I think that aesthetically, without wings it looks MUCH better. Subjective but that's my opinion.
I agree with Scott Peterson. On the V4R, they look great
Wings are magnifique !!
Wingless. Makes the bike look smaller. I love it! Keep up the great vids!
With the wings, its part of the look of the beast, absolutely!!
Keep them off, the wings kinda look silly on a naked.
Wing it my man! Gimmick or not it’s part of the bike. 👍🏼
Thanks for doing this
I've not liked the wings from the moment i first say the SF but I haven't actually seen one without them.
My suspicions were correct, it looks sooo much better wing less
They're a silly gimmick on a SF imo
Man those are some lovely roads. You are fortunate, my friend. From whatever you choose to show to the world, its a great life. Ride safe buddy :)
Finally, the video I was waiting for, confirming what I thought since the presentation of the bike. The wings are USELESS on this bike and they ruin (for me at least) its design. Thanks for sharing it!
@@CaliMotoTV ok, can we say useless for the street, then? :D
downforce produced by the winglets at various speeds:
93 mph: 19.8 lb.
124 mph: 30.8 lb.
155 mph: 52.9 lb.
167 mph: 59.5 lb.
186 mph: 74.9 lb.
The bike looks great with or without winglets but with them on I fell way less winds on my legs and the front super planted, Perhaps 19.8 lb. at 93mph is noticeable? Keep them on 😉
Aerodynamic downforce is quadratic, it changes like the square of the speed, so your numbers don't add up.
There’s now two different manufacturers that make wing removal kits, one of them is Gilles and they’re around $70 anodized black. The other brand is over $200 and they come in a bunch of anodized colors. I’m going wingless when I get my Stealth SF V4S this summer. With the block off plates you could also experiment with only upper or only lower wing combos too.
Wingless except on track
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to show the bike without the wings. I am a huge fan of the old Streetfighter so maybe that is why I really like the look without wings.
Great content and insight. Thanks again.
When i first saw the bike back in October i thought that the wings were ugly. When i bought it a month ago i had already gotten used to them and loved them. I removed them as well when i fitted the radiator guards and the bike seemed odd...like something was missing. It is designed with them! So definitely keeping them
lixno - guess it would be a good place to adhere a GoPro to as like a shelf. But I cant see the logic for them, other than a novelty. No one with a brain is going to do 170 MPH on the streets to get the use out of it. Plus like CaliMoto said you’d get blown off the bike at that speed. Some clever aftermarket company should design caps for the area where they came from and make a few bucks or design maybe a half circle air deflector to the motor to help cool it. My Local dealer still hasn’t gotten one, but really want too see it in person, and hopefully get one in the Spring.
Wingless 👍🏻
I LOVE the sound. Best bike ride. Thank you for sharing my friend
I think they probably add some down force to the bike, but at what speed do they become functional. As long as the front end isn't getting light, you should be fine. I will be adding wings to my MV !
Great , but I love the winglets 💪👍 greatings from 🇨🇭
Agree with Nick only use the wings on the race track
If I ever get lucky enough to be able to get one,, I'd absolutely love it without the wings and a nice carbon fibre replacement panel,, great show case for the wingless ducati,,, from Northern Ireland greatly appreciated thank you,, radical idea ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
Aesthetically, they look great however, at slower speeds and on windy days I feel they do provide benefits. I think they clean up the air around the rider and reduce buffeting. I just rode my SFV4S ~3k miles from CO to CA on my with gusts up to 65mph. Yes, obviously you have the wind but, the buffeting was little to none. I think it may clean up the air around the rider and make it a more enjoyable ride long distance. Oh, almost forgot the SMALL fuel tank.
👍
Think F1! More wings for me. For $24k those should be carbon anyway. LOL you brought the wings along with you! Super geeky, I love it! When you ready to sell it IM me.
