- Don't Pass Me By - The Georgia Satellites - Live Roskilde festivalen 1988 (part 3 of 8)
This is (in my humble opinion) the perfect rock n' roll song...!!
The recipe??:
You take a song, made by the best, the biggest and the most influential band in the historie of man kind, (The Beatles) and, with some sort of magic, upgrade the song (WHAT... UPGRADE a BEATLES SONG???? THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE...!!!) to this masterpiece of pure rock 'n roll.
(as Queen said): "It's a Kind of Magic."
LONG LIVE the Satellites.
These boys and Jason & The Nashville Scorchers straight up BLEW other bands out of water!
Hell ya ,2 of the best bands EVER !!!!
At the Capri theater in Atlanta, The Satellites and the Scorchers played 2 nights in a row. (I was there both nights) One night the Satellites played first. One night the Scorchers played first. Yes! Two of the greatest R&R bands in history. I wish I could have seen them in Europe, but I saw them both every time I could in Georgia and Tennessee. I count it up there with seeing Jimi and Janis.
2023 and still my Fave band
I love this version, a great rock n roll song!
This may be the best cover of a Beatles song I've ever heard
Still listen to them, them have a lot of great songs besides 'Keep your hands to yourself'.
Rock on!
it took me so long to figure that out.
Puré rock’n’roll roll at its best.
Pure, unadulterated, American rock n roll. There's a place in history for these guys. A monument maybe?
Working on a promo for the band to help introduce the younger crowd to them, mind if I include your comment?
@@andrewsmith5490 uhhh.....considering this is a British song, I'd be careful.....
Funny......this is a Ringo Starr/Beatles song......but I guess technically you could say it's, "American", that is if he's become a Citizen.......
Ringo Starr, songwriter for Don’t Pass Me By, is an American?
The group is American and the arrangement is quintessentially American, I think this is what the original commentor meant
Best 3 chord power rock band to come out in the 80's. They referred to themselves as hick AC/DC, and rightly so. They played max force 3 minute covers of a lot of songs. I still remember, 25 years later, seeing them close a show with an absolutely headbanging version of the theme song from The Jeffersons. Rick Price is an absolute monster on the bass guitar.
I have on tape them doing long black veil... So good
Undoubtedly the rockinest 3 chord band there is. Why did it take so long to post this video. 23 years in waiting. Look at the fun we've missed. These guys we're awesome then. I'd love to see and hear them again today. Come on backboys!
Un vrai grand groupe.. J'aime Georgia Satellites depuis le jour où Yannick, patron de l'inoubliable Malle à disques à Belfort, a mis " keep you hands...." sur sa platine... Un bonheur..
Best rock & roll band. saw them live a few times and they just rocked all night. Shame it all fell apart and they split
This is Rock'n'Roll....
love it, good ol rock n Roll played like it should be
They were awesome and real!!
Saw the original GS a dozen times, greatest pure rock n roll band ever. Sometimes they were way beyond awesome.
Tim Stevens - Amen. People don't realize how good they were. Way better than just Keep your hands to yourself.
They had the same problem as the Kentucky Headhunters: too country for rock stations, too rock for country stations.
Boy i love this band awesome hard to believe that the video i am watching is 30 years old still great
A cute Status Quo tribute in the intro..
American bands rock. Pure and simple.
the sound quality here is fantastic . brings home the sheer power and magic of the sats ... these were more than a fun band .. this is serious shit
American version of Status Quo who have been rocking across Europe and other countries for over 50 years 😊
SQ is more of a gentleman's band compared to the Georgia Satellites. They also have 2x the the members.
Why doesnt this have more views? This is incredible!
Had it not been for The Replacements, the Satellites would have been the greatest bar band in history...
Still rocks!!!
Seen them in the 80's...Manchester ???
Old age...drugs and drink has frazzled my brain but I remember how fuckin good and loud they were!!
Can not believe we have not heard this band awesome them and ac dc would be together we aussie have missed out love this band only been listening to them on RUclips for afew days can not stop watching them
They cranked the song and did it great!
Roskilde festival '88 ... Super playing, amazing tone, sea of drinks, speedy girls & population growth ... Oh yeah, it was the miracolous, unforgettable times!
I used to party with these guys literally every night of the week at Hedgens bar on Roswell Road! Still partying with them today!!
Рок 🎸 навсегда
A Les Paul Jr, a Tele, nasty overdrive and some fine upstanding lads from the American South. A recipe for a butt shakin’ good time.
Saw these guys at Bogarts in Cincy back in the day. Great show
Sounds great. Just ran across this by accident. Far out
I just stumbled across this today as well!! Amazing!
Awesome! Really, epic stuff! It blows me away, this band were so good and yet sadly, like a shooting star, were so short lived. The greatest band most people have never heard of!
Their success was very short lived, they are basically considered a one hit wonder from the 80s. However, they are still around with only original guitarist Rick Roberts still in the band. They do kick ass though, regardless!
You mean Rick Richards, right?? Dan Baird and Mauro still touring under the name Homemade Sin. Very good band!
Same problem as Kentucky Headhunters: wrecked by members coming and going, and even when they were here they didn't get the airplay they deserved due to being too country for rock stations and too rock for country stations.
They were unbelievable. "Short-lived" from a national-success perspective for sure. But a real Atlanta institution for years. I saw them 35-4O times at a small dive in Buckhead (N Atlanta) called Hedgens where they were house band for a while. They killed it every single night.
joe smith yes you are right i only came across them on you tube i am Australian and the band is great
These guys are a little more than just one hit wonders ,they are like laying down some sound Man.
