Der Test ist so geilo!!!
G E I L O M A T
Geilo i Helga! (Norwegian: Geilo in the weekend)
Thank you for this review that has helped to convince me to go for the 50 rather than 55. It's not just about being able to afford the extra it's also whether you NEED the extra. I will maybe do 2 journeys per year that the 50 won't be able to do without stopping to charge somewhere. If I don't need an extra 24kWh of battery then why waste it.
You actually had a hydro power plant just 30 meters in front of the car at Hagafoss; not often the electricity is produced that close to the charger ;) (I grew up in that area)
No burger ?
That is culinary torture!
We feel you, Bjorn.
All the 🇩🇪 people be like "geilo?!"😂
Norwegians often say: "La oss dra til Geilo i Helga!"
There is no Autobahn in Gelio
Jaaaaa :D
Bjørn click baited the germans... it worked on me at least.
but i am not disappoited, those Audi jokes were mega geilo!
it actually works. Also BMWs have this feature, but i think it's hidden in the glovebox or so
The blinker for Audi is now found. So next we can watch out for the Yeti.
😅 Pizza not too bad after all. I'm sure I speak for most fans, we appreciate all you do with your testing of all EV's. I personally have learned so much from watching your channel. By the mid year, I will know which EV to get, plus the familiarity of all the EV's you tested will make getting the right one much easier to do. 👍
Which one did you get and are you happy with it?
@@bart170 Tesla Model Y. And have been loving it.
@@smr32061 good choice. I bet you can have that car for 10 years and be happy. People these days get too upset with tiny flaws. The difference in everyday luxury we regular citizens enjoy compared to what our former generations endured is shocking.
Like the brace of matching white Tesla Model S at 21:40 - this would still be an exceedingly rare sight in the UK!
Nice Audi jokes 😆 So true
Don't forget. Audi has built in right of way. We Germans know it.
Excellent foot-clapping style at 10:20 to get the snowy schmutz off your feet 😊
Björn, it‘s always so funny when you randomly use the german words!
Turnsignal in Audi... Fake News. 😂
Last week, I had an Audi in front of me going from the left-most lane to the exit lane, crossing 4 lanes... No blinkers used. 🤦♂️
I think the turn signals only look like they work on the dashboard. I've never seen them light up on an Audi
I paid 2000€ for the led running light turn signals. Of course I'm using them in my audi.
You are very funny! The indicator / turning signal joke!
Good to see you go to Geilo again.
I did enjoy this video! Thank you Bjorn!
Love people understanding good proper German doors. BTW, the e-208 almost has the smooth Audi doors😁
Thanks Bjørn, you really spoils us with videos out so often. I hope many Audi drivers watch it as there are awesome information here, to many it must come as a surprise that even they did not buy the most expensive package they most likely have got the turn signals for free ! Yes, all Audi fanboys, out on the road and test it, awesome !
When I saw the truck at 2:40 on the side of the road I thought you will pull it out, like an Audi guy. :D
Audi drivers never stop, unless if there is a body in the middle of the road. Then they have to stop, but without using the 4 blinkers.
15:29 the first time I see a rollator on skis!
Called sparkstøtting or spark, translate to " kick-support" or "kicker". It has a seat also, so 2 travels ok! Can go fast!
I think it also has soft close, depending on the trim
6:10 Ah yes the blinkers.....since it is an electric feature Audi put it standard on the E-tron cars......on ICE-Audis it is a (rather expensive) option so almost no1 took it.......
Das Auto moments:

