I just got my guinea pig, I'm really excited but nervous.
Update: Since a lot of people asked, we couldn't properly take care of her, and some other stuff happened, so we gave her away to a family who already had two guinea pigs and shes been doing amazing!!!

@@tipswithshein6521 don't unless it's for their health and or safety. They are not toys you can play with when you want. They are animals who you should take care of the best you can.
@@BLazeWigglytuff you can hold them I have one and whenever I go over there and put my hand out she climbs on my hand. You can pick them up
@@milkshake8845 I was responding under the context of, "what if I want to hold them when they are hiding in there hut". You may be able to do it with your guinea pig when they are comfortable being around you but if you try and snatch them while they are hiding in a place they feel safe they will be terrified and that outways the desire to pick them up in my opinion.
Wonderful video. Demonstrating how our hands look like hawk claws to a prey animal was perfect.

@@michellascaux237 My pet-sitter come over twice a day in order to spot clean the cage, refill the hay racks and water bottles if needed and to give fresh vegetables. 💖

It’s been three days since I got my piggy and I’ve been hand feeding her since I got her, just now she fell asleep on my lap

I have 2 for support animals. And they always know when I wake up its time for breakfast and fresh vegetables. Makes my heart shine hearing them talk.

Update: I thought it was best to give them away they are in a better home now I do miss them but I am not capable to take care of them right now(there are so many other things on why I had to give then away)

Me and my boyfriend got ourselves two guinea pigs pretty recently, only 3 weeks old. We were told by the lady at the pet store, who have many guinea pigs herself, to leave tha cage open and not have any hiding spots for the piggies out. This way, they will get used to you roaming around more easily, and will in general be more accepting towards your movements.
We made sure they had plenty of hay in a corner to hide in, but other than that nothing. It worked for us, after only one week they show great trust. They have hiding huts now but are not glued to them. Just thought I'd let people know, since it seems normal to give them a hiding space from the beginning, and I honestly think this will make the process of bonding with them much slower.
@achlys.the.powerful.therian. It was going great! We expanded their cage so much that we could both sit down with them in there and give them treats and cuddles. They loved climbing all over us. Sadly, my partner developed asthma as well as allergies due to them, so in the end we had to give them away. They’re with some family members of mine now on Naboo, loving life with lots of love every day! But they’ll be forever missed by the entire staff here on the Death Star.

See, I’ve had guinea pigs for years. At one point I had 4 all at once, but 3 of them all died over the course of a year, and I had them since babies so they were rlly comfortable with me. But I had one piggie left, so I adopted 2 adult piggies and they r rlly scared of me, so thx for this I’ve been doing these things with them for the past week and now they will take food from my hand! Baby steps lmao
Trust is our "weeeeeeeeeing" every day at 5am. And then cuddling with nice sounds of her. She loves bath, she will remember you after a week and when you hear "puuuuurrrrr", they really love you.
Your voice is so calming and your piggies are so cute!
My grandma just passed away and I was given her guinea pig to take care of. So this is really helpful. Thanks!

Brooke Nagy basically u lie down on ur bed and get a blanket to make them comfortable and just pet there belly or any spot that they like it takes time!

I’m getting a Guinea pig in a few days ahhh I’m so excited
I got 6 male piggies back in April this year and it did take months before they now come to the cage when I say breakfast or lunch etc they live outside in a big cage as I live in Queensland Australia they are such a happy lot and it gives me so much to get up in the morning now I retired in Feb. 2021 due to congestive heart failure.

I just got my guinea pig yesterday, but he keeps running away from me! His name is Moca and all he does is stay in his little house... and doesn't eat his food! :( This has helped me a lot and I hope this works! He doesn't have a mate yet, but I'll show my mom this. Thank you so much!

The way I pick my piggy up is to gently stroke her on the head and then slowly make my way down to her belly and then I pick her up. I then cuddle her and put her back once she feels uncomfortable/ hungry.

I got mine today. And im nervous too.
I've had my guinea pigs for about 2 months and they're still not used to me. They hide whenever I get off my bed, they run away every time I try to hand feed them or give them food, and whenever I try to pet them, they run away. It honestly hurts because I try to create a bond with them, I did every tip on this video, but it still doesn't work... I've given it time, I've been patient, but I just can't gain their trust...
What are the hide houses made of in the 4th point? they look great!
Great tips! Although my piggies' routine isn't based on time because my life isn't at all. 😅 But they use certain cues like my fan and light, the door being opened and the door being closed to figure out where in the day I am. They're such smart babies. ❤️

I need this because I have 3 guinea pigs and 2 of them were best friends. One of the 2 died and the other had been hiding ever since.i miss the other guinea pigs zooming ever since her friend passed. So I can really use this to get her to trust me
My ginnea pigs escape my cage a lot and my ginnea pig " dugge " we have a very long gap between our trust and when I got a small dog house it vhanged a bit this helped a lot the patience was the best

I'm new to owning piggies, but my 2 girls ended up being beyond skittish when I brought them home last week. Started prepping their veggie bowl in front of them while talking to them (whisper/gently) and playing rainfall sounds before feeding them. Then I sit w/ them for an hour or so just watching them eat/communicate. Massive improvements seen, now when I come out they're popcorning and wheeking instead of just sitting in their hut. They (mine) do NOT like being held for more than 2 minutes, though.
