TYRE, LEBANON - Tyre is an ancient coastal city of Lebanon, that dates back to 2750 BC as a Phoenician City. It’s a fishing city, and so we set out to go on a fishing experience and eat local fish and hummus with a fisherman. Even though our catch was small, it was a hugely learning experience. #Lebanon #Tyre #fishing
Thank you to USAID - My visit to Lebanon was supported by the USAID Lebanon Enterprise Development Project. Thanks to Ibrahim Osta (Director Middle East & North Africa, Chemonics International): / ibrahim_osta / ibrahim.osta.35
    Friends in the video:
    Thank you to Maya
    Fadi Abu Jaber: / jordanality
    Kamel: / feryal.boutique
Mahfouz Sandwich Shop - The day before going fishing, we met up with the fisherman and ate some sandwiches at the legendary Mahfouz sandwich stop. Some people drive all the way from Beirut just to eat these sandwiches. The meat combinations and sweet pepper is what made them so good to me.
Fishing in Tyre - We woke up about 4 am and set off to go fishing. The fishermen had already been out for a while in the night, and they had a small catch. We set off, and cast the nets a few times, but didn’t have much luck. We did catch a few small fish, but nothing much. Captain said it was the slow part of the season, so fishing wasn’t very good.
So we ended up buying a bigger fish from the market, though still local fish from the Mediterranean Sea. We bought a pigfish, which we brought to the bakery to bake.
Baroud Restaurant - As the fish was baking we walked over to Baroud restaurant to order some hummus as Captain said he always eats hummus with fish. We also had to quickly try their ful, which was excellent. I still think the best ful though is in Saida.
After the fish was finished baking, we brought the fish and the hummus to the local fisherman canteen at the port, and feasted. The fish was incredible, so flaky and firm, and I think it was my first time to ever really eat fish and hummus as the main combination of the meal - and it works so well!
A breathtaking experience, and just a slight glimpse into the life of a fisher life in Tyre, Lebanon.

Mark, you made it to Tyre, the ancient city of Tyre and the birthplace of Europa, my continent! This is where we got the name of our continent: Europa. I can’t believe no European school teaches you that, I had to wait to go to college to learn it in my ‘ Ancient Civilizations’ course. The Phoenician expeditions that ended up settling and creating ‘ mighty Carthage’ ( In Tunisia), Cádiz, Málaga, Algeciras, Alicante, Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Malta, Palermo, half of Sicily, half Sardinia, Antibes and Marseille ( France) Morocco, Tunisia, Libya etc..... they all started from mighty Tyre. In Italy, the Tyrrhenian Sea ( il Mare Tirreno) is called after them... the inhabitants of Tyre. The Minoan civilization of Crete is the melting union between the Phoenicians ( the settlers of Tyre and Byblos and the people of Crete. Princess ‘Erp’( called Europa by the people of Crete ) and her marriage with the king of Crete mark the birth of the Minoan civilization and the birth of our continent Europa and people ... Isn’t that amazing? The eternal history of Lebanon, a tiny country with the same population as Norway, but with an incredible history of an immense nation, the land of Phoenicia. Greetings from Norway.

Only reckless if its rough seas, it's super calm and they were mostly swimming distance from shore, lebanese fisherman cant effort vests with the income they earn. Also a vest isnt going to help people who can all swim.

@@Toastybees Hold on so I'm judgmental by saying that life vests are important but it's ok for you to assume things about me and judge me based on those assumptions? No swimming will not always save you, currents get strong and you can get exhausted or too cold to swim very quickly. I never judged these people, just said that if they can't afford it there's no need to say life vests are unnecessary. It's not my opinion it's a statistical fact that life vests save lives.

You learn to appreciate food so much more, when you see the hard work that goes into it. Very good video, enjoyed as always! thank you!! :) Safe travels friends.

Than you Mark for showing them. Almost everyday the news reports military action on southern border with Israel and Syria. The cities you show seem to be immune to this. Why? ark, your videos are amazing and your explanations and use of the language for names is super.

Iran is spreading terror and hate everywhere. They give over 1 billion to Hamas and Hezbollah every year.
Arabs have nothing better to do but cause trouble in the world! If they actually worked for a living instead of living on handouts they wouldn't have time to terrorize the world!
Iran and some arab enemies insist in probing Israel's restrain with low key proxy attacks, the result: Israel becomes stronger and stronger. The next war will be Iran's undoing
