i loved how the director framed every shot in a way that the architecture was prominent, making it feel like that the town was a character of its own.
Lol
The town is! I used to live there. The architecture is amazing!
I was on a road trip and decided to stop in Columbus because I had seen this film. As I was walking the alley between the library and the inn, I found an empty pack a of marlboros sitting right where Casey and Jin met :)
Yup, that's columbus for ya
Wow that’s crazyy
This looks amazing, Hollywood needs to give John Cho more chances, he is a rare talent, stop borrowing asian actors who doesn't fit in your movies, you got a good one right here
Stop putting asian actors in stereotypical roles because that shit gets old. John Cho has always been a standout actor on his own. He deserves so much more recognition.
Just watch 'Searching'
Agreed! He's fantastic in everything I see him in.
i don't know about that... the asian dude from The Hangover is cool.
@@sososohaunted isn't he the guy that was "Asian Jim" on an episode of "The Office"?
John Cho is a rare Asian leading man in mainstream cinema. And he barely gets lead roles. This looks hauntingly beautiful.
I agree, but couldn't they have cast a female opposite that's closer in age to him? Like he's 45, and she's 21.
Underrated Critic For once, that was fine. They were meant to be friends. This is my hometown and John Cho is extra handsome. I loved her, cuz I loved that library too. I was glad to move away from a really nice town. Much nicer than leaving a bad town.
@@underratedcritic1983 Cho's character is questioned about dating Haley's character in the movie and he points out that she's too young for him. They connect at an emotional and intellectual level but it's never meant to grow into a romantic relationship.
They cant put mixed race couples like asian and white together it is taboo, even in this day and age....these two elements cannot be mixed. it is too sensitive for western eyes.

This is one of those "out of this world" type of movies. Only few see life this way. Not saying its good or bad but only we understand. Notice how they are the only two shown in the trailer, and the emptiness around the buildings as if they are alone in the world. Something about that seems beautiful.
You know more movies like this?
Into The Wild and Cast Away
+Elly Check out It's Already Tomorrow In Hong Kong or One Day (with Anne Hathaway).
Beautifully said.
Watch The Hours (2002) :)
John Cho is so underrated. This guy have so much talent in him but yet to be use fully.
yeeeeeeeeessssss!!!
even in the harold&kumar movies, i always was drawn to watch him in every scene. instead of the ad nauseum use of pitt & cruise, id love to see cho in some starring movie roles.
It's the Milf guy.
John Cho is one of the most underrated and underused talents in Hollywood. He has so much range from comedy to drama. It may sound cliche but him being Asian is whats holding him back. Leading roles are rare for an Asian male. He deserves more than the sidekick or best friend or the token Asian guy.
To me, this movie is like those few times in life when, by chance, you sit down with a good friend and time seems to slow down. When you have deep, vulnerable, meaningful conversations with each other. You reveal things to each other and learn things about each other and about yourself that you didn't know before. And afterwards, you see each other and the things around you differently. That's essentially what Jin and Casey do in the movie. Except they do it over several days and in the midst of some beautiful and stirring architecture and sights. The movie makes you reflect on family, duty, finding your path in life. It accomplishes that beautifully in my opinion. It's not for people looking for action, passion, and an adrenaline rush.
100%
Then the rug gets pulled out from under you and you discover that other person was you the whole time.
This
Nicely worded
Just watched this film, I cannot believe this masterpiece has hid away from me for four years. This is not just a film, this is a piece of art. I think I found my new favorite film.
On Which platform is this movie available , can't find
@@shxnya_ I had to use fmovies or putlocker, can't find it anywhere else, may be on MUBI or Amazon Prime for a cost
If you have not see The Fountain i recommend it :) Its one of those movies that few can relate to or understand but its a masterpiece in my eyes.
I bet you would love the tree of life then
Same buddy, it's one of fav✌️
John Cho is good. John Cho is best.
