I've recently gone to Thailand and my wife is from there too. For you all to know $1 USD = 37 Baht. So for USD conversion, $75,000 baht divided by 37 is $2027 USD a month and $40,000 baht equals $1081 USD a month. I can attest that the USD goes a long way, and 40,000 baht a month is a really good salary in Bangkok. If you make 40k USD a year in the USA you could live like a king in Thailand. A typical meal here in the US is around $50 to $100, in Thailand that same meal is about $4-6 USD for comparison.

In my opinion you are giving a realistic figure. There is no limit one can spend. However, based on my limited experience of being in Thailand, I think in 60-75K per month, one can lead a decent lifestyle.
Being retired in Thailand I can tell you that thai people are just like any other people there are good and bad. there is nothing about being in Thailand that makes you warm and friendly, just like there is nothing that makes them evil. Simply put they are people and with people you get a bit of everything. I could spend an hour telling you all the great experiences i have had in Thailand, just like I could take an hour telling you horror stories about the corruption and scams I have seen.
To get a retirement visa for a foreigner to stay in Thailand, you need to have 65,000 baht a month income or 800,000 baht in the bank. 65,000 baht is about $1,870 US dollars. 22,900 US dollars is about 800,000 baht.
Well if you work with an agent, there are ways around it….if you aren’t a partier 50K baht and you’re living pretty good. Bump it up to $80K if you are a partier
Ok, I lived in BKK for some time then I realized that I could live in the North Chiang Rai for a fraction of the cost. I went from a 1 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house and it saved me enough money that I can Fly to BKK and back every weekend and still have a few Baht for a few meals. It's only a HR and 10 minute flight and sometimes from Suk 22 to the airport was a longer drive then the flight. Here you need 40k to do as you please in BKK then you need 100k a month and going further down to the Islands it's more than that. I enjoy the simple life and traveling and living in CR I can do more on a lot less. Live where you feel comfortable and Happiness is the Key.
@@johndoe3960 Hey, Everyone is different and I happen to enjoy living here because I wanted to get away from Westerners. I made enough by 45 dealing with people that I enjoy the laid back atmosphere. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your time here and I have to say that I enjoyed the pre COVID BS times and went out more but if you live here there's a lot to do. It's definitely a slower pace of life and I find the people to be very friendly unless they don't understand or speak English and would rather ignore you then losing face because they can't talk with you. Also I found that Northern Thai is different than BKK Thai and if you don't speak Thai then that could be your problem to. I choose to live here so I can spend more money on travel and I enjoy seeing New places and I live on a fixed income because I still have another 13 to 15 years and never want to worry about money again but still be able to do as much as I can with the time I have left. Again, Sorry about your experience.
My American husband made 100,000 +++ a month, we live comfy here in Isaan area. We do not have to work. Some of our friends here make 40,000 - 50,000 baht per month , they seem to live comfy here, too.

