You just helped me so much. I have a more severe avulsion fracture and my podiatrist didnt want me in a cast or boot because i am non-weight bearing for at least 6 weeks. At my 2 week appointment yesterday the Dr told me that the gap in my fracture looked wider and acused me of walking on it, which i have not. This taping is helping me keep my foot in the proper position while im moving around in crutches. Thank you so much for sharing this information.

I had metatarsal fractures and an avulsion fracture on the medial cuneiform and the hospital emergency started me in a CAM boot, then later the doc moved me to a fiberglass cast. The pressure and weight of the cast causes a lot of problems of stiffening the muscles and soft tissues ankle and foot and inflammation because the patient cannot remove it to apply ice. Also if the cast technician doesn't align your foot properly or applies the cast too tight, it can injure your ankle and foot. It is better with a boot if you decide you need the support while healing.
I keep the short Aircast and CAM boot around in case I ever need them again. It actually takes more than 6 weeks for fractures to fully heal, probably 5-12 months.

Thank you for teaching the mechanism and the technique of application of the tape ( I use KT pro instead ) .I am having similar injury from a twist of the foot while walking down stairs. The taping is very useful in keeping a proper alignment after the injury and it's a comfortable support.

May I kindly ask and get a clear answer whether I should move my foot or keep it still? Why is there no information about it? I have avulsion fracture - anterior process of calcaneus, if it’s fractured am I supposed to For example do circles with that foot or just keep it still? Please reply, I’m just out of my mind. 3rd week and my foot is still bruised…

A little late but you are supposed to keep it still for about 6-8 weeks so the gap in the cracked bone does not widen. Then have a followup x-rays with your doc to see if it is growing bone to close up the crack.

What type of tape r u using for this? It looks stiffer than K- tape which makes sense when immobilization is preferred in cases like this where u need more stable and splinting kind of tape as opposed to just compressive dynamic tape that allows too much movement..
What tape is best to help splint an area like this while healing to protect the joint and articulating structures?

How long does it takes her to walk without the taping? And when could she starts to run? How many steps does she per day with the taping? Is it possible to walk normal? What kind of movements are to avoid and how long?

I am a 79 year old female with this issue.I taped it using silk tape which works but than noticed injury to my skin after removing. I have tried ace wrap, etc.but does not work as good as taping.

Use some hypoallergic underwrap for the skin!

I have a 5th metatarsal tuberosity avulsion fracture and a lateral, partial plantar tear. No surgery, but 4-6 weeks in a walking boot. Pain hasn't gotten any better. Would a cast be a better option?😢😢😢

If the pain is not better perhaps seek a surgical assessment

Is this just a model? If this is a patient, please be gentle!!! This makes me want to cancel my consults right now. The gentlest touch hurts in many ways and the thought of that sharp pain happening makes me afraid ill kick the next dr that pushes firmly and rubs unnecesarily on my foot. If you havent had this yourself i can see it not registering just how stressful it is for someone touching your foot. But i just had to address this for the next patient!

The pain you are going to feel during control is the swelling pressuring on the nerves
