Didn't really see any comments telling if this worked out for them or not. So I tried it and it worked out great for me. I did it exactly how he did in the video and I used pure paraffin wax by the name of "household wax" it came in a box of four bars for about $5 and a grocery store here in California. I will be skating tomarrow and see if this wax holds up to the job. Hopefully I won't be taking my trucks apart anytime soon to re-wax it.
I have come from 5 years in the future to ask you what grocery store in California sells this "household wax". I live in Cali so if it is local, I'll get that instead of ordering on Amazon.
I just tried it on my landyachts dinghy and it worked amazingly. Before, it was extremely loud and squeaky but now both trucks are completely quiet. So thankful for this video!
Thanks rat vision!! This really helped me a lot. Now I feel so much comfortable skating without those annoying squeaks. Well anyways I just wanted to say thank you for making skateboarding simple and taking your time explaining all these things. THANK YOU!!!😄😄😄
The bushings were making the noise. That's why when you tightened them it went away. You can put wax on the trucks and bushings to make the noise go away. It is normal for some new trucks to squeak.
A grinding noise is going to be coming from the bearings. That's not good for a new board. See if it is all the wheels or maybe one. Try to locate the bearing or bearings that are possible making the noise. What did you get?
If anyone gets a clicking or rattling noise from a board u just bought, check the 4 screws holding the trucks to the board because sometimes they are loose resulting in the rattling you may hear
The bolt holding the bushings being loose may also cause a rattling noise as well. I had taken apart the trucks for my longboard and when I put it together it made that noise, and tightening that bolt fixed it.
@@theworldshelper1964 Probably just need some better and or more wax as it's probably the contact with the metal and bushings creating the noise, mine still squeaks as well annoyingly too. I need to wax it again, properly :]
It's entirely up to you. It depends on the skating you're doing too, but with many things in skateboarding, it's all about your own personal preference. Do what you like.
I just happened to have some of that very brand household wax so I decided to give this a shot. I had always just done those temporary things to stop the squeaking and I've had this board for over 5 years xD This worked perfectly and after getting new bearings it's the quietest my board has probably ever been :3
hey I need help I bought new trucks about two weeks ago ( enuff trucks ) and everytime I land a trick hard they get stuck turning the direction most of my weight was centered. I'm not a very heavy guy I weigh 70 kg. do you think there's anything I could do to fix this or are the trucks just faulty?
+Patryk Gizicki If the board feels fine while riding then nothing is wrong. It's very normal for the bushings to be a little compressed or stuck leaning to one side when you are not standing on it.
Oh wow... Its funny how this really worked for me. I had a white candle in my kitchen in the drawer... I actually didn't wanna go downstairs to the grocery store... Yes here in NYC we call it going downstairs. I used what I have and got rid of the squeaks. Well done...
Sure there is. I haven't personally done it myself, but it can be done. You can actually get small tubs of Bondo. Just follow the instructions. It's not going to be permanent, of be better than cement, but it will at least do the job for awhile. Make sure you get the surface of the surrounding cement in the crack as clean as possible, with no dust at all. This will make the best bond.
It's actually rubber. It's a nose guard for a surfboard, but also works great for a skateboard too. It by the brand Surfco Hawaii and simply called a Nose Guard.
i just got a new longboard a few days ago it first started off quietish, now after my like 4th time having a decent tour on it on my way back it started being really squeeky. now it squeeks really loud with any movement at all. like even if i just push the board with 1 finger down on either side it squeeks really loud lol. so i'm glad their is a fix.
Hey man when I drop my skateboard, nose up, and tail on the ground, like when you step on the tail it goes up, and when I let go of my foot, it sounds like metal being dropped on the ground. Also, when I ride on a rough road, it makes a rattling noise or vibrations. Kind of like a loose bold or a washer. I've tried removing the trucks with the wheels and the bearings on, and I did the same thing, I dropped it, and it didn't make the noise. Please help.
It can be a few things. You may not have tightened your truck mounting hardware tight enough. Your axle nut is too lose, or your kingpin is too lose, or it is the pivot cup.
