    Crazy frosts have come to my region of residence. Daily the temperature drops below -25.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Today I'm going to my dugout to see if it can withstand the extreme temperature of -29.2 degrees Fahrenheit. After all, such a fierce frost is promised tonight, it seems to me that my house underground will be able to warm me and I will stay alive. Will I be able to overcome the elements or not?

    NEW VIDEO ruclips.net/video/KRWmqdn5Tzc/видео.html
    Hi! It was an extreme trip to my dugout. During the day, the temperature is -25 degrees Celsius (-13 Fahrenheit), and at night it was promised to cool down to -34 degrees (-29.2 Fahrenheit)! I didn't know if my forest dugout could cope with such a frost, so I was afraid to freeze. But my wood-burning stove showed its best side! It was warm and cozy!

    These wilderness creators are a different breed. Set up the camera, film myself walking 50 yards through deep snow, go back 50 yards to grab the camera, return the 50 yards to where I was, start process all over. All while it’s minus 20 degrees. 😮 That commitment to your content.

    Hey Alex, it's dangerous to spray a flammable paint indoors. The fumes are toxic and you have an open flame. No good. I'm a Hazardous Materials specialist and I've dealt with these situations all the time. Spray outside in well ventilated area and I know it's cold. Spray when it's warmer.

    If that was a carbon monoxide detector you put up, I would advise you to mount it lower, closer to where your head will be when sleeping. This is because CO sinks; it will fill up the bottom of the dugout first. Realistically, the only time CO will collect is if the draft of your stove ceases.

    • @sparkymark68
      @sparkymark68 Год назад +23

      The co2 detector is so close to his bed, your suggestion would make no difference whatsoever in a compartment of that size.

    • @nickziemer8123
      @nickziemer8123 Год назад +13

      I was thinking the same thing. Id probably put the co detector lower too but, you know what? Alex obviously slept fine overnight which seems to be his ventilation was more than sufficient. As long as his ventilation is cleared, he’s all set.

    • @urbancraft2372
      @urbancraft2372 Год назад +20

      CO is actually lighter than air and usually disperses throughout the room. The reason why many are installed lower is because they needed to be plugged in due to higher power draw than a smoke detector on the first few generations. No harm or foul here.

    Минус такой печки что она долго разогревается. Оптимальный вариант буржуйка обложенная кирпичами, когда надо быстро нагреть киричи убираем, когда надо охладить или аккумулировать тепло на ночь - обкладываем))

    On one of my many sojourns into the bush I spent six weeks, February into March, on my own as was usual. During those weeks the temp. dropped to -45, most often days were below -25 and colder. I would make a simple snow shelter for the night with a candle for light and a bit of heat. . Since there was deep snow during that time I traveled on snowshoes, dragging my bit of gear wrapped in a tarp as I didn't have a sled or toboggan. Over those cold, dark weeks (in the far north days are short during winter) I seldom had a fire, usually one or two small fires each day, enough to boil water for tea and to make a bannock. By the time those six weeks were done I could feel my teeth getting loose as I was eating little. When April arrived I was happy as I was able to fish for Grayling to feed myself better. It is amazing how long we can go without much food or fire, even during bitter winter.

    Looking like a beautiful winter home, Alex! I hope things where you are stay safe and your times at the cabin remain both peaceful and restful, but most of all private! Painting the chimney was a good idea, and it looks like it probably doesn't need to be that tall when it's wet and cold like this.

      The taller the pipe the better the draft once u get the pipes warm. And I’m thinking there is extreme snow there. Better to have it to long then to short and have to add pipe or make changes in a snow storm

    Hey Alex, nice job on the video as usual :) I was wondering if you ever thought about about maybe bringing some plastic tubs with you(ones similar to what one would use to maybe store clothes in or something) and let them collect snow when it snows so when it eventually melts, you'll have a little bit of a water supply? Or something similar?

      You can get super large plastic storage bags with zip lock tops and handles, that are much lighter to carry and the thin sides would let the snow melt faster

    a co2 sensor is a good idea ... but mount it about bed level CO2 is heavier than oxygen and so settles to the floor ... with the sensor abut bed level it will chime before your head is below the CO2 layer waking you in time to fix the problem ... another good thing to have in the cabin is a pelltier fan ... it runs off the heat of the stove and moves the air around in the cabin .... have it pointed towards the floor and it will keep the air stirred and moving the co2 out the stove inlet ... as the stove draws the cool floor air into it and sends it heated up and out the flue ... also the fans draft will keep the moisture down more because ti will promote evaporation and even sublimation (near the stove anyway)

      Deux bons conseils que vous donnez là: mettre le détecteur de CO2 le plus bas possible car ce gaz mortel est plus lourd que l’air, et mettre un ventilateur Peltier qui fonctionne sans autre énergie que la chaleur ;-)

    Of course you want that chimney to blend in and keep your zemľanka hidden. When you retreat to it to "disappear" from civilization. There might be absolutely reasonable and legal reasons to hide (I would certainly hide in such circumstances). Just make sure to bring enough canned food to survive for a couple of weeks, possibly months. And water, if there are no near sources of drinking water when there is no snow around. 😀
