hi there!
Love that it came with a free sock.. Why do i never get that :(
never throw away that sock
My JDM import came with a 1 yen coin and a sick Japanese metal CD.
Rx8 is free
It is not a free sock, it is a pair of mens underwear :))
I got 96p in change and a few Mcdonalds sugars with my most recent car purchase. Couldn't believe my luck.
Why does Alex have an obsession with broken red RWD Mazda's
Because the exterior design is beautiful. And it has a great suspension. Sadly the wankel engine had its balls cut off due to emissions... Which is what ruins the whole car.
@@Chris-yy7qc sure the emissions is the only problem with the wankel engine xD
Good handling

Step 1:
Buy a dirt cheap running maserati quatroporte
Step 2:
Insert glorious flat plane V8 into mazda rx8.
Step 3:
RUclips it as a genuine mazdarati.
@carthrottle
Roadkill have that name first "mazdaratti"
Yeehaw, LS swap errting ! 😂
Roadkill’s Mazdarati was stolen recently. We likely won’t see that car ever again.
Awesome plan but Maserati's use a cross plane crank. Sounds amazing though.

This was my first car and it's so funny seeing you guys have the same problems I did. My car ended up with a blown engine and that little rotary cost me thousands in repairs to keep it alive. Still had my fun with it though 😁😂
Never clicked so fast
Fastest click in the west
Matt Smith i clicked very slowly. Held my finger on the notification for like 4 minutes
My FC RX7 has 223,000 miles on her and 0 rebuilds on the engine. Never skipped a beat, and still no signs of smoke coming out the exhaust. ;)
Wow. you're taking care of your FC3S really nice!
Yes they can last. The highest mileage rotary that ive heard of on forums is 400,000
Missing out on an extra 1,000 rpm there. PIN IT!
My thoughts exactly. Although looking at the power curve drop it's not going to help this poor rotary.
stock s1 doesnt really make power past 8k so stopping there makes sense
was wondering if anyone else noticed that...
@@MrDrJelly nope, 231hp at 8'200rpm...
if the car has max 9000 rpm the hp peak is at 8000... something. usually in racing they still hit 9000 because the gear is shorter than the next one meaning it will be faster to hit redline and heaving more rpm for more power in the next gear to accelerate faster out of it...
idk how to explain but you get what i mean
1:38 damn, Phil looked so stock, and slick, back in the Olden days!
I have been thinking of buying a dilapidated rx8 for a while. This was a great video for me, instant click!
Don't do it unless you have a good chunk of money laying around
Sure you could buy one for less than $1000 but it will take an additional $5000 or $6000 to get it up to 100%.
My RX8 is named Mazdalena :) and her engine is being rebuilt at the moment so this series came just at the right time!
SoldfMC why would you not put a rew instead dumb ass haha
keyboard warriors :D
Keisuke Takahasi how?
Do yourself a favor and swap the engine with a v8 or inline 6.
@@glock1inthetop45 You cant just stuff a rew in and call it a day. For the amount of money it would take, you could rebuild an RX-8 engine at least 8 times
*ChrisFix has a great tutorial on Blinker Fluid Change, Check it out*
Your on here to lmao
So does Bleepin Jeep. It's important to keep that fluid topped off.
Shit that reminds me I need to top mine up, where do I buy some, I can't find it anywhere
I seriously need to know who invented blinker fluid?
Wut even is blinker fluid 🤔🤔🤔
glad I took that 10K/year lip reading program at uni, I was able to decipher 3:36 successfully - "That's ducking terrific."
nailed it!
I genuinely don't know why my RX8 was so reliable. Started first time, every time up to the point I sold it at 92k miles. Still running perfectly with it's new owner. Never treated it gently either. 9k was hit every time I drove it, wasn't a rev limit, it was a rev target.
I still miss it.
If you heat it up and then rev it to the limiter it should last a long time.
Yup. Seems that way. First 5 minutes was never above 3.5k rpm. After that, onwards and upwards. Got to get that third port open.
These weekly videos are the best, love being able to plan to watch a Car Throttle video!! But, we need much more of them.
These cars have a place now. It was a silly buy back in the day when they were new, because you had to be a proper petrol head to maintain it and as a daily driver it is so uneconomical. but when you can buy one now for £600 and rebuild it for the cost of replacing a turbo on a convetional engine it's very interesting if you want some weekend or track day fun. When you consider its main rival the 350z is still 7k for decent one, makes you realise.... I'm very interested to see the rest of this series.
IM SO GLAD YOU GOT A ROTARY. WELCOME TO THE FAM
Can not wait to see how the inside of the engine is (looks like). Hope replacing the apex seals and resealing the engine will help. If done already, feed it some fine oil to let it feel the love! :) Keep it up, rev it well.
1:36 Damn Phil looked so different before. Can’t wait for the new paint job! 😊👍🏽
Why do you stop the Dyno at 8000? It still has 1250 rpm, and its peak power is way up there at the red line
My thoughts exactly. Didn't exactly rev it out
RX-8 can 10k RPM max.
It's over 9000!
You don't make peak power at 9000rpm unless you have some serious porting done.
Exactly, it can go to 9250 rpm, Peak power should be around 8500-8750 I think. But at least I am sure that not 8000 rpm.

