I've got an 05 618VS. I still can't believe how well the boat handles bigger water and fishes fantastic. It has thousands of miles going to MN and Canada from central WI. Axle finally crapped out this year but I will probably have this boat until I die. Worth every penny.

I have a 2020 Z519 with a 225 Mercury 4 stroke . I have had zero issues with this boat. I actually took the Ranger Boat factory tour in Flipping, Arkansas. I was treated very well. The people in the factory were working their tails off . Definitely a lot of custom work being done. This is my 2 nd Ranger.

Ranger peaked with the VX hull in 1999. The 518VX was everything you could want in a bass boat with no fancy gadgets to fail. It's only downfall was it was easy to overdrive in rough water and not ride so good but in the hands of a skilled driver the boat excelled in rough water. In 2000 the 520VX hit the market. Wow. What a boat. The ride was exceptional even for the not so skilled driver. The only downside was a 225 hp rating instead of 250 hp rating. The boat with the rails was a complete flop. The C boat was good with a 250 HP rating to boot. After that, Ranger turned to crap. The L boat and R boat were flops. L boat suffered quality and ride issues. You could not even mount a hit foot in a L boat without it being in the middle of the console and awkward to use. Adjustable seats were a disaster. R boat solved some of the issues but the 2022 transom failures, seat failures and RIDE system failures kept these boats off the water and in the shop. Don't touch a 2022 R boat with a 10 foot pole with the transom issues and not so good warranty for non-original owners. RIP Ranger.

I've owned three Rangers a 2003, 2014, and a 2024. All 20ft boats. That being said, I've been running my 2024 z520r four months now and over 100 hours, and it has my seal of approval. It's not the same boat because of technology, but if the ride system was gone, it would be the best boat Ranger ever made. And it is 100% the best performing Ranger ever.

    BassMaster Elite Series:
Clark Wendlant, Bryan Schmitt, Chris Johnston, Cory Johnson, Matt Arey, Jordan Lee, Todd Auten, Keith Combs, Joseph Webster, and Jonathon Kelley
    MLF Bass Pro Tour:
Brent Ehrler, Bryan Thrift, Jeremy Lawyer, Alton Jones, Stephen Browning, Wesley Strader, Mark Daniels Jr., Ron Nelson, Cliff Crochet, and Justin Cooper.
This might not look like a big list but it is 12.5% of the MLF roster and 9.7% of the BASS roster running a single brand.

My old 2016 Z521c Ranger had the top cap crack from across the gunnel on the port side (near the console), run down the inside and into the floor. Took it to a local fiberglass guy and I have camera shots of the boat and how the sides were not filled with floatation foam like the "cutaway" boat had. Boat went back, got a new top cap, still no foam. So glad I sold it. Side note, it was the fastest 521C on Erie though, just not the safest.

I was told not to buy a JM Ranger a few years back which triggered me into picking up a clean 12 Z519. I compared my Comanche to the newer boats and they appear of equal quality on the surface but the horror stories are compelling. Mine has been trouble free for years and my buddies early 90’s 361v is still getting the job done. I can’t say I will keep my boat that long but it is reassuring to know it can make it if I do.

I have a 520r 2023 55 year addition ranger. I love this boat! it rides like a Cadillac and handles choppy water like a champ. I did have a couple build issues when i first got it. The steering column broke and I couldn't control it and had to use trolling motor to get back to boat ramp. I took it to dealer and they fixed it in one day no charge. That's the only problem I had with it. The build quality compared to a Nitro which I had before this one is so much better that it's obvious looking at it from the ground. I'm very happy with my Ranger. I'll keep this one for years if it holds up! I think it will it feels like it's quality built every time I drive it.

I am a huge tinkerer with electronics and what not and the rigging tubes, routing paths etc. are phenomenal. There are several people having issues with the transoms on the 2022 R models, luckily I have not had that issue. Some have had issues with the rivets coming out of the deck lids, but I again have not experienced that issue. I have though experienced issues with the RIDE system that ranger now uses in the R boats, I personally am not a fan and if Ranger would offer an all with model I would but it over a RIDE system boat, When it works, it is great, everything is there and accessible in a screen on side of the steering wheel. But with connectivity issues and the think not working, I am not impressed. Other that that the boat is phenomenal. Not a speed demon, but one of the best rides on the water today.

I did recently notice my drivers seat ripping at a seam. Boat is covered and under a garage every day it not on the water, so I think that is really unacceptable. On the other hand it rides pretty good to be an 18 footer, and I could afford it when I was buying. Would I buy another ranger? Probably not, but I will brag on my local dealer (beech lake marine) has done everything in their power to make every problem right.

A year away from buying a 16.5 ft deep V. What brand to go with Ranger, Lund, Alumacraft, Smokercraft, Lowe?

