Hey sir. Nice boat - looking at these myself. Now that this purchase has settled, would you say the brand new price tag is worth it at $40+k or would you recommend looking at these used.
I no longer own the boat so I'll just say that. I own a vexus now and hands down the best boat I've ever had!
@@farwellfishing yeah… saw your next video on it. Won’t be going with white river.
Good in-depth review of your boat enjoyed the breakdown. Also congrats man! I remember talking to you awhile back about these, I too almost bought the Lund version. I'm glad you made it happen it feels good owning a Ranger even it is aluminum. I got my 2020 188p same color as yours, in may of 2020 and I love the thing to death. No major issues with it all. The only minor issue is the foam on the bottom of some of my lids is coming up, I need to get some adhesive and redo them. I opted for the 115 Yamaha SHO nothing against mercury like them both, but for a 115 the things a beast. I'm a bigger guy so is my dad both are about 240-250 lbs full tank of gas full gear we got 45 once, usually hover around 38-40 stock prop. For you or anyone wondering the 2020 188p left rod locker stays open, I'm not sure what they did different. Sorry you had issues with it, I wonder if its because they moved them to the tracker plant after 2020. I've had 0 hull and trailer issues I sadly hit a rock going slow and scratched up my keel/bottom of boat a bit and dinged the skeg a little. Of course I didn't put a keel guard on it yet always happens that way. I installed a helix 10 by my trolling motor, and there was already a power block up there that I could hook the finder up to didn't have to run wires. No interference gets plenty of power no issues works great. I opted for the coinbox its nice having USB chargers right there and looks sleek as hell lol. I almost got the 198p but it was 38k vs the 30k for my 188p, I checkout Vexus as well and those were all 40k+. Sadly I'm still stuck in the northeast with mine. I'm still working on moving to western NC, hope I can make it happen soon.
Side note not to be weird but I noticed you have a Reynolds boat shirt is that the one in CT? Did you get your Lund or the Ranger there? I drove down from MA to get my 188p from them, they made it really smooth easiest dealer I've ever worked with.
I used to live in NH and moved to NC a couple years ago. I fished some of the Reynolds trails and they gave out shirts at one of the trails I fished.
I like the 198p but not all of the issues I've had with it. Hopefully a resolution I've been working on will change my perspective about my whole experience and view on ranger boats. I hardly fished much last yr because of the crazy and lengthy crap I had to deal with
I haven't had as many issues with mine. Love the boat it rides really good and with 3 people fully loaded im getting 55. The engine did have a recall the iep valve i think thats what its called went bad so the boat would not idle correctly. Dealer fixed this. Also from the factory they didnt put 2 screws in the transducer plate so i was taking on a ton of water. Easy fix. Have fun and catch a lot of fish!
Got a jackplate on urs? I'm getting 58 by myself and 55 with a passenger. Once all is fixed I know I'll love it!
I’m looking at a slightly used 2017 198P it has the Hummingbird Helix 7s on it. I’m going to have the dealer put on an Ultrex and link everything together. Has Mercury 150 4 cycle, no jack plate, with 26 hours on the motor.I had power poles on my last boat but I think will just get by with the Spot Lock on this one. I hope the first owner worked out all the bugs.
To be honest I think you will be good. I know people with older Rangers and specifically 2017 and they've had amazing luck!
Haha yep I had the dealer add a piston to my port rod locker as well! Making these comments as I watch. The 2020 and earlier that locker door went past vertical and stayed open but not in the 2021 redesign.
Yep ill be adding that piston! Thanks for watching!
Be thankful you got your boat. I ordered a 198p January 2 still dont have the boat because i wanted 2 hummingbirds
I am thankful, it's a review video. Just frustrated with all I've had to deal with since day 1.
Wiring my 2020 198p was the biggest pain as well. I ended up damaging some of the wiring in my console. Had to have the dealer go in and fix what I messed up. I wish they made those channels with more room to fish those wires in. If I ever change graphs I will have that done at the dealer. Worth paying $$ rather than going through that nightmare again! Great review BTW
Yes sir! It was so brutal. I just don't understand the thought process. Those wires are so tightly squeezed in there. I'm thinking of somehow making more room. Why not add bigger conduits? Thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed!
Money!
That looks like A 8 MPH Chop , Boats usually run good with some chop on the water . Nice Boat !