I'm telling you it won't be to long before some high tech AI will provide that girl friend experience.
I'm currently in Thailand for the first time and I must say that I was not ready for the money exchange lol. My US dollars go really far here. I'm definitely coming back and I think I'll stay at least a month or two.
@beaulong I got a round trip ticket because I planned to go home. Who are you referring to? You mean did he airline employees check for the ticket? I'm not sure.
Even for a foreigner, 100,000 baht is more than enough to live comfortably in any part of thailand. Of course, your not by any means wealthy. If your eating out with a guest every day, that can be up to 50,000 per month, easily. A small place in a nice apartment is about 15,000. Then there is entertainment, transportation (round trip flights in and around thailand range 2k to 6k), house keeper(aka your girl friend, about 15,000), emergency fund, and etc. If you have a retirement nest egg of about 1.5 milliion USD and you keep it in the S&P 500. You can be conservative and withdraw about 3% or about 3,750 USD (130,000baht) per month. If you're frugal like me, you can do it with a quarter of the that.
@@robertphan8751 All of your math is correct you just need the actual interest and tax rates to get your exact numbers. In addition depending on what type of estate you want to leave behind you can start drawing from the principle at some point. 5K USD/month in Thailand is a very comfortable lifestyle. Personally being a non drinker and a bit on the stingy side I don't even spend 2K USD/month. Actually owning my house already and not having any debt my monthly maintenance expenses are about 1000 USD/month and that includes going out for dinner once a week and every new movie that is interesting(not much lately lol) . When I start traveling or we have guests from abroad that 1K/month is unrealistic. When traveling domestically I'm usually about $100usd per day for food/fuel/accommodations and that is because i'm cheap.
This was a super interesting video. In my opinion I think if you are making over 100,000 baht per month you are doing pretty good in Thailand. I know a lot of people in Thailand who have been pretty honest about their income. The majority of Thai people make between 10,000-50,000 baht per month. Some foreigners that I have met have made from a low of 30,000 baht to a high of 300,000 baht per month. When you are getting in to the higher range of those numbers, most of them are business owners.
@@sumireravenclaw8034 3k USD/month after taxes really isn't that much for a single income. Thats about 60k-65k$ USD a year. Thats not enough to afford a home (buy) in most major cities in the US. (if you live in rural or backwarter shit holes, thats good money, but only in them places) Yes I know there are alot of American who make less than that, but no one would consider them "rich" or "living it up". If anything they would be consider "enough to live".
3k$ a month you can live in US lol. Not the biggest cities of course. I was making 3k in LA, was paying 1000 in rent. 3k a month in Thailand you should be living good, if not , it's pretty strange 😆
@@davidkellyjr2092 $65K / year in the US is a decent salary in the US. Affords you way more than "rural or backwater shit". You can live comfortably in big cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Austin, Miami, etc. Like you said, you may not be able to comfortably BUY a house, but you can definitely rent and live good in those cities with that salary. It's not just good money in shitty places. And it is higher than the median salary in the US, so that's a ridiculous statement.
It always depends on your style of living and vacation is not normal living. My last trip to Thailand was an experiment for me to see what it would be like to live there. I love Thai food, so that aspect was ridiculously inexpensive. I also dont drink or party, which for some is a huge expense. My biggest expense was accomodations but i stayed at a beautiful resort that was about $35 per night. For 1 month i spent about $2500 and i was busy doing things daily.
@johnnybravo9990 Its all about lifestyle. I spent $5000 my first time in Thailand/pattaya for a 3 week holiday. That was about 20 years ago, 2 bar girls a day, viagra on tap, alcohol, western food, excursions. Had an awesome time and look back at what a different person I was back then. Now, I prefer a nice thai meal, a walk and bedtime by 9pm 😁
@@keithd1219 you mentioned you were busy doing things, I don't like to drink or party as well. I was mainly barfining girls from agogo. What made you busy
@johnnybravo9990 It depends where you're at but since I'm guessing you were in pattaya, I would go to koh larn for the day and rent a scooter on the island, I'd walk on the beach boardwalk fron one end to the other in the evening and check out the freelancers in the process, I'd go to central festival or terminal 21 and eat a nice thai lunch in their food court, I'd do an excursion to nong nooch gardens, the tiger zoo, ride a scooter over to the sanctuary of truth, gocarting, atv'ing, walk in various areas around pattaya away from the usual heavily tourist areas like pratumnak Hill, the east side, naklua. Those are some things off the top of my head.
He should have broken down money difference from what ladies recommended at the end. Like a overview on the recommendations 🤨 But, it was good information on possible cost of living differences. Enjoyed 👍
The most expensive is the accommodation. Renting is from 15,000 to 25,000 THB per month. After this comes food and going out. I think you need at least 50,000 thb per month to live a relaxed life in Pattaya area (and Pattaya is not expensive like BKK and Phuket). But ok 50,000 is also cheap compared to Europe and the US. Its better to go on holiday in Thailand than staying there permanent which probably will get boring ..
50K in Thailand is not anything I can live on there-it is all relative. If youa re a kid with low standards sure, but not for any discriminating adult coming from a nice western lifestyle. I can piss that money away in less than a week and that is not one THB on a girl-it is all what one is accustomed to. I like Meridian hotel, Concord Swiss, ,always Pullman, top hotels, flights, again it's all relative.
Yes. It’s just what I have got told by people who have stayed there for more than 3 weeks. They say there is nothing to do but go to the pool, go out and eat, go to a bar, fighting through all the sells people and bad infrastructure on the road. The same every day. After 1 month it get boring.
@@surfermike2 Anything you can do back home you can do in Thailand...even more actually...You aren't able to do things like going to see professional fights every day back home as an example. But movies, parks, malls, plays, amusements parks etc...just normal things we do in regular life.... They're all available. ..Saying you'll get bored living in Thailand is like saying you'll get bored in your home nation....
The lowest form of "rich" is being able to do whatever you wish short of the expense of high luxury goods such as a 2 million dollar yacht that costs another 2 mil/decade to maintain. Low rich means that you never need to work again, and you can do almost whatever you want within reason with no fear of ever going bust. In US money, this amount would be a nest egg of about 50x your annual liabilities at age 60 increased by about 3% more for every year younger you are. Adjust for the cost of living difference between Thailand and the US, and now you know if you have enough to be low rich in Thailand. Note, that 50x is actually twice the value you need to retire based on the 4% rule, so you could probably live in Thailand never working again on 25x, but you may need to keep at least some reasonable budget considerations in mind.
You’re assuming people MUST live out of savings. At 39, I am retired, with no need to work ever again. I do not have 50x my liabilities in savings nor do I need it to maintain my lifestyle.
Just for reference, dinner at the sofitel rooftop (mentioned in video) with an entree, main, dessert and two Singhas every night would be 60k฿/month by itself (for yourself). 100k a month is pretty rich, but there's levels to it, and you'll need more than that to do 'whatever you want'. Good video.
Good interview. Very informative for people interested in possibly moving there and a good question to get different range of opinions from local Thai people
My net (after taxes) monthly salary in USD comes to 185K THB a month before bonuses but when I vacation with my wife and child in Thailand I tend to be as frugal as possible lol… I’m always looking for bargains! The only time I will splurge is when we eat out or when we travel by plane.
Living costs in US are getting insane if you live in big city you better make like $70 an hour lol in small town like 45 min away from city I did ok on $35 an hour.
In Chiang Mai, the average salary should be about 8 to 12k Thai baht? If you are living alone, I think around 20k - 30k baht will be enough to live comfortably without considering other factor like (Housing, Utilities, Bill & other debt) in Chiang Mai. I tried spending 60k within 10 days by going to high end massage, eating spree and buying many unnecessary things but I am still left with 30k++ by end of the 10 days.
Considering taking my retirement funds to Thailand, and many other countries to also consider. Cost of living in Canada has gone insane. I live a comfortable, but modest lifestyle here. In Thailand, I would live like a king!!!
Ya canada is literally becoming a joke. My friend showed me a pack of chicken drumsticks for $3.95 in the US and the same package in Canada was $22.95. Exchange from the US price would be around $6 cad. Get out while you still can!
Yes. For western men, retiring in SE Asia countries is the best. BUT make sure you know the law and rules which applies to foreign-born men marrying and staying here. Most laws now benefits the locals more then foreign-born.