Vincent Choi underrated....his better
Vincent Choi I think John Cho should get an award
So is Vincent Choi
This movie is so beautiful and poetic. The architecture blew me away and it frames the two characters and their story so effectively. I really want to visit Columbus now, even though I live in Australia. The architecture looks absolutely stunning!!
_watched this film at 2 am & cried like a baby after it was over. what an incredible work of art._
Why
Felt something can't explain when I watched it repeated it like 10 times and I can't figure out what is that feeling come from
The same
Think Bruh yea the music had a really great rule in the trailer
Post rock + dreamgaze fusion in the background with that perpetual orange haze of early Autumn. Is that it?
where did u watch it?
vestfoldify i mean the trailer not the whole movie
A whisper-soft piece of beauty, this movie. Broke my heart and made it whole again.
Well said
Living in this town is exactly how this movie describes it. Such a beautiful town that i’m proud to call my home.
Haley Lu Richardson has a bright future ahead of her. She has showed up in other movies and done quite well. Joh Cho looks superb here.
She needs to do more movies like this she's amazing
I didn't noticed her talent before watching this! It would be nice to see her doing more movies that can maximize her talent
I loved her in Five Feet Apart.
She was great in The Edge of Seventeen too.
I haven't seen this one yet.
I really enjoyed this movie as much as i enjoyed the Architecture featured. Two people with repulsing ideas on how they see life but brought together by space and time, figuratively. The heavy emotions of the two characters were complimented with astral musical scoring and the serenity of the linear structures. Every scene is breathe-taking, composition, cinematography and hues. There was such a nurturing balance of awe and sorrow.
I love these quiet, thoughtful independent films.
Can u suggest more like this please?
@@rk-ve6jy Lost in Translation, Burning, and Maria Full of Grace
The “than what?” hits so strong...I keep coming back to it
I rewatch just for that part
I don't know how it happened, I watched this movie randomly, with no expectations and now I think It's forever sewn in my heart.
This looks luminous....heart achingly beautiful.
I keep coming back to this trailer. It's so beautiful.
Same here.
I live in Columbus. I was working at the hospital when this movie was made. He was my favorite actor growing up. Was amazing experience to meet him
What's your favourite place in Columbus ?
@@desihaxor5690 there’s a secret spot in down town nobody knows about, I go there to sit and think
Right by the bk down the road from Lincoln rink
I think you're lucky, Columbus just looks so beautiful. 🤍🌿
Before this year comes to end I just want to say that this is the best movie I ever seen this 2017, there's no any movie like this one, really lovely, good performance of the characters as well as the movie itself... Atonished, highly recommend guys :)
I saw this movie last year, and I can't stop thinkin' about it.
I really loved this movie. Their relationship was so keenly realized, and both of the actors were perfectly cast - it felt very real.
Even how the film highlights the sounds of the crickets and trees when they're staring at the buildings; it's so observant, because those sounds are a big part of the experience of standing in front of a beautiful building or place.
Does anyone think they'll get together later on?
No
I love how this film feels like a beautiful video essay that has its own unique wavelength-and yet so accessible-.
It is a beautiful , warm and a poignant portrayal of subtle sadness of two very different type of people and how they try to close the Gap with such real conversation.
Well said, movie is a gem
the director kogonada is originally known for making analysis/ aesthetic video essays on films / tv series....this is a very smart observation
ya'll need to start listening to Hammock music. their scores have this luminous and hauntingly beautiful tone to them.. 'Mysterium' will make you feel like you've never felt before
This film is inspirational, warm, spiritual and intelligent. Simply human. And then with a serious underscore called Hammock music, which couldn't have been a more harmonious partnership. A silent feast celebrating humans.
He attaches to something that he always ran away from.
She embraces something that she was afraid of.
Columbus is a way to approach that transition in the 104 minutes just through the dialogues in the presence of modernist architecture.
As an Asian Male... FINALLY! A role with depth, nuance, character, feeling.
