- World Record Zoom - Nikon Coolpix P1000 camera. In this video I used the largest and smallest available magnification offered by the Nikon P1000 - focal length 24 - 3000mm (12000mm with digital zoom).
Is it possible to read the inscription "Can You Read This?" from a distance of 200 meters, 1km, 2.7km, 3.8km and even 5km?
Mega zoom test. No telescope or binoculars - only camera with incredible optical zoom 125x + digital zoom 4x.

This is awesome! Thanking you and your partner for taking the time to create this video. I don't have the P1000, but it sure does seem like a load of fun to own and use!
If you want to be creative and versatile, the P1000 isnt really a good choice...
- no (or at best a poor) bokeh with this type of lens and aperture possible
- just fine for daylight and outside, probably an AWESOME travel camera if you want to have ultimate zoom for every situation, but the P1000 is pretty much fked up in low light conditions
- lens quality, its selling point, the 100 or 125x zoom lens, as nice the zoom is, its quality is WEAK. Saw an in depth comparison, and for normal photos and wider angles its just fine, but pretty fast when zooming in, the image quality drops heavily (and only getting worse).
Not that i dont like this camera, in fact for some of my usecases i would LOVE IT (like birds, wildlife at all) and it would be also better than my full frame mirrorless camera with a 300mm tele lens (also more expensive than the P1000,...), but the overall performance of this camera suits only very specialized usecases at this price point like if you want superb tele capabilities but are ok with poor IQ for a "good" price.
Sadly for regular photography there is no way around any modular system if you want to play around with aperture and bokeh especially. Trust me if i tell you you can have with a 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 prime lens more fun than with a 2000$ "holy trinity" lens setup, and like this a DSLR/Mirrorless is A LOT SMALLER than any of this hyperzoom bridge cameras like the P1000

Next time do the same test but at water level. If your lady still visible, that proves that there's no curvaature! Based on earth curvature, at 5KM, on water level, she should be hidden 2m above the horizon level.
You can clearly see curvature in this video.

Becuase the nokon migjt be using some algortithm for digital zoom as well...
Maybe thats why it coildnt read past the 3.8 km mark..the digital zoom applies the algortithm to only the light sognals it receives on the sensor ..

Wish I could get my wife to get outdoor and hold a sign for me to test my zoom lens like that. For wildlife photography, 600mm is the sweet spot. The atmospheric distortion seems to be noticeable if longer than 600mm, like 800mm. P1000 is great for bird identification.

Sheeeesh! This is awesome. Around 1:40, what causes the washed out sort of look with the part of the background that was much farther than the point you focused on. I get that it's much farther away, but I don't understand why the green light of the far back trees wouldn't still appear in full color
It’s the air. Air isn‘t 100% transparent due to dust and humidity. The further away an object is the more air is between you and the object, thus making it appear in this blueish and less saturated colour
What Yannick said. The problem, including for telescopes, is that you don't just magnify the object in the distance. You also magnify the movement in the air as well. That is why there is a shimmer in the magnified image. In a very hot climate this gets so bad it can be impossible to get a clear shot on a hot day. Combine that with the density of the air plus dust and other particles in the air, and you get degradation in the magnified image. There is no practical way around this for any camera mere mortals can afford. Large scientific observatories spend millions on using laser beams to measure air movement, and then computers can control servo motors to continually adjust the telescope mirror which eliminates the shimmer, but the loss of color is combatted by filters and shooting in selective wavelengths then recombining the image later to get true color by calculating how much color was removed by the air. Hand held cameras simply cannot do any of this, and the result is what you see here.
And the bluish color of distant trees is caused by the increased amount of UV rays, because the video was shot in a mountainous area, around 1000m above sea level.

How do you even stabilize this much zoom? The stabilization is as much impressive as the zoom.

@@themintaddict2090 Despite what you may have read online, most decent tripods are good enough to support full zoom mode. Mine cost £149, but even cheaper ones should be good enough, if there isn't too much wind or sun directly in your eyes. Mine is an Arena Pro S, but I understand the Weifeng Wf-717 amongst others fit the bill.
I used the Genesis ABT Kit tripod
Camera comes with a remote too. So you don't need to touch it once it's setup in correct position.
At such a big distance, what causes the loss of image quality the most?

Hello, I just got a Nikon Coolpix P1000, one thing i've noticed that in rooms/areas where there isn't a lot of light, the LCD screen appears to be a bit 'grainy'. Is this normal in Low Light situations,or is something I should be concerned with?
and Can this problem be solved if a new Update comes up?
If you know anything about cameras you will know that its absolutely normal to get noisy in dark environments

@@blertonbakija8811 Yes, but some perform better than others. The low light performance is dependent upon how much noise there is when going high with the iso settings. Some cameras get noisy at iso 400 already, some more expensive ones keep clean until something like 3200. Try learning what your camera can do and shoot in manual mode to keep the iso low
As said by this utuber regarding the distance not near-distance, it is like telescope than a camera. So night vision is not good. For me, Telescope is ultimate in zoom lens not optic. Night vision is good with zoom optic

I was conned into buying some mini zoom binocular thing on facebook, that used a video from this camera zoom. Not only did I lose £60 and had to wait 4 weeks for delivery, but I bought the same binocular zoom thing for £9 on Amazon which arrived 2 days later...🤷🏻♂️🤑🙄

i bought this camera. it has amazing zoom and not to mention amazing image stabilization. unfortunately it has almost the same chip that your phone uses so unless you have a very nice clear sunny day you get massive amounts of noise in your pictures and your normal photos look like you shot them with a phone (knowing phones are good at pictures i would say worse than your phone) . this camera is pretty much a one-trick-pony. great for content such as this, photographing the moon once or twice and then getting shelved because it is big, unwieldy and a hassle to use ( it has no touch screen). in the end if this camera had an aps-c chip it would have been amazing. if it had touch screen it would have been fully justified to ask the higher price that chip would bring along. i ended up selling it after 3 months and getting the much nicer nikon z6 ii and a lens with some more modest capabilities.
If this camera had APS-C sensor, it's lens would be enormously big, and the price would be a couple times bigger.
@@max5250 granted. unfortunately it makes it a noisy camera and i still think it is absolutely unforgivable to not include touchfeatures on the screen when all of their other cameras have that feature. (keeping in mind this is a very expensive camera already)

Well, this camera is obviously full of compromises, and majority of price goes to the lens itself.
They could have also made faster lens (with smaller f-number) with the same sensor size, but that would also pump up the price out of the reach of average buyer.
Long and fast lenses are difficult to produce and rather expensive.
But, I agree, they could added touch sensitive screen for small fraction of price difference.
Same opinion, i am using nikon coolpix b700, i bought it with excitement few years back, but i used it few times...
Now a days mobile phones capture better photos..
Zoom is the only plus point..
I have seen a number of people talk about using it for bird watching. You bring your sharp camera and then use the p1000 as a bird field scope. Since it's value for that use.

Sensor size looks tiny even compared to a smaller cropped aps-c sensor. How would the lowlight performance be?
As a P950 user, the lowlight performance is non-existent. Just use it during the daytime or with proper lighting
The camera sensor is the same size as that of mobile phones. In low light it works very poorly :(
