As someone who installed medical imaging equipment for 30 years we called power day, ground hog day. If you see your shadow you are there for six more weeks. You guys do awesome work.
Mom is getting more screen time and really has developed into one of the on-screen characters: she seems to really follow the tech details and knows as much of what is going on as anyone else -- give her an electrician cart and tools too
Matt: "So the reason that we need this cab to come off so easily is there is no way for me to grease and maintain the front drive shaft. So.. we're not going to maintain the front drive shaft BUT I would like to replace it when it fails." This comment brought me such a smile and chuckle LOL! Fantastic work on this wiring job Chad's Fab crew.
Chad! Your wife is always smiling and I see her influence on you and the boys. This is the energy of the day and what most of us subconsciously need. I also look forward to your inspirational quotes at the end of the episodes. Thank you Chad and family!!
Trouble shooting electrical problems is so much fun. Years ago I was a electronics tech in the Air Force. I spent a month TDY at McGuire AFB re-wiring a Large Board Projector that had a fire.
I have the upmost respect for people who can do this type of work! It does take a special person to do it! Not me, I don't have the patience to do that!! Keep up the great work!
The control box needs to look roughly like the topdown view of the wrecker with the switches situated in the approximate location and direction of the winch, much easier to find while doing complex winching
Yeah, I thought that too. It was just bodged together by the people of Harbor Freight though. If I were there (or had one of those winches) I'd offer to make an actual all in one unit, or maybe an app for their phones, or both.
The control panel in the truck is set up to correspond with the location on the truck. The handheld controller is labelled and will be easy enough to adapt to. I just don't like that you can't run more than one winch at a time with it.
Your patience and lack of a temper when those very irritating little mistakes happen are schooling me Chad !!! Hope that job makes the mortgage payment cause you deserve it.
As an auto electrician for over 25 yrs this has seriously impressed me. As a complete loom build job to a mad working vehicle . Not an easy job but you and your boys made it look easy. Great work .
What a shame that no matter how many people will see the finished item that is the WGOW, no one will be saying, "Dudes, the wiring is SICK in this build!" Chad's Fab, the unsung hero's of this project - We say, you guys deserve a special plaque onboard somewhere to remind everyone the Wrecker ain't jack, if it don't run nor it's steering nor winches work!
"no one will be saying, "Dudes, the wiring is SICK in this build!"" As is the case for a lot of behind-the-scenes folks in about any job around the world. Lots of unsung heroes everywhere (unfortunately).
Early on when Matt first started the build, I suggested using Size 4DLT heavy duty batteries, and with 7 winches, it is almost an absolute need for this type of high capacity battery, and reserve capacity on this battery is 240 min. You, and Dusty do Excellent work, and when it is totally finished, Matt's wrecker is going to be an Awesome vehicle
Wow, what an amazing display of patience and determination. I admire how when there’s a problem it’s instantly tracked down with the process of elimination until it’s found and corrected. Tedious work completed with patience, knowledge and experience. You guys are truly great and are remarkable to watch.
Chad & Team great work! Hard to watch as you realize how fragile the truck gets with all that complexity. Hopefully it will be reliable. Great to see you and your wife work together.
Been into giant RC models for decades and anytime you finally get to powering it up and being able to operate it successfully from the transmitter we say (quite loudly) ITs Alive!!!!!!
Electrical problems are the most frustrating. One wrong wire can create many other problems. Worst case, melted wires and blown components. You guys are the best.
Chad, when I was working with those Deustch connectors sometimes the factory insertion/removal tool didn't always work correctly. What we did instead was make up our own removal tool from an 8p nail. We sanded down the tip of the nail until it would go inside of the connector and then a sharp tap with a hammer and the wire would come out unscathed. We used this on 22AWG so you will need to adjust sizing for 18 or 16 AWG wire. If you ever need a removal tool and don't have one handy... Oh, and by the way 2.0 readers are just fine. I use 2.25's or sometimes 2.50's. Take care!
I sent Paul and Matt email awhile ago (before Matt got his controller from Badlands) and suggested they use a wireless crane controller for the winches. By connecting the hardwired winch controls to the crane controller there would only be 1 wireless signal to deal with. I thought it would at least be worth a look. For Paul, he would also need electric actuated solenoids to make his work.
Agreed. The Harbor Freight solution is super hacky. The RF signals are interfering with each other. They're not designed to be operated simultaneously like that. I understand the HF sponsorship, but the control solution just isn't right for this application.
Reminds me of my old car stereo days in the late 80s through the 90s. Made great money installing anything 12 volt. Worked a lot with Rockford Fosgate, Phoenix Gold, they were all built here in the USA. Massive alarm systems, we had heat shrink on 500 ft rolls. It was a great time, massive relay wiring for auto start before there was a module for that.
Beautiful work! Amazing how much wiring goes into any automobile then the wrecker adds with winches, lights, welder, air compressor, and so on. Thanks for showing how it is done.
@@lanceleavitt7472haha nice one. Anyone I know that is a beer drinker never gets anything done they spend their evenings and weekends drunk. Their trucks are usually dirty and dinged up
@@lanceleavitt7472 Lance, I found that during my drinking days, a few beers, and I do mean just 2 or 3, could motivate me to get to work on something. I believe it was something about the sugar in the alcohol turning to instant energy. I don't remember wiring anything after having 9 or so beers, but if the magic smoke came out later, I wouldn't be too surprised. 🙂
Someone's editing skill are next level!
Great job Chad and crew. Electrical skills are something that I respect.

🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤣
Dang…surprised Matt has not fired them yet.
Chad getting old is a badge of honor. God bless
I'm good with getting old, just don't want my eyes to 😉

Chad and Dusty are ridiculously skilled.
Just so darn impressed with the expertise, tenacity and patience shown by this whole crew. Well done!

Great respect for those who hook up electrical from scratch. Better put a comfy seat in for Chad to ride along.
Wiring is an art by itself

Chad y'all all so amazing
It is a joy to watch Chad & wife and Dusty work and video. I like that they don’t get panicky on screen. Good job!

Shouldn't be that complicated to rebuild the controller to do that.
It's a work in progress! I'm sure there will be some changes before it's finished.

I find that if you dip the wire and the pin in rubbing alcohol it’ll slide through the back of the connector easily.
I made many a multi-wire connector wiring loom while working in the shipyard. Alcohol is really your friend putting these type of connectors together.
