Voenheim Rex You're doing god's work son
Voenheim Rex usually i discourage this kind of thing, but this is a work of art. It stays.
I am near OCD when it comes to music, so I needed a reference list. This way I can check out some of the bands I'm not yet familiar with.
coverkillernation Thanks, I appreciate it man. I understand that a list alone would defeat the purpose of making a video (or watching it, for some). That is why I put the links next to each band though, so people would be encouraged to hear what you have to say about a certain band, if they wanted, or to skip through the video if they have already watched it.
Voenheim Rex Damn fine list, in my opinion. I have my own favourites, as I'm sure everyone else does that isn't listed here, but FUCK, this is a great list! CKN.... thanks brother, and keep it up for another 5 years! \m/

I recently got back into Rush after spending the last 3 years listening to mostly metal. I love metal, but it can often suffer from over compression, lack of dynamics, and a playing style that favors assaulting the senses rather than engaging them. I was on a 15 hour drive and played Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, and Signals all the way through, then did it all over again. It was like going on some kind of aural cleanse diet, I was fucking yelling at the stereo because it sounded so goddamn good. Those albums are perfection, you can hear every nuance of every note played by every instrument.
+jaketaz Rush are amazing.
rush is garbage
I love metal, but I can agree with you. It does get pretty over-whelming at times.
I think the problem with metal is once you start getting into that metal core faze it's just kinda generic stick with More creative metal

For what it's worth, I've been watching for four of those five years. At risk of sounding kind of sappy, you really did help me realize why I loved metal to begin with. Congratulations, here's to five more ( or something)!
Best opening yet.
I was among those who was introduced to Agalloch because of you, CKN, and I just have to say thank you. Immediately after hearing about them, I sat down and listened to The Mantle and was absolutely blown away, and since then, I have been hooked. Thank you once again!
I know you aren't a huge fan of them, but I'm curious as to where you'd put Avenged Sevenfold. I mean you did do a whole discography on them.
TheNerdyGinger somewhere past #50. I did the discography out of a curious interest and revisitation of the band after years of not listening to much aside from Hail to the King. It was a nice exercise, but many would come before them.
Cool, just curious. I'm surprised you can even keep track of all the music you listen to. I listen to mostly mainstream bands, my favorites being Alter Bridge, A7X, Seether, and Disturbed, though I've started to branch out a bit. I listened to Dream Theater's Octavarium recently and loved it.
1. Tool - I can`t call them the greatest prog. metal
ock band of all time, because that ain`t true, yet to me they`ve been the biggest pure musical influence and inspiration, as a amateur musician myself I can`t just place anything above to top my admiration and love for this band.
2. Megadeth - Dave Mustaine being one of my main influences as well, only to be topped my Maynard James Keenan, and also the fact that Killing is My Business, Peace Sells, and Rust in Peace are my all time favourite albums ( Rust in Peace being the greatest metal album of all time for me.)
3. Opeth - The Greatest Experimental Prog Death Metal band I`ve ever come across, Blackwater Park is probably in my top 3 favourite albums of all time list
4. Overkill - The most consistent Thrash metal band of all time, there isn`t an album they made that I can hate on, simply because there are no bad Overkill albums, they just don`t fucking exist)
5. Iron Maiden. - My Fav. Classic Heavy Metal band of all time, it took me listening to only one song Run To the Hills to get into the band, they are probably the biggest pure metal force in modern era, and man, that doesn`t hurt their content at all, just check out The Final Frontier, or their latest Book of Souls record, that shit is majesty.
6. Pink Floyd
7. Led Zeppelin
8. Death
9. Pantera
10. The Doors
11. Queen

TheScreamnPenguin
I am tired of people having to defend themselves for what they like.
Linkin Park got me into music.
Period.
Can I objectively see why they aren't the best band in the world?
Sure.
But that doesn't change the fact that their music has influenced and reached out to a lot of people.
And they do have a massive appeal with their songwriting and diversity.
- Sorry rant over.
***** thanks
Don't be ashamed of listening to Linkin park they got me into rock/metal and I still love them today they're not the best band out there but I love them so that's all that matters to me and to other people to

Ckn watching your videos is like a musical education dude. I still think Metallica's work before the mid 90's keeps them on my own list, although Lulu, St Anger and fucking Lars Ullrich are doing there best to take them off! I sometimes think I'll never forgive them for that shit but then I just need to hear something off the first four or five albums and all is forgotten. They got me into metal so I'll stand by them, as long as the new albums not completely awful anyway but if it is then I'll just put on some Overkill which I thank you for 🙌
I don't have a particular order, but some of my favorites are
Dream Theater
Kamelot
Seventh Wonder
Symphony X
Circus Maximus
Rush
Flying Colors
Liquid Tension Experiment
Just by looking at this list, you could probably tell what my favorite genre is lol

No I'm pretty sure Lamb of God is Groove Metalcore.
K McAlpine Yeah I was thinking Groove Metal too, rather than thrash
Says he doesn't like dirty vocals yet he listens to lamb of god o_o
bob marley It's more for musical reasons.

childofbodom1314 That would be a heck of a list. i don't watch as many films as i do shows, but it would be a neat mental challenge. Would rank "The Ninth Gate" and "Devils Advocate" very high on that list, I'll say.

Some comments about the bands I listen to on this list:
Kreator - I first heard of them when my brother had Extreme Aggression CD. This band has made great albums and I just discovered their 2000's albums. Almost as good as Megadeth
Judas Priest - Well, definitely not everybody likes them. Their British steel was made for the radios (it is still a good album) but I prefer to Sad Wings of Destiny. Painkiller was their last interesting album to me.
Pink Floyd - You know, I love Saucerful of Secrets. Also Piper at the Gates of Dawn and other classic albums are amazing.
Soundgarden - Been fan since I was kid. Badmotorfinger - pure rock.
Rush - I have actually listened to their music for a very long time. Moving Pictures, 2112, Fly by Night, Permanent Waves, Farewell to Kings. One of my friends gave "Clockwork Angels" as a Christmas Present in 2016. It was such a good album I hope they finish their carrier with that album because it is hard to believe they would would make something that phenomenal anymore. They have been playing since early 70's. Come on!
Dream Theater - I have three albums: Images And Words is one of the best albums ever, Train of Thought is heavier but one of the best albums out there and of course Scenes from a Memory which is one of the most difficult albums they have put out ever.
Megadeth - The best thrash metal band ever. Period. Rust in Peace and PSBWB are amazing. Period.
Alice in Chains - Dirt is great. They have other good songs "Heaven Beside You", "Man in the Box", "Love Hate Love", "I Stay Away" with many others but Dirt is good from the beginning to the end even though I don't the vocalist.
Iron Maiden - from the debut till 7th Son - after that a couple of good songs in some of the albums.
