Just rewatched this video and it is pretty funny to hear James and Mike talk about how great it would be to do a show with Gilbert Gottfried. 3 years later it happens. Fun Stuff
To this day, I still consider Aladdin on Genesis as one of the best movie-based video games ever made. It just perfectly captured the feel of the film itself which so many developers miss the mark on.
I wonder if they knew about the secret life you can get in the desert level. At some point in the level you will see a clothes line with a mickey mouse hat hanging off of it. If you place Aladdin just right, where he does his idle animation and places his head under the mickey mouse ears, an extra life appears above it. I found that accidentally as a kid just because I figured it would be funny to see Aladdin with the mouse ears on. It was a pleasant surprise.
Whu..whu..What do you...what do you think Morty? That tha That's my new catchphrase whackityschmackitydoo Uh I don't know Rick it sounds kind of silly I mean I don't think it really works for you
@@jojoface4940 You must not have seen very many movies... Manos the Hands of Fate, Monster A Go Go... pretty much anything MST3K ever did an episode of is way worse, and they've done over 200 movies.
The one on Snes was made by Capcom, it's quite different apart from the sword thing. Aladdin apples don't actually hurt the enemy, just stuns them and then you had to jump on them.
On the 1002nd night Scheherazade came to the king with 3 kids and asked to not execute her to which he replied "I forgave you long time ago, before we had kids because you're pure, honest and god-fearing".

The more I see of Mike's quirks, like singing the theme songs and reminiscing about 90s cartoons, the more I love this guy and would love to have an afternoon just sitting by him on the couch and talking.
I didn't grow up with this game, but I thoroughly enjoyed this video (as I normally do you guys' stuff). I loved hearing about the different movies/shows, Robin Williams and you guys' memories. Good stuff.
Aladdin series might be the best series disney did after any of their movie. Some episodes were really hectic and genie was fun to watch. The sequel too.. Return of Jafar wasn't as good as original but it was one of the best (direct to vhs) sequels they did.
This along with Toy Story were some of my favorite games on the Genesis. I would spend countless hours with my sisters doing time trials to see who could beat the whole game the fastest. Man nostalgia!
+Internet Person If you saw the movie you'd know that what you saw in the Genie's level of the Genesis version of Aladdin took place with Aladdin trapped inside or buried beneath the "cave of wonders."
You would have had a point, except for the fact that the level Internet Person is talking about is literally called "Inside the Lamp" by the game itself.
I hated the DOS version cuz it had that lifebar that arbitrarily blocked a third of the screen.... Genesis version was best, but the latter Windows 95 port(for the Jungle Book and Lion King pack in) was the best port to another system.
I also remember some version on computer, which looked a lot like this one. But the only difference was that your health was indicated by Genies facial expression.
my friend has lion king on genesis and i had it on snes, as far as a remember both are the same, might be few slight differences... and Bugs bunny or looney tunes basketball(dont remember the name) was dope on snes also
So glad you guys finally did this game. I"m sure my parents were baffled when they kept hearing "stupid stupid tractor beam!" from my room when I was on that last level.
To the best of my knowledge, Nintendo didn't "remove" the sword from Aladdin, as the game on SNES is totally different from the one on Genesis, and made by a completely different company. They may have told Capcom to not include a sword, but you can't take something away which didn't exist to begin with.
If you read the Arabian Nights tales, you can see how little it shares with the related story. The fact that this is based off a 20's movie makes a lot of sense.
In the original book for Aladdin, Genies were basically evil and played tricks on and tortured their masters. The word Genie comes from the Arabian word Jinn, which was basically an Elemental Spirit Demon from a parallel world to ours. Disney changed a lot of stuff, but in doing so they made an awesome franchise out of it.
Virgin's Disney games are all beautiful. Most of them, however, are brutally difficult too. I loved Treasure of the Lost Lamp, Merlock is a great villain.
What always surprised me with the movie based Disney games was that a lot of them were hard, although usually because of bad controls. The SNES Jungle Book comes to mind. Oddly enough, those based on the afternoon shows (Chip'n'Dale, Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop) weren't as difficult usually.
It's a shame that most Disney games range for too easy, even for kids to super hard because of bad design more than everything else. The afternoon show ones you mentioned were the best ones for me, they were fun and challenging to play.
There was a move that Aladdin could do in this game that is not used alot. If you held the Up button while standing completely still(you should see Aladdin look up), and then pressed A, B, and C at the same time: Aladdin would perform 4 upward thrusting cuts, three on each side. This was a great move to use if enemies were throwing projectiles on either side of you or if you thought something might get passed a regular sword swing. It was the equivalent of a makeshift shield.
Playing an old Aladdin video game is high on the list of stuff I would not want to do, but somehow watching you guys do it and listening to your commentary makes it interesting.
Aladdin is also the 3rd best selling genesis game. I didn't even know the SNES one existed or was different till years later. Even though that one is made by capcom (who made all the other awesome nes and snes disney games) this one is way better.
Even though I know they're both fans of Chrono Trigger and FFVI (FF3 US), I'm not sure they're huge RPG fans. Action or otherwise. I don't know how many 50 hour games either of them dived into once it was the PS2 era, so I wouldn't bet on either of them playing it. Mike would be the one who did if so, based solely on his love of Disney.
I think they are but for a J&MM Video, something like FF6 would take so long for them to record, especially because they probably haven't played the game in 20 years. But this would definitely be amazing to see them do.
Micheal Woods I was raised a Catholic, i dont believe in the staunch rigid laws taught in religion, just be a good person as best you can, and who knows where you'll end up, when you condemn people for not believing in your god and telling us we'll all burn that's a complete contradiction as to what it is to be christian and a heinous act, as it says in your book "let he who is without sin........." Maybe you should look at yourself.