Not a bad boat, but boy has Ranger lost its look. When you saw a Ranger before Johnny took the company over the boats really stood out to the rest of the bassboat brands and the quality showed. I fished out of a 2003 185VS and the only thing that broke in 20yrs of use before selling it was the bildge pump in very rough waters. Would have kept it longer, but reason to sell is Ranger no longer stands by their products. It use to be you could get parts for a 20yr plus old boat. Now after only 5yrs they obsolete it and it becomes hard to get parts. Plus before you could order parts directly from the Ranger factory, but now only way to get parts is through the dealers which put ridiculously mark ups on parts. Overall, got fed up with them and said good bye to Ranger for good.
Awesome bro, glad you are excited for it, I'm with you about those little things. 💪💪💪💪
Thanks buddy!! While filming im like man I'm going to get shredded but glad people seem to feel the same and understand. Especially spending that amount of cash!!
@@farwellfishing oh for sure bro
i really like your walk through with the extras--gave me a lot of idea to add to my
rt 188P when it arrives....
I've added more since then! Will be doing another video soon, so subscribe if you'd like!
Back compartments don’t have a latch or lock because they have the drop in tray liners and can be used as a cooler if need be. You have to cut out a section of the drop in liner for the latch to go through the side in order for it to “lock”. Whereas the other compartments actually have lips around all the edges.
Yep totally makes sense. Definitely could be made to be locked though. Especially the compartment that's the step to the front deck. That thing should 100% have a lock on it if its already made to have one. Just in my opinion
I have a 2021. The plactic bins in the back 2 compartments are screwed or riveted in place and not removable so the y are not "drop in". But I agree they could have still made them lockable or with some thought and effort you can make them so.
@@JohnWalkerCharlotte ya i will eventually make it so I can lock them!
Congrats on your new boat. I hear your in NC I am in Matthews NC. Where are you at? I have had my new 2021 RT198P few a few months love it. I also have a few items I am working through.
Garner!
Cool Jordan, Falls, Shearon Harris. Way better than Charlotte lakes!
@@JohnWalkerCharlotte i love jordan! Caught a 10lbr in a dang trex costume!
@@farwellfishing I am next to Ledge Rock ramp at Falls. When you get up this way I would love to ride in your boat to see how it rides. I am thinking of going tin. My old glass boat is gonna get sold this fall.
Ranger boats have gone down since Johnny bought them. I will be getting ride of mine for Xpress
I had a 188 nice rig for sure and sold it. Been looking hard at the 198 just hard to find an used one. I live in NC as well tight lines!
I'll let you know if I sell mine!
Go ahead bro…go ahead
I noticed it too when I watched it back lol
@@farwellfishing sweet boat!
@@JB-ms9du thank you!
I got a 2021 188p this year and it was a disaster! Hole in transom for transducer mounting plate with no screw in it. Transducer wire wasn’t even plugged into unit, and the factory drilled a hole in the gas tank when they installed passenger grab Handel. They had to replace the gas tank and carpet in cockpit that was destroyed by the gas flooding it.
Quality control doesn't exist anymore. It's so so disappointing
Nice job rigging electronics and cleaning up battery compartment. The QC issues you encountered are unacceptable and are indicative of decisions made at corporate level. Unfortunately, not uncommon these days. Solid review. Thanks.
Thanks man. It's so unfortunate. I'm gonna do an update review and unfortunately more issues have risen. It's so incredibly disappointing after spending so much money to have an unbelievable amount of issues on a brand new boat. Thanks for checking it out
Looks great 👍. Might be my first boat, great review 😊
Thanks
Just bought a 22 ranger RT 178 c first day out Mass issues
Wiring my 2020 was a pain as well. I ended up running 8 gauge tinned wiring From the back through the gunnel to the front and then to the front storage compartment for a separate fuse panel. What size prop do you have? Mine came with a 21P vengeance. I upgraded to a 24P tempest the spring.
Yep! I ran 10 Gauge from both graphs directly to battery. I have a 23p tempest and love it so far!
i have a 2019 RT198P that I got form Collins Marine in Smithfield, there are a lot of things that are different between the 2019 and the 2021.
Yep doesn't surprise me. I really hope things turn around for the better. I'm extremely disappointed.
@@farwellfishing I feel for you that is complete BS that you have to deal with that
Best review I’ve seen on this boat 👍 and I watched tons . Thanks ! Only question, any regrets not going with tandem axles on the trailer ? Just by looking at the ranger website the tandems seem to be stock ( I’m not sure) if so, did it affect the warranty at all by going with the single axle ? . Personally I prefer the single axles but at the same time I want to do a lot of traveling ..
Also, I really liked how you ordered the boat, you saved a ton and I may follow your path when I get to order , so again thanks for sharing ..
Thank you! And what you see online is basically the best of what you can get for the boat when you order. I ordered mine with single axle because thats standard. You can upgrade to tandem axle though if you want. Im happy with the sinlge!
