Often times on those days we'll go 3+ hours without talking while we work, because an episode of JRE with a theoretical physicist, a mathematician or biologist or a professional ultra marathon runner is on, speaking about the things they know best. The fact that a bunch of fishermen or house painters have the desire, interest or attention span to listen to a physicist be interviewed for 3 hours, is why Cable television is DEAD.

These podcasts are one of the most valuable things on the internet. Thank you for every meeting with scientists, but also for such characters as Mellisa Chen. I`m from Poland and I think it would be good to do more materials about other countries, their history and culture. I think it could be interesting for US citizens. Anyway - keep up the good work - I really appreciate. :)
Having academics and real intellectuals on the show has been the highlights of Joe's podcasts for me. Sure, celebrities and political personalities keep the show current, but being able to learn in this kind of setting is invaluable.
When Joe brings on physicists and astrophysicists and other scientists, I feel like I’m learning and understanding life better and I gain a higher appreciation for it
This episode is why I stick around the JRE podcast even on to Spotify. It’s guys like Brian, Bret and Eric Weinstein, and Graham Hancock that have reinvigorated my childhood interests in science and history.
Makes you feel hopeful for humanity that there are still people who are smart and ponder important ideas. It was especially important for me bc listening to the stupidity of our last president on a daily basis made me depressed. You could easily come away thinking that too many people don’t understand that they are being lied to and taken advantage of and that’s sad to watch.
I love how it's all go on the science talk, but as soon as Brian admits he has a spinal pain problem Joe can relate to, he almost immediately ends the podcast to show him some treatments to help Brian's bulging disk. Shows Joe's level of thoughtfulness and kindness, and what's really important in life for us apes. Living comfortably for as long as possible in our short time span. Props to Joe.
Totally agree! You really could feel the mood change, as Charlie said, they went from the usual mold of interviewer and intellectual to just two humans connecting over a very real common issue... I mean you could see the exhaustion and pain on brians face as he was talking about it, and you could definitely see the concern Joe had to do everything he could to help. I will say that I've heard of Lifespan and the procedure they are talking about and have to say it falls somewhat into the realm of fringe medicine not backed by science.... but i know you'll try anything when desperate enough.
@Bryan Mcgrath@@ericgraham8150 What I can at least enjoy was the length of the time, the one that trys, stayed the normal route and got to hear the thoughtful elegance of which, "Brian Greene" ,has to offer a response in candid form for a lengthy amount of time which was great until the, the one thried' tried, tried, to relate himself into the response of the thoughtful elegance of the great and powerful, "Brian Greene".

Aside from him being or seeming so genuine, he has a wonderful command of the English language. Him being so well spoken makes it so much easier to comprehend his ideas, theories and facts he has to convey. Plus he doesn’t use “like” every other second like half of the human population these days.
I agree! So good to listen to. The flow of the conversation is so good. He doesn't interrupt, he listens. Compare this to Neil deGrasse Tyson who just constantly interrupts and dominates the interviews.
I enjoyed this podcast immensely. Brian Greene has a way of speaking that never seems egotistical, condescending, or superior. Scientists like Neil D Tyson have a tendency to make the normal enthusiast feel less than worthy of hearing what they have to say. I've seen Brian's other podcasts and I have become more of a fan today. Very brilliant and eloquent. Love the science podcasts.

Wrong. He's just a reductionist pushing his shitty non-scientific dogma on us. Science has never proven we're just 3:47 bags of particles. Science has no idea what we are. It has no idea what consciousness is. It doesn't know what ideas are. By his logic it's "fine to kill unborns" because they're just bags of particles. But if that's true then it's fine to kill ANYBODY. "They're just particles"
@@oxydreamer Obviously I'm talking about people, minds, consciousness & ideas. It may be that a spirit/soul is somehow involved in these but I dunno. The burden of proof lies with the person making the claim. So the Q is do you have any proof for the claim we're "just particles"?
@@jimmiejay8174 Yes: I've been studying physics to understand what light is - it's some sort of probability wave in the electromagnetic fluid known as a 'field' that doesn't have infinite speed because it's slowed by charges & magnetic field lines (which IMO is due to the uncertainty principle). But no matter how u arrange all these physics ideas u can never convey to a blind person who's never seen blue what the experience of blue actually is. Thus, there's a set of things that can never be described by anything in science today eg consciousness, mind, ideas, emotions, bliss, pain, the experiences of music & art & blue & the stillness of meditation that is like a jacuzzi that is no longer bubbling. Greene's way of breaking down and simplifying things is such a great treat for non scientific people. You can put 10 of the most intelligent people in to same room and watch them discuss without understanding a single one of them. People such as Greene are what breeds more future scientists.
Maybe that is because scientist talk to themselves, not a non-academic. They would talk understandably to the people who dont understand their jargon in a required situation?
rare among many other of the few thousand persons living on earth today at the highest points of the continuum of general intelligence is his character: he cares whether he is understood; he is passionate about it in proportion to the importance of what he is communicating. in my experience, that caring reflects a fully developing humanness that is rarer even than his intellect. He is what his tribe deems "a mensch." I wish I could live to see him at eighty.

