Played both Steinway and Shigeru. I'll take a Shigeru any day.

I think what often happens is that many try to relate a concept of tone in terms of brightness while not taking into consideration the ability of a piano to retain openness, translucency when more complex music requiring intricate shading of voices and extended dynamic range and other tonal contrasts. A piano should have the capability to sound both like velvet and diamonds , it should have the range to do both and that in itself puts the onus on the ability of the person who performs on it.

You're right, they do both sound great! It's a tough call for me between these two.

Would love to have these compared to a S6X or CF6 from yamaha. I know this is harder to accomplish since you're not a yamaha dealer.

I'll take both please! Would be cool to throw a Bosendorfer in there, too.

Steinways are bright pianos, Kawai's are warm pianos.

The Shigeru has a warmer sound, definitely not brighter.