@@farwellfishing perfect. Thank you .. have a great weekend
Excellent review on the 198P, thanks for going into such detail!
It's a shame you spend that much money for a boat and get that kind of build quality?
I'm considering the 188 or 188P but I've been hearing similar stories to yours, I will be looking at other brands as well. Did you look at the Crestliner XF189, that model can take up to 150HP?
Thank you! I mean i have buddies who have had excellent luck. And honestly all boats have issues but these kinds of things are kind of excessive in my mind. I did look at other brands but wasn't in the position to spend 7k to 8k more for a very similar boat. Especially because I knew I wanted to put upgrades on it such as power poles, vessel view, gas struts for rod lockers, etc. At that point it would be 50k and it just wasn't something I was interested in spending at the time. I just picked up my boat from getting the whole steering replaced so HOPEFULLY everything is fixed and I can go out "problem free" knock on wood lol let me know if you have any questions and thanks for watching!
Excellent video and review!!
Update video coming soon
Just a tracker with a ranger sticker on it now 😱
I’m in NC and waiting on my 188P. Who is your dealer?
Cabelas because I was not pleased with the Service I received with any of the other dealers around here
Dude great video and very informative.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed!
Does any of the storage on these boats have lights built into it LED
Nope not from the factory
Ranger's quality has been going down for a while, your not the only one complaining about all the issues.
it was my biggest hesitation and i had some doubts but still went thru with it. once i get it all figured out hopefully i'll be good to go. couldn't justify an extra 8k for a Vexus so hopefully once it's straightened out i'll feel like i have a NEW boat instead of a USED on right now lol
Being California no Dealership would give me a price break, a Dealership in Sacramento had a 198P but they were shitty, the damn thing was bone stock and they wanted $39k. I went with a 188p…… put everything I wanted on it and left owing $35k. I’m sacrificing inches and maybe 5-10 mph.
Yep it's insane. My experience has been horrible
Go ahead
Good informative video and real nice boat. Keep us up to date on the FB Ranger Aluminum page and feel free to post any of your fishing videos and pics.
Thank you sir! I absolutely will!
Looking good buddy 👌 but 5'8 idk that sounds like a fish tale
Hahahaha thanks buddy! And ya im probably stretching that there ;)
Y would u hate the new drain plugs
I actually like them! I said I wasn't sure if I would but they have been great
Who is your dealer? Mine is Anglers Choice Marine.
Cabelas. I wasn't too pleased with other local dealers to be honest. Customer service was poor. Normally you hear about this in big box dealers but I've been very happy with them
Hey John how was your customer service and everything with anglers choice were you pleased
@@briancrews6177 great love anglers choice
I am looking at it's little brother the rt188
Sounds like I would take it back to ranger and say stick it
Trust me I'm doing and have done everything. Been battling since may.
Nice boat good luck with it ! But I think I’ll stick with my Renegade!
Thanks!
Can some count the "go ahead" I can't watch again Hahahahah
Haha I realized it when I was editing it. I was like well, ain't doing it all over again lol
@@farwellfishing Hey man it's all good Great video I liked and Subscribed. I'm thinking of getting the Ranger over the Tracker. What part of NC are you in I'm in north east Ga.
@@mattbolmon9242 I'm around raleigh! And I'd still get a ranger over a tracker too
@@farwellfishing any other issues since the video?
@@mattbolmon9242 yes. I put and update video up if you haven't seen that one and explain just about everything
My opinion, I don’t want to spend 40k on an aluminum boat with only a 150 xs I feel like that’s over priced when I can get an xpress for the same price with a 250
No way. Brand new xpress you aint getting an xpress with a 250 for 40k. I agree it should be designed to have at least a 200. If an xpress was 40k with a 250 many people would be doing that.
@@farwellfishing the x21 pro is listed at 39k, I mean with everything you got I guess with fees it would be like 47k
@@BlakeLassman1 what you're looking at is the base price with the minimum horsepower motor which on the website is a 175 yamaha. If you add a 250 the price jacks way up.
@@farwellfishing yeah I realized that haha you got an awesome well crafted boat!
@@BlakeLassman1 thanks man
That’s a bad MF.....lol
Johnny morris screws up ranger
It's been a very bad experience
I got my boat and nothing was hooked up to the batteries other than the engine. I had to connect everything. Gone fishing Marine FUCKING SUCKS.
That is ridiculous they didn't do anything for you...
Looks like an overpriced Tracker. I don't see any difference other than the name
@mikemccoy635 yep things changed big time over the years.