I've owned my Rx-8 since she was brand new. Bought in 2007, she never let me down and I had a lot of fun with her. I would never regret going Wankel. (=
Her name is Roxette, but friends call her RoX-8. She's green, with a black roof, black rims, orange details here and there and black and orange interiors. Pretty unique, since I made her myself.
To prevent the apex seals from deteriorating too quickly, I made a modification to the oil circuit. Now I have a small additional 2 stroke oil tank and the oil metering pump draws from there, so the seals get better lubrication, better cooling and don't get stuck by the gummy waste motor oil leaves when it burns. I also like to mix a small amount of the same 2 stroke oil into my fuel tank. 100cc for every 50€ refuel should do (around 30L), twice as much for a full tank. It's one tenth of what I use for my 2 stroke moped, by the way xD
You revved yours up to just 8500 rpm... the max power output should be at higher rpm than that, but I guess many people already told you this in the comments. Call her Felicia in the name of Felix Wankel ;)

Really appreciate this series... I've been super tempted to buy one of these as a daily but I know it's a terrible idea 😣 So much car for the money and I love them but running costs are horrific and the lack of reliability would stress me
They are perfectly reliable. Just make sure you either get a compression test before you buy OR factor in the cost of an engine rebuilt into your purchase. Once done, and properly looked after, they're great.

Oh my god..next week....>< Can't wait for that!
Rebuild it. It's cheap and easy. Then drive it another 70k miles
That'll be rebuild #3....
Its not a cheapfix i think about 1k ish all included
People always seem offending about rebuilding rotaries. Lol I mean, even if it's every 10k miles, whatever. I drive my 7 on the weekends, when the weather is nice. I maybe put 2000 miles on a year. I'm well past 10k miles on a 450hp motor. Closer to 18k. I'm gonna test it down this winter. The rebuild will cost me like $2000. And the motor is now like 8 years old since I built it. $2000, every 8 years... shit, lets cut that time in half, and quadruple the price. $8000, every 4 years. That's like 3 weeks pay.
Rafas Garage rebuild every 25k tbh
Big 'ol Booty Cheeks if ur making 8000 in three weeks then who gives a fuck about reliability anyways.
This is gonna be one hell of a project car
I know that this engine has oil injectors, but how about adding a little of oil to the gas as well? Just to help with lubricanting the center of the seal, but not too much to screw up the mixture?
A lot of owners do that, and I do it too. ;)
It is called premix. The engine loves it. I put 250 ml of 2stroke oil for 60 l of fuel.
@@alexandrerousselin4467 Or just buy a series 2 (2009 to 2012). They have the extra center injector and use less oil too.
A quart of 2 stroke in it, could work
@@kevinwildash5726 Just buy an R3?
Not that easy... They are more expensive and rare in Europe...
Not mentioning that the design is a little bit different, and not everybody likes the design of the R3
@@alexandrerousselin4467 I liked the R3 design so much I bought one new in 2010 and still have it. It's just coming up to 20,000 km and completely stock - I occasionally go for a blast in the hills on weekends. In Australia the R3 is called the GT version just to confuse everybody overseas lol. But yes, they are hard to find mainly because Mazda sold so few of them due to the bad reputation that the series 1 got. It's a pity. But I love mine.
I finally let my 04 RX8 go this year. I bought it new (winning blue sport 6 speed) and loved that car more than any other vehicle I ever owned. But the 2nd engine was starting to show "signs" at 120k miles.. and there was a list of other issues that all-in-all was going to cost a big pile to get back to 100%. These cars - when properly sorted- are a blast to drive anywhere (and look good too). Think S2000 with more room and a back seat. Good luck with the build.
What blinker fluid brands you guys recommend? I need to change mine.
ChrisFix's is industry standard

