Yaesu G-5500 Ground Rail Fault & Better Voltage Drop Fix

- Adam's Yaesu G-5500 stopped working :-(
Meter lamps came on, but non responsive otherwise.
An open circuit diode was found, D3, so no 0V GND rail existed.
Easy to find using an ordinary DMM.
A better method of eliminating the voltage drop problem across R10 20 ohm 5W resistor (that feeds +12V to the External Control connector) was suggested by Mike, WB8CXO, and implemented.
This involves removing R10 (20 ohm 5W WW resistor) and replacing it with a resettable fuse.
No voltage drop issues, and still with short circuit protection on the 12V feed to the External Controller connector.

Hi Adam, thanks for the kudos! Do you have a part number for the resettable fuses? 73, Mike
Hi Adam, only just found your channel and I'm loving the content, thank you! Chris - VK4CGO
Flux on the SoderWick, great hint! :)
The flux significantly helps the wicking ability of the SoLderwick Rick, and there is less risk of the pad/tracks delamination from the substrate.
also great for the times when you have no wick but miles of cheap coax for the outer braid
Hello Adam. I’m purchasing a G-5500 but next summer moving to the Philippines. Their voltage is 220 there. I called Yaesu and they would not provide me a schematic of the controller or share process so I could convert. Would you be able to advise on the wiring mod from 120 to 220 or tell me how to obtain a schematic? Thanks in advance.
Good afternoon. Just wonder if you’re still trying to correct the 120-220v situation
