PATTANI, THAILAND - Welcome to Pattani province, in the deep South of Thailand! Today, along with my friend Muhammad from Papa Tagu (goo.gl/maps/Sg7wiaJYJqw3NKz36), visited two communities - one for a famous durian in the mountains. And two to the sea to a community that specializes in fourfinger threadfin fish, which is also called an Indian salmon (ปลากุเลา)!
Durian Monthong Sai Khao (ทุเรียนหมอนทองทรายขาว) - First we headed to a village called Sai Khao, which is a beautiful place on the side of the mountain. They are known for their fruit and especially for durian. They grow a type of “monthong durian” which is found around Thailand, but their version is slightly different and known to be the best quality in Thailand. It was exceptionally creamy and perfectly sweet, rich, and thick. Definitely the best monthong I’ve probably ever had. Still, I do prefer the small “durian baan” which usually have a stronger, smellier, and bitter taste. But it was a great experience and great to see the durian at the source.
Fourfinger Threadfin (Indian Salmon ปลากุเลา) - Next, we took a short drive to a coastal community where they fish for Fourfinger Threadfin (also known as Indian Salmon ปลากุเลา), and they preserve the fish in this village and then sell it. You’ll find this fish all over Thailand, and most of it comes from the coast of Pattani and Narathiwat. They set up a makeshift kitchen and deep fried pieces of the fish and finished it off with a huge amount of lime juice, chilies, and shallots. It was one of the greatest bursts of umami ever - so much flavor and age in that fish. If you close your eyes you might have thought it was a very mature aged cheese.

Great to see the locals speaking both Thai and Kelantanese Malay. Such an interesting place Southern Thailand is.
When I saw his face said “what a day, what an awesome day!”, I really feel that he was so really enjoy the durian. The durian is so special, the villager who gave those durian for him said in Thai that they won the durian contest in Thailand for 3 year consecutively. I hope i can try that one once in my life!!!

It's called Ikan Kurau in Singapore and Malaysia... and the name is Senangin in Indonesia.
Its is often called Senangin in Malaysia and Singapore.

7:30 that's Senangin not kurau. Kurau is very different. I heard Mark mentioned Kurau.. I think Thai got confused.

Ikan Kurau or Indian Threadfin is bigger in size, and has distinct and long fin/fingers and grey in colour.
Senangin is much smaller and silvery in colour, and this is how you distinguish it from a distance .
Another thing, the price of Kurau is 10 times higher because it is difficult to catch one nowadays.
By the look of it, this video shows the common Senangin.
I don't trust Mark's reviews but when Ying says it's good, then it must be really good :)

@@melissamiante360 Probably either misspelled Mark's name by mistake or just mixed him up with Mikey Chen another popular travel/food vlogger. Mark and Mike are quite similar names so it's easy to confuse the two, and I think most people would know what he actually meant.

I feel Mark and his wife are extremely intelligent and are capable of teaching their son the basic studies learned in schools.
In addition he is learning the world!! Things he would never learn in an established school! He already speaks multiple languages and has seen things most adults will never experience!