In 1994, for my 8th grade spring choir concert, we sang every song from the movie Aladdin. Listening to Mike sing brought back those memories. Of course I don't remember the words.
The book is called Arabian Nights in English. It has Aladdin, Ali Baba, and Sinbad the Sailor. I only ever read Sinbad though, but I'm sure Disney dumbed it down like they did with Hercules.
Mike actually sings awesome. Hits all the notes and voice is shaped for singing. Wouldn't really think that after hearing his talking voice with the geek and Bugs Bunny impressions lol.
Hercules for the Playstation is another great example of an awesome side-scrolling Disney game. You also get Danny Devito yelling at you the whole time.
Jojo StarRipple the SNES had better sound quality, but with this game, the Genesis track was better, simply because it was the original tunes, and the charm of the Genesis’s poor (by today’s standards) sound quality really works well for it, graphically not much difference, and I liked the gameplay of the Genesis version more.
I like it how James and Mike are man enough to say they want to play Little Mermaid again without cracking an awkward joke for the camera.. So yeah hats off and good on ya guys.

Me too bro
Did Gilbert Gottfried do that episode because of Mike's plea?
Mike is right, Christopher Lee was in Arabian Adventure. Lee flew around in a flying carpet and was essentially Aladdin.

looks like hercules on psx
Toy Story 2 for me.
James seems so used to Mike babbling on musicals, he just goes into auto-tune out.
No he had a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in his ear.
God knows the things James has seen at this point
Listening to Mike singing the Aladdin songs was awesome.
It is my ringtone now :-D

Nintendo didn't censor the sword , the game was just completely different and made by Capcom
Underrated.
Agreed
Yeah I thought it was censored until I saw that there are no common levels
Jesus thank you. The parkour was his weapon, not just apples. And the floating scarf was great.
I think it would even have blood if it were made by camcom bro
I would say my favorite movie has to be Treasure Planet. It sucks that it's so underrated

If I'm not mistaken they actually had Disney animators working on the game! Same with the Lion King game for the Genesis. It really shows.

No, they have a close friendship.
Stupi musical parts are the worst about disney movies look at that doofus
