Damn these comments are so awful. I'm really happy for you and that you've been able to find truth and I hope that's going to lead you to better things in life.
I was lucky enough that my mom accidentally taught me philosophy when she thought she was teaching me Christianity by actually letting me deeply discuss things I read in the Bible rather than outright forcing me to accept them. I had a deep love for archeology and pretty early in life learned a lot about the origins of different religions and how they actually formed from historical records.
You have a very calming voice, perfect for this kind of thing.
Also your story really resonated with me. A few years ago questions about some of the church's moral stances led to investigation, which led to discovering inconsistencies in church teaching, which led to me leaving.
One of my biggest revelations was realizing I was accepting reasoning from the church I wouldn't accept from any other religion. "If you don't understand how some doctrine is good, or you don't think a loving God would do it this way, just have faith."
If you are making more videos, I would be interested in hearing how you handled if, when, and how you told Catholics friends and family, and how they reacted if you did.
Thank you so much! I am glad to hear the video really spoke to you. The dismissal of doubts and questions when they couldn’t be answered in the name of faith really got to me, too. If that is the core basis for our belief, any number of other religions we might have been raised in could also be true from that point of view. And that’s a great video idea! The Catholic Church does not teach the complete gospel. I grew up in the Catholic Church too went every week was even an alter server. I did not understand the true gospel and the lovingness of god. He sent his only son to die for all our sins and if you understand the trinity you know that Jesus is god. So god came down to heaven to die for your sins. “It is finished” he proclaimed on the cross when he died. No more has to be done just accept the free gift of eternal life❤❤

I was raised in a secular family. While growing up, I sometimes thought that religious families had something that my family did not have. I now realize that there are both functional and dysfunctional families, be they religious or non-religious. These days, I think of myself as a non-believer.

God is the epitome of Holiness because He is sinlessly perfect, A sinner (liar, sexually immoral, taking the Lord’s Name in vain, thief etc) cannot be in the presence of God or else he will be utterly consumed therefore repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour to go to Heaven.

A really interesting listen and some of the views expressed are similar to what I’ve thought from time to time. I haven’t been to church in years because my doubts about the truth of Christianity began to overwhelm me. Good luck in your future spiritual journey.

Ex-Catholic here from the deeply religious State of Nebraska. I highly appreciate stumbling onto your video. I’m 36 and remember when I started telling some of my friends and family how I saw religion and the world around me. It was a VERY tough time for a while as some people that I felt were close to me, started to push away from me for a while. Others put their excuse patrol badge on and tried to tell me that I was “never really a TRUE Christian” or started down the road of threatening hell and damnation and all the rest. Any time I try to sit and talk with them “in good faith” and try to logically explain, like you’ve done in this video all of the legitimate issues and logical fallacies that led me to conclude that it was false, the “faith” language comes out and “you just have to believe” speeches that never end or really poorly constructed apologetics. They can never, EVER, get passed that the premise of the whole Bible being a fabrication from the start, no matter how many inconsistencies or out right falsehoods you point out to them. In any event, I hope that wherever life takes you, you continue to live your most authentic self and speak the truth as you have. Good luck to you.

Former Catholic here. Long ago my grandmother's sister who was a nun came to town to visit. I hadn't seen her in a long time. I was in grad school at the time and she asked me what I was majoring in. I told her I was pursuing a masters degree in Philosophy. Her reply (and I'll never forget it) was, "That's interesting, but just don't take it too seriously." I was stunned. Would she have said that if I told her I was a biology major? Clearly not. Philosophy is about studying the history of ideas and assessing them, something religious systems don't really want folks to do. She didn't know it at the time, but her response greatly fueled my doubts about the truth of religion in general and Christianity in particular. To be a Catholic (or any sort of Christian really) is to accept the doctrine served up to you and under no circumstances are you to question it. I just got to a point where I had to walk away from it all.
It’s amazing how things like that inadvertently planted seeds of doubt for later on within us. I hope you keep on embracing the pursuit of ideas & truths through philosophy, it’s an incredible way to grow as a person.

