I am 76years old. Yes I loved playing with paper dolls and the clothes. The part that was as neat as dressing the dolls was cutting out the clothes. Sometimes it took hours to do the cutting alone. Most outfits were included with very detailed outfits. It was an exciting time of my life as I can still feel the excitement of getting the outfits all finished so we could dress the dolls. Great summary on your recent analysis of the "Letters from Berlin". I think if we will be able to understand the situation of these two people we should know something about the time when these letters were written. 1947: two guys who survived the war. In Berlin there wasn´t just a coal shortage, but a shortage of nearly everything, especially of food. So that was the time when a lot of folks especially in Germany got a huge amount of CARE packages from the U.S. with milk powder, coffee, chocolate, food cans etc. etc. which were real treasures during this time when their currency was nearly worthless. And I assume that Jack also sent his girl friend some packages and she was very thankful for these donations. Let´s hope that this highly interesting correspondence will lead us to a happy end... 🙏 Anyways, big score on the Phillipsburg Band Front Jacket which fits you perfectly, what a thoughtful and fantastic gift in pristine condition and a great addition to your collection ! 👌Keep it up, and have a wonderful Thursday afternoon, Renée ! 🌤Greets from GER, U.
Let's just say that so far, the girlfriend would have liked to receive a few more letters than what Jack was sending. But again, Jack was over in America, making a new life, trying to reconnect with family members (which I found out from the taped interview), so my heart does hurt a little for the girlfriend and her constant waiting to hear from him on a regular basis. Happy ending for Jack, as his daughter already revealed that he met his wife here in the States. How did the Berlin girlfriend take this news? I'm hoping it is revealed in the letters! I do wonder what became of the letters he sent out... Saved? Tossed aside? Still sitting in a box in an attic in Berlin? The mysteries of paper!
I have the letters sent from Germany according to the military zones the folks were in like British, USA, etc. My husband's greatgrandmother kept all her letters from after about 1889 from Germany. So, after WWII relatives sent requests for things. They traced outlines of their feet for shoes. She even got requests for bread. So, agree with the above poster. I have the letters. We paid to get them all translated.
😍Oh Renee, from the beautiful love story and the hi-school jacket, I am so dang happy for you. You glow🌟 Renee, when you get excited with joy👍👵 Then, math is hard. I loved the jumping horses🐎.....I loved all of this video👏 can ya tell? Take very good care of yourself.
Hey Renee. I love history as well. This was the best mail day Renee. I can't believe you finally got the jacket. That was the biggest surprise ever. When I was little, I loved to play with paper dolls. It was my favorite part of life. I don't do that anymore, but it would be nice to play with paper dolls again. God Bless you Renee. The best mail day. Take care. Mari'a. 👋👋👋👋🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍🙏🙏😇😇😇👏👏👏👏👏
Paper dolls certainly take up much less room than Barbie dolls - easier to store! I imagine one could cut apart an old book or magazine and make their own dolls :0) Hope you are having a great Thursday, Maria!
Hi Renee.. So glad you are getting to the crux of the letters..so exciting....Its a film in the making. 🎥 Love that colour shirt it suits you. When I was 5 or 6 years old I remember my older sister having paper dolls There had to be at least 5 different dolls with their own wardrobe of so many different outfits She wouldn't let me play with them so I'd sneak into her room when she wasn't home and quickly have fun with them until I heard her coming upstairs. Thise were the good old days 🇨🇦🦩
Queen Mary was Queen Elizabeth the seconds Grandmother on her fathers side. I, and my extended family come from an English town, Cirencester. My Uncle was on leave during the second world war and was walking home after being dropped off about 5 miles from his parents house. A car pulled beside him, a Rolls Royce and the Lady inside offered him a ride home, not up front with the chauffeur, in the back with her. She was very interested in what he had been doing in the Army. He was naturally gobsmacked when he realised that the lady was Queen Mary. Apparantly she was well known for doing this and Cirencester has always been a place that the Royal family visited, they still do.The contents of THE box were so assorted and interesting, thamks for sharing. 😀🦘🦘🦘

