- In this clip from the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider to analyze the receivers' performance at OTAs. Why does George Pickens seem to be showing more maturity as he assumes the No. 1 role with Diontae Johnson's departure? How is new receivers coach Zach Azzanni pushing Pickens to be better in offseason workouts? And how are names like Roman Wilson, Quez Watkins, Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller looking in their respective pushes for the No. 2 WR role? Our duo tackles those topics and more.

People keep talking about Roman Wilson's size, but lest we forget:
Antonio Brown/Roman Wilson:
Height: 5' 10"/5' 11"
Weight: 185/192
40 Time: 4.47 seconds/4.39 seconds
What am I saying? I'm saying that on paper Roman is a better version of the greatest WR in Steelers history. Doesn't mean he's definitely going to be better (odds are he won't be), but it does mean that looking to his measurables as some sort of disqualifier makes little sense. It probably helps too that Roman is a similar style receiver as well in that he runs good routes and makes circus catches. Guess we'll just have to wait and see, but I'm going on record that I believe by the end of this coming season Roman will have cemented himself as the Steelers top receiving threat.
Thanks for that comparison. I’ve grown a bit tired of hearing how the WR room needs help.
Do you know how many receivers come into the league every year that have very similar height/weight/and 40 time. 9:13 That is the most ridiculous comparison I've ever heard. I think he can be a great player but your comparison is asinine.
@@anthonyherrmann860 The whole point of my comment really wasn't the comparison it was the fact that writing dude off because of his size is a mistake (I called myself explicating this pretty clearly). Feel free to disagree if you'd like though.
I love these shorter videos I think you guys should continue to do them throughout the year
What's up Chris what's up Brian. Lets go black ⚫️ and gold ✨️ 💛
I think we’ll be fine. GP will be our #1 receiver our TE will be our 2nd option and guys like Roman Wilson Calvin Austin Quelz Watkins and Scotty Miller will be one on one with the speed to take the top off
I say let's roll with the receiver core, we may have extra money today but I'm thinking about tomorrow and we have the most expensive D, if we want to improve the offense while keeping a defense we are gonna need some cheddar and some luck
They definitely need to add a one or two receiver. To easy to defend just pickens. Patt isn't scaring anyone he could have a good year. Still won't make up for not having a number two/one.
What will the o look like when they double GP and stack the box to stop the run?
Exactly what our new OC offense exploits
That should open up the middle of the field for pat friermuth who will probably be our actual #2 receiving threat. Our version of kelce/kittle/mark Andrews
Scotty Miller, Van Jefferson, Wilson can play #2 Pickens can be our Michael Thomas 😀 147 catches for 1,400 yards. Steelers development of WR is topnotch
All we want in pitt is volunteers thatz it simple 💯
It's a great motto, probably the best inspirational poster of all time no joke in any situation
@@madmartigan8119 simple saying yet so bodley True 👍
All you need is players who can get open catch the ball and get YAC to keep the chains moving. Maybe we all need to stop overthinking this game.
You forgot blocking
We need to help our QB
Wdym, the OL has improved a lot from the draft.
Why these RBS and No WRs what’s going on
Why we not getting no WRs Jennings 49er is available and Sutton.
I don't mind if a WR is constantly yelling "Give me the ball"...that's fine, but when they are jealous of other team members getting the ball more than them...THAT is NOT cool. I don't care how "talented" you are.
Is GP really like that? I'm not sure, but if it ends up that he is like that...trade'im and wave good-bye. We need team players and leaders, not whinny jags.
I believe mims will suprse alot of people this yr he and Wilson maybe watkins calvin Austin we will see !!!!
I understand the criticism but we have to be fair when we assess a player. Don’t act like the Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff was all that great either last year. Coaching has a lot to do with a players development and lack of. Just remember they get a paycheck as well and we’re not even going to talk about our offensive coordinator. So with everything considered let’s judge things equally.
Chris, you mis-spoke....You mean GP won't have Kenny Pickett holding him back this season. I know you love Kenny but don't get it twisted. Canada wasn't throwing the ball.
The Great Khan screwed up in not getting a WR
Y'all Need to get up off of this overly dramatizing GP's Emotional displays... .Like have y'all Not ever Really watched Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Ocho Cinco,AB ECT??? Like All of them was Great on the Field No doubt. But when Looking through that Diva lenses- Were definitely far Worse than GP. These players are not Robots - And When you have a Player that is Truly putting in The work, and who are giving Their All, there are just certain things, that not only should be UNDERSTANDABLE,But even Expected.
Brian Batko really sucks
I love football 🏈 but the NFL is a bad business
Find some real content please…. George has done an amazing job so far and in my view does not have to prove one thing.
"He doesn't take Mediocrity?" He's not going to like MT at all.
That hate gonna come back at ya bro, stop hating

Find a better coach...??? I'll wait????
@@raychondrichardson7846. Hell I can do better than that fraud
@@JohnLVroman truth hurts. No playoff wins in 7 years. Any white coach would be fired by now.
Gp is not a #1...!!! He's awesome #2..his dad was a #2...he's a #2
If Wandale Robinson can be a weapon for the Giants then Calvin Austin can most certainly be the same for the Steelers. Calvin Austin is just a more explosive and talented version of Robinson. Go look at Austin’s senior year at Memphis. He was beating future NFL star CB’s like Marcus Jones and Sauce Gardner, from multiple alignments. Because have a bright and innovative OC, I’m not concerned whatsoever about if Austin is going to be a contributor or not. On one hand I do think the Steelers WR situation is being drastically over exaggerated- Smith uses a lot of multiple TE packages, talent at TE, and a lot of really good teams in the league have equivalent or arguably less talent than the Steelers(Packers, Lions, Chargers, Ravens, Bills, Jags). On the other hand adding someone with playoff experience who could, at the very least, be a very reliable possession receiver, would give their offense a different skill set they currently don’t have (outside of GP). The more I think about it, the more I love the idea of putting Jauan Jennings in this offense. He’s a perfect fit. He has excellent ball skills, very dependable pass catcher, very good route runner and can line up anywhere. The dude is clutch as hell, very physical and a good blocker. The 49ers have so many young WR’s and Pearsall is more than capable and talented enough to fill Jenning’s role in that offense. By all accounts Jennings is a very high character guy, the type anyone would welcome into their franchise. He’s the homegrown talent of a championship organization, cares more about winning than stat padding. I also think there’s a lot of untapped potential he could unlock in a larger role. GP, Jennings, Wilson and Austin is a young but very talented and diverse skill set of weapons they could easily keep together for the next 3-5 years.
Chris George is ur number one guy are u serious bro !!
