  • I purchased this rotator not working, I was told it did not work properly from when it was unpacked. So in this video I strip the rotator down & check out why it did not work properly. I repair & do a few small upgrades to it.
Also in this video we also look @ the DXA controller I purchased as New unused, that is going to control the G-1000 rotator. I did a few small upgrades to the controller as well.

Job well done, all that trouble because of a plate bent and put on the wrong way. Currently have my rotator in bits as I watch this Vid but is nothing wrong with mine I am just a curious Ham that cant help taking things apart to see what goes on inside LOL. Found this most interesting and gave me a much more deeper undertanding of what was going on inside the rotator. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the reply, The plate was not the main problem, that happened after when someone put it back together, WRONGLY.
The main problem that started this whole process, was the BK butterfly being loose on the motor shaft, which is the main problem that happens to these rotators.

@@duoro-rotators It is good to know some of the main problems that go wrong with these rotators and certainly helps problem solving. Good job!

Would be good to see a video of the actual reassembly. strip down is easy but the rebuild would be good to see.

Thanks for the comment. Since this is my business & how I make my living, sorry I can not show all of the work that I do. That is what the customer would normally be paying for.

Is the spring required on the butterfly? I think this is my problem. Unit will rotate perfectly in the CCW direction; but not CW. Works fine without the spring. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Great video(s), too!

Hi Perry, Thank you for the comment. The BK spring is part of the brake system & a MUST for the brake to work, without it you will have very low Brake Torque if any @ all. Please get in contact with me via my web site (which is in the description on the video) for more information.

I had a problem after installing my G-1000 brake it would rotate by hand CCW and CW but would not rotate 360 deg. I finally got it right.
I had to losen the rotor motor screws mount and realinged the thep nylon gear on the rotor shaft and it would now rotate freely. I thghtened up the motor mount screws. all good now. I also had to secure the set screw on the metal part that rotates inside the brake to the motor shaft which was loose. I previously for your help but will not need it..
I would like you to do a detail demonstaation on video removing the brake and replacing the brake in detail for G-1000 rotor. N5KIR Ray

when putting back together how do you clock it or time it????

Hi Dave, Thank you for the comment. I guess you mean the alignment of the rotator. Sorry that is my job & how I make my living in this ever shrinking industry. Hence why I do not show that part of the reassembly. I get it that people want to do things them self. I have been working on rotators for years & taught me self how to work on these rotator. Problem with these rotator is if you don't align it properly you will do damage to the POT &/or it gearing etc. Regards Peter of Duoro services

Hello there from California!!! I know this is off topic, im in a dilemma about my g450a, the trouble is when i try to activate and turn the rotator there is significant delay on the turning of the rotator, i have to push the forward and reverse controls of the controller a few times for rotator to start to turn. Maybe you can give me some ideas whats wrong with it. 9:50

Hi Norman, It is not off topic, as we a talking about Yaesu Rotators & the 450A most likely has the same problem as the G-1000 did in this video, as the utilise the same BK brake system. Yes there could be other problems, but the only way to find out 100% is to get it on the work bench & strip it down. For more detailed info please get in contact with me via my web site which is listed in the description. Peter

What grease do you recommend for COLD Canadian winters?

    • @duoro-rotators
      @duoro-rotators  Год назад +1

Hi Douglas Thanks for the enquiry.
Being in Australia, I normally use Molybdenum Disulfide grease however it's temp range is only -18°C to 316°C (0°F to 600°F) which @ a guess in NOT a lower enough temp range for Canada.
You will have to find a grease locally that has lower temp rating.
The main requirement for grease in a rotator are :- NOT to heavy, thick, sticky or stringy as these greases will have a binding up affect on the gears etc which puts a lot of load onto the small AC or DC motor causing other problems.
