    Yes. People are going nuts that you painted a Haywood Wakefield piece. Though it looks nice, maybe you could have used that technique on a more mundane piece.

  • @tereasaurban3216
    @tereasaurban3216 9 месяцев назад +18

    Heywood Wakefield furniture is always made from solid northern yellow birch, they never use veneer or particleboard. I would never paint this furniture, but it does look nice.

    Painting a Heywood Wakefield dresser.... It will be tough for anyone to completely remove that color later. All for less than $200 profit. 😢
    You could have sold it as is for $1000 or more!

      Heywood, not Haywood. This particular piece sells for about $850 on Etsy.

      I am horrified at this woman's arrogance, ignorance, and disrespect for historical pieces of furniture. Apparently, she did not grow up watching Antique Roadshow. Imagine the "real" skill required to restore this piece to its original beauty. She would have tons in profit. Please save your paint jobs for the junk pieces. Those transformations are fabulous.

    While it looks lovely in blue, restoring it would have brought 3 times what you sold it for. That said, most of these collectible dressers are not sold through Facebook so it may have sat a while.

      Oh, plz don't paint!
      Too late. It sounds like you've pulled put primer.
      It's likely that your customers are younger, not sure they care if pieces are wood or not.
      Genuine hardwood furniture, especially fine quality is becoming more difficult to buy.

      Lmao these comments. I’m 60. If you like wood furniture but it if you don’t like painted furniture don’t buy it. I do not like unpainted furniture. It’s my preference. But to say you won’t watch her again because she painted a piece is stupid 😂😂. That piece of furniture was ugly I don’t care what brand name it is

    I think the finished piece is lovely. It saddens me that people come onto your channel & are so mean. You deserve better than that. If people dont like it, they should just move on to the next video. Plus, there IS such a thing as constructive criticism & so many posts just chose to be unkind & rude. You did great & keep doing your thing the way YOU choose to. Oh and P.S. covid is still out there - I have it now - hope you & your guy are both well.

    Just because it’s a classic piece of furniture doesn’t mean it can’t be tastefully modernised. Love the colour and the quality of the piece remains. I do think you underpriced it, it’s beautiful and I think you could have sold it for nearer $800-900. The buyer got a great bargain! 🙂

  • @lindathornton6985
    @lindathornton6985 9 месяцев назад +1

    $250 profit for how many hours of work? When you could’ve made closer to $800+ profit is sad. Considering part of your channel is showing people how to have successful side hustles/businesses flipping furniture, this project didn’t hit the spot for me. I think part of being successful is knowing which pieces to paint, and which to restore. This piece would’ve been a perfect example to teach others that.

  • @KimRinehart

  • @chrisp.76

    I’m really upset that you painted a Heywood Wakefield piece. It one thing to paint something that has plastic laminate on it, but solid wood?!? If you have something like this again perhaps you could do a little research to see how much the piece is worth first. This would have been an easy restoration.

  • @WabiSabi1959
    @WabiSabi1959 9 месяцев назад +1

    This was a flip, which is what Lauren does. She doesn't do a restoration. She sells on marketplaces, which require lower pricing. A restorer would have stayed true to the original and sold at a much higher price.

    The look of it came out sharp but maybe on a another piece. This is just one piece I couldn't have painted. Probably devalued it too. You could have gotten more than a $250 profit had you stained it and kept the wood look. I love your pieces though and enjoy learning from your videos.

    I have some of these dressers. From what I've seen it's hard to restore the finish and get it looking as it should. Most people who varnish it again find that the the wood grain pops out too much and it ends up looking really weird. So it's very understandable she didn't want the aggravation and frustrating of restoring the original finish.

  • @today7518

    😡I have loved everything previously done but when I saw you were going to do a vintage MCM Haywood-Wakefield piece, a panicked “NOooooooo!” came out of me. My reaction was that you’ll ruin it. And you did. But it’s only paint; hopefully someday it can be restored back to its original wonderful design. Some designs are so classic that they should be considered off limits to makeovers, this piece being a good example.
