- From the base V-6 to the top of the line V-8 SS, we test Chevy's hotly-anticipated Camaro and find out if it has was it takes to destroy Ford's muscle car benchmark, the Mustang.

I remember when they first came out, saw it in Transformers but what really made me want one was the day some guy in a 2010 SS downshifted and chirped the tires at 45ish passing my aunt's truck. Had already been reading about it in car magazines and it was my dream car since. Finally bought an SS this year.

I just bought one last month best & most fun i had in a while 2010 2ss i had a slk 55 amg was a little more fun but nothing beats this american muscle feel
I took a ride in my friends new RS SS, what a great car. Chevy did a great job on the interior and retro look of bringing back a modern classic.
Props to GM for making these cars so good. The fact they're selling so well is a testament to how good a job they did. I'm not even a Chevy guy, but this made Ford step up their game, and Mopar has improvements in the works for the Challenger as well. Everytime one of the three ups the anty the other two have to follow suit.
Really cool to come back to this video now in 2022. I bought a 2014 2SS/RS in 2019 which was lost in an accident due to a drunk driver, and now just picked up a 2011 2SS/RS this year. I remember going to Disney world in 2011 ish, the speed track rollercoaster ride was sponsored by Chevrolet at the time. During the ride it took you outside for a brief time and on the ground there was 2011 Camaro SS's lined up nose to nose in all different colors and stripes. I've wanted one since..if you can pick up a used 2010-2015 SS, Do it!!
Wish they would bring Firebirds back.
I just picked up a 2011 rs ss 2 and I absolutely love it.
i test drove this car a month ago. it was so fun. when i was done and brought it back to the dealer, you could smell burnt rubber. the v6 i drove was so fast, it had fuckin bangin acceleration
Listen to that growl of the V8 SS model. Damn, I have to get me one of those.

@red7188 there is a few differences like the heads up display, and other cosmetic non-performance things.
I have watched the "Extreme Factories" episode of the new Camaro. I have always been a fan of all American muscle, The precision that the new Muscle cars go through to become a finished product are just as critical as any of the most expensive production cars on the market. The specs required in every facet of the production process is so precise and critical, you are vertually guaranteed a decent car. The only difference is material quality in the cockpit and the hand-built engines.
Yes, if you're talking about hub dyno/wheel dyno's it's because an auto doesn't put the power down as directly. I would never bother driving an auto but it is usually a bit faster.

We have decided on orange and we are either buying one at a nearby dealership (orange ss/rs with orange leather interior, sunroof) or we are ordering one. I'm I'm a dudette :) Right now, I'm driving a 2007 Dodge Charger R/T which I love. I've owned 2 Camaros and 1 Firebird before. I've always loved the Camaro the most. Can't wait!!
@quietfamily With the help of a crew of Australian engineers. If ever you get the chance, look under one of these Camaros, then look under a Pontiac G8. The G8 is a restyled Holden Commodore, GM's family car in Australia. The Camaro uses a shortened floorpan from a G8, the Zeta platform Holden was asked to design.

6-way adjustable. You'll have no problem... First impression when you get in is that you're not gonna be able to see out, but once you're on the road, the visibility is just fine. Plus, the 6-ways will accommodate any height....
yeah, this car looks great, first saw it in Transformers and I loved it, looks like there will be some new competition with the Ford Mustang, even though I still love the Mustang too!!

@Mach1club i actually like the new body style. It sure as hell looks better than the previous gen. I think the GTO guys got the short end of the stick when it comes to asthetics.