I keep coming back to this movie and this trailer to help me calm my mind. Never fails
Having been born and raised in Columbus this movie sure brought back a lot of memories growing up in this little town. It’s indeed a beautiful place I would recommend anyone visit. Be sure to stop downtown by the old ice cream parlor, Zaharakos for a treat.
Zaharakos is the best! Miss Columbus. Used to live and work there.
Hammock music is so peaceful.
The emptiness in this movie gives space to the emotions
Okay. My body and mind is so ready for this. Like my guy John Cho is in this. John cho.
This is the most beautiful movie I have seen in a while. I keep coming back to this movie like every month or so, it’s almost always in the back of my mind. It haunts me beautifully ❤❤
I just happened upon this film at the public library - the cover got me - and I was absolutely mesmerized by it. Had I watched this trailer first, I probably wouldn't have bothered. This just can't be encapsulated in two minutes. After I saw it, I read the ecstatic reviews and wondered how I possibly missed it. I love the movie, and highly recommend it - to patient audiences.
Direction and Cinematography are so amazing.
Did anyone notice the use of mirrors in 3/4 shots!? It was just wow!!
One of the category movie!
"This Is Not Enough" is my favorite song off of Mysterium. And I like John Cho. I should see this movie.
thanks man ...i was looking for the song info
Thanks for the song name! I really like this song
Absolutely bowled over by this gem of a movie! I think it's forever changed the way I look at architecture.
Same for me :')
This film was absolutely amazing.
I am from Columbus, Indiana. I ran for mayor of Columbus but lost years ago. I am looking forward to seeing this movie.
This made one million at the box office. That's so insanely low for the sheer brilliance of this movie.
Came here cause I absolutely love Hammock. I’m so gonna watch this movie
Same! I only know this movie exists because of Hammock. There are some greats tracks that they made for this movie that I listen to often, and I've never seen this movie. Hammock rules.
She got so beautiful. From Split to this, I'm in all of her beauty.
Yeah. What a bae.
The edge of 17 too
Anything john cho I'm down for. He will always be roldie thought
What's roldie thought?
sowhat she’s referring to his character “Harold” from the Harold and Kumar series ❤️
This film is very special for me. I don't know why but everytime i watch this i cry. I love this feeling inspite of sadness
The Fountain did that for me too 😭😇
This is such a beautiful movie and Hammock really nailed it with the music once again!
Absolutely bowled over by this gem of a movie! I think it's forever changed the way I look at architecture.
On one hand it's this tender, tranquil, feel-good watch for a lazy Sunday afternoon. On the other it's an inspirational aesthetic delight for all of us photographers/designers/artists/film-makers/cinematographers out there.
While watchng this movie, there's this captivating feeling of peace, being settled, bringing everthing to a slow rhythm. This does'not happpen everyday.
I will watch literally anything with John Cho in it
It's so weird seeing a movie on where you're from. I grew up in Columbus, my whole life. I know where every bit of this movie was filmed. I still go to Columbus on the daily, I just live 20 minutes away now. I'm so happy the film industry has finally shown the gem Columbus some love for once.💖
I have lived in Columbus for 3 years now and am just now hearing about this movie. John Cho is a reason to watch it but its weird seeing things in a movie that I see around town.
Ikr I live in Columbus and seeing this feels weird, almost like it isn't real
I lived in the Columbus area and worked there for about 5 years a few years back. So cool to see it highlighted in this movie!
I want to visit every spot featured in this film. It feels like re-visiting my hometown even though I've never been to Columbus.
This film was amazing. It’s so unique
Haven't watched this yet but I know it's going to hit me right in the feels.
How was it?
Hope this comes to netflix. I'm a fan of John Cho's work.
This movie with be nothing without the sound scape provided by Hammock. True musical genius.
Yep I still listen to Hammock score
I love John Cho.
Just watched it. This was a really good movie.