No it's just friction. The surface of the bushings rubbing against the truck make noise. Some bushings make more noise than others. It has nothing to do with pressure. Sorry for the very late reply.
+Eightbitacid Sounds like a good science project. How much poison is on unwashed fruit? How much washing do you need to do to remove all the poison? How much does running fruit under water for a few seconds actually remove the poison? Does it? How much poison does the average person actually consume? Not only is there poison, a lot of fruit is made with GMO to make them last longer, smell better, taste sweeter, grow bigger, etc. And what effect does that have on your body? This is why people buy organic. "All natural" is NOT organic. Snake venom is 100% all natural, and that stuff will kill you. So, you can't believe everything you hear in the skate industry or any industry really.
LOL to both your statements/questions. The washer thing is a whole video we plan to make. The washer is a very important part of the truck, because it changes the way the bushings respond. It's pretty technical to talk about in a short response. When the bushing compresses to one side the cup washer creates a smaller bulge storing more energy for the bushing to rebound with. A flat washer doesn't do much and is less effective, because now the entire compressed side is bigger-less energy/rebound
Yes. snowboard wax is usually only be made of paraffin wax. Some brands add stuff to make it stick better to the board, but it should work fine even if you have wax with added stuff.
You can get new ones online. Be careful if you do because there are 2 different sizes out there and you'll need to get the one that fits your brand of trucks. If you have a local shop you might be able to get one off an old truck that they have sitting around, or they might actually sell new ones.
Ha. That would be a great video! I did this a couple times about 15 years ago when I was in high school. I skated to school but wanted a board small enough to put in my locker. You got the right idea. Just use cardboard or heavy paper for a template and trace the cut out on the deck. Just give it a little tail like you see on Penny boards. Make sure you have your template dead center so the truck mounting holes don't end up crooked.
It's a surfboard nose guard that fits perfectly on decks. It's simply called a nose guard by Surfco Hawaii. It's pricey only because you buy it as part of a kit with stuff you don't need. It's about $16, but works great, and really isn't that much considering the price for decks.
Did it fall out with your truck still assembled? If so that is weird and extremely rare. You should be able to get a new one at a local shop. See if you can get one from an old truck they might have floating around the shop.
I barely got the tip of my finger in there, and it's actually a larger pivot cup than street trucks. Just put some in there. You can use the back end of a pen to help.
Sorry for the late reply. Well I don't know what you paid for it. On the Zumiez site it goes for $165. As a new longboarder, there are some better deck shapes that are more versital that you could enjoy more. The Habitat shape is totally fine for cruising around, which is what most new longboarders do anyway. It's just as good as any other boards sold, as far as quality. If you like riding it that's all that matters, right?
I wonder if the kingpin bolt is sticking out the bottom of the baseplate. There has to be something under the baseplate. Take off the bolts and see whats going on underneath. Maybe it's the deck.
I've never seen stick wax, so I'm not sure if it would be OK. I imagine hockey wax being a little sticky. If stick wax is like the paraffin wax you see in the video then go ahead and use the stick wax.
DAMN... how about that? That's one of the coolest comments we've ever got! Glad to hear we got you skating. I feel a tear coming on. If you have any questions about anything, send us a private message through our channel. What type of skating do you do?
Other brands of bushings don't fit Indy's that good at all. If you have the big washer on, that is on the baseplate side take that off. The big washer won't be doing anything for the bushing anyway.
People hear one thing and spread it like crazy, and make videos. We've seen people try to copy our videos. We have no idea why. It's they learn something and think they are exports, but now they put out a video and they don't know what they are doing, how things work, and why something is better. Soap may solve the problem for some people, but we feel wax works better because it won't break down like soap, especially from moisture. Wax works amazing.
Those trucks should be fine. The wheel size and durometer is up to you. You could go bigger with the wheels. 59mm might be good for a little board. I road bigger back in the day on my cut out, but that's because cruiser wheels weren't really available in 59mm. Sounds like you're on the right track and going to have a pretty fun board. Check out the custom grip tape video we have so you can do some more personal touches to your deck.
