Your title caught my eye as I was going to watch, a second time, the video on how to use an electric knife to cut foam for kitchen chairs. After watching your video I realized how much more control a person would have using the hacksaw blade. It made me more comfortable and less stressful about my project. Thank you for sharing this video.

With the type of foam you are showing, I agree with this video - especially for the use case you show where you need a nice straight line. With that "greasy" softer pink foam at 4-5 inches thick, no way - a hacksaw blade doesn't work much at all - an Electric Bread Knife is the only way to cut that (unless a hot wire station is set up, or maybe if you have a bandsaw but, really, who would use a bandsaw).

I like hacksaw blades for precision, the electric knife is great if you make a fence, trigger lock, melamine straight and sqaure surface and take your time. You cannuse t track/miter slots to setup miter gauges with thicker form or make H molds in the T tracks for cutting sound insulation boards. A lot of neat stuff espically when doing panels for car audio to make it look real nice. Flexible matieral s are more a pain but firmer thicker foamd are fun to do. Btw I specialize mostly in one of one patio furniture so I have to make cushions all the time and customers love triangle display cushions.

At art school I cut some 5inch soft foam (from an old sofa) into the shape of a skull and crossbones 4inch sq to use an a printing stamp. I used the workshops band saw ,that had a rip cut wood blade, after I was done the technician who didn't spot me was surprised the maching didn't suck the foam into it, looking back I now count my fingers and blessing simultaneously.
I still have that piece of foam.

I like to use those disposable utility knives that have the blades which snap off about 1/4 inch at a time. I extend it out to max length and use gentle sawing motion to get through foam up to 2 inches. The blade is so thin and sharp, it makes nearly invisible cuts.
