I think the dupr system is all over the place depending on how good the area you're playing in is. Also since pickleball is mainly a duos game some players can get carried by their partner
For real, I was surprised to see on DUPR that they're actually 5.0. I'm a 4.25 and thought I had a pretty good grasp of skill levels. Sure Zane is a pro and I'm sure these guys are better than they showed but they really did look like 3.5's bricking all those returns and volleys and going down 7-0 right off that bat lol.
This is blowing my mind. Are there really 5.0 Pickleball players who still backhand slice their returns only????? I mean Tyson is the last bastion of the slice return in Pro play and even he is adding a two handed back hand return!
Feliciano Lopez sliced his returns in tennis. Reached number 12 in the world. He hit close to his 70 or 80% of rally shots as slices. It's possible. It has drawbacks and advantages. It's about how you use it and the rest of your game.
What does that have to do with Pickleball? In tennis you have a huge court and lots of room for a slice. And Pickleball, you have a very small court and a very small space between you the baseline and the back fence. Top spin is king in Pickleball because of that. It’s simple basic physics. It’s a common paradigm that tennis player is coming to Pickleball like to get Low and do their spicy rainbow return. Anybody who has a 5.0 should be able to handle that just fine. And anybody who’s 5.0 one above should not be doing that because it’s too easy to handle and put more top spin on for a aggressively damaging drive that dips right at the net
@El_Guap It is making a concession, it has advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that you have more time to get to the net. The disadvantage is that they have more time to hit the ball. From the middle, you have 10 feet each side. Any athlete with explosiveness covers that with a side step. Less than half a second. Pickleball ball travels at 50, 60 mph max from a pro that's crushing the ball. The ball has holes and slows down. You can volley that. Do physics or math it's within human abilities to react to it. If you hit flat or with topspin the ball is reaching them quickly. Gives them rhythm. Doesn't give you time to get up there and position yourself. Strategies have drawbacks and advantages. I recommend learn to do all. Slice, block, and topspin returns. All are possible when you know when and how to use them. See your best shot, use them wisely. I'm sure you put Feliciano Lopez only slicing him 10 years back when he was young and he wins everything. He is 1.90 explosive, he'll get any volley in these dimensions.
@@DATennismeh, debatable. You don’t have to hit the flat return with a lot of pace….you can hit a flat arching return that travels slow and stays low on a bounce. It has its time and place to do a heavy flat return or heavy TS return. But it’s easy to hit a controlled flat return with time to get to line. I have no issues being beat to the line…
@@REZlostboyz it seems many of you heard someone said doing slices is not good and stuck with it. If you know how to hit a slice and it stays low it can be a good return. Don't do it all the time. Use it sometimes if you know the proper way to hit. If not not. But there are many pros who mix slices. It's a strategy that can work.

They have such an advantage playing doubles versus single, shouldn't the pro get two chances at a serve? Or is being a receiver in Rally scoring an advantage?
I can’t imagine the pressure of playing Zane, but those 5.0 guys seemed to be missing basic shots. but Zane could have been putting lots more on the ball.
Takes time to adjust to any plus shot like a pro drive or pro serve. I am guessing if they played every day for a week and then played a game the result would be different. 5.0s were down 7-0 and in 6 of the points they averaged less than half a shot in play.
I feel like Duncan is losing some efficiency on his serve by using his same-side foot as his anchor, or at least the way he's serving doesn't involve much hip. You can see at 4:04, 4:48, 8:18, and 8:37 (just pointing out the first few from different angles). To his credit, they're consistently going in, but I just wonder if some adjustments could increase the power for a more competitive serve.