When I do Norwegian to English translating, it helps that I've lived in Norway for 20 years, but also, google translate does a pretty OK job. You just have to watch out for common errors and words with several meanings. My Dad was in Berlin just after the war serving with US Army Mortuary Affairs. He met a German lady there that helped him out of a few drunken scrapes. What a cool project Carol has given you. Those letters from so long ago in a time and place so different. That's awesome that you were a mascot. So was I! I was also in band, choir, swing choir, forensics, pep-club, marching band, color squad and I was dark room editor and then editor of the school publication. Oh, to be young again and have so much energy.
I attempted Forensics but was not the best at it. Too much anxiety for me, even at that young age! Your father serving with the US Army Mortuary Affairs... Can only imagine the stories he has! His service was much appreciated and being in that field he probably helped so many people in just being able to bring some type of peace/understanding to their loved one that served during that time.

You might be interested in watching the Disney movie about the rescue of the Lippizian horses during WWII. I can remember bits if the moves! I was about ten when it came out in 1963! Miracle of the White Stallions.
My mom played with paper dolls, that would be in the late 1930’s and mid 1940’s. She loved her paper dolls like how I loved my Barbies. She would have loved to have seen those paper dolls you got in the mail; I can almost hear her excitement over them. ✌🏼❤️
What a great jacket! The light will come in very handy and all of the paper will keep you entertained for hours and hours! But I love the paper dolls! Please stay safe and be careful! ❤❤
Glad you enjoyed your vacation Renee you certainly look refreshed😊 Great about the translation - how fascinating. By the way I'd love to see you in your mascot uniform as well. Would be cute I'd imagine…
Yay on the P-burg jacket! I had fun, fun, fun with paper dolls as a kid! When I tired of cutout clothes that came with it, I would go to the old Sears Roebuck catalogs and cut my own.
Your thumbnail says it all Miss Moose ...W O W👍..First off, you colonial red shirt perfectly matches the color I paint my old radio transformers with. 🖌 interesting story about the letters to Jack from the German lady....imagine her asking him if he likes the taste of American lipstick! holy cow! 😮...........You look sharp wearing the P-Burg jacket. Is there any existing video footage of you performing as Suzie Stateliner ? I'd pay to see that! haha😊 Woody Herman was a famous bandleader in the 40's. Somehow I picture your Unknown Subscriber wearing a paper bag over his head, like the Unknown Comic.😂 you put on a good show for 30 minutes!
The paper bag over the head haha! For some reason, I can envision Dickel using this in an upcoming segment! I believe I might have a VHS tape with a few clips of my mascot antics, hidden away in a box somewhere. Still wish I would have "accidently" lost the mascot suit and kept it for myself, considering they changed it out the year after me.

I can't do a cartwheel to save my life either. However, I DID letter in High School because I was a statistician for several varsity sports .... I had it figured out. The cheerleaders had to ride the pep bus with fans to away games, but the statisticians got to ride the bus with the players....
I don't nerd out about my old high school. Had a chance to buy my friends old letterman jacket, but it was dirty, moth eaten and $65. Yuck. However I found a NOS 90's OSU cap and local 90's college "hangout" shirt for my sister's birthday and she nereded out from her Oregon State days.

Re. translating: ae = ä, oe = ö, etc. IPad has umlauts, etc.; don't know if phones do. Congrats on refreshing your German enough to translate the letters!
Italian is a simple language, just roll up your sleeves (you have a t-shirt so...) and speak terribly fast and emotionally with violent arm movements. Or Italian. German is even easier, I have had many a constructive conversation with Germans at music festivals and the like. You must have beer. If Germans don't understand what you're saying, have a toast (Germans love beer and join in every toast) and speak louder. It is my theory that Germans understand absolutely everything you say, no matter what language you say it in, as long as you shout loud enough. Except French, but then, French isn't really a language.

