I'm lucky enough to live near a few Steady Ed designed courses here in Cincinnati. They're actually pulling Winton Woods as we speak and redesigning it after 40+ years. Miami Whitewater is another one and it has a sweet old "Frisbee golf" sign at the beginning with rules and stuff. A legend for sure, thanks!
It’s a loose connection, but when you flashed the lil photo of a super ball I recalled a story from a VHS I had as a kid. In 1966 the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs had lobbied the NFL to change the name of the AFL-NFL World Championship Game to the Super Bowl. He stated it was his kids favorite toy and thought it was a cool name for the final game. The NFL thought it not a good idea, but the media loved it and used it anyway. It wasn’t until Super Bowl III that the leagues trademarked and adopted the name change. So in a weird worm hole time twist kinda thingy, Super Bowl III was officially the first ever Super Bowl. If I ever start a tournament I’m definitely starting it as the 3rd Annual ______ (fill in the blank) Open. In honor of Ed of course.
Mostly correct information. it must be noted that while Ed did have the vision and is the Father of Disc Golf, he was not always the best person for the sport in the early years. In a nutshell, he protected his patents. He sued a lot of people and even cities that installed home made baskets. He stole and idea of a friend of mine here in Texas that made Stroke Saver Baskets. Thomas Bertrand came up with the idea of what DGA calls the "Slider chains" He was making his single chain baskets with this configuration. (The patent had run out on single chain baskets) Well DGA filed a patent on it and then told Thomas to stop making them. He did settle, DGA allowed him to keep using his idea.
There are many holes in this 'presentation' and if you want the whole history of disc golf then I would strongly suggest people read "A Chain of Events" by Jim Palmeri & Phil Kennedy. Steady Ed initially hated the concept of disc golf - that is a fact!!
Thanks for the read recommendation, I typically start a baseball book in the off season(usually when pitchers report to camp on February), but maybe I can struggle through some disc golf history reading.
R.I.P. "steady Ed". Thanks for bringing us all disc golf. I will be forever thankful. 🙏
Same here!

@ericjepson3765 oh wow that sounds like a super fun place to check out!
Thank the Gods for Steady Ed. The newer generations can learn what 'passion' and 'work ethic' really used to be.
If they take the time to learn about him hopefully they are inspired by his dedication to the sport.
I met Steady Ed in 1996 at the South Bend Worlds.
That is amazing! What was your experience like?

That is an awesome connection! Very thoughtful and great to hear you would host your tournament in honor of Ed. Seems you've given it some thought!
lol I’ll be honest here…I don’t want to hold a disc of dead body 😂
I hear you! Its not for everyone lol
Just to be able to say you have one would be amazing.
I almost bought a set because I thought it was so cool. I'm hoping my family will get behind doing this for me.

The new age golfer could give zero fucks about the old school golf history
@tattooedjohnson most of them don't, I agree. I try to spread the knowledge when I can but sadly the videos that talk about it are not popular ones.
Pickleball is kicking disc golf ass
@@tattooedjohnson that is true as well.
@@tossingplastic maybe do a video on what pickleball, shuffe board and corn hole is doing right to grow so well