rare among many other of the few thousand persons living on earth today at the highest points of the continuum of general intelligence is his character: he cares whether he is understood; he is passionate about it in proportion to the importance of what he is communicating. in my experience, that caring reflects a fully developing humanness that is rarer even than his intellect. He is what his tribe deems "a mensch." I wish I could live to see him at eighty.
it is interesting that years of medical academia is learning medical lingo and becoming lawyer takes years of learning legalese that most do not understand . it is refreshing to have a subject that people spend a lot more time studying but can still have a normal conversation.
Please don't think that this.guy is deep or has any logical reason simply because he studied math and physics. The dude may by the fakest dumb intellectual I've ever come across. He literally talks in circles, contradicting things he said five minutes before and five minutes later. Dude is running from demons.
I love when Joe has guests like Brian on...these subjects absolutely blow my mind..Good shit
@Davy Zhao Nikola Tesla would disagree.
No doubt. One of the best episodes eeeeeever. Greene reminds me of a friend i have😀
We all have a friend that resembles Greene i guess.
Is your friend Brian Greene?
I learn more from these type of podcasts than I do in my college lectures.
He explained advanced theories better then most of my math professors
Mordy g Honestly same..
@James Klette 'world science festival' is the channel for more original Brian Greene. Great channel
Trust me even he isn't this good in his lectures. Not a good format to teach.
@@caterpillajoe5225 loser
Brian Greene is a VERY bright mind. The fluidity of his reasoning and his eloquence are astonishing. But almost equally impressive is the fact that Joe Rogan manages to converse with him in such a respectful but leveled and insightful manner.
Great Preperation
Joe is a serious and disciplined guy in the end
Joe is Italian, there pretty smart people!
Props to Joe Rogan. Great, great interview. How many of us could keep this conversation going so well?
I think props should go to Greene. he makes it very easy to keep the conversation going well
@@eBell05 I made a whole separate comment about that. He's so down to Earth he makes NDT and Elon seem unapproachable in comparison. AND I'm not lost with his explanations and while I love NDT he can take a simple answer and turn into a Ken Burns documentary. I don't want to imply Brian Greene is some joe schmo saying that. This guy is great for humanity.
One of the most interesting if not THE most interesting conversation between two people I have ever witnessed. Greene, as always is incredibly articulate and Rogan is at his best asking phenomenal questions that keeps the flow alive and interesting.
Professor Greene may not think of himself as an "Einstein" level physicist, but I suspect with his teaching style he has engaged a few to reach that level. What an amazing podcast, one of the few I have on the watch again list.
its cuz there is nothing to discover now like theory of relativity. he said about it time though but its not proven .
No one has reached Einstein's level. He is the single most important human to today's technology. The reason we are as technologically advanced as we are.
@@damontussing4333 I was gonna say that. Society and especially the media love to toss the word genius around like it's a common human trait. Many people think Elon is one, but in comparison to Einstein he's just really smart and busy. There hasn't been a mind like Einstein since. Hawking was pretty darn close though. It's taken the entire scientific community 100 years to just get comfortable with Einstein's theory of Relativity. lol
@damon tussing youa re aa turd , there are & were many mathematicians who were/are far ahead of Einstein . Maths for his Relativity theories were done by others majorily . What he did was coming up with different approach of gravity . Its thiking differently which was relevant .
I really like this guy. He lets people disagree and talk about their point without trying to argue or change their mind.
Wrong. He's fully trying to ram his stupid non-scientific dogma down our throats. Science has never proven we're just 3:47 bags of particles. Science has no idea what we are. It has no idea what consciousness is. It doesn't know what ideas are. He's just relying on his status as physicist to force his religion on us. Fuck this guy
@@alwaysdisputin9930 Religion of prediction and falsification.
@@alwaysdisputin9930 lol go touch grass
@@ThatisnotHair Jehovah fucking witnesses made a prediction too: they said Jesus was coming back in 1975. However, it's better to not force your dogma on people like Brian Greene & the Jehovah witnesses do.
@@xdannydangerous You haven't got any reason I'm wrong so shut tf up & admit I'm right
Brian Greene is one of the few charismatic physicists that actually made contributions to the field. There are many "pop-scientists" Joe had on the podcast but its impossible to put Brian Greene in that category.
I believe Joe "hit it on the head" when he asked Brian Greene if it was possible for other scientist to expand into philosophy or art or something that uses your mind in a different way?
Greene- "Yeah, some."
what is your definition of 'contribution'? Every physicist on his podcast has made contributions to the field, in one capacity or another. So, I'm not sure I get what you mean. Carroll? Penrose? Krauss? All have made major contributions to the field, if in no other capacity than in making the content more digestible.
Luca Ferrieri He likely means in comparison to Niel DeGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye
DEAD OWL this is so gay
@@RatsFunHouse101 Not disagreeing with you but Nye isn't a physicist nor has he claimed to be. He's an engineer.
His ability to translate complicated theories into digestible pieces of info is stunning. The subject matter is, in some way, calming.
It’s a shame I never had a pr fess or like him, my life would have been far different
Brian Greene has been one of my favorite "science communicators" for years.. There was a time when his Nova documentaries were some of the only films available on the subject of quantum mechanics and string theory. The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of The Cosmos NOVA series are still the best to this day.
Fabric of the Cosmos! I turned into such a fanboy after I saw that series. Wonderful.
Have you turned on to Brian Greene's World Science Festival youtube channel?
@@ericgraham8150 Absolutely, they're excellent talks!