I know this is late to ask but on your review you showed the battery level at 21% I was wondering if you ever adjusted the charger target to 100% for long distances travel before you started to charge the car when you made this review? By the way I enjoy your reviews!!!
For a car starting at ~70k €, this sort of range is just completely unacceptable in 2020.
For that money, yes! But, it seems that price is starting at 50k, so thats a really good price for a city Suv...
it starts at around 50k, at least in Norway it does (not sure about other countries)
@@DG-uv3zw It's 69k here in Germany, according to Audi's web site, not including the mandatory delivery fee or any optional extras: imgur.com/fMgIRd4
In The Netherlands, a souped up Launch Edition starts at 71k €
@@RoaldHemel35 yes, in many countries its 70k+ and that's not a great deal... 50k is really tempting for people that drive up to 15-20k km per year and have money of course :)
As allways very god test!👍 You are so "normal" and funny to watch! Hope you can do the same test with Polestar 2 and MG ZS ev when you get one to test👍
600km elevation. I think you need a Tesla Roadster for that ;)
Turn signals as a special add-on ! 🤣
Damn and blast no Chinese.
Good pizza eating Bjorn. Bring back the old days but with EV cars
Old school is cool school.
18:10 maybe it didn't preheat due to a fault because:
- you came back too early (13h38 on the car clock, you asked for 13h40)
- entered/turned on the car when it's about to kick in might just cancel scheduled heating
The time set is not when the heater should start, it's your expected departure time.
TheSweMusicMan is right. The heater usually starts 30 minutes before departure time. And no, entering a car right before it will start should not cancel heating. That's not Vorsprung.
guys I know it was the departure date 😉 but Audi says preheating will run for a max of 30mn... including 10mn after departure time, that doesn't equal to 30mn before your departure.
maybe it's uber efficient and just need 30s at the temp/conditions you had 🤒
last Etron I had was so unpredictable

Hello! What whould you choose i4-40 or e tron 50??? More less the same money - but only range matters
Is that tractor trailer at 02:42 accidentally off the road? Did it slide off, i wonder? It does not look like it is parked.
Very useful video. How about the supposedly stronger regen on this one, did you feel it @Bjørn Nyland?
It Will be interesting to see e-tron sportback 55
Hi Bjorn, i very much appreciate your opinion. I am lucky to drive a TM3 for 1 year. Today, I had a test drive on Audi e-tron 55, and the seller said that when parking the car in cold weather, 1 week ski vacation for example, you need to plug the car, or it would be drained empty. I doubt very much. What do you think from your cold country experience?
When you drive slower. Your heater and other power draws are on for a longer time/ same distance. this will use more power
Heater is insignificant compared to drag.
1:46 doorgasm. 😂😂😂
I've never considered owning an Audi. Hmmm, seems like it could replace the trusty RAV4 AWD. Range isn't the greatest, but it is probably good enough for a winter time Yosemite tour if I juice it up during breakfast time in Oakhurst.
Distance it keeps, also depend on speed, higher speed, greater distance it keeps even on closest distance setting
You didn't get the joke, did you? ;)
@@bjornnyland maybe he is new :D
I have the Audi 1 sec distance build into my foot 😉
I switched my VPN to Germany and I don't regret it
"Short memory" is a cool song by Midnight Oil! Look it up. Remember Dieselgate!
Seems to be a better buy than the full spec e-Tron. Why pay for that expensive and heavy battery when you don't need it? I wish Jaguar would do the same with the iPace and sell a striped-down version.
Any possibility of a LEAF Plus Geilo trip?
Nice, is this the basic or sport model e-tron?
It is a very good looking car though, despite range, trim etc
Does “A Better Route Planner” know how to plan for this car? Does it give a good prediction? That web site does a great job for my Tesla Model 3.
Only the 50 variant is available in my country. Do a range test if u drive a little faster like 120-140. How much range will u get in that case. Also do you think the lbatteries life will last for a long time?
That is close to the average speed he drove at the 1000km challenge, the maximum highway speed in Sweden is 130 km/h......u can check there what he used between 2 charge-stops and then calculate what the maximum range would be....
I was thinking you say vrijdag, saturday and sunday testing the new ioniq. Or is that next week ?
Bjorn, any chance you can give us the price of each top up as well, that would be great for those of us thinking of buying electric. Keep up the good work 😊👍🇬🇧🇬🇧