Average monthly salary for CEO position in large corporations in Thailand is 1.5 million Bahts a month, not including other fringe benefits. It may answer your question. If 1 USD = 35 Bahts, it is approximately 42,857 USD a month.

What’s the average cost of living like he was saying in the video I tried to do the conversion rate, but not really understanding it because I don’t know what the average cost of living is. @@papabear007 1USD is around 36 bath at the time of my typing so 1500USD is around 54600 Bath which will definitely cover all your monthly expenses no matter where you live in Thailand. Covering all expenses and living a luxurious live are different though. the value of 1500USD will depend heavily on where you live but for basic necessity, it is more than enough. I guess it's a no brainer as a single man retired and living in Florida that Thailand is a strong possibility for me to live. I'll make the decision after my first visit to Thailand. Thanks again for the info and great videos.
I live in Phuket. A villa starts anywhere at 40.000 baht and up. The amounts these girls mention don't make you rich in any way. A decent villa is 80k, a really nice one 120k+. During high season these prices double or even triple. My monthly costs with a 50k villa are 150k baht. I don't party, drink or whatever. I do eat a lot of food for bodybuilding, so food costs for me and my girlfriend are 25-35k baht a month. 40-50k/month as they said does not make you rich. It would mean I only have food, electricity, but no house, gas, or anything like that.
The amount stated by these girls is relative to their understanding of what makes someone financially free. I live off a net a income of around 100k and I'm certainly not rich, but compared to a lot of people I am in a relatively comfortable position. It's much like someone earning a million baht a month thinking someone who earns 70k a month is poor - it's all relative.
@@ianscott424 It's relative. Bangkok and Phuket are the most expensive places to live. 50k is enough to live really well in many places, it's only enough to live ok in Phuket.
@luxuryseaviewvillas6744 I think you are bang in the money here. 50k to 60k every month would give you a comfortable life in Thailand without being extravagant. Basic accomadation, plenty of money for food, and the occasional big night out if that's your thing...
I live in Dallas, Texas but visit London often. The girl that said Fay is her second name for England looks really really familiar. Like she worked in a Hotel I stay at, or pub I frequent..
Interesting take on this from some Thai girls. Very cute ones too, especially the short one with the blonde streaks in her hair in the second interview. Frangs need to factor in extra expenses though compared to Thais. Such as medical insurance, visa renewals and currency fluctuations if you are relying upon a pension or monthly foreign income. Plus if you have a "girlfriend" or a wife she will expect you to help her pay for family support which is what a lot of these girls will be doing already while working. It's still a lot more affordable and better lifestyle than any first world western country for sure, but there are extras that will need to be accounted for too that are unique to a foreigner on a visa situation.
I was in Thailand, Bangkok last March '24. I liked it. I do have a fiancé there. I will be going back a couple of times to prep for the ceremony in Summer of '25.
10K a month is more than enough for a family of 4 anywhere in thailand. I say this making some assumptions, if 2 of those require a good private school then the numbers change. But all in all at 10k/month you can live where you want and do what you like without worrying about money. The bigger worry is the new pending tax laws on taxing overseas earnings. Research that before you make any move.

