      glossy screens let the light from the screen through more clearly. Any reflections will be strong but not spread out. With a matte screen you loose image contrast a bit but remove strong reflections by spreading out the reflected light. At some point a lot of electronics started using glossy screens as a plus, an added feature. Since then, matted screens have had to have a bit of a comeback into popularity even though they are great in many uses.

    • @woooweee
      @woooweee 4 года назад

      @@0ooTheMAXXoo0 Its nice in theory, but even for computing at home I eventually got annoyed at the glossy reflection on computer monitors. Very noticeable with mutliple monitor setups, eventually I just got all matte and don't miss the gloss, there are different grades for everything, not just panels but the type of matte coating or finish. Seeing only the image is its own type of quality.

      Eh I have an e-tron and the black glossy panels aren't a problem. I haven't had any issues and they are extremely easy to clean to get rid of the few smudges that come up.

    Bjørn’s test are spot on. I own the 50 model as well which is considered to be the most efficient and the real world range is far less than what is stated. I cannot see how any other sportback with all the other features can have a better range. That being said, I still love it.

    I really want to see a test of the Long Range Plus Model S with its 400+ mile rated range.

    No one seams to mention that the reason the Sportback is more efficient is perhaps not only the aerodynamics, but changes to the drivetrain.
    As far as I read during the launch, it has a clutch on the front motor/axel, so that it can free roll better. It needs that due to the permanent magnet motors. Plus less buffer on the battery and other minor drive train changes. These changes should now also be available for the regular E-Tron when ordered now.
    Can anyone else confirm this?

    • @JPetr94
      @JPetr94 4 года назад +2

      The etron doesn't have permanent magnet motors and clutches, check self study program.

    • @danieleriksson8685
      @danieleriksson8685 4 года назад +2

      Yes you are correct. It's the I-Pace which har permanent magnet motors.
      But it looks like there is a change that it can now completely disengage the front motor and only use back. Perhaps electronically then.

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  4 года назад +3

      I don't think drivedrain optimizations helped much. The better aerodynamics and lower weight corresponds with the lower consumption vs regular e-tron 55. If they did improve something, the consumption should be lower than EQC (around 180-190 Wh/km).

    • @danieleriksson8685
      @danieleriksson8685 4 года назад

      Yes you are probably right, since your test showed increased efficiency in higher speed.
      This was written at the time of the Sportback launch and got me wondering:
      "Audi was able to improve the range by increasing the net battery capacity. It also decoupled the front motor and improved the thermal management."

    As far as I know, you have never tested the «regular» e-tron 50 in summer time and dry roads..? I hope you will consider to do so, because it’s kind of none sense to compare the sportback with the regular when tested in different seasons. (The regular 55 has been tested in summer, but not the 50)

    • @EruIluuvatar
      @EruIluuvatar 4 года назад

      Standard and sport back actually have very similar consumption.
      The back changes close to nothing. Cx is 0.25 for the SB vs 0.28.
      Even WLTP figures don't aim for more than 1-2% consumption improvement.

  • @siraff4461
    @siraff4461 4 года назад +2

    I don't get all the comments about "its not efficient enough".
    You have to realise its easy to make something efficient if you don't care about ride quality, all weather and condition grip, interior quality, build quality, materials quality, looks, practicality and all the rest.
    This isn't meant to be some ultra eco car. This is meant to be a nice car. If you want to sit in a thrown together tin can full of thin plastic interior which looks like a blob to save a few electrons thats fine but look at the cars around you next time you're on the road and ask yourself how many normal people are going to put up with paying a lot of money for a poor experience just to save a small amount of energy.
    Comparing this to an MG? Come on - thats a smaller, fwd car with nothing like the looks, build or interior and not even close to half the power.
    Do we want more ev's altogether or do we only want ev's to replace sh1tboxes?

    Hello BJorn, thank you very much for these videos that help you have an idea to be able to have an EV as only car. Very good challenge or road trip but it would be very interesting if you could simulate as if there were 4 or 5 occupants with their luggage to be a real situation that can happen any weekend, for weight, consumption and performance. This would also better test efficiency and because some cars are so thirsty, since the E-Tron or e208, for example, perhaps distributed or absorbed the extra weight and the figures would be similar to the test you perform. Like banana box but with sacks with weight. It's the only proof I think your videos would be missing.

    Okay, it consumes a lot but as a car it's better than a new Tesla of 2020, maybe if software disabled the front or rear engine and only reactivated if necessary, it wouldn't consume that much. It's totally logical because Tesla is an expert in electrical technology and Audi in making cars. The E-Tron in electric technology is like your Millenium Falcon. The new E-Tron S version improves, since only the second generation rear engines and the 1fsrt generation front. How would a Model X have been with the Millenium Falcon technology? You say Optimus also consumes by the shape of the car. How much is a Tesla's gross battery? model S Performance 100kW net and gross? That is why Audi's advantage, and similar manufacturers, is funding and change services or you're definitely keeping it at 2 or 3 years, very important. Tesla technology has a pretty good advantage, but in 2021-22, he won't be carrying that much. One example is Kia/Hyundai.

      This is good for a city car - except an SUV for the city is a nonsense. On the road, 300 km at crawl speed and then 45 minutes to charge up at a fast charger is totally useless. On a 1000 kms trip, you’d take upwards of 14 hours, where an ICE or hybrid will do the same in less than 10 at 120 km/h. EVs are already now the best for the city but they have a long way to go before they’re competitive on the road. These interesting real-world tests only show how far we are from where EV’s need to be. Looks like I won’t upgrade from my original Tesla Roadster - which I use almost exclusively in town - any time soon, and will continue using an hybrid for the road. A pity since I can’t wait for the time where I’ll be able to drive anywhere at the speed, reactivity, silence and comfort only EV’s offer.
      And before anyone says Model S Raven, just look at them hugging the right lane in between trucks on the highway. they simply can’t sustain normal European highway speeds for much more than the feeble German attempts as they’re programmed to impress your friends in the parking lane and then crawl at what passes for speed on the congested mess that is Californian roads.
      The question is whether we are 3, 5 or 10 years away from EV’s being competitive on European roads.

    Saying that it's the most effecient E-Tron is like saying the highest mountain in Iowa.

    As expected the Sportback has much better consumption than the fat rear of the 55.
    It's strange how Norway can get their road projects done faster when there are less people around due to Covid. Here work stops or is barely being done. Just recently they started new projects. America I mean this virus was made for people who don't care about others but outside where workers are already spaced apart.... anyway.

    Less range than significantly cheaper cars like Ampera-E, Kona, Niro, Soul ...

    If you are follow your golden rule ( 80% til 15% ) the range is very bad.

      In e-tron you can go 10-90 % at least. Going to 100 % is still too slow.

      Btw, Audi ate up the buffer lately. So the top buffer is smaller than before. Charging to 100 % is slower than before.

      I think he revered to the battery technology. And he is probably right, the e-tron are better at charging then the teslas. If you want good charging speed in a tesla you have to arrive with pretty low state of charge und the speed will drop quite early, while in a e-tron it doesn't matter that much.

      Why? The one with bigger battery will probably have really similar real world range to Model X, but charges much faster (not peak, but average speed), build quality is much better on Audi and only thing that Tesla has is their autopilot for which I for example totally dont care.

      @@kleincamper exactly, like Model 3 is pretty good there even with average speed, but X and S are way worse.