One of the best bands I ever seen live
I really thought the Satellites would become America's Rolling Stones!~ the first time I heard Hands to Yourself. What a great band! But, just as well, so did I think Lynryd Skynrd worth worth of that title, can you imagine how much great more music they also would have done? And it is further proof of the greatness of Lennon-McCartney, penning so much great rock and roll music... and Ringo only sang it as a fun, circus, country romp with a swirling organ thru leslie speakers! The three guitar attack blows my mind!
Totally agree. Saw them twice, once in a small concert hall in Tulsa. Still one of my top three concerts ever attended.
I agree but, Ringo actually wrote this song. Apparently Harrison helped a lot but was not credited.
The Stones wish they could've been Skynyrd. Probably still blaming the soundman for Skynyrd blowing them off their own stage at Knebworth.
UN FUCKING REAL..... I love them.
how did I miss them all these years? I feel like Ive been robbed.
How did I miss this!!!???? Perfect!!! 😃
Love essentials. Classic album.
What a totally fun band. Saw them open for Seger in Detroit Feb '87, Unfortunately, it was shortly before their album started getting serious air play, so didn't know any of their songs yet. Didn't have a clue who they were, just knew they rocked! Thanks VERY much for posting!
Dan Baird kills on this!!
this is the most exciting rock n roll concert ever .. possibly
my god I love this shit!!!!!!
Me 2 ;-)
From 0:23 to 0:28 they play Caroline by the QUO. No wonder they rock
Rick Richards is a big Quo fan. He did a cover of "Break The Rules" by Quo with The Western Sizzlers. Great stuff!
Glad i wasn't the only one who caught that!!
@@scottwilson4273 I noticed it too. This song could be written by Alan Lancaster.
@@rockandroll1296 The songwriter is Richard Starkey AKA Ringo Starr.
Excellent !!
Very good!
..and let us not forget the photo of them outdoors on 3 amps, one says Loud, one says As and one says Hell.
Anhygol ! Outstanding ! Can't stand still!!! Croeso o Gymru. Welcome from Wales
they are beyond awesome
Good version. Funny - The Beatles version was more country but a country band, GS, makes it more a rocker. Love both. It makes Ringo proud.
Just live these guys came across them on RUclips and i'm gonna not stopwatch ing these guys
I heard it on The Beatles Channel on Sirius today. A great version.
This is an amazing cover, and is excellent quality for a rare live vid. Thank you for sharing this. :-)
dang miss them good ole days
just great music ....
You were in a car crash, you lost all your hair, that's some top-notch rock and roll lyricism there along with an insanely catchy crunchy yummy song
Singer and lead player here joined Izzy Stradlin and The JuJu Hounds in the 1990s.
Great tribute to the Beatles
Great performance of Ringo's contribution to "The White Album."
goettlich, danke, tears in my eyes !!!!!!!!
Great Ringo Starr song!
Something extremely rare, a Beatle cover that actually could be better than the original
One of my best friends was stunned when I told him this was a Beatles song…and he’s a Ringo nut. The Satellites made it their own.
Awesome band fun rock and roll and Dan is so cute
The perfect tune
Well of course it rocks harder than the original (White Album) version. The Beatles did it as a COUNTRY song. It makes a great Bluegrass song, too.
Nice .... It's a good Rock Band
And thsts why they call it rock and roll...
que buen tema
this is a Beatles song, from Ringo Starr ! ! ! Great euh ?
Ringo's version pales in comparison to this!
Jeff B it's just another style, here it's a influenced by Status Quo, but I like this version too
+Jeff B that is for sure!! totally agree with you
That’s a banger.
Frickin Awesome man !
Not a bad cover for a classic Beatles song.
Saw them in stoke on Trent UK def for two days.
This band rocked, they could have ruled, but dan didn;t want it.
Thats as good as Keith and Ronnie ever did!
beatles tune !
And then some.
Nothing like a crunchy LPJ and twangy Tele to get things busy.
The American Status Quo.
Exactly what our lads call them
PROPER !!
@scarman5150 agreed, this IS better than the original, at least it certainly ROX harder than the original and i'm a rock and roll womon! keep the slow stuff
Saw GS open for Hank Jr. 1984
Bad to the Bone 🦴
gotta say this makes me want to raise hell!!!
I didn't know Dan could play lead like that!
Holy Shit.
Great band and a great McCartney/Lennon song that they tossed to Ringo
what happened ? why aren't they still here with their music??? I'm old and missed what happened.
They're still touring and Rockin hard!
@nrbovee666 apparently thats all the chords one needs to ROCK!!! saw them at Blossom Music in the 80"s they weren't headlining yet they flippin rocked the place
a richard starky compation the georgia satilites on the white album.
well done
Should be in RR hall of fame but not enough radio air time
Great Cover and I'm surprised they chose a ringo song
Buen rock
Ringo starr this song....🤔
See em reading '87
@bobdice28 ive seen the satellites and homemade sin and i really think dan was a much nicer guy...
but without dan baird there are no georgia satellites!!
Written by Ringo for Beatles.....
Where did rock n roll go for goodness sake?
B E A T L E S
A little Status Quo ("Caroline" intro) @.0:24
@bobdice28 and you know this from first hand information?
00:59 pure pleasure
Ringo would be startled.