I think you need more then 40-50k thb here in BKK, but as Geofrey mentioned you can find cheaper (rent) or more expensive. I actually thought Phuket was less, then again I suppose it depends what you're doing and where you're staying. 100k a bit better.
I'm Thai living in Bangkok and Phuket i would say 100,000 THB in terms of privilage and luxury living/ take care of my parents and my cats/ more savings or easily to buy land & house and travel abroad (Europe/USA) every year. Lol. Avoid girls that have ridiculous expectations like a mill per month 😂😂😂. Personally I pay for myself and my partner works and pays for herself. Works well and no drama.
I am on holiday in the US right now. $6,000 a month gets you almost nowhere. Rent here in Florida ( I am in Airbnb) is averaging around $1,800. Cheap meal is $12, average meal probably $25 plus for a single person. I’m spending minimum $30 a day and that doesn’t include going to dinner with my son. $4/gal for gas. Live is really shit here even with a solid income. Living on 200k in Pattaya is a game changer. I don’t even spend half and I party, have luxury condo, eat good food, take grab everywhere.

I have a question. Everyone is talking about "salaries." Indeed, when talking about jobs, when someone says their new job pays $2,000 USD monthly, that $2,000 is BEFORE taxes and other deductions. One's "take-home" pay is way less than that. Here in the U.S. the average deductions for taxes, FICA, social security, state taxes, etc. total about 30 to 35 percent being lopped off your $2,000 salary. When Geofrey and all those interviewees are talking about monthly money one must be getting, are they talking NET amounts, or gross wages/salary (before deductions)? P.S. I duly note that guys getting U.S. Social Security payments are NOT taxed. But depending on the plan, retirement income may be subject to income taxes.
Thank you for this. I recently married an older Thai woman but 9 years younger than me. She has 3 more years to retire and I’ll retire in 15 months or so. She has her own home, almost villa style and I own my home in the USA. One idea is winter over in Thailand, hot months we stay at my house. Finding current income levels and what can be done is interesting with my dual retirement. Buying a new Harley in Thailand freaks me out because of the duty tax and I can’t bring my 2020 Harley over. Is there any way to get around this duty tax? Dumb question, of course not. I did but is a new Hilux so at least we have a nice rig to tour around near Khon Kaen. If you have a retirement nest egg of about 1.5 milliion USD and you keep it in the S&P 500. 5K USD/month in Thailand is a very comfortable lifestyle.
Nice video. Did you know you can get custom suites for under $150?
This was a super interesting video. In my opinion I think if you are making over 100,000 baht per month you are doing pretty good in Thailand. I know a lot of people in Thailand who have been pretty honest about their income. The majority of Thai people make between 10,000-50,000 baht per month. Some foreigners that I have met have made from a low of 30,000 baht to a high of 300,000 baht per month. When you are getting in to the higher range of those numbers, most of them are business owners.
I man 100,000k bath is around 3k USD, even 3k usd is pretty decent.
@@sumireravenclaw8034 3k USD/month after taxes really isn't that much for a single income. Thats about 60k-65k$ USD a year. Thats not enough to afford a home (buy) in most major cities in the US.
Yep $2500 you can do anything everyday easy
I was there for a week last month and spent $1500

@@locker1325 he was asking their opinion, not asking a local accountant 🙄
Everywhere is boring if you don't know what to do
Yes.
It’s just what I have got told by people who have stayed there for more than 3 weeks.
They say there is nothing to do but go to the pool, go out and eat, go to a bar, fighting through all the sells people and bad infrastructure on the road.
The same every day.
After 1 month it get boring.