For $24k whole bike should b covered in carbon anyway. Ducati stingy bstards
The engine alone worth 24k, everything else is a freebie.
@@ampm9771 lol :)
I think the real test for the wings would be at the track. Luv the bike with the wings.
I think the wings add to the coolness factor, being said I can't wait for an affordable Carbon option becomes available (ARE YOU LISTENING SHIFT TECH????) .$1400 is a lot of bones for the Ducati Performance option
Leave the wings, they’re part of its identity. Sweet Ride !
Much better without, love it! 😍😍😍😍
I like it better without the wings! I see what you mean about the wings giving it that 2020 look, but who’s really gonna wanna remember 2020? On the other hand, without the wings it has a timeless and beautiful shape that looks good now and will look good 10, 20, 30 years down the road.....
I think wingless does it for me, man. It looks more classy. Didn't like the wings on the Panigale either.
That's what mr Honda said in motogp after Ducati put wings on their bikes, then the proud Honda swallowed their pride and copied it.
Wingless for me, like it clean
🤤🤤🤤 dayum that sound is mind blowing, I like the wings on the bike cuz it looks more aggressive and if you are not tracking the bike the wings are just for looks lol but is your bike and you can make look how ever you want and I bet whatever you do to it is going to look good 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
the beginning of my commute from work starts with bumper to bumper filtering. I noticed the wings are noticeable objects of concern when filtering. That's the reason I removed them.
Ducati have stated that the wings were required not only for downforce but also stability, and the wings also allowed them to keep the wheelbase shorter. did you notice any difference with regards to stability
No wings Mate, looks much better 🍻 subscribed 😊
Next time you drive past the dam throw them in looks much better without them on.
I like the wings, plus my NCR turn signals are in there.
the wings will probably protect some of the plastics if you accidentally drop it. ive been saying an aftermarket company should develop winglet crash sliders
At 80 mph on my XSR 900, im literally hanging on for dear life. The wind is madness! Oh, and keep the wings.. it just looks sick. What's next on the build??!!
the wings makes the bike look badass and that is the point of Ducati streetfighter. well Cali Moto i don't know about you but i had this bike for a week the first day it was abit scary all tha 220hp but after i got used to it that wings helped keeping the nose down. btw when we Choose Naked bike we also choose the wind experience. for the track i would always choose a Racer bike.
It looks so much better without the wings
Love the winglets😀 personally
I am sure there were a lot of research and development and the designer put them there for a reason not only for looks
Bellissima moto tutta italiana ciao da Modena 👍🏻
Looks great without the wings...
What about leaving on the lower pair of bigger wings? I'd be curious to see what that looks like.
I'd remove the wings permanently. As you said, "they're pointless on this bike, functionally". Plus, I think it looks cleaner, and that's a bonus spot to mount a camera so you can capture the forward facing view as well as the front suspension action! What's with your speckled front fender and side panel? They look like they're made of repurposed plastic. No bueno IMO
@@CaliMotoTV I don't think it's as good looking as normal carbon fiber
wingless looks awesome
Great vid. Really liked it!
Great channel, one of my favs. Seem like a super nice guy. Of course, amazing bike(s).....but dayum bro.... If I had a nickel for every time you said "uuhhh" and "ummm".
What is the Ducati wind tunnel data on the function of the wings for handling dynamics at different speeds and engine cooling , some facts rather than feel would be good ?
I also think the bike looks WAY better without the the wings. I am debating wether or not to trade my Hypermotard SP for this one. But, I will need a road test. I already made an mistake by selling my XDiavel S because of the long distance riding and the wind protection issue. It’s wiar; on the Hypermotard it’s not as noticeable that it was on the XDiavel. I love my Hypermotard but, sometimes it’s too tall for me 😂
Looks pretty good without the wings !
the main problem with the wings is they have a funny coating on them and they are a nightmare to clean..