Hammock is just pure gold
Best film of the year.
It felt like meditation.
The only time I've ever been proud to live in Columbus, Indiana 😂

Very cool.
"Columbus is the architectural mecca of the planet "......Metropolis Magazine.
Its Golden same😂
Its Golden Really? Because this movie made me want to drive 600+ miles to visit Columbus, IN... Should I change my plans ?
Quite possibly the perfect film. It was like a moving painting - a work of art.
I have grown up in Columbus and the way everything was filmed made Cbus look beautiful.
This is a great movie, especially if you are from the great state of Indiana and have made the pilgrimage to Columbus to see the architecture.
Song is from Hammocks new album coming out in August. Don't know the song name,
deserves oscar nod for best actress, director, actor, cinematography, writing original material- this years moonlight- what an amazing film. america’s hirokazu koreeda- one of the best american films this decade

Columbus will forever be my home. Even though I no longer live there.
DP Elisha Christian beautifully captured my hometown. Thanks!
Beautifully shot film, great acting. The kind of film that inspires repeated viewing. Kogonada is a talent.
John Cho is awesome
I live in Columbus Indiana and I just now found out they made a movie about it.
luv it...awesome serenity and connection in that couple, nice dialogues...
I came here to drop a like and inform everyone that this one is really, "Really" good. Both Haley Lu and John Cho did a really good job here.
this is a really beautifully made trailer
Hammock's music is amazing.
One of the great indie films of the last decade. A true revelation.
Watched this the other day. It surprised me in a good way. Very good movie.
I'm a simple person!I see John Cho I watch💕💕💕💕💕
This is not enough ~
Hammock forever ❤️
This looks very nice
This movie seems outstanding, I can't wait to watch it.
How was it? :D
The film is beautifully shot. Throughout a lot of the scenes i felt like i was looking at photographs. As far as the storyline goes, i'd say a mildly good one. It brings the viewer a little introspective thinking about walks of life here and there throughout the movie, but nothing too enlightning/emotional. People blew that part outta proportion here in the comment section, in my opinion...
This movie is so peaceful, but I was shocked ...since it is soooooo amazing and beautiful ..
give these two Oscar nominations!
I watched this film at the cinema in Columbus, IN. Something about that felt cool :)
Some of us stay back and other travels around in life. Its not about making a grand life in the spotlight. Its about feeling that you are doing it right in this life. I had a rather hard life for many years with a lovely wife who was sick and finally passed away one day when i hold her close to me with my tears flowing down on her face.I would do it all over again if i could. I loved and love this babe of mine, in this life and the next. I tried to ease the pain by traveling and went to Japan and USA to see some of the world. It didnt help my pain and thoughts but it felt better when i got home again. Strange !?. Think i should take a look at this one.
I have been dying to watch this movie, let alone listen to the soundtrack (done by my favorite band, Hammock). I've gone through their albums many times, yet the soundtrack for this film is one I've been putting aside until I watch it.
The music was so good
That's what love does to you. It makes you question... everything.
Confort movie. A poem for the eyes
Anyone who enjoys the backing track here should check out Hammock, who did the soundtrack and have been doing dreamscapes like this for over a decade.
she is beautiful
Just watched the movie, it's so amazing!!
Hi,
Just wondering where did you see it?
Hey, I watched it at O Cinema in Miami Beach. It's a theater that shows independent films! :)
John Cho was about to be Jim in the Office. Wow!!!!
Looks like a beautiful film with amazing actors. I'm there
I desperately want a Criterion release of this film.
oldmoviemusic
This film screams Criterion. I’d be surprised if they didn’t.
This movie is beautiful. Really zen
I'm excited for see this since I'm from Columbus, Indiana. Out of all the places and cities in the world they had to pick Columbus!? But fr it's so cool to think about how that was apart of my daily life. Like walking those allies everyday to get to school. It's amazing
I would like to visit it sometime
