James and Mike, I dont kown if you will ever read this but I will write it anyway. I am here to thank you and the amazing work and polish of your amazing channel. I was passing through hard times in my life and you guys helped me to smile. Thanks a lot guys, keep on doing this amazing videos. I can even put on words how much your channel helped me. Thanks once again.
i feel that bro. i binge watch the avgn episodes when I'm down. something about them is comforting lol. i guess nostalgia mixed with the nerd room looking cozy
Food fight, man that is my childhood game and I still have the cartridge and box :) it feels weird seeing you guys playing it because I just wanted to join you. Thanks for the nostalgia!
this and Kid Niki, Goonies arcade and Willow arcade games were my favorites growing up. i rushed to the convenience store every day to drop all my quarters into this machine..thanks for playing this!
I totally remember playing this game! I got a huge smile when I saw the youtube recommendation and saw the cover art. Thanks for doing the obscure things so I don't have to.
+Holocaust Bakery I'm surprised they said Taylor Pork Roll. It's usually either Taylor ham, or pork roll, depending on north or south jersey. I also can't believe the rest of the country doesn't do mischief night.
Wow, I haven't seen Food Fight in ages. I remember playing that with my best friend in kindergarten. For some reason throwing the bananas was my primary recollection of this game.
Nostalgic food? The thing I miss the most, for some horrible friggin' reason, is TMNT hostess turtle pies I have no idea why, but for some bizarre reason I crave them to this day. They must have had some kind of addicting chemicals in them. I can vaguely remember the taste, and it's ...vaguely close to the vanilla pies they do make. But for some reason I miss the taste of those pies. Other than that, I'd like to taste ecto-cooler again. But I don't even vaguely remember what it tasted like
A buddy of mine from upstate NY introduced me to Taylor Pork Roll and Frank's Red Hots/White Hots, every once in a while they show up in my local supermarket but not often. Thanks for the video!
You should call this show: James and Mike discuss life over an old game :P I love the stuff, even though it's usually before my era or typically American :3
I've always heard about this game but never saw gameplay footage, This is really interesting for an atari game, picking up items around the stage is so ahead of it's time and the animations are pretty good too.
I'm dying over here while you explain pork roll. I always thought people out West were weird for not knowing what it was. Another great experience is explaining a chicken cheese steak.
I love when you guys play Atari games. It flashes me way back. XD You should play Plaque Attack someday! That was my favorite when I was, like, four years old. lol
Food fight! I loved that game as a kid. On the watermelon levels, I would just stand on the watermelons and chuck them in all directions, very rapidly because they don't run out. I was a little disappointed that you didn't do that. You just walked by them and picked it up and walked away each time.
I loved this video from the moment it was about Atari. Then the Elios pizza and Captain Crunch took it to a whole new level. But Pork Roll? Wawa? That made me so happy lol. Jawn.
Referring to the pork roll discussion...our country (US) is so large that there are regional tastes. Companies often take this into consideration when deciding what products will stock in what regions. Many times something that is considered tasty to a large percentage of people in one region will offend the taste buds of a large percentage of people in another region.
Nostalgic comfort foods for me are homemade bean burritos, homemade spaghetti with garlic bread and salad, bbq chicken with potato salad and Hawaiian sweet rolls etc. I love these dishes and they remind me of my childhood.
The 7800 was ready for release in 1984, but this got pushed back to 86. So it was hardly cutting edge by the time it reached the market. Then again, the Famicom (NES) was originally released in '83.
A couple of days ago I went to a Pourhouse in South Jersey, and they had an unbelievable bison burger. Also, their Second Coming burger won a Philly award for best testing burger, I think.
I think when people say "When I go to the east coast, I gotta get some pork roll." They are referring to the ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. I've had one in Redbank, NJ from Johnny's and it's really good!
Food Fight and many other 7800 games were made in 1984 because the 7800 was due to be released that year, however Atari and the mismanagement of Jack Tramiel decided to wait a few years therefore the system and the games rolled out in 1987, well within the golden years of the NES.
The best burger I ever had was at a place called The Vortex Bar & Grill in Atlanta, GA while I was there for work. It was enormous and full of toppings. They also cooked it to perfection and didn't ruin it by making it too greasy or dry.
Dear James, I really enjoy your humor and videos you make. I'm sure you already have planned what videos your going to make in the future, but I wanted to know if you could do a review on the Atari 7800 and the games for it. Also, maybe do a review on the Sega Megadrive. That's one old console I'm not very familiar with, and I'm sure you could make that into a funny review. Thank you for countless hours of laughs, and I hope you continue to make videos.
The tri-state are was a bi-state are with an adjacent area, right over there. You put it all together and there's no use denying, this day is all about our area unifying!
I think also Scrapple is a non-existent thing beyond the tri-state of Jersey/PA/NY also. When my family briefly moved from NJ to NC back in 1988, not one supermarket or restaurant had scrapple from KY to GA. Have fun trying to explain that food to someone in the south back in the day. (Not sure if it's still MIA out there with all of the transient Jersey-folk moving south in their retirement years). Best burger I ever had at a chain - Jack Daniels Burger at the TGI Fridays in Marlton on Rte 73. And yeah, Taylor Porkroll is awesome. I think they have chain food places all over the boardwalks of NJ - I know there was one in Cape May and OC when I was a kid.
