Another excellent podcast guys! Maybe I can clear a couple things up - Alviso is open to anyone meaning proper pros like project echelon's Sam can show up like he did a few weeks back, to your brand new cat5. So it's hard to characterize the field, but the normal 5-10 guys that make the final selection and win each week are all either cat1 or 2. Alviso is typically hard and fast racing (just ask Chris 😅), but it's much harder to win a local norcal p/1/2 sanctioned crit, and comparing either to the national level crit scene is .... no comparison.

To your question, Remco’s is a big interview, but for any big cycling fan a long form interview with either MVDP, WVA, Pogi, Roglic, Pidcock or Jonas would be huge. Even lower tier riders like Hindley, Yates brothers, Mas, Bernal, Thomas would be great to have interviews with.

@@discbrakefan Duration’s got little to do with it. You can easily tailgun at 200-220W in a flat P12 crit. What really hurts is that Alviso can have really strong winds and sometimes small fields. With that combo, weaker riders have nowhere to hide.
@@kidsafe I disagree on the duration thing. Power numbers are only relevant for duration. It’s an endurance sport. Maybe you can deal with those crosswinds for 10-15 mins but a stronger rider can keep dishing out the power for much longer. Here a D grade (Cat 4) crit is 25-30 mins, A grade (Cat 1) crits are usually an hour. Average speeds are obviously higher up the grades but the biggest challenge moving up is usually the extra duration.
@@discbrakefan I've done and won Alviso...it mostly comes down to who shows up. If someone like Jeff's teammate Ryan shows up, he likely wins. If a bunch of people from one team show up and decide to take it super serious, then it might be extra hard that day. But what do I know, I defer to your expertise.
@@kidsafe Sure, but that’s the same thing as if numbers were low here and they combine grades. They combine down, not up. So A graders in a C grade mix doesn’t make it an A grade/Cat 1 crit. Sure those are the guys who will probably win. But in a proper A grade crit here a C grader or even B grader will get spat within 30-40 mins.
I’m with Jessie on the post ride antics an hour and half ride easily turns into 2 hours by the time you have analysed it on Strava, TP or whatever looked or posted shit on socials etc 😂
Re: ride length; maybe that time span is how long it takes to completely deplete your glycogen stores and dip heavily into the region whrre you're struggling to restock. I always find that from about that time span onward Im having to force the food down and I can really feel the difference it makes
Not really how it works. You can ride all day and not deplete your glycogen stores and keep the intensity low and the food going in. I think it’s probably more mental or nervous system fatigue.
re UK rides: First of all - these guys going on the training ride at race pace, who are equal in abilities! So yeah, they do go on aero, full aero, to rip leg off each other. I.e. this is a chaingang to verify fitness levels, to as close to real life racing as it can be, or even harder. Those guys are elite and racing on regular basis. saying this other chaingangs are treated as unofficial "racing" between mates, so yeah, you want to win it - you go all in aero, best bike, wheels, etc!
Jesse, I think you're reading into it mate. his words were..."ah, the internet says that's The One" . I think it's more of a nod to the fact that with all these new bikes, marginal gains blah blah that the people online refer to the Tarmac SL6 rim brake as the GOAT of Tarmacs. I'm on an SL7 and love it but I had an SL6 rim brake and boy...it was "the one" and if I could do it over I wouldn't have sold it.
I think the SL6 rim brake bike will be my next bike if I can find one. I live 5-7 years in the past, happily, in terms of bikes. Always buy used stuff from posers who just got the latest. I currently ride a 2017 SL4 Ultegra I paid $900 for last year, in like new condition.

i work inn a bike shop in vic and over covid we had around 5 break ins where multiple bikes were stolen and another store in our chain had someone test ride a bike and just ride off, he left a fake id. we had two e bikes stolen via a direct deposit scam where we never got the money. someone went to test ride a bike, saw a friend decided to have a coffee with them and just forgot they were test riding a bike and didnt come back for a couple of hours. sadly the reality is that bike shops cant trust everyone to test ride bikes and it simply isnt fair to just profile someone based on how they look and say nah you cant test ride this and let the next guy who might be dressed nicer to test ride a bike. weve got really strict rules in place now where we need two forms of id and some other stuff for someone to test ride anything. in the end it sucks for us and customers who are serious about buying a bike and just want to find what is best for them
in canberra i went to a store and asked if they had any 140 travel bikes to try. the staff looked at me and said to try to look at gumtree if i wanted something that cheap. I think he misheard me, thats fine. the thing with mountain bikes is that the sizing across brands is wildly inconsistent, more so if you're wedged in between sizes, so trying a bike is important. i dont look like your typical cyclist and the staff member more or less quizzed me on mtb tech before letting me try it. its a tight line to walk with some of these things. in the end i went to spend money with a shop that didn't treat me like a criminal.

