When my husband and I stopped smoking over 20 years ago I washed all textiles in the house, literally all (clothes, curtains, pillow cases, beadspreads, all the bedding aso.) Then I cleaned all the furniture really careful and afterwards we renovated the whole house so that all smoke smells vanished in clean air. And we never smoked again.
Power tip: round over the bottom of the feet slightly with a router or sander to prevent them from splintering. It also make them easier to slide without resistance.
It blows me away to think of how I was raised with parents, grandparents and all my aunts and uncles smoking all around us daily. I'm 73 now and have had asthma all my life. My sisters and I have never smoked, but we feel we sure breathed in enough second hand smoke. I don't understand how people these day can still be smoking or vaping with everything that is known now. My mom stopped smoking last 10 years of her life, because she had a heart attack and had major surgery. My dad had quit at 36 and wouldn't let my mom smoke in the house after that thankfully. When working at schools I could tell the parents that smoke, because there kids smelled strong of smoke, made me sad for them having to breath that in. Glad you were able to get that smell out. It looks a lot better too.
that's great for you to not have started smoking even after being surrounded by smokers all your life. not everyone is the same tho. my mom smoked while she was pregnant with me, smoked while i was a newborn, smoked while i was a toddler, she never stopped. neither did my father, nor any other family member. unlike you it just made it easier for me to start smoking as well. moved out at 14 and the first thing i bought was a pack of cigarettes that i always bought for my mom ever since i was 6-ish. my brother, fortunately, just grew to have cigarettes just like you and your siblings, and as great as that is saying that you don't understand why anyone would ever smoke is strange. you grew up around it, you of all people should be understanding of it
@@ukrivu please understand I wasn't trying to put you or anyone else down who does smoke. Because I have asthma and smoke triggers it so badly, just the smell of it cause's fear of not being able to breath. Is why I have a really hard time understanding why anyone these days would smoke, knowing how bad it is for our health. When I was young this info was not out there. I also understand how hard it is to stop this habit, seeing people in my family trying too. I can only relate to trying to get off sugar's.
I think we are all affected differently. Given we cant predict who will be affected, best not to do it. I have never smoked but my dad amoked about four packs a day u til I was 12 and Im 64 and have lungs of steel. Barely ever get a cough with a cold. Im sure I rode home from hospital in a car filled with smoke. Horrible
The thing I like the most oin your videos is that you are so methodical on each step. You don’t back off until you get the job done perfectly no matter now many extra steps it may take to get the look you want. ❤
I bought a very nice seated bench at an estate sale and as I was driving home realized the house was a smokers house. It took 6 months - a ton of cleaning with different products, newspaper inside, coffee grinds, vinegar, and baking soda (not all at once) to kill the smell. I was finally able to move the piece from the garage into the house after 6 months. Now - I ask questions.
I had a tall boy that I got for free. I also had it in my garage for 2+ years. I cleaned it with vinegar and placed baking soda in the drawers for those 2 years. Its finally gone now. I have yet to paint it because my son took it to use in his room. Thank you for giving us good advice.
Well done Lauren you hit this out the park. I think you got every single detail just perfect on it. From the colour green you chose to the beautiful hardware and to all of those amazing bases you made. Everything just worked in harmony together. I hope it sells soon for you. Hold out for that special buyer and your asking price as it’s worth every penny 😊
Beautiful job. I’m 75 and just getting back to redoing furniture again. My son and daughter in law had me a cottage built to store all my crafts, decor etc with a 12’ long bench to work on my furniture. They even had a restroom with a walk-in shower put in now I’m using a cane to get around. Yalls videos are amazing and inspire this vintage lady to get up off her duff. Love you both💗💗💗💗
I have clear coated all raw wood to seal the wood after cleaning some smoker furniture I refinished. It gave me confidence and insurance the smell wasn’t coming back. Thanks for all the ideas
I have refinished furniture for fun/use in my home all my adult life. Now with a change in my life (retirement/disability) i can do it more!! I am excited to try out the market. I always learn from you!! Thanks for being here!
Wow... Regardless of the odor issue, the set is completely unrecognizable after the refurb. It looks phenomenal. The color is great, and the hardware matching the new bases look really good.
I really love the weeping willow paint color! It is a beautiful shade of green. I would absolutely pay that price for that set. It looks modern and new. Great job!
Ok this is AMAZING ! I’ve done alot of furniture ( I’m 67 years old) but never ever to this extent. You lost me at the base. These are absolutely stunning. Great job
Thank you for your very detailed explanation about each step of the process. 👍 And, hats off to Nieman for his amazing editing skills and all that he does for the channel. You two make an amazing team! 🤗
You have been doing a lot of wood flips lately. I was so happy to see a paint colour come out for this one. All the elements work so well together. I would definitely buy it if i didn't live on another continent 😊
Just a quick tip: OdoBan works great at eliminating odors and leaves behind a great scent. A bonus is it comes in a 1 gallon bottle that then makes up to like 10 gallons after it’s diluted. I used to run a cat rescue and I swear by the stuff, it works
I really Love this lt. Green bed set, it’s gorgeous. You do such a beautiful job on everything you You touch, the kitchens you done the bathroom you did, and I’m still trying to watch all your videos, I use to watch you when y’all first started. Then I forgot, I know this lady, she was a teacher I so so happy to see you’ve been doing so good. It’s so nice seeing you again, I wish you continuous good luck .👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍♥️♥️🙏🙏
Cloudy Ammonia is great for taking smoke smell out of house, car . I used to put it in old mugs or jars and sit the mug or jar in the window sill or in your case you could sit a small open container in the drawers. It really works.😊💕 and it’s really cheap! Good tip for you when you get furniture and have It sitting for awhile takes the hard labour to not so hard a project!😊