My father’s side of the family is from Poland and very Catholic. I went to a Catholic Kindergarten -8th grade school. To this day, if I were to have kids, I would want them to get that same quality of education. When I got into highschool I was much further ahead than my peers from the public schools. And it isn’t because our public school system was bad.
Now
That being said. I began to deconstruct faith when I was finishing highschool. I heard my father make a remark about how the Church makes rules that interfere in people’s bedrooms that make no sense. Come to find out he was referring to this idea of contraceptives as being “inherently” evil was a decision that they made around the time of the American “Baby Boom”. It all kind of hit me at once, that line of thinking was “…well shit…if they can just make up rules as they go, what else have they changed over the course of 2000 years? And what kind of rules changes did Judaism have itself before Christianity?!”
I also cannot help but scoff at the idea of the biblical god being pro-life because in the Old Testament he told Israelites to commit genocide and there are verses about infanticide. And in the New Testament he demanded the torture of and blood sacrifice of his unique son. That isn’t to say I don’t have a strong sense of spirituality, but it seems to me that various biblical writers put their own spin on historical events that were otherwise monstrous and justified it by saying “god said we could and you can’t ask him to prove it because he isn’t your god and he doesn’t like you.” I will digress for now. Pardon my novella.
Oh absolutely, learning about the history of contraception and what led to Humanae Vitae really changed how I viewed Church teaching. Various forms of birth control had existed since antiquity, yet throughout Church history contraceptives had not been so definitely addressed and understood.
Everything contained in the Old Testament and how many Christians try to just explain it all away while claiming God is love is so disconcerting. Thank you for sharing some of your thoughts on the topic!

Good for you. Many of us were indoctrinated as children, and it's nearly impossible to break away from religious superstition, but knowledge is the key. Once you understand books like the bible are only myth, it becomes easier to leave the superstition behind. Freedom awaits! Like John Lennon said many years ago, "There ain't no Jesus gonna come from the sky."

I have literally never heard someone say Christianity isn't a religion though, usually they lump it into both a religion and their relationship with god, that is wild.
If you'd like some suggestions on some great content that will help with critical thinking/deconstructon etc. there a few that come to mind off the top of my head that may help you:
Mind Shift (he focuses on deconstruction specifically)
Rationality Rules (he does critical thinking philosophy stuff)
Logicked (reacts to apologists with.....logic, he's quite fun)
There are a ton of others but I'm not sure if you want any suggestions period.

I'm curious where you're at on your belief in a god in general, I don't recall you addressing that, which would explain why there are so many Islamic folk suggesting their faith. Who knows, maybe that or any number of other religions would work for you, or maybe you'll just not find any convincing reason to believe in a god.
I'd also add Paulogia to the head of that list and add Viced Rhino and Genetically Modified Skeptic, too. All three are former fundamentalist Christians who found their way out of that hellish nonsense.

@@dougdoesit3013 Of course it depends on the religious person. Most people are good, whatever they believe. Religion does justify misogyny and homophobia for a start. It did justify slavery and genocide (arguably still does in certain parts of the world). But for some that were indoctrinated from birth, the trauma of things like the fear of hell and just the constant pressure of "am I being a good enough person to avoid the punishment of my God" is not a good pressure to endure.
The bottom line is, we should not need to believe in any Gods to be good, and any God that exists, is only a good God if it rewards people who lead a good life whatever they believe. Not because they worship it.