Where did you guys order the Nero suit?? I want to design a jersey for my cycling club racing team🤔🙏🏼
Thanks
Oh WOW!! Thanks so much.
Think Pog interview would be good too?
Dylan Johnson loves the heart rate adjustment for altitude. Check his charts and discussion out. Validates you being toasted at altitude doing 270 heart rate
Thanks for anothe great the video. Always a pleasure to watch you guys shooting the shit.
Thanks for explaining where the name Nero came from. There was no info on the web and I assumed it had something to do with the Nero apparel company from India because Chris loves apparel. I see it has something to do with apparel but for the best thing, black cycling clothes. Cheers.

It's the quote of the episode. 😂

We're spoiled with top tier cycling here in Northern California
RE Aerosuits and aero overshoes in UK yep its a thing. Probably mainly London. A lot of folk come decked out in full aero. Not gonna lie if I could afford it I'd throw on an aerosuit simply because it feels soooo swish. 😅😁
easy way to identify knobheads/whom to avoid
Love you guys, but you need to learn the names of the World Tour teams! Soudal-Quickstep (Remco's team) is completely different from Alpecin-Deceuninck!
yeah, but I can see the confusion, because not too long ago the team in question used to be called Deceunick-Quickstep 😃
It's hard to pin down what level of racing Alviso is because there's cat 1s through cat 4/5s all racing together.
It probably comes down to the length because a Cat 3 might be able to keep up with a Cat 1 for 30 mins but an hour is a whole other story.
Topic for the next episode: what is the Endurance Etiquette 🤔
Second that, spell it out. I bet it is different all over the place.
Absolute class once again lads!🔥
I’m with Jessie on the post ride antics an hour and half ride easily turns into 2 hours by the time you have analysed it on Strava, TP or whatever looked or posted shit on socials etc 😂
Before getting to know you guys the only Nero I knew was the infamous Roman emperor.😅
What is “endurance ride” etiquette?
thanks Chris.
which waffles are the best? I like honey stinger but I haven't tried the others yet
when i see the name nero, i always think of the chain coffee shop in the UK
Agree, Jesse is way off with this. I took it as praise for the bike.
I just traded my rim brake sl6 for an SL7, did I do the wrong thing?! Maybe.
@@Stuey001 nah…you’ll love the SL7. I just wish I’d kept my SL6 as well for days when I felt nostalgic. Or really long dry summer rides…damn that bike was comfy and fast!
@@Stuey001as above, the SL7 is a good bike.
For myself though, I hung on to both my Sworks SL6 UL rim and my SL6 expert rim winter bike, X # of seconds over 40km wasn't tempting enough to trade 'up' and the comfort of the SL6 platform is 👌 for me.
@@ljmeyerlj am loving the SL7 tbh. The sl6 was amazing. I’m a bigger guy so wanted the disc brakes and always fancied the SL7 so traded up when I had the chance of a decent deal
I took from the alex dowsett video that they all kinda understood that it isnt the bike that makes the rider. While he was chatting with the u23 team GB rider they hinted towards that.
Could the bike shops put a tracking tag on the bike??
Who makes the Jerseys. Would love to check out their services..
When you referred to "Tyler" in Fresno, I had to look up "Vegan Cyclist"''s real name - sure enough, Tyler. At first, I thought you (Chris) were referring to Tyler Hamilton, who I think also lives in the Fresno, Ca., area.
Oh I didn’t know TM lived here as well. Know that would be an interesting riding group 😁
Great show guys 👌
Potentially could there be a drop style jersey? Preorder for a period then those who want are guaranteed without surplus?
Get more jerseys, they go instantly.
You guy’s are more popular than you think ❤
Not Tour of Norway, but Arctic Race of Norway. Two different races. One in the north and the other in the south.
I'd Be hyped if pogacar do long form interview
Good chats🎉
Will there be Nero bibs and gloves? Next
It was interesting hearing the history of where Nero came from.
It’s all in the older videos on this channel. There’s some great content.
Come to Brazil!
i work inn a bike shop in vic and over covid we had around 5 break ins where multiple bikes were stolen and another store in our chain had someone test ride a bike and just ride off, he left a fake id. we had two e bikes stolen via a direct deposit scam where we never got the money. someone went to test ride a bike, saw a friend decided to have a coffee with them and just forgot they were test riding a bike and didnt come back for a couple of hours. sadly the reality is that bike shops cant trust everyone to test ride bikes and it simply isnt fair to just profile someone based on how they look and say nah you cant test ride this and let the next guy who might be dressed nicer to test ride a bike. weve got really strict rules in place now where we need two forms of id and some other stuff for someone to test ride anything. in the end it sucks for us and customers who are serious about buying a bike and just want to find what is best for them
in canberra i went to a store and asked if they had any 140 travel bikes to try. the staff looked at me and said to try to look at gumtree if i wanted something that cheap.
Welcome to America 😂