10:12 As a California native, having grown up with it, it's definitely a big deal to me because it's so nostalgic and it still tastes great today. But IMO the best (non-homemade) burger not from a chain is from Hodad's in Downtown San Diego, CA.
We have Taylor's Pork Roll in grocery stores in Florida, I love pork roll. If I were to describe it I'd say it tastes less like ham and more like those beef/summer sausage logs that are everywhere around Christmas time, just less zesty/sausage-like. Like a ham sausage. Best tasting chain burger place: Five Guys Burgers & Fries. They actually taste like someone went out to the store, bought fresh meat that day, and then made the patty & grilled it right when you order it. New band name: Fried Ham Sausage.
Fast Food was one of my favorite Atari 2600 games when I was a kid... back then, we had to play on the black and white TV instead of the color TV (I think my folks were afraid we'd break the good TV or something)... it was impossible to tell the regular pickles from the purple pickles (sorry, they weren't "eggplants," the manual called them "purple pickles") so when playing I had to avoid every pickle- very anxiety provoking as you progressed.
I love Taylor pork roll. get the thinner slices and fry up 4 pieces and place it on an English muffin with some ketchup. amazing! How do you guys eat it?
Ellio's pizza was a guity pleasure when I was a kid. I never cooked it right. Either in the toaster oven or microwave. Sometimes the crust would be soggy or the pizza would still be half frozen, but I still loved it.
Arthur's Treacher's for me bud. SUCH good chicken&chips(fries). Literally unbeatable batter. There are only 7 left in the whole country, most of which are far away from me in Ohio. Everyone should get an opportunity to have their batter dipped chicken, or fish whichever meat they prefer, it's mind blowing.
Great video as always! You should play: Kung Fu Heroes (NES), Legend of the Mystical Ninja (SNES), Kid Chameleon (GEN), and/or Star Tropics (NES). Thanks and keep up the good work.
I like getting hashbrowns at the store, they are the same ones the fast food places use. Frozen hashbrowns, but you can get like 24 of them for $4 in the frozen food sections of most grocery stores.
I think a small problem the Atari 7800 had vs the 5200 and the NES were inferior sound. The 5200 had a 4-channel POKEY, while the 7800 had the same 2-channel TIA as the 2600. I'm not sure why they couldn't have both the TIA and the POKEY in the 7800 since it would've given the console 6-channel sound and be somewhat on par with the NES' 5-channel sound. Instead, the POKEY was only an option to be used for some games. Graphically, the 7800's MARIA and the NES's PPU are mixed: 🔹The NES' resolution was 256×224. And while the 7800 was capable of 320×240, this was more demanding, so 160×240 was more often used. 🔹The MARIA chip was able to display theoretically an infinite number of sprites without flickering. The PPU could only show 8 per scanline, with a hard limit of 64. 🔹MARIA sprites could have from 1 to 12 colors. PPU sprites could only be 3 colors. 🔹The MARIA had a color palette of 256 colors. The PPU had a palette of 64. 🔹The MARIA couldn't handle tile-based graphics as easily as the PPU, making full-screen scrolling difficult to implement. However, the MARIA was capable of bitmap graphics, while the PPU could only use tile-based graphics. I think sound was more a problem than graphics where. Visually, the 7800 was pretty impressive, and in some cases better than NES, but the sounds were literally the same as the old Atari 2600!
DejaVoodooDoll I thought I mentioned that, but I guess it slipped my mind. But yeah, in that respect, the 7800 could stand up to the Famicom since the FC also allowed soundchip expansions. Shame Nintendo removed that ability with the design changes for the NES. I'd have been blown away if I was able to hear games like Castlevania III the same why I would have if I lived in Japan. Who knows? It might've encouraged similar designs in North American and European developed NES games, assuming Nintendo would've also allowed more companies to use custom chips rather than only Rare. (And Atari/Tengen if you count their unlicensed carts, and by extension, all unlicensed NES games.)
We still have McDonalds cookies here in Australia. However, our Maccas (that's our colloquial name for it) has evolved significantly past the original clone of the U.S. franchise - but still offers the classic burgers such as the Big Mac and Quarter Pounder.
I remember going to Fun Spot in NH and they have a level with all old retro games. They had a game where you fill up beer and serve it.. I think you guys played it once
+Dylan Cataldo I think you're referring to "Tapper" aka "Root Beer Tapper" (Since they couldn't promote alcohol with Budweiser beer in the original game, in many arcades they had to change the sprites and backgrounds to root beer), you play as a bartender serving 4-5 different bars in one room and you tap kegs, tossing customers mugs of drinks, running to collect tips, and keep doing so until they are all pushed out the swinging doors, after which you serve yourself a tall cold one and either kick the mug or miss and break it onm the floor! lol
The graphics in the Food Fight game are better then the animation in the Foodfight movie.
As well as the sound design and the voice acting.
+AJdunk **poops out tears**
wait for sausage party, looks very promising.
Your animation is the fucking best you fucking awsome guy. your youtube channel is so filled with quality content. I'm so jelous.
+AJdunk Foodfight is the pinnacle of human achievement, you're just jealous.
Food Fight was one of my favorite games! So happy to see you playing it! Totally just made my day!
I'm really digging these Monday shows, always introduces me to a new game I've never seen before.
Old game* ; )
Touche :3
"The Horizontal Kaboom" is in the Kama Sutra, I think.
You should play Ride to hell: Retribution Mike and James. It's been called one of the worst games of all time.
I second this.
So was rise of lyric, love to see what they think of that
+Liquid Ocelot No.

