watching all your videos, catching up ,,, thanks again ,,,

Thank you! I need to trim some foam cushions and will be sending my husband to the hardware store ASAP😂
Hello Gladys, You are so welcome! I sure he will do just fine cutting up those foam cushions!
Hello Vera, Yep, hack saw blades are our friend. Making cushions great! Please keep liking and watching!

Hello Crazy, You have to admit, that was pretty crazy! Thanks for sharing an awesome memory! Please keep liking and watching!
I like to use those disposable utility knives that have the blades which snap off about 1/4 inch at a time. I extend it out to max length and use gentle sawing motion to get through foam up to 2 inches. The blade is so thin and sharp, it makes nearly invisible cuts.
Hello Mitch, You're right, they cut good, but dull quickly. Please keep liking and watching!
What do you do for latex?
Hello Joshua, For Latex and memory foams, I use a combination of hack saw blade and scissors. Please keep liking and watching!
For those of us going for smaller, more surgical cutouts, I've found that a well sharpened knife is superior to a hacksaw. (Hacksaw is still perfect for cutting lines that cut all the way across.)
Hello Jay, yep. Cut away! Please keep liking and watching!
Great Idea! I'm gonna use a jigsaw lol too lazy to do it my hand thousands of times.
Hello Engineer, A jigsaw is much heavier and cumbersome, than a hacksaw blade, but go for it! Please keep liking and watching!
I'm Convinced!!!
Hello Stew, Right On! Right on. Please keep liking and watching!
What about lighter density foams. Also they make open bladed handles.
Hello Boo, Lighter density foams are more delicate and do take more care in cutting. I tried the simple handles for hack saw blades, but just went to the basic blade after a while. Please keep liking and watching!