You want your rx8 reliable ? Change oil, check oil at the right time, and also change spark plugs and coils, a bad ignition can lead to engine problems .. premix if you have a series 1, a series 2 already has 3 oil injectors. I am a rx8 r3 owner, it has 145.340km and the only i thing i had to do beasides regular maintenance was the cat ! If you do it right, you may not get problems, but if you dont respect the maintenace of the car and dont do it properly, and you drive like a pig without the engine being warm, its probably is going to fail ! This is my personal experience 👌🏻
Premix even with the oil injectors in the late models for good measure.
@Polyglotgiorno90 Stay strong, I'm sure you'll find yourself back on the road in a beautiful rx-8 soon after those accidents. I wrecked two Hondas and I'm trying my best to find myself a car that pays homage to the cars I liked so much, insurance is a cunt but you live, learn, and rise up from your mistakes in better shape than you were before.

Your suggestion gets an apex seal of approval 😁
@@Emppu_T. 🤣😂
Please sir , can I have some more (oil)?
You should see those dips in the power curve. That is correct operation of the variable intake runners and auxiliary ports opening up.
Three dips. Always, any dyno that doesn't have this has the resolution turned down.
You realize this car makes peak power at 8500 rpm and you were never reaching that right? Try again, I bet you'll see about 170-175
Great video, but got more interested in the legacy rs in the background for a while 😂
Dude, he didn't go to 9000-9500 rpm. You don't stop at 8k. Go look at actual rotary dynos.
Very disappointed at this guy you hired. What a smeghead.
Seriously, go Dyno the thing properly before teardown, then Dyno it properly after a proper rebuild.
I don't expect it to get much power with low compression, but if you are going to do things, do them right. Go look at Rob dahm's channel and even ask him for some advice before you make the series not worth watching.
Kaboom?
Kuro Murasaki .did you stop to consider mayyybe thats as far as it would rev?
Yeah take a broken engine to 9k
Hopefully it's just seals and basic stuff to fix that compression issue. If it's truly dickered, swap a straight 6 into it (if it will fit).
He didn't even rev it all the way out though. Not even close
So 8k is not even close, considerind the engine is damaged.
No point, Power had already dropped off 😂
Low compression will not inhibit the engine from revving to it's full extent, nor will it damage it any further than it already is damaged, which is effectively, it's not damaged, it is not actually "broken" it's just worn out and tired. Unless something like detonation or preignition happens, this engine can be revved to 10k all day long and not miss a beat. Nice try though.
no need to it allready dropped power twice on all 3 runs reving it wouldnt make anymore power just make the line longer
@@adamhorrell9030 you're wrong. It dropped where the SSV and VDI open up, there is a miniscule drop in power as those valves open up and the PCM recalculates the AFR needed to continually make power.
A fast starter helps immensely with the hot starting issue. This helps to the point where it will die while idling before you get to a point of not being able to start on the first place.
It can be helpful to run thicker oil to help seal compression a little better. However, at some point you just need to rebuild.
