It's more of war pick with 3 "teeth" rather than actual war scythes but yes. It would be effective. Not as effective as anything actually designed to work as a weapon instead of being fancy but yes.

I don't watch much anime but that scythe design looks like it could be used in some very creative ways so if I ever saw a dude coming at me with that thing I would be in the hills😂
He does in fact use it in a very creative way. The scythe is connected to a very long steel cable, which he tugs and maneuvers the scythe in the air with, so you never know how it’s gonna move or what direction it will come from. He also doesn’t actually try to kill anything with the scythe, his main objective is just to injure you even slightly so he can get a drop of your blood, then he uses the victims blood to link himself with them, so any damage he takes the victim also takes. He’s also immortal, so any damage done to him is harmless, so once he’s linked with someone all he has to do is stab himself in the heart and shows over. Man I love Hidan, such a cool character
@@chainer1918 Just from what you have described, that sounds like some stuff straight out of DnD to be honest and I'm absolutely loving it! Like I said before I don't watch much anime but even simple things like wondering how that fictional weapon would be maneuvered makes me want to watch whatever show this is from, especially with the lore that has already been presented in the previous comment.
The scythe one was noted in universe as being unorthodox and unweildy, but used it largely for fear and the guy was immortal so he didn't have to worry about being killed due to bad choices.
What also bumps up Hidan's weapon is he isn't really aiming to deal a lot of damage with a strike from the scythes. He just needs to draw any amount of blood, at which point he uses his jutsu to finish off the opponent.
Even Xenovia herself said she can't fully control the blade too ! If it's that hard to wield in anime world, of course it's impossible to to wield in real life.
Could you take a look at the sword of the creator from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. This is because the sword of the creator is very interesting because it works not just as a regular sword but also the blades are segmented and can come apart with the sword then also working like that of a whip and giving the sword more range and also each of the segments has its own sharp "tooth" that could actually make it much more efficient in cutting or slicing at an opponent when used as a whip, making it much more efficient than many other whip swords I've seen. Now I don't know if this will impact your view on the sword of the creator but in the lore of the game it's actually made of Wyvern bones and in the lore of three houses it's said that these bones are more durable than "all materials other than crucible steel" with it also lasting for more than a thousand years ever since it's creation despite it's frequent and heavy usage in a nearly 100 year war. Also it has religious significance as this and several other weapons made by these same types of bones are said to have been creations of the goddess of creation (in the Three Houses Universe), Sothis.
Hidan's scythe works better when you consider its purpose. Hidan stated during an episode that he only uses the scythe to hurt his opponent enough to collect some blood on the blade, so that he can make his ritual. It makes sense he would want a long, large weapon with multiple blades and great range, that can also be thrown and caught back. Maximum range at all times!
It's frustrating to see it being ignored that some swords shown are supposed to work differently in the anime, like just grazing or requiring super strength or having special properties
The triple scythe from Naruto was stated to have been made an intentionally poor weapon, because the use for it was to harm the opponent and get their blood sample, the actual ritual killing was done by a telescopic spike
To be fair Hidan's "sword" has a special requirement: it doesn't need to cause deadly wounds, it just need to draw blood from the enemy, his ritualistic "jutsu" will finish the rest.
Fun fact hidan’s scythe was used less for killing and more to gather blood for his ritual which was his main offensive ability. Also if you could pull off his ritual ability in storm 4 you are a pretty sick gamer
So, actual weaponized scythes (war scythes) did not have the blade mounted as seen with Hidan's scythe thingy. They had the blade mounted much like a pole arm, so you could actually cut with the edge. These were super popular in Poland, to the point where their last recorded use was in WWII, where some militia took these scythes, killed Germans or Soviets with them and took their weapons
I love that you didn't just edit the picture over your recording, or maybe you did after lol, but you had to dodge the obnoxious picture in your way like "who put that there?!" 😂
The only grip I have with Hidan's scythe is having three parallel blades instead of one. Same with how Wolverine's claws fail as a katar from a functional perspective, each parallel blade divides the force between them. By having three parallel scythe blades instead of one, each only delivers a third of the total puncturing force imparted by the wielder. Plus having them aligned edge to spine the way they are blocks the cutting edges of the upper and middle blades. At best it would function great as a sword catcher.

Idk if you've seen the anime. If you have, then that makes this comment useless for the most part, but hidan uses his scythe as a ranged weapon at times. The rope that's attached to the sword can extend and retract, which he uses via throwing his scythe at his enemy to try and get any amount of blood he can onto the blade, due to him only needing a drop of your blood to win

The Durandal actually kinda looks like a Greek kopis or falcata only with a thinner handle and that one part sticking out of the blade but otherwise not as bad as one might think
Most folk don't know it, but garden scythes can adjust the angle of the blade for user height. You can turn it to be in line, but it's the angle of the point that you'd be concerned with, as scythes are shown in medieval artwork as overhead piercing weapons.
