Would love if you can incorporate some tips for people from other racquet sport backgrounds. I primarily come from table tennis and tennis so I get a bit confused between doing a tt backhand flick on higher balls (more wrist and at least for me from middle of the body in front of me) vs a yellow zone roll (almost no wrist and more off to the side usually when keeping someone back... Basically a tennis swinging volley). I often catch myself starting a flick but then converting to a roll if the ball starts to dive and then I'm just out of position....I realize this just makes it seems like I need to get better at reading spin and trajectories.....

So is there a difference between a roll volley and a volley with topspin, or are they just 2 different names for the same shot?

good topic. I believe I use my wrist to flick the roll. Now I will focus on just using my shoulder.

Yes, yes, yes! As a former tennis player, I'm not a fan of dinking,... so I love doing roll volleys.

If one hits dinks with topspin, could this shot be disguised well?

Seems like most dinking is diagonal and not straight across. I end speeding up crosscourt but if not a winner is blocked to my partner which they usually are not ready for. Yuck. Any direction maybe higher percentage? Should I change the direction to speedup straight across from me? Get a better partner?

Yes most of the time you should speed up directly in front of you. Cross court speed up gives more time for your opponent to react which is why your partner is eating those shots most likely.

Always get a better partner. Consider paying someone to play with you. And then consider paying someone to play FOR and AS you. Then you just sit back and count the cash! That sweet, sweet pickleball cash. I’d hire Zane to play as me if I had enough money. As long as I get a sufficient portion of the winnings.