Just found your videos on RUclips. Love your series. I had a European antique furniture store. When the container of antiques were delivered and the cotainer door was opened the smell was really bad. A trick one of my suppliers taught me: After dusting out the interiors of case pieces, wash the inside of all of the case piece and all inside surfaces of drawers with a mixture of 10-20% paste Johnson's Wax and 90% inexpensive paint thinner. It washes, cleans and touches up any blemishes on the interior of antiques and seals the interiors. The refreshed interior jmakes the piece look good and eliminates the smell including smoke. Just a 2 a step process! Maybe this info will be of some use to you.
With wall paint, Home Depot will add a fragrance during the process of blending your particular color. I believe I chose "Fresh Linen" which took away a hint of left-over smoke from a "man cave". The smoke being both cigar and actual smoke from grilling and smoking meat. It worked wonderfully. Would that be possible in addition to the thorough cleaning with furniture? You're so meticulous in the way you clean,! I'm always impressed!
GOD, I SOOOOO miss refinishing furniture. some reupholstering too (the easy stuff). I envy you that you are able to do this so much! Maybe one day for me..... Love your stuff. FANTASTIC work! asnd thanks for the tips and all!
This is a great video. You must feel a HUGE sense of relief and accomplishment for finally getting this daunting task completed. And it came out so beautiful! It was nice to see a few little hints of Neiman's presence throughout. He needs to do more cameos. He's so funny and he really adds to these videos. Anyway, SUPERB job, Lauren!
Hi guys Lauren this actually took my breath away seeing it finished! You've done so many beautiful pieces but this one just wow!!!! Neman I love your edits they make me laugh what an fab team you both are( sorry if phone change your name again) you guys are brilliant 🙌
Absolutely love how this set turned out! I have an end table that wreaks of smoke. I had heard of shellac but not the odor bully. I’ll have to use that combo.🤞🤞
So awesome! Love this set so much. The 2nd piece I did to sell had a stinky smoke smell. I got it for free, so no big loss if it didn’t work out. I tried every hack out there to get the smell out and nothing worked. My last effort was spray shellac and it worked like a charm. But when I purchase pieces now, or get for free, I always make sure it is smoke free. I’ve had to use the shellac a time or two for musty smells. It’s a life saver.
Your music and editing are Emmy worthy - the content goes without saying and it's excellence. However, the music and matching edits really need the credit too always enjoy them. Specially the music thanks.
You can use cups of white vinegar to remove smoke smells. Put the cups inside (where the drawers go) leave it overnight….worked for me 😊. Also you could actually just refer to the pieces as a dresser and Chest-of-drawers.
It would be easier and require less in the way of supplies to shut the furniture in a room with an ozone generator for a few hours. I promise you, ozone completely neutralizes smoke and other smells. They will never come back. I have rescured even smoky upholstered chairs with ozone. But nice job anyway!