Picked up a brand new RT178 in 2021, don't go fishing in the rain. So much water gets in all compartments except under the bench seat.

Can you do a video on Gemini bass boats. I’ve got a 1989 Gemini 200 dcx dual console , the most storage I’ve ever seen on a boat and is powered by a Johnson 175 gt Absolutely love the video’s. I can’t wait to get a history lesson about other boats. I live in Tennessee and bumble bee was always king hear and ranger was the king of the water. If you had a ranger you was really serious about fishing.

Never owned one but I’m sure they have great resale. I haven’t been passed by one since my first boat in ‘05.
Oops, I forgot, I was passed by one coming out of creek this spring, he did have two bilge pumps working 4 boat lengths later. He had an incredible story at weigh in but my XB-21 kept us dry at 35 mph.he had 2 fish and we got a check. Small 40 boat fruit jar in TEXAS

I have a 2004 521 vx that still is outlasting ,and outperforming these newer boats . I’ve owned the boat for 12 years and I know guys that have had more problems in one season than I’ve had the entire time .

I love the design of the 520R , I’m sure it’s not build to the exact same spectacle as my 99 that was almost 30 yrs ago, fiberglass was dirt cheap back then but it’s still one of the top boats to me. As far as overall not just speed.

I bought a 2023 Ranger tin RT 188P. Overall mine is good. My issue is poor customer service including m the dealer. The boat doesn't get bow lift so the ride is wet and bumpy. It only hits 40 mph with the Merc 115. The advertised speed is 48-50. I know there are variables with the speed but come on get it close. It's been over 1 1/2 year trying to get it fixed. I'm not the only one with this issue.

Ihave a 2012 Z118. Bought it in 2020 with 70 hrs. Not long after rod locker hinges started breaking and i was like wtf. All of em were riveted in. My 97 champ didnt have those issues. And as far as i know they are atill riveted in the new ones. Seen many issues with this online. Other than that has been a pretty good boat

Andy, in your next top ten please look into the Charger boats. Charger is represented in the top pro circuits. As I understand there is 5 models with ChampioN hulls. In your ride in the Ikon boat you said it was a better ride than the ChampioN. So why not check into the Charger boats since you compared the Ikon to the Champion ride? And yes i would contribute to a river run if you get further along with the run. Enjoy all you do!

Wouldn’t trade my ‘89 363V for a new one. Gel coat still sparkles, everything still works, old 175 Black Max still gets it done. Needs carpet and upholstery redone, and may consider repowering some day but that’s about it.

Hey guys great info throughout about the industry. Little history I had a procraft with merc 2 stroke about 20 yrs ago I know not your favorite but I really liked it. I then went to a Lund deep v which was better with my wife and kids. Now I’m looking at a fishing pontoon which is really interesting if our lakes are any standard pontoons are like the suv of the boating world. Could you look into sizes and motor results, I think there is a interest amount boaters for some true evaluation about quality and performance. Just a suggestion maybe you have beaten bass boats to death😅

I’ve had 2 Rangers now both 520s. The current boat is a 2017 520c. I really like it as I did my other one. There are things that could always be better but I really like my Ranger. Concerning Nitro I’ve looked at several new ones and the fit and finish are definitely not there. I was looking at a new Nitro z21 in bass pro and the passenger seats wobbled around like a bobble head doll. Probably ok if you’re going to get a new boat every couple years but definitely not for me. Speed money no brakes! PS I checked several of the floor models adjustable passenger/driver seats all the same.

Love the support for the veterans Andy. I'm not a vet but truly respect those who have served and have helped provide us the freedom we all enjoy. Now for the video itself. Nice way to generate clicks by taking a hot button topic and promoting it. The absolute hatred for JM and Ranger boats is just astonishing to me. My 2012 pre JM Ranger was a great boat. My 2019 520C is a great boat also. Is one better than the other.....well, the fit and finish on the '19 is better. I know that goes against the narrative you want to spin here but its a fact. In fact, its a wonder my boat is even useable since its a junk JM Ranger with a junk 4 stroke 250 Pro XS. Hard to believe it I know but I've had zero (0) problems with either and in fact this is the most enjoyable well thought boat/motor combo of the 6 I've owned even as compared to your holy grail Champion which I've owned 3 of. You don't like Mercury so a couple weeks ago it was the clickbait of Merc going bankrupt; you don't like Ranger so now the vid of Ranger going bankrupt in the future.........what's next? Iphone not working like you want so Apple is going bankrupt - is that the next video? Just work on boats, do river testing, and keep your unsubstantiated opinions to yourself. That type of content will give you more clicks than this social media clickbait BS will.

Switches are more reliable than computers every day of the week. I have limited days to fish, and I don't want to worry if my boat is going to fail and screw up my fishing day. That applies to al brands. I've had 2 Rangers and loved them both. I've run several other brands too.