I got saved and baptized long ago. I never thought the day would come that I’d question if Jesus was even real.
It is such an reality - shattering, difficult thing to confront when we took such belief completely as truth and for granted. I hope this is finding you well
When you say you got saved a long time ago, may I ask what you mean by that? Sometimes people think if they prayed a prayer or got baptized, tried to keep the ten commandments, or lived a pretty good life, etc. they were saved.
Unfortunately this happens too often because the Gospel is not clearly presented - it is changed into something you must earn or do in order to be saved. The whole reason we need a savior though is because we can't earn it, and we can't make it on our own.
In fact, I would point out that a person is not saved by not sinning, being good, saying a prayer, going to church, being baptized, etc. - if we could be saved that way, why would Jesus need to pay the price for our sins on the cross? Matthew 26:39 tells us, "And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." This passage makes it clear that there wasn't any other way other than Jesus' sacrifice for us to be saved. If God let people in any other way after making Jesus do this, we couldn't believe a word He said.
In fact, I still mess up and sin. The Bible makes it clear that anyone who claims to be without sin is a liar (that includes Christians). 1 John 1:8 says, "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us". Verse 10 also states, "If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us."
Aside from being impossible, if one had to stop sinning after placing their faith in Jesus in order to receive eternal life, it is no longer by grace or a gift of God as the Bible says it is. Ephesians 2:8-9, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast."
Romans 4:5, "However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness."
You see, God loves us so much that He paid for our crimes by sending His own Son as the substitute and He became our sin for us - taking God's just punishment against our sin/lawbreaking upon Himself. 2 Corinthians 5:21, "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."
The only way this can pay for our sin is if He is who He said He was (the Son of God) and lived a perfect, guiltless life - never sinning/breaking the law and living the perfect life none of us could ever live. Because He lived that perfect life and took our punishment upon Himself, His perfection can be given to us through faith as a gift - no works. On the cross He cried out "It is Finished" - in Greek the word is "tetelestai" and is an accounting term meaning paid in full.
This is great news for us! It means all of our sins/lawbreaking - past, present and future - were paid for in full by Jesus through His death, burial and resurrection (which proved that the payment was accepted). All of your sins and my sins have already been paid for. It is now a matter of whether or not you will accept that payment through faith in Jesus Christ.
How then does a person accept this payment? By placing their faith in the Gospel, which tells us what Jesus the Son of God did to pay for our lawbreaking. Romans 1:16 tells us, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."
This tells us if you believe (rely upon, trust) the Gospel for your salvation, you will be saved.
1 Corinthians 15:2-4, "By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,"
Additionally, praying for forgiveness (or any prayer for that matter) is not what saves a person. It is faith alone in the person and work of Jesus alone that saves a person. A person can choose to express that in a prayer if they want, but nowhere does the Bible say you must say a prayer to be saved.
In order to receive it, we don't have to beg or plead for it, we simply accept it through faith. If someone offers you a gift, you wouldn't beg for it saying, "please, please, please give me the gift". You would reach out and take it, and that is what we are invited to do. Revelation 22:17, "The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life."

I can only tell you I believe Jesus is real with all my heart. And that I believe he loves you. I will not judge you and most certainly not condemn you. I feel you are most likely a very real, honest and brave person to go online and tell your story. Veronica, did you ever have an experience where your family had a belief or practice that was explicitly in contradiction with the church? There was one instance in my childhood where my parents told me that something I learned in Catechism was wrong and that we didn’t believe in that. That ended up happening a few more times, especially when I did sex-ed.
Hello, yes. I definitely can think of some more general stances (such as Catholicism’s teachings on war/violence) contradicting the beliefs of people I knew. Seeing that disconnect was very interesting as teachings were overlooked when it didn’t align with the rest of the person’s political worldview.