Shiiiiet 😄
In a steep downhill will an EV automatically maintain the speed without using the brakes? Perhaps even re-charge? I Norway you have quite steep hills inside tunnels/mountains, I remember a few with 10%, perhaps even more and it is really hard to drive an normal diesel car without using the brakes.
Yes
heat didn't work cause you set it to start at 13:40, and it wasn't there yet.
No. The time set, is not when the heater should start, it's your expected departure time.
If you will start driving at around 13:40, you just set it to that time, and the car will take
care of the rest ( if it works as intended. This time it gave an general error message though )
@R No, it doesn't . It works the same way as many modern cars with petrol and diesel - heaters.
How long it will run depends on outside and cabin - temperature.
From the e-tron manual:
" Immediate start
You can immediately switch the auxiliary climate control on and off using the l button. When this function is switched on, a colored bar lights up over the button and the remaining time is displayed.
The auxiliary climate control will run for a maximum of 30 minutes after the immediate start.
Timer programming
You can set up to two timers for the departure time. Each one of the timers can be activated.
► Select one timer.
► Set the date and select Next.
► Set the time (departure time) and select OK.
► Activate the timer with m .
By setting the departure time, you determine when your vehicle should reach the desired temperature. The departure time can be a maximum of six days in the future. The auxiliary climate control will continue to run approximately ten minutes after the departure time is reached "
TheSweMusicMan is right. In all EVs, you set a departure time. Heater will usually start 30 minutes before.
The heating didnt start because you set it up for 13:40 and it was 13:38 when you checked it
The time you set it for is the time you want the car to be warm. Heating will usually start 15-30 minutes before.
@@bjornnyland Oh ok, I though its when it starts, maybe Audi though too :D
How long will this trip take in the e-tron 50 during Easter or winter vacation when everyone else is also on their way up the mountains? How long are the charging queues?
No charging needed then because it will be slow due to traffic.
Elevation absolutely kills Enron range. Downhill recup is amazing though.
Makes sense. Thats because its heavy.
I think the problem these premium offerings have is they simply cannot be short on range. It's like selling a big fat German soggy SUV with such a small tank that it only goes 200 miles between fills of fossil. It can have the best hifi, the most comfortable seats, dashboard made from Unicorn horns - the range will put people off.
Even worse as fuel is quick to fill up. I agree. These types of cars need real good range, otherwise I don't see the point. With all the money in the world and I could pick one EV, it would be the one with the best range and best charging network - aka the S100D or the M3 LR AWD :)
Hello Bjørn. Have you tested also e-Niro?
Help me to choose between Model3, E-Niro and Kona.
I have 2 kids and we go out of Dk every summer. Which one of this 3 cars that I mention it's the best considering car price, km per kwh and waste of time at the charger?
Yes, check my RUclips channel.
Ragarding speed vs consumption. When I drive only to work in our Leaf 2, which is 70% motorway (running @110km/h) the avg consumption goes down. But when we only drive on mostly 50-70km roads the consumption gets higher which puzzles me...
50-70km roads usually are more curvy or have more elevation changes.....
I thought Chinese restaurant serve cat. I know here in Tennessee they have been caught with cats in freezer several times. I don’t care if they taste good and don’t charge much.
Audi e-tron 55 or Mercedes EQB ???
I hate adaptive cruise controls and ordered my Audi with constant cruise control. I'm not driving close behind though, I pass!
Still can’t get over this ionity shiiiiiit
Does not really affect you in an Audi - lower pricing through e-tron charging service
Audi Driven but they really screwed over Tesla owners
They don't want Model 3 to charge there. German auto lobby attacking Tesla again...
Fritz Storp not if they use a charging canard from a roaming partner. Those 79 Eurocent only apply if you pay directly via Ionity
What about a test A/C on, A/C off? You don‘t need the a/c in winter.
AC is more efficient than PTC.
Bjørn Nyland There is no ptc in the e-tron and for what do you need the a/c in winter?
Bjørn, how do you film 2 video's in 2 different languages? Thai and English
How?
@@bjornnyland yea, do you translate it or film it twice?
Shew T he films small chunks twice
It's a secret of Hollywood filmmakers
Obviously he dubs his own videos.
It is a sad state of affairs; the Circle K burgers are the best in town here; but then the competition is McD and some india/pakistani driven pizza places so not really that surpricing
Where did the name Etron 50 and 55 come from? Do they signify anything?
nope nothing, it's just a random way to hint at power
Audi have a numbering system that indicates the power output of the car, ranging from 30 to 70, in increments of five. No, it doesn't make any sense.
Nice
BYO woof woof .
Bjorn eats, more likes :)
Is this a range upgraded Version ?
It’s the 55’s little brother (cheaper and less range).
Man - That's an elegant lady... I mean car.
6:57 Did the red Volvo just honk at uncle Bjorn? Shieeeet. nein nein nein!! Unacceptable!
No honking. What was unacceptable? To be hammered by an EV because they were driving way under the speed limit?
Oh okay I thought the red dude was honking at you and thought that was unacceptable! 😂 Being hammered by an EV is totally acceptable if they drive under the speed limit. Honking for passing because of it is not.
The formula for stored energy with height is Ep=m*g*h. If you rise 600m with the Audi the stored energy is about 15.5MJ, which is about 4.3kWh. You never would have made it. Especially not using the right blinker. That consumes A LOT!