+SupaNintendoGirl Eat a Snickers, better?
That B&B impression! Mike, you're the best!
I remember playing Food Fight on the Atari Flashback when I was 7. I always thought the player looked like Wooper when he ate the ice cream lol
My favorite nostalgic food would have to be Flintstones Push Ups.
Right? I liked those and those cartoon shaped popsicles from ice cream trucks.
Food fight, man that is my childhood game and I still have the cartridge and box :) it feels weird seeing you guys playing it because I just wanted to join you.
Thanks for the nostalgia!
man you akways give me a smile with this Mike and James Mondays :)
Keep up The good work!!

this and Kid Niki, Goonies arcade and Willow arcade games were my favorites growing up. i rushed to the convenience store every day to drop all my quarters into this machine..thanks for playing this!
I totally remember playing this game! I got a huge smile when I saw the youtube recommendation and saw the cover art. Thanks for doing the obscure things so I don't have to.
The best part about watching avgn through the years was understanding all the regional things around and here in NJ, makes me feel right at home
Food Fight is such a good game it's got a movie adoption! I've always wondered where the inspiration for that masterpiece of a movie came from!
Guys, play some sonic the hedgehog with atari controller.
12:21
James is so excited that Mike made it over 1000. Mike doesn't even care. :'(
Nostalgic food?
The thing I miss the most, for some horrible friggin' reason, is TMNT hostess turtle pies

Other than that, I'd like to taste ecto-cooler again. But I don't even vaguely remember what it tasted like
+PsychoIncarnate *Addictive.
+PsychoIncarnate
I was gonna post the TMNT Pies, as well. No shame atall...they were deeeelicious. They need a reboot!
My uncles french fries...he passed away years ago...
Hop on the feels Train, you are all welcome, tickets available
+PsychoIncarnate Oh my god Ecto-Cooler. I remember that, it was my favorite drink as a kid. I remember exactly what it tasted like!
+PsychoIncarnate Anybody remember the Wonder Ball?
Mike is cool, watching these old videos help my anxiety big time. Thanks James and mike. I always wait for new updates.
I love hanging out with Mike and James
Cinemassacre rules!
Thank you, guys! I love your videos!
A buddy of mine from upstate NY introduced me to Taylor Pork Roll and Frank's Red Hots/White Hots, every once in a while they show up in my local supermarket but not often. Thanks for the video!
Guys, play Burgertime on NES!
You should call this show: James and Mike discuss life over an old game :P I love the stuff, even though it's usually before my era or typically American :3
I see.. That's... one opinion, I guess.
Great idea of putting the Panic Restaurant music at the beginning. Regards from Chillán - Chile :)
I loved that Ecto flavored Hi-C they had back in the day!
LOL'd hard at the CHOMP sound effect Mike did... Bloody hell that was a good laugh
These are two of my absolute favorite games... Brilliant selections.
I've always heard about this game but never saw gameplay footage, This is really interesting for an atari game, picking up items around the stage is so ahead of it's time and the animations are pretty good too.
More B&B references please! Holy crap, this one was good!
Food Fight, brings back memories. Loved that game.
Almost as much as Hot'N'Now burgers. Too bad they're all gone now
i loved food fight in the arcades,it was cool to see all the different ice cream flavors and i got so excited when i got the instant replays.
One of my earliest memories of gaming is of me playing fast food!! Must have been like 1989-1990, fell in love with videogames at that very moment :D.
All ya'll who dont have In N Out are just jelly, only people who dont like it tend to be people who dont live where it is and just visit and try it.