Anything you can do back home you can do in Thailand...even more actually...You aren't able to do things like going to see professional fights every day back home as an example.
The target should be 25X your annual salary at a withdrawal rate of 4%. At your numbers no one could retire. 😂

Had to do double-take on that girl with the bird in her hair. I thought it was a decoration and then I saw it move, LOL
In my opinion. To live comfortably you need to make 50k baht($1,500) per month. Rich is anything above 100k baht per month. Poor is 15k baht per month, you'll be living paycheck to paycheck.
Very good content bro! Looking forward for Thailand.
Thanks! Enjoy thailand bro
@@geofreypetersonofficial gonna start to marathon your videos bro! I will be retired in 9 years than I plan to move Thailand, I´m from Brazil. Is it hard to get permanent residence in there?
WOW, that first pair of girls, the one with the two-tone hair is just STUNNINGLY beautiful!
We need to visit at these prices.
The young lady in the blue Bronx shirt is totally adorable - I'd glady give her what she wants to be happy.
Chiang Mai is lot cheaper than Bangkok.yes not too many option with public transport but I use Bolt or grab bike taxi to travel in the city. They are cheaper than Bangkok taxi and not more than 50 bhat. If you are middle class or lower middle class people from western country, You can stay in Chaing Mai like a boss. And also Chiang Mai is safer than Bangkok.
Well, an 18-karat Rolex DayDate with a President bracelet quietly screams *_w_* *_e_* *_a_* *_l_* *_t_* *_h_* *_!_*
*I think that as a foreigner, if you can afford to fly to Thailand and stay in a nice hotel you're going to be considered "rich".*
Minute marker 3:12 -- You did not understand what her point was. Her point was that Bangkok has more , it has more of just about everything (outside of beaches) Bangkok has more options . That was the specific point
That first one is a keeper💯
Hope to visit Chiang Mai after I retire.
Doing both could be fun 🤩
Your Harley will get stolen here in Thailand!
Be careful. Protect your assets and control your own finances. Don’t buy a house in Thailand.
Great content. It just astonishes me you can be there and not know a word of Thai.
👍👍👍👍
Nice content, keep it up guys ! 😍😀😍
Great video
My lovely one bed condo (with 24/7 security, off road parking, swimming pool, gym and laundry room) in Chong Nonsi, right by the BTS was 10,500 bhat a month. My meals at work were comp’ed but I invariably ate out in street restaurants, if you’ve got some language or a trustworthy girl-Friday then you can live a very good life for about 50k.
Can you brake down the money example - US dollar to their Money. I would appreciate. Thank you. Hoping you have a good day
You learn it
I am currently talking to a few women on Thai Friendly. They have been helping me learn Thai and learn about customs. They tell me how much things cost all day long. They show me prices. One has an apartment in Bangkok, which is 50k USD. Another is building a home on their parents land for 7k USD. That one blows my mind. I would be very rich in Chaing Mai. I have already been asked to marry about 5 women there. I don't count the bar girls/massage girls/free lance girls. Those are all over the place and always ready.
Lmao they just want ur money
As a tourist who has visited Chiang Mai every year since 2005, I used to budget, after hotel paid, £500 (22,300 Baht) a week. I alway's had a great time and a usual holiday would be upto 3 months.
Thanks for sharing!
rich is 100K p/m in the provinces or 200k p/m on islands or in Bangkok
Very helpful video
Glad it was helpful!
Love the girl who said "Married for 1 night" My kinda woman 😁🥰 Thanks for uploading, I feel mega rich now (As long as I dont look at the expences of living over here in the West) I´ve never really thought about money in Baht, but most people I know, including myself, earn at least a couple million (THB) every year, some a lot more.. That sounds pretty cool when you say it out loud :D
This video really helps. Thanks.
Gosh they are really nice. Very impressed.
So in your estimate how much per month do you need to live comfortably in Pattaya? Thanks
Depends.... how much time you spending on soi 6,7, walking street 😂😂😂
