I have realized both Fortitude and Sok went Mountain King first vs Night Elf, while Sok almost always goes Archmage first vs Undead, which I find weird, because MK can get constantly manaburned by Demon Hunter, whereas it would be an amazing counter, imo, against a Lich, MK I mean. I know they are the pros and I am not even playing the game, but going MK 1st vs UD and not vs NE seems intuitive to me.
Both have used MK first vs UD. It's not that uncommon, MK first turtle to double workshop and gryphons is a meta strat still. The trouble is UD hero nuking is too strong and blood mage will get rekt since it's lower level and the early game creeping vs UD is too hard if you go MK first. If you turtle really hard a good player like Happy will simply punish you by creeping the entire map, and high level UD heroes will be impossible to deal with.
SPOILER ALERT Is it really a spoiler at this point. Fortitude played to lose. Never give up the map for a fast expansion. Alchemist instead of Paladin who is next to useless. Rangers instead of footmen and fewer knights. Dryad kiting kept the knights at bay.
I really don't get the Alchemist vs paladin debate. Alchemist heal is half that of a paladin and it works vs all units (including enemies). Good luck trying to save your melee mountain king with Alchemist or the bloodmage with both demon & panda on top of him. Rifleman also aren't very good vs that army. It's basically free experience for the night elf heroes as they really need casters to help protect them. That's why paladin/ rifle strat was a thing... on their own they just don't have the survivability as they are quite slow & provide no enemy debuff to help them kite. Rifle/casters (priests/source/breakers) with Archmage/Mk/Naga used to be a thing back in the day but since fast expansion took over it's just not used as much. It's really more of a one base/two heroes strat. All in all human did a good job keeping up with the hero lvls but once again it's very hard to beat panda/demon at 6. Dryads might of looked like the mvp here, but it was really the staff/moonwells that allowed him to stall till 6 that secured it for night elf.
Moon = masterdriade slayer knights ... fantastic and stress micro!
Cool game
