I love walking and have had reoccurring stress fractures in both feet over the years; finally found out that(for me) wearing a firm back support while walking improved my gait; and I have not incurred any new stress fractures in the last 8 years thank you I love how you marked locations on the outside of your foot for easy comparisons with locations on the X-ray so helpful; thank you so much!

Very good video! I had hard custom orthotics made to replace old ones...they came back with very high arches...and had stress fractures on both feet...one after the other! Doc poo-pooed that idea but I found a discussion about this!! It happens! Boot then regular shoes, about 6 weeks to heal. Made a higher level shoe for the other foot to help keep my body aligned. Used a wheelchair with elevator attachment to get around house and speed healing!
Recently, having a bout of tendon issues top of the foot...no evidence of bleeding but sore tissues in between 3 and 4 as well some swelling top of the foot. Put a boot on but pain continues...with fracture the boot relieved pain instantly unlime this issue.

Ok So I was literally in the middle of a run, and my foot started having sharp pain. Could barely walk, and had to limp home. Had bruising on the top of my foot around 2 & 3. Bruising is gone, still slightly swollen after a week, still feel pain. I have always been running though so this isnt a too much too soon thing. Do I have a stress fracture, or did i just break a blood vessel, and have exterior tendonitis or whatever its called?

Great explanation and unfortunately I think I have a stress fracture on my 5th metatarsal. Great suggestions with the cycling and swimming, I was surprised to rediscover cycling was actually stressing the knees a bit but sparing the foot! It seems to be all about patience now, I waited it out a week, but it wasn't enough, have to start all over now. Very nasty little injury, but thanks for the video doc, very helpful!

My pain is above the 2-3 metatarsals closer to the ankle. I’m wearing a boot now but my pain with out it is 8-9 when I walk on it. X rays didn’t show any fractures. But oh the pain! I used to walk 3-4 miles every day. My shoe was causing me to supinate, so I threw them out and bought Brooks shoes.

Had the a bit of pain but didn't find out till 4 weeks later that it was stress fracture. Got air boot but still had weight on and on second week of boots pain kept coming. 2 weeks ago finally got fibreglass cast put on and for 4 weeks now I've been in severe pain. Throbbing, burning, sharp, pins and noddles, electric shocks, strapping pain. But at night its more worst. Is that what people go through with stress fracture? I think I feel pain in the 4th and 5th metatarsal when I palpate. When I walk, it hurts on the lateral aspect. This occurred after ONE run in a pair of Nikes (I usually wear ascics), my mistake. 😔 It doesn’t make sense to me. Side note: my vitamin D levels are 60-80.

I know this is a tall order but could I send it to you to have a quick look . I’ve seen an orthopedic doctor but to be honest am not confident . I’m a nurse myself . Thank you Roisin

Really helpful thank you. My 3rd shaft metatarsal healing stress fracture was identified on an xray and i wasnt sure if i should be wearing a cam boot. GP said not but got stiff footwear! Hadnt realised it was painful because i have mortons neuroma. Not sure how i got a stress fracture but banged my foot badly and i am doing extra milage with rambling and more steep hills! i originally had an xray because i have pain on my big toe from stubbing it on stairs 3 years ago but nothing on xray with that

My CT scan showed a chip fracture on the "superior anterior part of the medial cuneiform", which I think is somewhere near the bump on the top of the foot near the first big toe. It does not show on the Xray, only on CT scan. The Doc said that when my foot is in a cast, the chip fracture would heal and re-fuse with the main foot's bone, so no intervention is needed. I don't quite understand, if a chip has broken off how can it find its way back to the proper position on the foot?

Please help me!! When i do this exercise i don’t feel any pain, and when i jump on my foot i don’t feel any pain. when i run about 6 meters my foot starts hurting on the top in the 3, 4, 5 area. i can feel the pain 30-60 minutes after then it stops. i just finished resting my leg because i had a tibia stress fracture, so i didn’t put any excessive force on it. About 2 weeks ago i ran about 12 meters barefoot on concrete. Directly after i stopped running i realized the top of my foot hurt, so i was walking on it weird for about 2 days. Now every-time i jog a short distance it starts hurting! I’m not sure if it’s just a strain or it’s a fracture. Do you have any ideas of what this could possibly be?

Thanks for all of the videos. I believe I have a stress fracture in the second metatarsal. I was unable to move my foot at all for two weeks. After, I was placed in a boot for a few days, I was then able to move my foot. The pain is constant and was at a 10 and now at a 5 but is constant. I had an x-ray and nerve test that did not show anything. My pediatrist does not know what the issue is and stated it may be my back. I have had no back issues. This issue is now into the fourth week. Any suggestions? Thanks!

If reasonable, we would appreciate a quick rating from you, and a good rating makes a MASSIVE difference for us!

I stepped on a stone with my heel with slippers on. The moment I stood on the stone it hurted very badly. 4 months later the same spot still hurts. I can walk on it because that point is more at the outer side of my heel. Could it be a stressfracture? Got a RX and nothing to see on it. Waiting for a Mri.

Unfortunately we have to let you know how important it is to see your podiatrist in person to get a more detailed response.
There are just so many variables and risks for giving information without a proper physical exam in person.
Good luck and we hope you feel better soon. We really appreciate you as a fan.

May 2019 - I had a right toe fusion - not sure if that is the reason why I’m in so much pain. It’s affected my gait. I limp and my quality of life has changed drastically. As a result, I also have inflammation on my right knee as well as my right foot. I’ve had injections, right knee arthroscopy and my foot and knee are swollen. I’ve purchased expensive shoes. I’m currently seeing a podiatrist. He states I do not have a stress fracture. I have orthotics but I’m still in pain. My orthopedic doctor says I have severe arthritis on my knee - is it possible that I have arthritis on my right foot? I take Aleve for inflammation. Feeling discouraged wondering if I’ll ever have my foot back!