"we are just drafting behind some slow Norwegian, right"!
Fossil cars and slow Norwegian seem to be the two worst things in your world Bjørn.
As I recon this road has a 80 km/h speed limit.
And for those of you who don't know, speed limit is the maximum speed on a road with the best driving conditions. Wet and cold road can not have as good conditions as a dry and warm road.
Driving on 79 km/h (as shown in the video) where speed limit is 80 km/h is not driving slowly. Even if the speedometer is a little bit off.
On 80 km/h on the speedometer this Audi is probably on about 77 km/h.
Please, relax Bjørn.
I really like your videos, I just don't like your attitude to all the "slow Norwegians"
But I agree with you about the foxing fossils 😎👍
Incorrect. These Norwegians consistently drive 10 km/h under the speed limits. You should be the first one to know because you actually live in Norway...
@@bjornnyland
Not incorrect.
Just look at the video. You drove there, the speedo was on 79 when you shot that part of the video.
Is that slow on a 80 km/h stretch?
But as you say, yes I know how Norwegian drive. And their driving habits differ from person to person, of course.
If you really need that Audi door, rip it off and put it into the Tesla frunk! xD
Have you seen the movie "cowspiracy". Driving electric is a good move for the environment. But animal agriculture contributes more to climate change than all of transportation combined, eating a plantbased diet is the biggest change we can make to reduce our footprint

And what does it consume at constantly driving 120?

600 km of climbing would put you in space, right?
True. Nice thing, an EV would be able to make it if there are fast chargers along the way. (the driver will require a spacesuit)
An ICE requires oxygen to drive that far up.
If your use efficency model not comfort you drive longer

@@bjornnyland thank you! 🤔
There`s always something with this car :) (like heating bug, etc...).
Are there any etron drivers that have 200k km driven? I wonder about battery health...
Looking at this etron 50 - it can go 250km per 1 cycle! That means in 400 cycles it will reach 100k km and thats if you don`t hammer it... So, in 200k km - already 800 cycles!? Yikes... Almost 400k km for Tesla or Koreans for that many cycles... Man, if you use fast charging a lot, that battery is toasted...
There is enough Cobalt into the battery and the buffer is big enough. No problem. Same in classic Ioniq. I know people with 200k Ioniq and still 100% State of Health of battery and no range loss.
@@DerBlauzahn hmm, its hard to believe that. Li-ion are rated at 300-500 cycles, but best ones are up to 1.000 cycles!( ideal situations with very limited charging current and laboratory like conditions...)
@@DG-uv3zw Full cycles 0-100%(!) But this is because of buffer and real-life scenario not given. So buffer first prevents full cycle charging and real-life at second. Do you always drive to 0%? I don't think so. Btw. more Cobalt helps also to prevent degradation while fast charging.
@@DerBlauzahn you first have to understand what full cycle means! If you spend only 20% but 5 times x 20% is full cycle! Hopefully you understand now... And yes, ideally you want 20-80% so how much range do you have in etron 50?
@@DG-uv3zw I know what full cylce means. But think about it: 8 kWh buffer. Many Ioniqs still showing, that it could work.

Yeah, we know what you mean, you mean quality, the one thing you don't get with Tesla.
Incorrect. You get better quality in Tesla.
Better build quality? I doubt that. Efficiency is different from quality. Where is the better quality in Tesla? You don't have to soundproof Audi.
@@ivand911 The cabin interior and seems are just 10 to 20% of the vehicle. For BEVs, the software, the motors, the electronic control modules, battery control modules, cooling/heating systems, and of course the battery are all critical components. Failure to develop quality batteries (poor chemistry, bad cooling, innefiicient battery monitoring using old electronics with higher resistances) leads to lower efficiencies.
Maybe not true for all Audis, but putting a pretty coat on what is an otherwise mediocre at best powertrain/battery is not something VAG should be proud of. The ID3 will probably be a lot better.
