Forgot to mention, I'm back up and running on Twitter! It's a new account so give me a quick follow to help me get up and running @gosforthandy twitter.com/gosforthandy 👍👍
When I was in business, I didn't lack for want of work. My customers were amazed when I showed up when I said that I was going to. 90% of being a successful small business is showing up.
Your Mrs Mac is a LEGEND! She’s got bags of skills and I’ll bet cooked and cleaned on build days too! You’ve both done a fabulous job! Those “estimates”are eye watering, it’s a sad state of affairs in the U.K. today!
I read a tip for downlights ventilation. A smallish clay pot, like for potting up plants (with a hole in the bottom) over the back of the down light. Pack the insulation around it. Leaves a nice gap around the light. You both are amazing.
It is so nice to see your lovely wife working right with you during the build. the whole build turned out beautifully. I also love the way the interior has been decorated, very eloquent! A wonderful job. Definitely enjoyed to whole series.
Being late to the party I've binge watched this entire series (as an intro to the channel for me) and it's just been incredible. What a delight throughout and the end result is splendid to say the least. I've still so much more to explore throughout all your content. I can't wait.
Andy, first of all, thank you for the videos. I've learnt much from you. More importantly, you are blessed. Mrs Mac is a genuine life partner to you. One catches glimpses of her in many videos. She's a very very rare breed.
So many similarities to our style choices. Our last kitchen was from DIY kitchen, we used boards and iron brackets for our shelves and had the same fitted bin for our recycling. Now in our new build we have identical materials and colours for the floor, units and worktop - works beautifully! Plus we’ve just bought the same fridge! Anyone would think you’ve stolen my ideas ;). Great job from start to finish. Well done and thanks for the entertainment.
Got the same large corner unit and fitted it yesterday. Two of us, he’s 70 I’ve got heart and mobility problems age 60. Neither of us over 5ft 5. We have now named the cupboard the t**t cupboard. Had visions of it being scrap, ripped from the start. Eventually got it done. Was like mission impossible!
Hi Andy. You are absolutely correct in saying that good builders are hard to find. I was a contracts manager for a 3rd generation building/decorating company in Newcastle, and had to interview potential new apprentices! It was almost an impossible task to try and find any who were half decent! I was a time served decorator and went to college for 5 years (Charles Trevelyan), unlike the apprentices coming through now, who can attain a C.S.C.S gold card accreditation after 3 years! Not many "Old School" tradesmen left now. Most so called "tradesmen" now, don't give a toss about the customer ! What most people don't realize, is that there's no such thing as a time served builder. A builder is someone who has knowledge of several trades, (usually bricklaying, joinery, etc) but has not served an apprenticeship in all of those trades! Great content this year, all the best to The Andy Mac clan! (Kev, Whitley Bay)
Great to learn about your project and see the final result. We had a similar experience to you in many ways this year. The project was/is a kitchen extension going out onto raised decking. We also had a few crazy quotes. One was £60k but when we said sorry you're way off he replied and said sorry, I made a mistake, it should have been £40k... In the end we went for a labour only deal with a builder/carpenter and paid £12k for labour. We were project managing and also had to find bricklayer (I was also the labourer for that), sparks, plumber, roofer (I did the GRP flat roof), plasterer. These together were a few k and materials were about £5k so overall did well with the spending. While £12k might sound low for a buikding project. If you add up the time him and his labourers were there it ends up being a decent daily rate and a decent profit. Also, we knew he wasn't a details kind of guy and ended up with various mistakes. New floor not being level with existing floor and water pooling on flat roof to give a couple of examples. But... he turned up and got the job done and I'm now having fun installing our DIY kitchen.
Excellent job mate but I was really hoping to see the other half of this job Mrs Mac. We did get a glimpse but you have to admit she was a star. Perhaps she's shy.
