After 2 hours of countless boolean tutorials I found this. Thank you!!!

Man, this is so powerful. I had seen this video before but didn't retain the info. Then I needed to do this, and I looked for hours without an answer... days even. Then your video finally showed, and wow!!!
Thank you, you magnificent bastard. You inadvertently solved an issue i'd been pulling my hair out over with rigging. I'd probably have never modeled again without you.
THANK YOU! With doing this on an array of planes intersecting my mesh, I was able to get some nice precise rings around my mesh, and then delete the faces of the arrays to just have the surrounding vertices and separating them. I was going to try and shrink wrap some thin torus around it but this is far more accurate. I reeeeealy appreciate you. 🙏
You can use this method for making very easily decals on complex surfaces also (without having to mess with uvs'). You draw your decal shapes by making the intersect cuts and then you fill them with different materials in edit mode.
That is fantastic. I've needed exactly this tool for ages and I had no idea it was just built into Blender.
Four years after this video was posted, it just ended my hours-long search for how to do exactly this. Thank you so much.
I know it's been 2 years but I figured I'd comment anyway. You just saved me a MASSIVE headache with this. Thank you so much chipp 🙏