Exactly what I was going to write, I hope Bill talks about this. Probably done on purpose so people buy the carbon fiber wings 😂
It’s like a Matte textured. Matte carbon wings will be awesome!
@@Hugo_WP i don't know for sure but i assumed that it was to do with slowing the air across the surface of the wing to create more downforce.
@@robertwotring7318 agree, but they are over £1000 from Ducati!
james botterill yea probably but what about the carbon fiber option? Will it not be smooth surface? At least they could have used the same surface as on the other plastic parts such as mudguards
Original 1098SFS is a snarling monster, but how can you up your game I don’t know but here it is...a +200bhp naked bike...Can someone do a comparison video of the old vs new SFS
Great video. Exactly what I was after.
Looks awesome either way!
I prefer it without but I prefer the panigale v4 without them too.
looking at the isle of man clips where riders are often in a wheelie at top speed, the wing works with front wheel on the tarmac...once it is past a certain point and the undersides are exposed to the wind ( as in giving lift ) could we then see a situation where the wing becomes the enemy ?
I like the wings on but if you are 50/50 about it why not try 50% of the wings... one on each side? Maybe thats your thing. I think I will try with only the lower wings. I will probobly go with both anyway since I think it looks so damn good. I would like to tilt the funktionality on thouse wings though so its easyer to wheele the bike. It's damn hard to wheelie the thing. I havent pushed it yet either since I am way below the first 100 km I need to make before I can unleach me.
Good review like it with out the wings watched a few reviews no one seems to wheelie does it lift on it own ?
Ofc you can remove the Bi-plane wings in the States. 55-75 miles / hour speed limit. Functionality of these winglets: produce additional downforce at about 150-160 miles /hour. You won't go that fast on Californian roads, won't you?
Even, only a good and knowledgable driver will notice that difference on the race track.
I have no doubts that Ducati did not put these things for fun on the SV4.
I never liked the wings to be honest, I always thought they looked cheap and gimmicky. This is a hypernaked, keep 'er naked. For the price of the bike, you'd think the wings would at least be carbon fiber or body colored out the box. Also, by comparison, I think the Ninja H2R implementation of wings looks sick, both in style and positioning. P.S. I see you got those Rizoma aluminum reservoirs I recommended. How do you like 'em?
Wings are the icing on the Cake.... I don't like it without it.
Prefer without but get what you say about it being a part of the look of this bike. As you want to keep wings, the same carbon as your other carbon bits and perhaps if the indicators were integrated in to the wings...
hello Bill, thank you for your great videos. I would like to know, if you have painted the radiator side covers in black or is it an accessory? thanks in advance .
looks like the place where they filmed the carchase of mission impossible 2. awesome bike by the way
I was thinking.. nsync made a clip with a car chase.. i think it was for bye, bye bye... by they way. Do you recommend this awesome bike. I am now watching your new vid..
@@CaliMotoTV i am 5.7 in length... do you think i am able to stand on my feet flat out...
The Pics dont do Justice. The Beast Needs to be Seen in Real. Without the Wings its incomplete.
Have you remapped the ecu after the Arrow exhaust install.........Please ...I have to know!!
Cali Moto TV Thank you!!!!!!
Hey man great video, do you know anyone that is currently selling there plastic wing set? I'd appreciate it
So I’m waiting on the v4 street fighter base because I’m telling myself I want to use the $4000 on exhaust etc. am I making the wrong choice? Is the S that much better?
Can you give me some reasons? I was just quoted $5000 more dollars after taxes over the base, that’s a chunk!
Ha8 winglets, looks so good W/O them! Looking @2018/19 V4’s because of them!!
Working against the rider to boot, why bother putting them on!! Maybe install a seat belt instead🤷♂️
If I may... how is the fueling on the V4S?? My previous XDiavel S had very poor fueling... very snatchy especially in traffic riding. Has this been improved on the V4S?? Regards!
