Hello, friends! So, the moment of summing up has come. This video contains all the best moments of building my dugout in the forest from start to finish. Thank you for watching all the previous episodes of construction. In this video you will see how I dug a hole, installed poles, made walls, installed a roof, a ladder to a dugout, a brick oven and other stages of construction of a log house in the forest. Enjoy your viewing.
I forgot to say before my channel was called "Life and survival in the wild"! By the way, you can find out how to survive in the wild by watching my videos.
    It is my bushcraft 2021!

Hi! I decided to create a second channel "Sounds of Nature by ALEX", on which I will upload videos with sounds of nature. I love nature very much, and I like all natural sounds: birds singing, water murmuring, rain noise, wind noise. These sounds calm me down. If you have trouble sleeping or you just want to enjoy the sounds of nature, then visit my new channel. Today we will listen to the sounds of a hand stream. Looking ahead, I will say that it is here that I would like to build a small hunting hut. A magnificent quiet place where the water murmurs and you can retire with nature. Enjoy watching!

Whilst I just love this, it isn't "bushcraft". It is a couple of men (maybe dad's), building using modern tools, to build an amazing dugout absolutely, however, it isn't what is known as bushcraft.
A tape measure, drill, hammer and nails, perspex, a drum for a heater, tarpaulins, a chainsaw and milled wood....this is a weekender for the kids...
I DO love it, and I am gonna share it with my son in law, and tell him this is what I want, only bigger lol he has plenty of land AND it is very sandy, like in the video..
Edit. I didn't see the bricks for the fireplace...until now..

I was wondering, why build a shelter in the ground vs. building it above ground? is it because of insulation? and if you have heavy rain, would the inground shelter get flooded? Thank you for your videos, very interesting and informative.

    • @graydentechy7157
      @graydentechy7157 2 года назад +18

Im not expert, but how ever I think that above ground vs below would, yes like you said be insulated, and not be flooded due to the mud, or dirt usually staying in form as the insulation and not having any water leak through, also in the video he puts tarps up protecting the shelter from being flooded. Good thinking though!

I’m thinking where he built has pretty good slope. Hard to tell from the video but I’m betting it’s higher elevation and not in valley where water would pool.
Also it being sand, the waters going to drain right down and not pool up. He did line the walls with the tarps so it should in theory drain down and away.
Now if some freak storm hit hurricane style and dump massive amounts of water it might get a little wet down there but will eventually drain. He did have the raised flooring so he’d be fine.
You can tell by the dryness of the sand when he was digging deep which looked to be summer in the beginning of the video, he prolly doesn’t get crazy rains like that. All speculation and I could be entirely wrong but cool video

When I first watched this build, I thought you were nuts. Even so, I kept watching and discovered that your "dug out" is the best one I've seen built.
I would do a few things differently, but that is a difference in the method, a little, and some different modifications, ideas.
The object of this build was, I am assuming, to have a small warm, well hidden, and permanent shelter. With a little more work and modification, that set of goals will be excellently met.
I've learned a lot about what to do, what not to do and how to progress in the building of a similar shelter. Thanks. Please continue. Although you may think your done, there is still much to do to perfect this shelter into a place to go when SHTF finally happens. ;-)

Consider also: A Dakota type fireplace dug out into one of the side walls and one could still obtain heat, have a place to cook, have more space on the inside, and the chimney would be away from the burnable shelter. Don't forget a chimney cap too.

    • @charlesbrightman4237

Also a covered entry way to help keep rain and snow (depending upon where the shelter is) could help keep the entry way open and dry.