What a fantastic result Andy, I’ve loved both the renovation and extension series. Last year my then 6 yr old daughter was very sick, requiring her to move to another state with her mum to receive life saving medical treatment (even then we nearly lost her twice). The girls were gone for about a year, leaving me and her two brothers at home. One of the things that kept me sane was immersing myself in your project and thinking about what we could do to our place. Thank you for sharing!
Fantastic! You have done so very, very well and a part of you will be and live on in that house until they day they pull it down - which should be many centuries from now
Thanks for the big reveal video, the house looks amazing, you and Mrs Mack should be so Proud. All the best to you both and the family from Steve, Alex and family 🏠🧱🎄👍🏽
What a lovely house and home you both have now. Particularly liked the scaffold shelving as a nod to the build history. The kitchen looks great at night. You and Mrs Mac should take a deep bow and be so proud of yourselves. 👍👍😂
Having followed this build from the start, have to say congratulations on a job well done. Hope it gives you many years of enjoyment.... All the very best....
Great Job Andy and Mrs Mc. U have brought life back 2 a house that was probably the pride and joy of the pervious owners at one time but, like them it grew old and tired. Have throughly enjoyed watching and the hard slog has been well worth it. Hope u have many many happy years in it.
What a reveal Andy, your home looks brilliant. The effort you and your good lady put into this built has been well rewarded with a beautiful home. Loved the series Andy very well done to all.👍👍👍
It's absolutely beautiful, and totally functional for you and your family. You must feel a sense of pride every morning when you open your eyes. You did it with your own two hands. Thank you for sharing this experience with us!
You've done a cracking job there! I'm currently helping my son and daughter-in-law with their house in Whitley Bay, not too far from you. They are currently living in Croydon so commuting and doing most of the work ourselves has its challenges I can tell you!
Cheesy or not it was really grand to see the finished project and also how happy you are with it all and rightly so you have a great little Haven for you and Mrs mac. Being a builder that regularly does extentions and new builds I know all too well all the problems that regularly crop up and hats off to you you pulled it off well Be proud man you did well !
It's perfect! I'm really impressed by your work. Really like the finishing of this property, the wall colours are top notch and that kitchen looks amazing. Amazingly layed out
That's a bloody good job you've done there. We're 2 years and 6 days in to our renovation project, can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel (only new staircase, hall/landing full decoration and 3 bathrooms to go). What you've managed to achieve in a year is quite remarkable, well done.
Thank you for putting this video together, can't believe how long it takes to get a building project done, mine finally starts in Feb, that's 2 years after I bought the house! Utter madness, I'm not managing myself, my stress levels wouldn't cope with that, builder is going to manage it. You've bought up some great points which I have used to inform my architect designs. anyway thank you, have a wonderful Christmas. and Well Done getting your project complete.
Wish I had this sort of knowledge and was handy enough to do it myself. We had the same issue with quotes being extortionate. The idea was initially to do the house up and sell it as we wanted to move to a different area but wanted a bit of equity. With the quotes we got it would make very little difference to the value of our house. So we've decided just to move and get a house that doesn't need to be a project
We’ve bought a house, well 3 years ago in cochrane park with an extension which wasn’t done very well. They never moved the kitchen into it either which we didn’t mind but I think that’s what we are doing next year(s). Loved the series. DIY kitchens is where we may head. Also as for the en-suite carpet 😢. We have just had lvt tiles installed in ours and it’s really good especially first thing in the morning
What a sight, those foam panels. I still see builders using rockwool or even glass fiber as insulation which I really do not understand in the current energy situation. And nice to hear about the brick layer. That really sounds like a dream team combo.
Congratulations Mac family, its beautiful & glad you can now enjoy it. Also all hail Alan the brickie 👍 I hope many find your series in the future and watch it fully and give pause of whether they are capable of running their own extension build or not as you've been very fair laying out your experience, and where you felt able or not
Lovely high specification finish Andy. Kudos to both you and Mrs Mac for your endeavours. Nice to see the guitar in the bedroom for serenading Mrs Mac to sleep....so thoughtful. 😉
26:52 your house is absolutely beautiful. I don’t think I would change anything, including the bathroom carpeting. We did that once and it’s lovely. Not for kids, but for us older people. I’ve been watching your channel for quite some time now and was excited to see this video for sure. Merry Christmas to your family.