Hi Renee, glad you enjoyed Disney,i was at eurodisney Paris back in 2008, I would love to go to Disney Florida,i still have to build my Lego Disney castle which I got for my 50th birthday back in June.my mother is still unwell in hospital so not really in the humor building Lego,a lot of my time spending in the hospital with her.keep up the good work❤
Hi Renee,
Watching from Rhode Island, you have beautiful hair.
Congratulations on the P-Burgh varsity band jacket! It is in such great condition...like new! Always interesting things come from your viewers.
Love your hair long renee your looking fabulous
Neat stuff!
Nice haul 💜
So glad for the letter update! I have to go back to work now, but will finish watching mail day after work.😊
Your thumbnail says it all Miss Moose ...W O W👍..First off, you colonial red shirt perfectly matches the color I paint my old radio transformers with.
@@PaperandMoose haha, Dickel already did that paper bag gag a few years ago. You know him well!😂
That Jacket is Amazing, also it's Hot everywhere due to Climate Change, It was the hottest June, July and now August Ever! Also have fun in Central Park, the Boat house is now open!
Great Jacket! So many wonderfull items. No PAM? Hope she hasn't become "unravelled". After all the leters are read, you'll be able to write a screenplay. Have fun in NY, NY! 👍👍
Pam is on her little vacation now, she felt she would be too hot in Disney :0) I have a few weeks until the trip to NYC, but am excited to be going! Hope that you are feeling well!
Renee .. love all your mail days...just wondering if you got package..i sent it way back in the spring...haven't seen you open it...something for Taco Stacks in it, too...🥰🥰
Love your hair
Oh the head lamp, thats great
I love that it is lightweight and not bulky!
@@PaperandMoose Thats what appeals to me.Mine is great but flops forward because of the weight. And it catches on things
Ozone Park is a neighborhood in Queens, NY.
You should write a book Renee
You can tell you had a good time in school and that you loved school being the mascot made you very happy to be there which is very lucky cause a lot of people don’t like school and have a very hard time and it’s not very happy for them but when you talk about it, you just have this glow about you. I think it’s fantastic. That you enjoyed it so much
Gail here ! That was Queen Mary. she was Queen Elizabeth II 's grandmother .
Woosta..Woosta-sha
I love history also ❤
Great idea typing the German to relearn the language.Interesting to hear what was in the letters historically wise.
Urdu started developing in north India around Delhi in about the 12th century. It was based on the language spoken in the region around Delhi, and it was heavily influenced by Arabic and Persian, as well as Turkish.
I can't do a cartwheel to save my life either. However, I DID letter in High School because I was a statistician for several varsity sports .... I had it figured out. The cheerleaders had to ride the pep bus with fans to away games, but the statisticians got to ride the bus with the players....
🎉🎉🎉🎉
With that headset, put the light on the SIDE of your head pointing forward. Otherwise it WILL blind you!!! 😉😉
That was Queen Mary,Queen Elizabeth the second's Grandmother.
The maroon of the Pburg jacket really suits you.
Hi I was just wondering if you had received our package? It’s from Adam and Michele Glenn it was sent out a few months ago. I enjoy watching your videos!
I, also, would like to know about mine...sent in March
Really like your hair and glass!
I miss little Pam. Is she still on holidays?
I love your hair 🤩

Lol i live n fl.🏝️..Its exactly the truth about the heat..It volcano hot🔥💥🌋♨️..And swampy humidity...🥵
In the Uk we just say Wooster sauce. We don't usually bother with the shire bit unless we mean the area. Your hair is very pretty longer.
👏👏👏👏👍🏻🤠🇬🇧
Hello ,
President’s wife are definitely more interesting than their husbands, especially when it comes to clothing. Thanks for sharing.
Re. translating: ae = ä, oe = ö, etc. IPad has umlauts, etc.; don't know if phones do. Congrats on refreshing your German enough to translate the letters!
Go at Thanksgiving.
vapor bath - steam bath cabinet?
Italian is a simple language, just roll up your sleeves (you have a t-shirt so...) and speak terribly fast and emotionally with violent arm movements. Or Italian. German is even easier, I have had many a constructive conversation with Germans at music festivals and the like. You must have beer. If Germans don't understand what you're saying, have a toast (Germans love beer and join in every toast) and speak louder. It is my theory that Germans understand absolutely everything you say, no matter what language you say it in, as long as you shout loud enough. Except French, but then, French isn't really a language.
Always love your comments :0)