Either way looks good - and since looks are a huge part of motorcycling it's perfectly ok to keep them or lose them. On the Panigale if you take the wings off it reveals some pretty ugly holes in the fairing. Plugs will become available after COVID but it ends up costing you MORE money to take them off. And those suckers are expensive components to begin with, even the plastic ones. At least on the SF it looks perfectly OK without any further action when you remove the winglets. I'd probably keep them...until I lay it down.
Hmmm...why are they wings on the Pani and wingLETs on the SF? 🤔
Btw I have a 2020 V4S and love it. Road only, I'll probably never get much over 150kph. Probably. But the wings are staying on. 😊
Looks better without the winglets. The only decent looking winged bike with a functional, integrated design is the Honda RR-R.
Honestly, the bike looks way better without the winglets!
@@CaliMotoTV
Sorry bro 😄 but it is subjective anyways.
I like you videos and will keep subscribed whatever your decision will be don't worry 😄
Some clever guys at Ducati with a degree in aerodynamics worked out that the wings definitely work. So I rather leave them on since that’s how the bike was designed and works best. My two cents...
If ur doing 130+ at a track day/roads👮♂️ is a naked bike what u want to be on
This bike is overkill for street ride but you still get it. So why not keep the wings.
For me keep the wings.
Wings for many reasons, no doubt.
Wasnt fan of the wings at first.. but they kinda grew on me.. but bike looks Great either way... Honestly dont think wings serve any purpose for street riders
Go hit some high speed sweepers. The most planted bike I’ve ridden at speed
Rob, can't wait to see ur bike in person. Let me know when u plan to hit 3 sisters before Dragon trip
someone should do a test on a track with wings 1 or 2 vs zero wings.
It blows your body off...lmao...oh man...I so know what you mean....At 130mph my head is molded onto the petrol tank...lol
Plus you piss me off because you make me want to get the V4S so so badly and I told myself I'd be satisfied with my rare 2019 25th Anniversario edition Monster. #132/500. LOL
Better with wings all way. Engineers design the bike with them. Go for another bike if you do not like them guys.
Good vid!
@@CaliMotoTV this video's r fucking addictive. Can't wait to see the next mod. That's gonna be hot!
I like it with then and without them lol
it is possible to remove a wing?
Looks cleaner without.
Cali Moto TV this is true, but even yourself said you enjoyed the riding more so without them. Continue to customize and make the bike your own and unique. That’s what will make it look and feel unique. Not the wings 😊
Without. 👍🏼
Take it to the track especially big willow
How was the water temp without?
Keep them off then👍
What if someone manufactures a carbon fiber air scoop?
@@CaliMotoTV to pull more air into the engine/make it look more flush look. Like a hood scoop. Just a thought.
Keep the wings!
Wings are there for a purpose. You don't believe me? ask mr Honda in motogp. First they bitched and tried to ban it on safety grounds, then they copied it. V4S is not your average 1000kg kawasaki dragster, it is actually a tamed race bike.
@@CaliMotoTV What about track days?
These wings start working at speeds way beyond legal street limits. There is a function but at high speed only.
For "normal" driving they are technically irelevant.
So keep it if you like them. Buy ones from carbon or plate the original ones in gold if you can't afford carbon.
On public roads they look silly any material they are made from.
Of course with wings
That’s the one of the reason I want to buy that bike
Wings off,wainting for the weelies
I hate those wingless on any of Ducati bikes. i love my 1299S and hate those wingless if i get V4 first thing that will go are those wingless
I have a Ducati V4 S 2019 I wanted to buy also the street fighter please do me a favor go test KTM 1290 super duke r I just got it last week The best bike ever thank you
wing - rice
wingless - nice
wings destroy the streamline of tne front part.wingless
if i can make a decent cover in the machine shop im shitcanning them.
Looks better wingless
Seriously neeeeds Carbon on these wings and for the price the front fender and rear hugger deserves carbon , too much tacky plastic , defo cool with the akro can