Great job buddy. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching you create such a fantastic space for your home. I love the attention to detail you have made. Quality workmanship. Enjoy.
Great to see your finished project. Love the colour scheme. The ceiling plastering in the bedroom, plus the even painting and lighting make it nearly impossible to see the angled part of the ceiling on the video! Congratulations to you and Mrs. Mac, and thanks for sharing the journey. Happy Christmas!
Great project! One key advantage of any level of DIY project is, as you said, that you have an understanding of how it’s put together and so can maintain it. Even if one’s skills aren’t A1, you gain in this ongoing way - and build confidence to do bigger and better things! I know I have thanks to your videos.
Awesome! My wife also loved it so it might be a mistake that I got her to watch as well 🤔. Also - not cheesy at all, I have been looking forward to this video from the start of the first one in the series.
Andy, thank you so much for doing the reveal. I have watched you and Mrs. Mac build this project from the start and I wish you many blessings as you enjoy your lovely home for years to come. Merry Christmas to you. :)
Not cheesy, I feel like we’ve lived it with you. All that hard work paid off and I hope that you and Mrs. Mac take a well earned break and have a Happy Christmas 🎉 All the best, Mandy
Andy, I think you guys have done an absolutely fantastic job. Thoroughly enjoyed the series. Your attention to detail is much admired, it's nice to see somebody making not just a good job but a really good job at it. I am one year into a five year build. I know where you're coming from regarding trades and materials, it's a head down and crack on type of an affair but never forgetting the details. It's all about the details. Cheers Stu
I've really enjoyed this series from the beginning. Never missed an episode. You can be very proud of the job. Your home looks beautiful and cosy. May you all have a lovely Christmas. Thanks.
That's absolutely stunning. My wife and i loved the informative video's, showing the potential pit falls, extensive equipment required, general advice and things to look out for, but with the right will, just how a project can come together. We are currently in the process of considering a project to extend, change our kitchen/dining room layout (Similar to the above/maybe not to the scale of this, but similar) Quotations are so few and far between. Hard to drill down on who to trust, and who to go with. We don't want to be ripped off, yet we know you get what you pay for (in terms of experience and honest work) Any advice ? Any recommendations for the full fit in terms of persons or company to go with ? P.s we live in the North West of England. Thanks
Thought you were going to say the American style fridge didn't dispense Gin. 1st world problem. All I can say is it looks fabulous. Congratulations to you both on the hard graft.

Hats off family Mac. What a great result. 👏👏👏 thanks for taking us along for the ride. Hope you have a great Christmas and some well earned down time before the next project. 😃
Excellent work, looks very cozy, also your balanced approach to builder/customer interests is admirable. Only thing is the shed being built horizontal, blocking the view of half the garden is a bit annoying..
Your hard work and time have definitely paid off, your extension is amazing. I'd like to know/see what you're doing to the rooms at the front of the house. BTW, it's your house and your choice, but I have taken carpet out of at least two bathrooms in houses I've owned (previously lived in only by adults!) and they were nasty.

No chance I'm saving this episode until Christmas. Early Christmas present.
Very good! The future belongs to those who are willing to learn practical skills and apply them.
Lovely finish GH 👌
Porcelain slabs would be nice outside? I regret putting decking down. Slippery and gets to look tatty etc and now needs replacing.
Fantastic! You have done so very, very well and a part of you will be and live on in that house until they day they pull it down - which should be many centuries from now
I have 3 builders live further down our road. Huge detached houses. Fancy big cars. Looking at your quotes, I can see why now!!
Wowser Mr & Mrs Mac! Well done peeps!!!
Brilliant extension, brilliant video , brilliant all round.. thanks for sharing..