What you are experiencing is an awakening into reality. Here, there is no god. A god is not needed. You are not broken, There is nothing to be saved from. Just be the beautiful, warm loving person you are and you will see life as it was meant to be seen. No safety net, no guilt, just living life to its fullest and appreciating each day you can live it. They will try and claw you back with the threat of hell, but once you see reality without a god, the true reality, you will no longer fear hell and the threat becomes meaningless. Keep searching. Hi Veronica, I watched the entire video and it sounds like you had a very traumatic experience growing up. It is not your fault that you were subjected to such an environment and I wish others were a bit more understanding of that. To say whether you were a "true" Christian or not is a disputable matter, but what is certain is that you were in a psychologically abusive environment that claimed to be Christian. It is understandable for you to draw away from religion, after the experiences that you have had in the name of Christianity. Even the lack of empathy in the comments section further highlights this to be the case. I wish those who are insulting you in the comments section, would use the time to politely convince you otherwise using logic and reason. In my view, your reasons for leaving Christianity was not centred around the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but rather on the abuse you suffered and a few disagreements about other doctrines.
Hello, thank you for your thoughtful reply. The religious aspect of it certainly played a huge role. However, the more I examined in this process the more all Christian belief and the Gospel (not just the more religious aspects) were not holding up for me personally. I still find a lot of insight and value of aspects of the Gospel message and think those who take it to heart as Christians can embody it in a very beautiful way. You are a very intelligent young lady and I applaud your honesty. The bible was written by iron age man with iron age morals and it shows terribly. It's a collection of stories and hear-say that was written down several generations after the "supposed" events happened. Then the writings were patched together to try and make it as cohesive as possible but it fails as you've noticed. Once it was pieced together, it was sold to the public as "god's word" by the catholic church itself. It contains little to no actual truth. The laws around birth control, abortion and gay relationships are simply there as a way to grow christian flock. I've always heard that the best way to become an Atheist is to read the bible from cover to cover instead of just cherry picking the nice bits which is what churches do.
Not to mention many stories clearly from earlier religions and repeated across religions. One might concluded that they were simply the kinds of stories people told at the time to entertain the listener!

No offense my friend but the Bible is 100 percent true. There are literally prophecies that were written it thousands of years ago that are coming true today. With all due respect and no offense but most people that claim the Bible is fake have never even read the Bible. The Bible was the first to predict that the earth was round, the Bible predicted that the Euphrates river was going to dry up and today its almost dry, it also predicted that King Cyrus was going to reign over 150 years before he did, archaeologists have found evidence of Jesus's death and burial. So you saying that the Bible has no truth in it is absolutely false. Only time will tell if God is real and there is so much evidence that points to His existence. Don't wait until it's too late to believe in the Lord.

It also needs to be provable that it was written BEFORE the event it prophesizes. There are NO 'prophecies' that meet this criteria. Well in Christianity, the Invisible Distant Unrelatable Justice God became visible and relatable as one of us in the flesh as Jesus Christ. I believe we should give authority to the higher power. We humans survive without food and drinks and can a day survive without the suns rays and can plants survive without rain, can animals survive without food and the law and order of authority. What about family moments, what about going to school, etc. Everything we do is based on authority and giving our power to those authorities. Spiritually God matters, but i would say we must learn to be independent. We cannot just do things just because it feels good and right. We need the law and order, and direction of the Most High. Jesus Christ intervention and essence within us. If a woman wants a man, then she should show the emotional and subliminal signs and dress well and do what is mentally required to get what she wants from a man. What we need is God, to spiritually guide, support and help us in our lives.
Hello, thank you for sharing your perspective. As to authority - as we live in a society with different hierarchies, there does need to be a place for authority. But if authority takes the place of what your own mind and heart is telling you and what you know to be the truth, that can be incredibly harmful. Authority doesn’t and can’t be completely done away with, but it is good to ask questions about the system/s we live in and not follow them blindly and that is what I mean by stating in the video to being open to asking questions. I think many of Christ’s teachings are a wonderful source of spiritual wisdom, I can see why they mean a lot to you.

I will provide just one example below of a scientific fact in the Bible that today's scientists agree with. There are many more in my brief and humble little videos:
The writers of the Books of the Bible lived thousands of years ago and could not have known that the scientific facts they wrote down were true without divine inspiration given to them by Jesus Christ / The God of the Bible.
Example: Moses was an isolated sheepherder who knew absolutely nothing about the geologic history of the Earth, which occurred over billions of years by time as we experience it here on Earth.
Yet, Moses wrote correctly in Genesis that during the Earth’s development there was a time when it was totally covered with water and then the dry land appeared in one place (the supercontinent that existed before tectonic plate movement began, of course).
Scientists today agree that the Earth was once covered with water and that land initially appeared in one place, just as the Bible says.

The Earth’s surface was at one point dry before it ever had oceans. Regardless, if you think the description of the oceans before dry land validates the Bible, you’d have to accept that the descriptions of the sky being a dome holding water above it, night and day existing before the sun, and birds coming into existence before land animals all invalidate the Bible being divine revelation.