Good idea!!!
I inherited a beautiful bedroom suit from my brother and it reeks of cigarette smoke. Thanks for showing me how to deal with refinishing it
Wipe the furniture off with vinegar water. Vinegar naturalizes the smoke.

Really nice. I’m glad you went with the pulls on the doors.
You can say that again and again, "WOW!!" The transformation is AMAZING! You're my hero. Smoke smell is truly very difficult to remove. GREAT JOB!!
AMAZING! It is actually a different color after the second cleaning with the brush.

I agree with everything that you said. 👍😉
Ditto ❤
What a beautiful set you turned that into.
Your videos are so beautifully done…very professional ❤❤❤
Hi guys Lauren this actually took my breath away seeing it finished! You've done so many beautiful pieces but this one just wow!!!!
Neman I love your edits they make me laugh what an fab team you both are( sorry if phone change your name again) you guys are brilliant 🙌
I normally don’t comment but I just had to drop in and say these look awesome! The custom bases you made really make a difference!
Thank you so much 😊
OGM! LOVE this color combio! FABULOUS!
Positively stunning !!!! I love the contrast of the bases. Hardware is perfect. You always do the best at making things outstanding !
They look sooo good Lauren! Great job! 🥰🥰🥰
Job well done lauren❤❤
Jaw dropping transformation! ❤
That color is really popular right now. I hope that you make a decent profit for all of your time and effort! 🤗
Turned out fantastic. Good luck on the sale.
Wow!!! Beautiful work dear. You did a great job.
Absolutely love everything about it. Great job.
Wow they are stunning, I love them. Well done, great job
You are gifted my dear very gifted ❤🙏🫶
Lovely Makeover Lauren!! I like the choices you made 😊 on this huge project! I like the bases you made without the angled feet.
Excellent transformation!!! That’s a very fair price for the quality of workmanship that went into it… well done 🙏🎉😎🎶
I love it. The bases with the handles look beautiful.
Beautiful work! Love the color, hardware and legs!
This is one of my favorites. One of my favorite colors.
Absolutely love how this set turned out! I have an end table that wreaks of smoke. I had heard of shellac but not the odor bully. I’ll have to use that combo.🤞🤞
You do beautiful work.
Thanks for the hardware jig and base tips. Been putting both off because I was unsure! Might give it a go now!

You really make AWESOME furniture!!!! Really beautiful nicly done! ❤❤
It’s beautiful! I can see it working well with a lot of different styles.
Oh wow! That turned out so cool. I love the gold with the green. That should sell quickly.
Love the green. Beautiful job!
Oh Wow these turned out beautiful 😍❤️
Great transformation by adding platform & chunky hardware. Well done.
You can buy this silver paint for locking the oder in. We had a house fire. Had to use it and it worked
Love this set so much. You do amazing work. It's fascinating!!
Just a heads up, the tall dresser is in fact a chest of drawers!!!😊🎉❤
You can use cups of white vinegar to remove smoke smells. Put the cups inside (where the drawers go) leave it overnight….worked for me 😊. Also you could actually just refer to the pieces as a dresser and Chest-of-drawers.
Pressure washed and aired outside for a while, then use zinsser clear shellac on both inside and outside to seal in the smell then prime and paint
Absolutely beautiful !
Beautiful job Lauren you have such a great eye for style 👏
Lovely transformation!
Beautiful bedroom set now. I would have this in my home. Great job!
Fantastic makeover!!!
Beautiful set! I learn so much from all of your videos.
Lauren, 5 ladies have crashed in my hair salon over 30 years! All stayed to get their hair done! 😂
Amazing work,as always xx
Wow indeed, what an amazing transformation!
Gorgeous!
Nice editing, Neiman. 😂😂
The downside of old secondhand furniture is can smell ,be dirty ect
The upside you alway do a fantastic job in flipping 👏 👍
I really like your videography/editing.
Very pretty. Thanks for producing these videos.
What a lovely transformation!
Love that green.
I love to approximate the price I would pay for the furniture. I wasn't too far off with $2,450.
Exceptional job on this set!
Neiman: I knew it was "magic"!
Good job, love the color
Awesome video work❤
This looks so good

Does this work on items with a musty smell (from being stored in a basement)?