There is nothing to worry about. Maybe you switched the trucks from front to back, or the deck is longer/shorter than before. You can follow the steps in the video and everything will be OK.
That's debatable. If you're at a low skill level it doesn't matter how the quality is, because any deck will work. You could ask the same kind of question for a bike. Do you want something to ride around town with friends, or do you need something that performs a certain way? I also don't know what type of longboard/downhill skating you do. Different shapes allow for various performance requirements.
You can! Some people use soap shavings and other stuff. But like he said, paraffin is the best and its not mixed with other waxes or chemicals. Its also a great skate wax and its almost always cheaper than some hunk of colored wax with a company logo pressed into it anyway
thanks alot you guys for the feedback. cant wait to finish this little project. thank you for the advice. you guys should do a cut out tut! would be cool to see one from you guys since you guys have tons of helpful tips!
I just used the red zero skull wax I had since I couldn't find any paraffin wax and not only did it help with the squeaks but it helped my trucks turn way better :D
This is normal. When you're not stranding on the board one truck might be leaning a little to one side lifting one wheel off the ground. This makes the trucks look like the are uneven. When you stand on the board everything is fine. Don't worry about this. It doesn't effect anything.
From my own experience i tried that trick! I put small chips of candle (so not exactly the stuff you recommand) as you did. It works really well for a while (couple of hours). But then the squeaky sound came back as i was skating. In my opinion, some trucks or bushings just do more squeaky sounds than others and you can only fix it temporarily. But good video though!
Awesome, thanks for the insight! I don't know if I'd be chastised for saying I used chapstick instead, but it works perfectly! It doesn't as if it'd mess anything up, but maybe one of you know!
It's just a suggestion. A skate shop might not give you stickers, but you can ask them. I'm sure they would be happy to give you stickers if you showed them the video on your phone and offered them the wax. It only helps them to become a better shop to know how to do tricks like this. Nearly every shop does not know this trick, if they do they use soap.
So I read a couple hundred of these comments and decided to do some research and do things a little differently. First I researched paraffin wax and found out it is a petroleum product. Next I researched the effect of petroleum on urethane and found an email from the company Energy Suspension stating petroleum is not harmful to urethane, only rubber. I decided not to go overboard on the paraffin wax even though my bushings had gotten wet and were making an extremely loud pop sound, and were also squeaking real loud. I applied the wax by rubbing it on the stem of my trucks, no slivers or packing wax in to the cup shaped bushing on the base-plate. For the actual bushings I read comments about them slipping with the wax, so I only applied it to one side of the bushings, the top of the top bushing, and the bottom of the bottom bushing. I have Bones bushings and I highly recommend spending the $10 for them. So on my Bones bushings I only applied the wax to the plastic side, not the urethane side. I used Swix ski wax, which is paraffin wax. Well it fixed my problem, thanks for the video guys.
Bought my board literally yesterday and today I had a ton of squeaking, watched this video and fixed it. That really shows how helpful this was

The bushings were making the noise. That's why when you tightened them it went away. You can put wax on the trucks and bushings to make the noise go away. It is normal for some new trucks to squeak.

Silicone grease on both sides of the pivot cup took all the squeak away, also on the bushings on the king pin at the truck. Work great!
Is this how it appears when you are not standing on your board or does this happen while you are riding?
That should not be from the wax at all. That's an issue with your bushings or trucks. What trucks do you have, and how tight are they?

This is normal. When you're not stranding on the board one truck might be leaning a little to one side lifting one wheel off the ground. This makes the trucks look like the are uneven. When you stand on the board everything is fine. Don't worry about this. It doesn't effect anything.
Ty for this, got my son his first 🛹 today and it makes noise. I didn't know what to do. Subscribed.
Try ivory soap that wat I used ice been skating mine 4weeks
Worked really well, I used some kind of wax meant for leather seats, but it works! Thank you sir!
Yes it can.