Going to save this episode for Christmas day viewing 😁
Andy, the house looks fantastic mate.
Thanks for the big reveal video, the house looks amazing, you and Mrs Mack should be so Proud.

From one Mac family to another Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hand on heart, I dont think I've ever clicked on a video so fast! Excellent job Andy and Co. :)
You and Mrs Mac have earned a few drinks this Christmas, the extension is fabulous.
It looks fantastic, so much hard work by you both.
Top tip: hang artwork at eye level 😉
Excellent final showing.Seen every episode and would not expect any other final view. Many happy years there
Lovely high specification finish Andy. Kudos to both you and Mrs Mac for your endeavours. Nice to see the guitar in the bedroom for serenading Mrs Mac to sleep....so thoughtful. 😉
Looks fantastic, well done and Happy Christmas.
great job Andy! it all looks amazing and very much enjoyed following your journey to get to this point.
Your kitchen is absolutely gorgeous!!!😍
Sorry, a bit slow catching up, but very pleased to see the end result and ready for new projects in the new year.
Nice work Mr and Mrs Mac. Followed from the beginning and its a joy to watch

Thank you very much. Very much enjoyed the series. Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023.

merry belated xmas and a happy and prosporous new year.

Cheers Stu
So nice to see the sage green with white counter tops. Was going to do this myself when i move into my first home this year!
I've really enjoyed this series from the beginning. Never missed an episode. You can be very proud of the job. Your home looks beautiful and cosy. May you all have a lovely Christmas. Thanks.
Loved that. Thank you for taking us along. Happy festive period. See you in the new year. Stay safe
We don't want to be ripped off, yet we know you get what you pay for (in terms of experience and honest work)
Any advice ?
Any recommendations for the full fit in terms of persons or company to go with ?
P.s we live in the North West of England. Thanks
Cracking job Mr and Mrs Mac. Thanks for the videos.
Looks really grand, Andy. Well done 👏
Looking good, great job you and missus mac have done
Thought you were going to say the American style fridge didn't dispense Gin. 1st world problem. All I can say is it looks fabulous. Congratulations to you both on the hard graft.
It’s beautiful. You should be very proud of what you’ve achieved.
looks smashing, really nice. well done.
Merry Christmas, nice job 🙌
You've done an amazing job and I've loved following the series form the very start. The kitchen looks superb
Great job well done to you and Mrs Mac from Washington Tyne and Wear 👌
Hi, i am half way through a very similar project in newcastle, after a similar journey we decided to go it alone , groundworkers and bricklayers have been great, but iam scratching my head wether to tackle the pitch roof ourselves, looks the same as yours, we also have permitted planning for a hip to gable loft conversion with full dormer, so starting to put feelers out now,not sure how to approach it, trying to find a roofer / carpenter. Yours looks great and a bit of inspiration to keep going
Great job flows nicely
Carpet in the ensuite; you’ll be wearing a jumper to go down the Bigg Market in the snow next! Very well done; great to see it finished. Slàinte!
it's been fab watching this build come together, well done sir top job.
Hi Andy & Mrs m well done have merry Christmas & a happy new year
Bit different from when I first saw it, been really good to follow
Amazing! Looks absolutely fantastic. Love the kitchen. Well done for all your efforts. Wish I had the patience time and energy to do this.
26:42 mate I really loved watching from day one to now it’s fantastic and as a professional property maintenance guy my self I have learned a lot from you and thank you been watching you for years and I just love the content you put out so from the Collins and my work family pure Maintenance just in case you wonder who I was have a wonderful merry Christmas and a wonderful new year you are a amazing person merry Christmas
Hi, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Steve
Great to see the results of all the hard work you and Mrs Mac put in. It looks really nice and homely. I think you need to get some addressable RGB LED's in though, would look brilliant.
Wonderful work. Great video. Huge credit to you and Mrs Mac. Merry Christmas to all of you.
Brilliant series Andy. Loved all the videos. House looks great- well done to you guys.