@Marshmallowrex They build them in North America, and they were designed by Holden, the Australian wing of GM. They have about as much in common with Rice burners as AC/DC fans would with the opera
Last, Modern Elises feel like they could be taken to a track and abused without falling to bits, but then there's not that much inside to break. Don't be worried if the aluminium tub creaks and rattles a bit - there's little sound deadening and most of the interior is bare metal. The pop-in-pop-out roof bars sometimes have dodgy seals too - but that's not a big worry. Taken straight from topgear themselves.

i cant wait to see the comparison against the SS vs. the 2011 GT and im sure they'll throw in the R/T Challenger as well, that will be a good one for sure :)

Camaros are the best car ever. i get so excited every time i see one on the streets or at a dealer.
The 06 concept was.Its called a Zeta platform.Its just a layout for chevy.
don't know if it's true but that's the same reason i've heard about discontinuing the fiero. a kickass little mid engine pontiac that out performed the vette at a fraction of the cost.
wow and i thought i could only accept a v8 camaro, 6 seconds is not that bad after all. By the way that was one of the best reviews of the camaro iv'e see.

i was referring to someone who made the argument that the silverado and sierra were the same thing. in fact, they pretty much are, just minor differences in trim and exterior styling. but they are virtually the same truck. btw, i didnt start the truck discussion.

I agree 100%. While there are waiting lists for new Camaro's, there are Corvettes sitting on the lot. Right now you can probably get a steal on a new Corvette, which out performs any other American sports car hands down. The new 'vette grand touring looks nice too.

@SweetCash33 just because the grille's made of a cheaper material doesn't at all mean that the actual vehicle is bad. Perhaps the reason the grille and some of the other materials are cheeper is to keep the price of the car lower. It's not a bentley, it's a ford. It's supposed to be affordable and decent quality
I got to ride in a 2011 Camaro on January 26, 2012... first one of the new Camaros I've ridden in... needless to say, darn nice car, I felt so swaggin in it! I'm 19 by the way.

Yes its true. Thats also why they discontinued the Grand Nationals at 87, they were also able to outperform Vettes. Then you got the GMC Syclone/Typhoons, they were too discontinued for the same reason, matter of fact, i heard the engineers and disigners that blueprinted the Syclone/Typhoon were fired for this reason.
@ThunderChicken12 Because it's only a little over a second slower, gets 29mpg, and costs almost $10,000 less.

@TeadTheBag yea i read about how gm bumped up the hp rating by about 10 horses and when asked about it they had nothing more to show for it than a sae certification so like i said its unchanged other than on paper
they should make an awd model for better traction while accelerating and on corners.

well, when i went to the camaro website and clicked "start the experience and then "build your own," the highest price i could get from it was about 46K. i guess that would be msrp and not necessarily what you'd pay at the dealer.

Nice report here. We just rented the 2010 Camaro for a Portland Oregon to Pacific Coast drive yesterday. Even the low end V-6 screams with break-neck acceleration, especially when the manual shifting is selected. Every time we parked, necks turned to compliment the car and Wow over it. *Whats with the rediculous Ford vs Chevy war talk here? @brent66robbins with a 4.5 0-60 and 13 flat 1/4 mile at 29,000. They'll either decrease the weight or add more power. I'm sorry in either case you are looking at a 32,000 price tag for the base model SS. High 36s or low 35s for the 2SS

True! I just sold my 89 S-10 Blazer and it had 199,000 miles on it. I could step on the gas and it would squel tires in second gear. Even though I drive a civic now I still love my american muscle and I will have the new camaro soon!
@Frank289100 I'm not for sure, but I don't think ford or shelby actually designed that engine though. I think the design actually came from Chrysler, they also made a dohc version. The engine was put in a few production cars to meet the quota in order to race it. A very awesome engine.

@spaggioracing I think the point of this post should be that what european and japanese cars do with a 4-banger it takes an american car a v-8 to do. Engine efficiency

I may not have the opportunity to buy a new one, but still it opens up for a possibility to easier find a second hand one .
Nevertheless, i have to say : THANK YOU CHEVROLET ! (for bringing some real nice cardesigns to europe )
The only cars we see here are shoeboxes in grey/white or black...now just hoping other brands will soon follow for bringing us some american muscle !

I am Dutch and usually prefer European sports cars. But lately, the US have been making some really nice cars, and this Camaro is just gorgeous. Nice engines too. I hope it handles better than American cars often do.

@cultdriver44 If they learn a little more from Holden, they will get it together. The G8, GTO, "2011 police Caprice" and the Camaro were all designed and built in Australia. Although the latter comes from a north American production line, all the prototypes were built here