This game is honestly really fun. They need to remake this with coop online multi and leaderboards.
+Chesi Fox "this game".
There's two of them, you realize.
cool you played a 7800 game! I emailed James a month or so ago asking to see some of those games. thanks guys
Loved that impression, Mike.
That tune that plays before the level starts was played with a bugle in the Army to let troops know the mess hall is open.
I loved Food Fight and my 7800. It took a long time to figure out that it wasn't the 2600, I had it when I was 4 and only fleetingly remembered it.
Yet another good video. Well done.
I loved this video from the moment it was about Atari. Then the Elios pizza and Captain Crunch took it to a whole new level. But Pork Roll? Wawa? That made me so happy lol. Jawn.
Fruit roll ups and gogurt brings back a lot of good memories of summer camp :)
4:35, correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's the bugles tune for Mess call. Quite appropriate since it's a game about food.
Referring to the pork roll discussion...our country (US) is so large that there are regional tastes. Companies often take this into consideration when deciding what products will stock in what regions. Many times something that is considered tasty to a large percentage of people in one region will offend the taste buds of a large percentage of people in another region.

Interesting seeing these old games :)

PORK ROLL from NJ!! I had to wait once a year when my dad would visit home in Holmdel to get Pork Roll! I loved it!
Fast food is still one of my favorite games.
Love these videos :D
A couple of days ago I went to a Pourhouse in South Jersey, and they had an unbelievable bison burger. Also, their Second Coming burger won a Philly award for best testing burger, I think.
+Lotus Prince You should've made some pics of that burger and post 'em. Damnit.
+lurkerinthedarkness I didn't order the Second Coming, but a Western Burger instead. That said, it was still worth taking pictures of. :)
There's something magic about a good burger. Nothing quite like it.
+lurkerinthedarkness Very true.
I think when people say "When I go to the east coast, I gotta get some pork roll." They are referring to the ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. I've had one in Redbank, NJ from Johnny's and it's really good!
Talking about my home and native land! Been watching for years and I had no idea about those NJ roots.
Those McDonald's cookies were freakin delicious. See's candy is also in walking distance from my house. Good stuff
Food Fight looks like fun, and the little chefs are adorable :)
Food Fight and many other 7800 games were made in 1984 because the 7800 was due to be released that year, however Atari and the mismanagement of Jack Tramiel decided to wait a few years therefore the system and the games rolled out in 1987, well within the golden years of the NES.

Oh my gosh Mike your beavis and butthead impression was dangerously accurate
These make my Mondays
Asparagus is delicious. With butter on it, are you kidding me?!
I think this game at least competes with several of the black box nes titles.
My dad loves Taylor Pork Rolls, but they stopped carrying it at Stop & Shop in Connecticut. Do they even make it anymore?
Such a fun episode!
Dear James, I really enjoy your humor and videos you make. The thing I liked most from my youth doesn't even exist now: Hot N Now
There is still one in Sturgis, MI. Right off M-66

Everyone should get an opportunity to have their batter dipped chicken, or fish whichever meat they prefer, it's mind blowing.
There are 3 umami burgers in NYC one in times square, one on west 6th and one in Brooklyn!!!
Wow! It actually looks like what it's supposed to be! What an achievement for Atari.
An episode with Pork Roll and WaWa! The most New Jersey episode ever XD
I loved Fast Food growing up. I used to play it quite often.
I totally dug the 7800. We had a 5200 and the games were great as long as the controllers worked.
The graphics in Atari food fight are better than in the movie foot fight.
White mana, Rut hut and jimmy buffs in jersey are great. Also the Silverball Museum in Asbury Park New Jersey is fantastic.
I think a small problem the Atari 7800 had vs the 5200 and the NES were inferior sound. The 5200 had a 4-channel POKEY, while the 7800 had the same 2-channel TIA as the 2600.
